Is Firefox for Android OS only available in mobile (I use tablet, not phone)?

I want desktop format, not mobile format, for use on my ASUS tablet.
When I mark Android OS in the help page, it automatically puts me in mobile
When I ask for desktop format, it automatically puts me in microsoft.
Is this unavoidable limitation?

]'''Michelle -
I wonder if you realize that the quality of what you did is not equalled in any computer/techical manual that I have read since I had my first computer in the late 80's. Despite all the fancy numbers about how many jillion of computers are out there, I often wonder how many are like 2 or 3 at friends' homes, unused because they have no one to teach them, no manuals that are methodical enough, techie word free, to refer to.
A forum is a time waster - a beginner can't tell if they are reading a wannabe computer whiz, or someone who is way beyond their needs or understanding. Google occasionally does a pretty good job, but it is all fragmented by product and, at times, their corporate product development structure. In a word,it is not integrated, and certainly not relating parts of the knowledge - e.g. when did you ever read, "What we are doing with this e-mail problem, is really almost identical to how one does an "x" kind of search."
I have no doubt you have given me what I need. To the extent I might have a problem, you have anticipated - you probably don't realize this method which you used so well lights a sufficient remedy path; if there is a microscopic point of confusion, the user can see where to go.
As I make the following comments, it is important to preface all by telling you that I spent over half of my business career fixing(not financial engineering) but teaching a large company from the shopfloor up to exec offices, what running a business was about, what was required to manage an organization to make money and positive cash flow while satisfying customers as a way of life; I did this in and for reasonably large private and public companies. I should also say to remove a doubt about my questions, I am very intelligent - my lack of understanding comes from either an industry's failure to truly market their product, which requires consumer education or the fact that, unlike my sons, I didn't have the opportunity or time to play with these machines and their software when DOS was the name of the sandbox. Believe it or not, I did all of the above things successfully without an MBA!
So let's look at what you did and think what it could mean to Mozilla. First, there is a huge need for a product that does what you just did for me. I do not have to do any market research; when you figure people ask me for help with reasonable regularity, the need must be desperate.
Mozilla has the opportunity to do, thru Firefox, the Bibles of the business. /they need to find the 100 most trying, difficult things users run into and write process statements as you did. I think it might well have to be part generic (e.g. Microsoft OS basics) and part brand/individual company structured.
They would give these first 100 pages, in a three ring binder, to any user of Firefox for free. They would then go on to the next 150 difficulty issues (which I think should be enough) and sell that addendum to fit dividers in those notebooks. I would guess at this point, they might even publish such a package.
Then they would have to have a structured page that any customer tech person was trained to follow such that problems beyond the suggested 250 were always formatted so they could go into the master binder.
Companies with new products would certainly contract to have the Mozilla-Firefox manual company prepare or rigorously edit manuals or sections for their new product. It is easy for me to see that, every time a new product was launched, there was a marking {"Mozilla/Firefox Manual inside) - apologies to Intel.
Your competence could breed a collateral business that created enormous goodwill and awareness - properly managed, cash.
Take this to your boss or whomever is positive, and has an entrepreneurial bone permanently rooted in his or her soul.
thank you, Stewart Gordon

  • Can anybody tell me how do I change the download location on the firefox for android browser. The download are filling my tablets memory? Every browser should

Every browser should have a download directory. And no I do not want to use dolphin or any other browser.

I tried this and it didn't work. There was no setting in \about:config for "browser.download.dir" so I added it as a string and set it to my phone's extSdCard, restarted firefox, tried another download, but it still went to the old location. Any ideas?

  • Why are web developer tools not available on Firefox for Android?

I do some freelance web design. I just replaced my laptop with a tablet last year (Samsung Galaxy 10.5 S). I want to do web development on it - I work from a terminal doing Ruby on Rails and web development all the time. It would be awesome to have the F12 developer tools handy in Firefox for Android, but sadly I've waited for a while and there is no indication they will ever appear.
Do NOT suggest using a remote debugger - I'm not testing the layout of pages on my tablet, I want to be able to profile, view source (without an add-on) and such. I have seen this exact question marked closed by suggesting remote debugging, and I fail to see how telling me to use my tablet next to a laptop or desktop is a solution. Telling me to carry a second device means I don't need the tablet at all, when my intention is to ONLY use the tablet.
My tablet has a huge screen resolution and a powerful processor - more powerful than some laptops? Why is Firefox for Android neutered? I would understand disabling it by default to help those with less powerful devices, but why remove something that would add a competitive edge to your product, and is already integrated in desktop Firefox and has been for years? I prefer Firefox, but if Chrome adds web developer tools for Android first, I'll switch to Chrome.
There are people today using a tablet as their sole computing device. Please do not relegate us to a second-class Firefox experience!
    Thanks,
    Ryan

  • Add-ons Not available for Firefox for android

I was installing add-ons for a new phone (4.4.4 KitKat) and noticed that almost all add-ons (including featured add-ons, such as Phony, QuitNow, Adblock Plus, etc.) are "Not Available for Firefox for Android", with the Add to Firefox button greyed out.
I don't remember I had such a problem installing add-ons on my old phone. Is it that I have to wait for the developers to update their add-ons or there is something wrong with my new phone?
    Thank you.

