Is Flash Player 11 just not compatible with Windows Vista 64 bit?

When I installed the latest version of Flash, I lost the ability to view You Tube videos for more than the first 3 or 4 seconds. Today I went to the adobe site thinking I needed a new flash player, and got this message:
Note:Flash Player does not support 64-bit versions of Windows XP and Vista. Flash Player 11 now includes support for Windows 7 64-bit.
Seriously? So I have to scrap my computer or get Windows 7 in order to use Flash?
I am not a techy, so I have resisted coming to the forums and getting a response I don't know what to do with. If you have an answer for this, I would really REALLY appreciate it if you can translate it into language for the lay person.
It isn't just You Tube videos, either. So many news and other items are now done in video instead of an article, and I am finding that I am not able to get information I am looking for because of this.
Please help!

What this means is the following: the 64-bit version of Flash Player will install fine on Vista 64-bit, but Adobe will not provide support if it does not work as expected.
In fact, Adobe will not provide any support for any Flash Player on any platform, except here in this forum.
I suggest that you
uninstall your current Flash Player using the uninstaller from http://helpx.adobe.com/flash-player/kb/uninstall-flash-player-windows.html
install the 64-bit Flash Player with the offline installer(s) from http://helpx.adobe.com/flash-player/kb/installation-problems-flash-player-windows.html#Ins tall_in_a_firewall_proxy_server_environment
Good luck!

  • Is flash player 11.3 compatible with Windows vista 64 bit?

I don't have major issues with the video and sound (the flash player used to crash frequently but that seems to have been resolved). But I can't adjust the volume with the volume control wheel when I watch videos on firefox. When I check volume mixer the flash player is tied to the speaker, not firefox.
The product description for flash player 11.3 seems to suggest that it will not support Windows Vista 64 bit. Should I revert back to an older version? What's the most straightforward way to do that? Is the Adobe team fairly close to finding a solution?
Much thanks to anyone who provide some answers for people who aren't computer savvy - like me.

Previously, with separate 32-bit and 64-bit installers, you could run the 64-bit installer on Vista, and it would work correctly.  However, it was not officially supported by Adobe.
Now with the 11.3 combined installers, I do not know what it installs on Vista.  I do not have Vista available, so I cannot test it.  Can you tell me what files you have in
    C:\Windows\system32\macromed\flash ?
    C:\Windows\syswow64\macromed\flash ?

  • Captivate is not compatible with Windows Vista RTM

I can confirm that Captivate 2 is not compatible with Windows
Vista (RTM Final MSDN). I have been testing it on several systems
with various versions of Vista. It had partial success with RC2,
but with RTM it crashes quite frequently (when vista is drawing new
windows). I can't tell however if captivate is directly responsible
or if it is perhaps an incompatible version of Flash (current using
latest version 9 beta) that is to blame. However, since Vista is at
RTM then I would say that it is now the responsibility of Adobe to
fix the compatibility issues with a new update. Technically vista
is not due to domestic market until january 07, however businesses
will be able to purchase vista in only two weeks, and as Captivate
is generally used for business/training use i would certainly think
that it should be of high importance that these issues are
    resolved.
Can anyone else comment on their experiences with Captivate
    and Vista?

    Hi cptv8
I appreciate your taking the time to report back your
findings about Vista. Perhaps it will be helpful to those that are
    early adopters.
    You stated:
Technically vista is not due to domestic market until january

You have a valid point. However, you are making it in the
wrong venue. How? Well, Adobe doesn't normally make it a habit of
visiting the peer-to-peer support forums. This means users
supporting users. If you are concerned that Adobe is aware of this
issue, you should really consider using a different channel. The
Wish Form. And you can easily get there by simply
    clicking
    here.
Now I don't claim to be a guru of anything in particular, but
it seems to me that businesses are very slow to adopt things. They
tend to take a very pragmatic and slow approach. Many are just now
making the leap to XP! So I'm guessing that Vista will be slow to
gain ground. I'm also confident that the Captivate team is well
aware of the Vista issues and will be addressing them as best they
    can.
    Sincerely... Rick

  • Tecra S2: BIOS 1.3 is not compatible with Windows Vista

i just bought Windows Vist Ultimate and i tried to install it on my tecra S3 notebook and it said that i had to upgrade my bios. so i did upgrade to latest version found on the toshiba website (v1.3) but i got the same message please provide a bios upgrade which is vista compatible for my notebook or provide where i can find thge update.

    Hi
The Toshiba driver site says the BIOS 1.3 for Tecra S2 was released on 19/06/2006
It seems its not a final Vista release and therefore its not compatible with Vista.
Unfortunately, everything looks like you have to wait with the Vista installation till the new BIOS version is released.

