Is frequent use of display cleaner's harmful?

Hi all,
I've been using Monster's iClean for cleaning my Apple 23" HD display (clear enclosure) ever since I purchased it used. I have a habit of cleaning some times once or twice a day, yikes! On one front, I have concerns that by cleaning it with such frequency I might be harming it, is this warranted? On the other front is the product itself. I've seen on another thread debating use of such products vs. cleaning with water. I've heard conflicting info. What is Apple's official stance with regards to cleaning the displays? I have not seen any apparent ill effects on my display, but who knows. I purchased the iClean product because of the deemed high quality MONSTER brand (and in it's defense, it does claim not to use alcohol or ammonia and leaves a polymer with reduction in static electricity, etc.), but I'm not sure if my high frequency cleaning is negating and causing it harm. What is this LCD made of?
p.s. What's up with this site? I think we are seeing the effects of Apple's resource going all to the iphone. I can't get to this "discussion" area without clicking on a "popular" link. Also, I'm constantly running into that annoying "broken or error" page. Is anyone else experiencing such?

Hi Japamac,
I live in a cave, but I think I will take your advice and cut back on the frequency. Is there a duster specially made for such? And if so, where can I get one? So, there is some sort of coating on the LCD screen? Thanks for the feedback.
Hi-
Where do you have the display that requires twice a
day cleaning? You're gonna wear it out, or, damaged
the coating on the panel.
Slow down, wipe less frequently, and get a soft LCD
panel dust brush for your all so often cleaning. That
won't harm the coating on the screen.
Here is Apples cleaning advice:

  • I have a 17" Macbook pro with flickering red and cyan(blue) lines across the screen. The issue disappears temporarily when I tap on the computer, and the problem does not occur when I use external display or try to screen capture the problem.

I purchased my Macbook (17") through a certified apple tecnition in August 2012, it was refurbished and the motherboard was completely replaced. I do a lot of photo editing, but I have been unable to do so because of the red vibrating lines that interrupt my screen. The issue disappears temporarily when I tap on the computer, and the problem does not occur when I use external display or try to screen capture the problem. I brought the computer back to the technition I purchased it from and he said that it was a problem with my fan, so I have two new fans but the issue is still occuring. He says he doesnt know whats wrong. Does anyone have any information on this issue?
Here is an image of the issue

I recommend having your Mac serviced by someone competent. A force sufficient to "blow apart" the fans was clearly excessive and may have damaged the display cable, as well as any number of other problems.
Dust is properly cleaned with a vacuum, preferably one designed for computer service, and they are not cheap.
Compressed air should never be used. It just blows dust everywhere, often into places where it can no longer be removed.

  • Using iMac Display as input

So I have a 21.5 inch late 2012, Is it possible to use it as a Monitor to take input from other devices (DVD player , Gaming consoles ,etc) via thunderbolt port (as mini display port is not availabe in 2012 model) ?

  • Pinning frequently used sqls

    Hi all,
Please let me know if the steps involved to pin frequently used sql statement in library cache to avoid reparsing
    Thanks for all your help.

Frequently used SQL ought to be retained in the library cache without pinning. Oracle only starts flushing stuff from the cache once it's full and then it ages out the least-recently used queries.
So, if you have a persistent problem with excessive reloading of frequently used queries you may need to reconsider the value of your shared_pool_size.

You really have to mess with the resoluton, espescially the refresh rate, as it varies from projector to projector, monitor to monitor. Even within the same brand! Because so many manufacturers are trying so many different things to become the next cool kid on the block, and the way the formats are being configured that's now part of the game.
That's why so many professionally produced corporate shows hire a dedicated projectionist for the video presentations. Too many bugs in the honey.
Refresh & sesolution are the first things to look at.
Just so you know that colors in PowerPoint PC, and PowerPoint Mac, don't exactly match... go figure.
I forgot to mention another thing, sometimes it's the projector that needs to be tweaked.

  • How do you use multiple displays with a MacBook Pro and iMac

I have an iMac and a MacbookPro laptop both upgraded to OS X 10.9 (Mavericks).  I'd like to use multiple displays with them.  Can I do this without an Apple TV?  They are both on the same network.  If I can, can someone please give some instructions on how this can be done?
    Thanks!

Both computers have ports for external monitors. Check your user manuals. Only one display can be added to the MBP, but newer iMacs have dual Thunderbolt ports.
Do your own Google research to learn what to do, but reading your manuals should be all you really need. It' not rocket science yet.

  • How do i set up a second display for my iMac desktop?  I want to use both displays at the same time.

how do i set up a second display for my iMac desktop?  I want to use both displays at the same time.  My iMac is the 24" Late 2006 model.  I recall that there is a cord for plugging in a second monitor, but I want to make sure that i can use both monitors side-by-side at the same time.  thank you.

If the Display supports DVI, then you will need a > Mini-DVI to DVI Adapter and a DVI cable.
If the Display only supports VGA, then you wiil need a > Mini DVI to VGA Adapter and a VGA cable.
Noting that the (digital) DVI is far better than the (analog) VGA connection.

