Is FileMaker Pro a replacement for Appleworks??

I love Appleworks(using the newest version) and have been using it for years. My database recently got corrupted and this is not the first time I've had problems.
Please share thought about Filemaker. I work for myself and my needs are primarily database related. for the financial end, i'm using MYOB.
Thanks!!

Hello,
Filemaker is a lot more powerful then AppleWorks and it should be a very good replacement for the AppleWorks database. But you can see for yourself if it is the right thing for you. Filemaker is offering a 30 day trial version (see link below).

  • Replacement for Appleworks Clippings

Does Pages have a replacement for Appleworks Clippings? If so, where do I find it? And better still, does it have an equivalent to Word's AutoText feature, with drop-down picklists?
    Cheers, Simon

    You might look into EazyDraw.
It's reported able to open AppleWorks Draw documents, and the "Draw" name would indicate it handles vector drawings.
That would save at least one step in the process.

  • Replacement for Appleworks "Draw" Program?

    Hi -
With Apple's announcement that it will no longer upgrade or support Appleworks, can anyone recommend a simple (and inexpensive) replacement for AW's Draw program? I use it a lot for creating CD/DVD covers and inserts and would love to find a more modern and -- but non-complex -- replacement. Thanks for any recommendations.
    Shelly

With Apple's announcement that it will no longer upgrade or support Appleworks, ....
I guess I don't understand the premise here. It's been years and years since Apple has supported AW in any reasonable way, and it's been known or at least accepted for some time that nothing further was likely to happen after 6.2.9.
The only thing that's changed is that it's no longer sold in the Apple Store. The support page (http://www.apple.com/support/appleworks/) still exists, downloads and links are still alive from there, and of course there is still this forum and the rest of the support structure in place (knocking softly on wood).
At the end of the day, why start rushing around now to look for a replacement? If it meets your needs and will continue to do so, then you should, and should be able to, continue to use it.
In a different thread in a different forum I came across a post which stated that AW would not be usable on Leopard. If that's the case, it's come as news to me — is it some announcement that I've missed, some connection I've not made?
If so — so sad, too bad, and will just delay my transition into the new OS.

  • Replacement for Appleworks   :(

I am an avid user of Appleworks. I have several large databases, spreadsheets and other files. I know that they are not making any more updates to the current version oof Appleworks. My question is does anyone know of a program that is similar to Appleworks that I can start to change over to. I would like to have 1 program that would do databases, spreadsheets, drawing, painting, etc... I teach in a school and use all of these functions to some degree. Any ideas??????

As far as I know, the only full soluce available is
openOffice v.2.x which is a free clone of Office WITH
    a relational database application embedded.
    Hello Yvan,
And which is the last value of x, before Google putted its long arm on it?
I am been in paranoid about Google's power; for the last year I am seeing it as a threat the way I used to see Microsoft, but with more ambitions.
I do not use any Google service, but I see it anywhere. If someone is interested in another search engine, I can recommend Vivisimo.

  • Replacement for Appleworks clippings organizer

My dear mother loves Appleworks, and is a devout user of its clippings feature. She has over 1000 clippings in there right now, and is dreading the OS update that will disable Appleworks to the point that it no longer becomes useable.
Has anyone found a more recent compatible application or way to export such a collection of images such that she will still be able to retrieve, edit and add to them?
I have found nothing out there that does this on a mass scale - the closest is the one-by-one manual method of placing the clipping into an Appleworks document, copying it from there to the clipboard and pasting that into your image organizer of choice. Not only would this be very tedious, but the image format conversion process involved means the resulting extracted graphics no longer scale well.
    Any advice is much appreciated.

  • Windows Inventory Isn't Picking Up Filemaker Pro 8.5 +

Despite finding over 300 instances of the Filemaker Pro EXE file for version 8.5 and 11 in our file data, ZCM isn't reporting any Windows instances of Filemaker Pro V 8.5 installed. The PRU indicates that it fingerprints "Filemaker Pro x.x", but the most recent version that we are seeing identified is 5.5. Interestingly, our Macs seem to be reporting Filemaker Pro 8.5 without issue. Without it being a product, we can't get software usage on it and are planning an upgrade. Any help is appreciated. Thanks

Install and run the software fingerprint wizard on a machine that has Filemaker Pro 8.5. This file is then submitted to the fingerprinting team for implementing into a future PRU. Hope that helps

Can I upload a simple iPhone App that all it does is direct the User to a Filemaker Pro URL   fmp://~filename.fmp?$VariableName=Value  This launches Filemaker Go and directs the user to the Database Hosted online
Right now there is no app store for Filemaker Go.   Filemaker Forgot about us.
So I want to create a simple native iPhone App that all it does
    is launch
    fmp://~/filename.fmp12?$VariableName=value
This URL will launch the Filemaker Go App
Filemaker Go is a app that the user will have to have
    downloaded already on the device..
The Simple Native app will launch the Filemaker Go.
The fmp  URL has the information where the Filemaker Pro database is hosted
and get  the user where they need to be..
    Help Me please
    iPhone 5s, iOS 8.1.3

That would be software. And, you said "upload." That's "uploading software." Why do you question what you stated?
I don't know where you even want to upload this software. The only way it can be downloaded to a device is through the iTunes store. Do you even know what you want to do?