  • Tecra M5 BIOS not compatible with Windows Vista

Hi, I ran the Vista Upgrade Advisor from Microsoft and it reported that the BIOS on my Tecra M5 was not compatible with Vista and to contact Toshiba. I am currently running version 1.7 - the latest available I think. Is Toshiba going to release a version that will be Vista compatible, or a fix so that I can run Vista on my M5?
I forgot to mention that the machine is a UK M5 (PTM51E)
    Many thanks,
    David

    David,
That's not the case. Whatever the results of the software advisor that you have run, you can install VISTA ok on your Tecra M5 PTM51E portable but obviously subject to you having purchased the license (full version or upgrade) from a local supplier, however, you will have to carry out a new (clean) installation of VISTA which means you would have to wipe your hard disk drive in the process. Obviously, making sure that you backup all of your data first to another system (or to external media) and be aware of the software that may/may not run correctly under VISTA before starting the process.
There's a new M5 BIOS released for your M5 which would then upgrade your existing 1.7 BIOS to the latest version.
The standard 512mb Tecra M5's run VISTA very well. No Toshiba software is available, however, maybe this will be released over time so you can adjust power settings and utilities as you can now under XPP.
After installing and registering/activating VISTA you will be prompted to install various updates (including an updated graphics driver and some patches.) Take these options and then your portable should work better. That said, even the standard VISTA installation works fine (AERO support appears to be improved on the new version plus it looks slightly more optimised and also runs a little quicker.)
If you are familiar with your portable, IT aware, and unsure of wiping your existing system totally, then you could also purchase a additional internal Toshiba SATA HDD kit for the Tecra M5 in order to try VISTA in the short time. Another internal 80gb/100gb HDD would give you the capability to try VISTA without losing all or your XP software and software/networking configurations, enabling you to move back to XPP should you have any (none-Microsoft) software or antivirus software issues stopping you from working after your installation of VISTA. I appreciate that there are costs associated but this would allow you to switch between XP and VISTA more easily (than wiping your current system, installing VISTA and then going back to XPP should any problems occur, not to mention the time savings that this could introduce !)
With VISTA, just take >>GREAT CARE<< with your software. Many (none- Microsoft) software applications have some issue(s) with VISTA because it is new. So, this may mean that you may have to purchase a software update in order to ensure that you have 100% compatibility with your favourite applications (or have to replace your existing software versions entirely with new ones.)
    Strawberry.

  • Flash player is not working with windows 8.1 and ie11

I am so tired of the message to remove active x or enable flash player. On windows 8.1 the next message is that flash player is embedded in 8.1. I also have ie 11 and had to load Google Chrome because my Media Player does not gee haw with 8.1. If I had not bought a new PC with 8 loaded believe me I would still have windows 7 or the windows 2010 Home and Student. Tell me please what to do.

IE11 is a "Rolling Train Wreck". Combined with 8.1 it is, without a doubt, the worst pile of garbage to EVER come out of Redmond, WA.
MS deliberately altered the "User-Agent Strings" to make it nearly IMPOSSIBLE for pages and sites to ID it. (See: IE11's Screwed up User-Agent Strings)
The pages can't recognize the browser, so they don't recognize any of the plugins, like Flash Player. So far, Microsoft has made NO indication that they have any plan to fix it soon.
Microsoft's recommendation is to use Compatibility View for affected pages, and "pretend" you're using an different browser. Trouble with that is it has seen limited success at best, and you have to individually enable it for EVERY page that has problems.
I'm not big on "pretending" so I recommend actually using another browser.
    Firefox (from Mozilla)
    Opera (from Opera)
    Safari (from Apple)
    Chrome (from Google)
ANY of those will work where IE11 won't, with the Flash Player Plug-in (For all other browsers), and Chrome doesn't even need that because it has its own Flash Player plugin built in.

  • Adobe Acrobat 5.0 not compatible with Windows Vista

On installing this software on my new Windows Vista, incompatibility message says I need to install kernel-mode print driver. Where can I get this from. No luck with the Adobe website technical support!

Then you will need to purchase an upgrade to the current version 8.1.
Note that Acrobat Standard would be a downgrade; to retain all your
current features you'd need Acrobat Professional.
Note that there was no product called Acrobat Writer, if you want to
be exact. And you would normally have only one of "Acrobat" and
"Acrobat Reader". To make it even more confusing, "Acrobat Reader" was
    renamed "Adobe Reader".

  • Flash Player 9 not compatible with IE 7?

A few days ago I installed Internet Explorer 7 from
Microsoft's Update Center. When I visited a flash site, I realized
I did not have flash installed so I installed it right away ((On
one computer from a prompt to get it, the other computer from the
adobe site directly)). Anyways, everytime I have Shockwave Flash
Object (flash9b.ocx) enabled and visit a flash enabled site I get
    the annoying...
"Internet Explorer has encountered an error and must close"
and it prompts me to report the problem (which I do if for no other
reason than to annoy msft for producing a product with such an
    obvious flaw)
I attempted to produce a crash log as someone instructed in a
previous post, but from following those directions to the letter no
.mdmp file was ever generated from the crash.
IF anyone knows a fix so I can view flash again please let me
know, or just let me know a fix is in the works.
One last thing, and I don't know if it is of any consequense
but the afore mentioned file flash9b.ocx is showing up in the
add-on listings as (not verified) Adobe Systems Incorporated, while
the only other adobe products listed (Adobe Acrobat Control and
AcroIEhlprObj Class) both are verified and are functioning w/o
error as far as I know.

  • ITines is not compatible with Windows Vista Ultimate

I tried 3 times to install (re-install) iTunes 7.3 so I could activate my iPhone. iTunes kept returning a message to uninstall and re-install iTunes, since some unknown piece of software was needed to recognize the iPhone. When will Apple fix this problem? I had to use an older WindowsXP machine to successfully activate the iPhone.

Yes, I went through this too. I have Ultimate 64bit (came installed on my new HP Laptop - most of the new laptops are coming this way.
I finally took my iPhone back, because the as the gal at the Apple store told me, they will never support 64 bit Windows OS.
However I did read a post here that future versions of iTunes were expected to correct this. I sure hope so.
Anyone know if the new iTunes 7.3.1 corrects or now allows for activation or synching with Vista 64 bit???