  • Method to use to display (n) number of strings

    hi,
I have a list of strings stored in an array, I need to be able to show these on screen after pressing a button. I am not sure what to use to display these, I setup an action listener on the button to create new JLabel for every string in the array which are created using a while loop, as the number cant be predefined. however by adding a new label to the panel it will only update after having left the screen and come back to it, is there another method I could use as this is obviously no good, maybe I should not use labels to display the strings. However I cannot create a preset number of labels, as the number required is unkown.
    any ideas?

If you want the really cheap way to do it, you can use a label with multiple lines by putting <html>...</html> tags around the text and <br> between the lines. :-)
The way we do it here though is to use a JTextArea which is formatted to look like a label.
JLists are another way to do it, but JTextArea can wrap the lines, which JList cannot.

  • How to remove preinstalled files of adobe photoshop from my mac mini so that i can install a new version of the same software. The previous version was removed using the app cleaner software.Could not continue installation bcoz of earlier files

How to remove preinstalled files of adobe photoshop from my mac mini so that i can install a new version of the same software. The previous version was removed using the app cleaner software.Could not continue installation of the new version because of the existance of files from the previous version.plz help

What "app cleaner software" ? I ask because installing Photoshop over a previous version has never been a problem. Perhaps your difficulty stems from another source, eg. "cleaner software" ?
If you look in your hard drive, at the root level there is a Library. In there is a folder called Application Support, and in that you will find a folder called Adobe. Files from your previous version are there.
However, I urge you to call Adobe support to make sure you are not doing anything that would mess up other Adobe applications.

  • Using Cinema Display - Please Help

    Hi All,
I have been working with my new 15" MBP and loving it, not one problem to report! I will be traveling with the MBP and when I come home, I would like to use this computer with my cinema display and apple wireless keyboard and all of my other home office stuff. Can you please tell me the correct way to use my cinema display with the MBP, I have never owned a laptop before - but this MBP is clearly better than my old G4 Powermac and I would like to keep everything on my new MBP rather than using two computers anyway.
Also, is there an extension cable available for the cinema display to run from the monitor to the MBP?
    Thanks!

It would be nice if you could be a little more specific with your request. The only correct way to use a display is to plug the DVI cable into the MBP. There should be something in display in your system prefs that will give you the option to mirror you laptop on an external display. Once you do that everything else should just work (assuming you plug it all in). When you say an extension cable you mean just for the video portion, right? Not any usb/firewire ports? If it is just DVI take a look here. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16812712028
that is a 10 foot dual link DVI cable. It will support through a 30" display so that should be a great cable. I hope this helped.

  • MacBook suddenly won't detect my display, Using Mini Display Port to VGA?

MacBook suddenly won't detect my display, Using Mini Display Port to VGA?

dohdoh1985, I have the exact same problem also! I recently bought a 42" RCA LCD TV. I connected my MacBook Pro to my TV using a Dynex Mini DisplayPort to HDMI adapter that I got from BestBuy. It worked great until I upgraded to Mac OS 10.6.4 and then it suddenly stopped working. Same TV, same settings, same cables, same adapter. Nothing changed since the last time it worked except that my OS was upgraded to 10.6.4, so i am assuming that is the culprit. The symptoms are EXACTLY the same as what dohdoh1985 described; when I plug in the TV, the laptop display flashes (3 times) as though it is detecting an external display and the picture on the TV briefly goes from blue to black for about 1 second then back to blue. The TV does not appear in the display menu / control panel and there is no sign that the MacBook detected it. I went through the usual troubleshooting steps (reset PRAM, checked connections, tv settings, etc) but nothing worked. Other HDMI sources (i.e. Blu-ray player) work fine on the TV using the same HDMI cable on the same port so there is nothing wrong with the cable, the TV or the TV's input settings.
Meanwhile, I can still connect my MacBook to my external ViewSonic monitor at work without any problems. It's just the TV that's not working.
I cancelled my cable subscription a while ago since I only watch shows online nowadays and this was my only way of watching TV shows, so I'm quite upset.
    Apple, please help!

    Hello chrispyw,
If your content is still being displayed incorrectly, I would check the resolution setting for the built in display with this article:
OS X Yosemite: Adjust your display’s resolution
If it keeps happening whenever you use AirPlay then I would use this section of the following article to reset the display system:
Apple computers: Troubleshooting issues with video on internal or external displays
    Reset the system
You can reset the Mac's parameter RAM and SMC.Reset the resolution
Start by resetting the Mac's parameter RAM. If the display does not come up, was previously set to an unsupported resolution, and still results in no video:
    Start up in Safe Mode.
From the Apple () menu, choose System Preferences.
Choose Displays from the View menu to open the preferences pane.
Select any resolution and refresh rate that your display supports.
    Restart your computer.
Thank you for using Apple Support Communities.
    Regards,
    Sterling