  • TS1702 how can i up load a program from my pc to my i pad  ? do i first have to upload it to I tunes (its a mac program) or is there a plug in that has a usb on one end and apple plug on th other?  i wnat to upload filemaker Pro for Mac to my i pad

Hello guys and thanks for trying to help me.  I want to upload Mac programs that i have saved on my pc to my I Pad (the latest one) and do i have to upload it first to I Tunes and then down load it to the ipad and if so how do i do that (upload to i tunes)
Second, is there an Apple adapter ( i have off brand ones fro China that don't work and i was told they would. also one from a company in he US and it doesn't work)
One big question, if i upload (after you tell me how) FileMaker Pro Adv Mac to the I Pad can i create run time solutions from the ipad as if it were a laptop or computer or air book??? becuase that is the main reason i purchased the I Pad.
i really would like to get to use the i pad but don't know the first thing about Macs..
Norman  (reach me at [email protected])

No, Mac programs and applications do not run on the iPad. an iPad is not a laptop. It can run only programs designed specifically for it and that are available only through the App Store.
Ipads are geared towards media consumption, not so much creation.
Perhaps what you should have bought is a MacBook Air rather than an iPad.  A Macbook Air is a fulll laptop, than runs a full MacOsx and can run File Maker Pro.

Where can I purchase replacement paper trays for the OfficeJet 8600 Pro Plus printer?
I am NOT looking for the add-on paper tray unit, but a replacement for the primary tray. We shuffle various types of paper and envelopes in and out of the tray throughout the day, and we would instead like to keep several extra trays loaded with specialty paper to reduce wear on the primary tray.
    Suggestiosn?

I searched in the online stores available by HP and was unable to find this part.  However, I was able to find that the part is available through HP Tech Support by calling in.

The part number is CM749-60036 for the main tray assembly for the Officejet Pro 8600 Plus.  This part is, currently, around $25 usd, but prices are subject to change.

  • Is filemaker a replacement for iweb?

Am I seeing this right that filemaker has a web design tool..I downloaded a free copy of freeway but I am struggling with using it..My small business web site was on Iweb so i need to find something quickly that can replace it.  thanksmargie

FileMaker is a database creation application with the capability of creating online databases. It's no replacement for iWeb or any other web design application.
Why are you wanting to leave iWeb?  It still works and will work for a while.  If your site includes a blog with comments or a photo pages with commenting activeated those will be no longer usable when MobileMe is discontinued on June 30th. Which of the following features does your website have:
Features Unavailable When Publishing to a 3rd Party Server:
    ◼ Password protection
    ◼ Blog and photo comments
    ◼ Blog search
    ◼ Hit counter
All of these items can be replaced with 3rd party options. Also do you have photo or album pages?
Regarding web design software do you have any HTML experience?  if so the Flux might be a viable replacement for iWeb.  There are many template based website design apps.  Among them are Quick'n Easy Web Builder, Freeway Express and Rage Web Design.
However, if your website is working OK for you now any you only expect to make minor updates to it consider staying with iWeb.

  • What is the best DVD Creator for a Mac Book Pro to replace iDVD?

What is the Best DVD Creator for a Mac Book Pro to replace iDVD?  Have Maverick OS.

I have already looked at other threads in this forum, so 'I venture forth' to ask my question here:
I have a 44 minute carefully edited iMovie with several chapter markers. I dimly recollect that when you 'dump' the entire movie into iDVD (my version is 7.1) it should detect the markers and create buttons to link to specific scenes. Well, the 'dumping' process obviously doesn't work.
How do you get iDVD to recognize the markers and ceate buttons to link?
I can create with iDVD a DVD that will play the movie in its entirety. This is not suitable for my purposes. I need access via a menu to specific scenes.
    Thank you,
    Klaus

  • Macbook Pro 1,1 Battery Replacement for cheap

Hi, does anyone know where they could find a replacement battery for the Macbook Pro 1,1 15 in for me. Its the late 2006 model. Thanks!
    Jjizzle

No, batteries are consumables, and are not covered for three years even if you have AppleCare. If a battery is defective, the defect will nearly always show up during the first year and need to be addressed then. Defective batteries are dealt with by Apple on a case-by-case basis, considering their ages, cycle counts, charge capacities and any physical deformations. As I wrote above, it's extremely unlikely that a three-year-old battery will be replaced for free, AppleCare or no.

  • Configure static ip address through time capsule for Filemaker Pro

I am trying to setup a static IP Address for Filemaker Pro Instant Web Publishing.
My current configuration is that I have a Netgear CG3100D modem/router set up to be a modem only.  NAT Mode is Disabled (Bridge Mode).  This is then connected to my Apple TimeCapsule.
What I am now trying to do is to configure my Windows 7 PC to have a static IP address so that remote devices can access my filemaker pro database.
I have downloaded (and configured?) a tool called no-ip DUC v3.04 that I thought would help solve my connection issues, but I think that I still have a problem with how to open a port number.
When i open my browser and make a connection on my network with the ip address:port number specified through Filemaker I can get a connection.  However I can not get a connection remotely.
I know I haven't provided a great deal of information here, but I am happy to provide more, once I konw what information is required.
Any assistance or advice with this would be really appreciated.
    Thanks

I'm not too familiar with FileMaker Pro, but if you like to give static IP addresses to anything you would have to use DHCP Reservations using Airport Utility.
Open Airport Utility, select the Time Capsule device, click Manual Setup, navigate the Internet icon, then the DHCP tab, you'll see DHCP Reservations towards the bottom.