I just read that we are experiencing an issue with the addons.mozilla.org site where Firefox for Android is blocked from installing extensions. I don't have a time frame for it to be resolved. Though I will try to update this thread when the problem is fixed.

  • Png files with transparent background show black only in firefox for android

I have a wix created site and png files with transparent backgrounds are showing with a black blackground in Firefox for Android. They show transparent in all other browsers I have tried.
I have tried saving the file as a gif, as a smaller png, interlaced, not interlaced, png 8, png24. It still shows black in Firefox for Android.

    Hi evelswoman,
Thank you for your question. This sounds like a good one for the web compatibility team. Currently there are some compatibility documentation for background-image here: [https://developer.mozilla.org/en-US/docs/Web/CSS/background-image] and more details on background: [https://developer.mozilla.org/en-US/docs/Web/CSS/background]
Filling a bug with webcompat.com with an example url can go a long way as well, I hope this helps.

  • How can I stop firefox for android from increasing font sizes on some pages?

I try to get my browser to show websites exactly as they would look in my Firefox for desktop pcs. Checking "show desktop version" helps, but still, on many sites the font size is almost doubled compared to my laptop's browser. a good example would be the amazon site. Not only the font size but the whole layout seems bigger, although both my laptop any my tablet have the same screen resolution. Changing the text size setting to tiny didn't have an impact on any site at all.
Also, is there a way to manually zoom in/out of a website like strg+ -/+ in the normal firefox does?

This is an interesting one. I'm not a web developer so others will be able to give a more thorough answer but I think the thing is that the navigator.userAgent is not the only source of information about your device available to the site.
Recently user agent sniffing has become less popular because browsers tend to catch each other up and, for example, you don't want to force IE10 users to view a web page designed to get around lacking features in IE6. See the following links for more info on this:
    * http://jibbering.com/faq/notes/detect-browser/
    * http://stackoverflow.com/questions/8970800/is-server-side-useragent-detection-bad
    * https://developer.mozilla.org/en-US/docs/Browser_detection_using_the_user_agent
I expect what is happening is that the site is instead using feature detection of some kind and is varying the images served based on the features it can detect rather than the useragent string of the browser you are using.
As far as I can tell there is no setting in Firefox for Android that is default-zooming in on desktop websites. It just displays what the site provides.

  • How to make Android's built in search bar invoke Firefox for Android?

Firefox for Android is already my default browser, yet Android's built in search widget that seems to be on the home screen when any Android phone is unboxed is still invoking the default browser. An other thing to note is my phone has Android 4.1 and came with chrome preinstalled yet the old default browser that came with older versions of Android also came preinstalled, and was the original default browser on my phone, not chrome as my reading of recent web chatter had led me believe.

Yeah my phone is too cheap for anyone to want to spend the time to develop a rooting method I tried moding some exploits and running them through SuperOneClick and similar tools and even tried manually through the android developer's tool kit, and ssh-ing into my phone to no avail so moding some code and making a custom img is kinda outta the question plus my c++ is rusty and would only be suitable for command line apps also I'm betting the source for Google's search bar is closed, further more it's probably in Java, I'm more of a web dev now-a-days... I'd have a better chance with JS. I'll bet you're right though. I'm still gonna leave this open for a day or so though just to see if anything pans out. Thank you for your reply though.

  • Firefox for android doesn't load all my passwords and corrupts bookmarks

Firefox for Android doesn't load all my passwords on my tablet (Lenovo).
Also, syncing corrupts my bookmarks on my desktop and laptop by inserting bookmarks which I have deleted days ago..
It syncs through all three devices and I know that it syncs because when I sync from my desktop, all three devices have the same time-stamp of when they synced.
It seems as though, if you have two usernames/passwords for the same login address, such as 2 Gmails - there is no dropdown which shows both emails/passwords from which to choose from.
This is all very frustrating, especially when I'm out and only have my tablet and I need to login somewhere when I'm with a client, and I can't login because Firefox/Android doesn't show my login info or the bookmark that I need is not there, because my bookmarks are corrupted after a sync.
I have lost clients because of this.

    Hi modularbase.
I understand that there are some issues with sync between three devices. Specifically, there is an issue with corrupt bookmarks and passwords that are not stored.
Please make sure these settings are set:
    * [[Control whether Firefox automatically fills in forms with your information]] * [[Usernames and passwords are not saved]]
    * [[Using Master Password on Firefox for Android]]- the password manager addon for mobile devices may benefit in this situation.
However on mobile, specifically for Gmail signin, accounts.google.com can store a few mail accounts, however you would have to add an account by clicking on "Sign in with a different account". In Firefox, passwords are stored by website in the password manager.

  • How to view pdf files without downloading them on firefox for android

I use an Electronic Medical Record program using Firefox for android on a a Samsung Galaxy Pro 12.2 tablet. I need to view patient pdf files on the tablet. So far, the only way I have been able to accomplish this is to download the file first. It would be more efficient if I could just view the pdf file on the Galaxy tablet without having to download it. Is it possible to do this with Firefox for android? Thanks.

Not in any reliable manner. There is PDF.js but it has not been optimized for Firefox for Android. https://github.com/mozilla/pdf.js/#firefox

  • How to exctract/backup a client certificate from Firefox for Android similar to question #1000240 but for the latest Firefox Beta for Android?

As in #1000240 and in #1032181, I've installed a StartSSL login certificate in my Firefox for Android and having a problem with extracting/backuping it to use with another device/browser.
I'm using the latest Firefox Beta for Android (35.0) at present; the Android version is 4.1.2, my phone model is Sony LT26i (Xperia S), so neither of the aforementioned questions asked at the Mozilla Support website do not contain any solution to the given problem.
Any chance to recover the certificate?
    P. S. I haven't rooted my device; if getting a root is the only possible way to recover the certificate, I may consider doing so.

You can try https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/android/addon/copy-profile/ If that does not retrieve the file then see below.
If you know the name and path of the file you can get it using run-as function of adb. See http://stackoverflow.com/questions/18471780/android-adb-retrieve-database-using-run-as
If you end up down here you'll need root to be able to navigate the file system. I don't know the file name, though it is likely in your profile folder which can be determined by visiting about:cache in the Firefox address bar. It will be similar to /data/data/org.mozilla.firefox_beta/files/mozilla/$RANDOM.default/

  • How to set default search engine in Firefox for Android?

Hi. I want to set a non-Google search engine as the default in Firefox on Android. I have installed the search engine as an add-on and it is working fine, but I would like to use it as the default search, rather than having to select it each time.
Couldn't find the answer on here or anywhere else.
Please note this only relates to Android.
    Thanks!

hello eggzzz, are you updated to the latest version? this should now be possible in firefox 23 for android in the addons manager:

  • Is there a possibility to download files directly to the external usb drive in Firefox for Android?

I have the Android device that support external usb hard drive, when I want to download some files via Firefox there are only two possible "places" where I can put the files - external memory or SD card. It will be nice if there would be an option to save file on ext. usb drive.

    Hi Nix_N1:
Yeah I don't know about this and I don't have an Android device that supports USB storage.
What Android device are you using and what operating system (Jellybean? Ice Cream sandwich ?)
I asked the Mozilla QA folks and they said Firefox for Android uses the Android platform download directory so the USB drive *should* show up if it registers properly with Android.
    They suggested the following:
    # removing the SD card and seeing if it shows up in place of the SD card.
    # perhaps changing the following preference (type "about:config" in the url bar without the quotation marks)
    ''' browser.download.dir'''
will fix it ('''WARNING:untested and unsupported but hopefully this might help''')
Regardless I suggest filing a bug at (I looked but couldn't find a bug that corresponds to this):

  • Why can't I install Firefox for Android on my Motorola Defy Mini? According to Antutu Benchmark system info, it has a ARM v7 CPU, so it should be compatible...

When I try to install Firefox for Android on my Motorola Defy Mini (XT320), Google Play Store tells me that my device is not compatible with Firefox for Android,so I cannot install it; according to Antutu Benchmark system info, the Motorola Defy Mini has an Arm v7 CPU installed, so it should be compatible with Firefox for Android...

Turns out it was a permissions issue, the files created by the certutil in the defaults folder got root only permissions given to them. I opened them up and it's working fine.

  • Hello, I'm trying to use Firefox for Android on Nook HD+. Can't find Home button to set up Home Screen.

I want to be able to start with and return to the Home Screen but I don't have one because I can't set one up using the Home Screen Button. Please help, thanks, Tony.

    Hello,
Could you please specify your problem? Are you trying to get to the "awesome screen" (firefox home on android) If so, you just close your current tab or open a new tab. To do this, tap the top left of your screen in Firefox. This is to the left of the back button. Now you either slide down a tab to close it, or tap the "+" sign at the top left while at your tab area. And also, there is no exact home button while in Firefox for android, only in desktop Firefox (at least there used to be). Hope this helps in some way!

  • How do I set a "normal" home-page in Firefox for Android? (instead of the "awesome screen")

How do I set a "normal" home-page in Firefox for Android? I don't want the homepage to be the "awesome screen" (which I personally don't find to be very awesome - way too much going on in one page for a small smartphone screen).
I just want a regular home page that I can set myself. For example, in Firefox for my personal laptop, I've set my homepage Google.com. In Firefox on my work computer, I've set my homepage to our company intranet login. I really prefer and need this flexibility in setting my home page.
In Firefox for Android, if I go into Settings/Customize/Homepage , the only options I see for changing the home page is to de-select certain items on the "awesome screen". There's no option to set a URL address for a normal homepage. If I de-select/hide all the items on the awesome screen, I simply get a blank home page (no web page, just a prompt telling me to enter a URL address).
The other major browsers for Android allow me to set a "normal" home page. Firefox is my favorite browser for my laptop. I wish I could get it to work normally for Android. :( :( :(

hello betsy, at the moment such a feature is not implemented in firefox, but as a workaround you can add a bookmark to a site to the homescreen of your phone, which should have the same effect: [[Use bookmarks on Firefox for Android to keep track of your favorite websites]]
