Is Front Row configurable anywhere?

As title.
Just installed yesterday's update and movie previews work fine now but they are all American and have a habit of stuttering all the time (maybe just lots of people trying it out, or maybe it's streaming from a server in the US?)
I can think of a couple of things straight off the bat.
Configure a region so people in the UK like me aren't sat there watching movie trailers for stuff that isn't out in the UK.
Get iPhoto to rotate it's images maybe? I guess front row doesn't know what needs to be rotated and what doesn't but a lot of my photos view on their side which seems a bit daft :o)
That's it for now - i'm sure there could be plenty more suggestions too if Apple want suggestions!
Martin.

Yea there is a lot of stuff needs configuring.
The first and foremost is my need to have front row appear on a separate monitor without having to mirror displays. I want to sit on my sofa in the other room and start front row, right now I have to go to the other room to turn on mirroring before it will appear on my TV.
To be able to start a playlist like on the iPod by holding down the button to select the next tune in the list.
I also really wish front row would handle play lists differently. For instance is I create a playlist of Artists beginning with A, I would expect to see : Artists beginning with A> Album>song.
What we get is Artist beginning with A>Songs.
All playlists work like this and to be frank, in front row they don't make a lot of sense. I have around 9000 tunes in itunes, trying to remember all them song titles is difficult, especially as the text starts half way into the screen then cuts off! How stupid is that?
One other thing is if you accidentally page back from your selection it starts you right back at A, and worse, you can only scroll at the beginning A>Z, on an ipod if you scroll the other way at A, it starts at Z which is handy to get to stuff at the other end of the alphabet.
On the upside I am encouraged to see the latest up date scrolls a lot faster, well done apple!

  • Front Row doesn't install

I might be very sill here but just switched from pc to mac and got the MBP. With the remote control I can control ITunes etc however I can't see any Front Row application anywhere. When I tried to download and install, the machine warned me to say I need IMac and ISight to install... Where am I going wrong?
Thanks for all the answers in advance guys!

Hey sorry for being so dumb, I figured it all out now...

  • Are the Photobooth and Front Row icons available anywhere

I was just wondering if the .png icons of Photobooth and Front Row where available anywhere. Wasn't sure if the new iMacs shiped yet. If they have, could someone go into the apps's package contents and host the .pngs using imageshack.com? Trying out some Photoshop effects for one of my classes.

    Does anyone know?

  • How can I use apple remote with Mountain Lion? Any Front Row alternative?

    Hi All,
I recently upgraded from Snow Leopard to Mountain Lion.
All great except for my Apple Remote control.
Before, I could effectively control my iMac media with Apple Remote by using Front Row (music, photos, videos, good integration with iTunes and iPhoto).
Now, as I understand, Front Row is expired.
So, my Apple remote still works but with very limited options (just music, forward, backward and volume), and it's a real pity.
Any of you Guys know how to restore Front Row?
Otherwise maybe suggest an alternative (sth similar, should allow iMac media control by Apple Remote)?
So far I tried to restore all Front Row files by a Time Capsule Snow Leopard backup (as indicatred on some other Communities).
To restore was easy, but then, no way to launch it.
    Any advice will help!
    Thanks in advance/all the best.
    Marco

Thanks Klaus1 for your prompt answer, although I went again through a dated discussion.
I also got the feeling that somehow they want to push Apple TV..
But, respectfully speaking towards our Friends at Apple, is it fair to promise what you don't deliver?
I have choosen apple because I percive it's different.
    At currently published link: http://store.apple.com/uk/product/MC377Z/A/apple-remote
    they do promote the following:
    Apple Remote with Mac
The Apple Remote gives you total command of your music, photos, videos and DVDs from anywhere in the room. It works with Front Row - a menu-based, full-screen interface - to make accessing the digital content on your Mac as simple as navigating your iPod. When you press the Menu button, your desktop fades and the sleek, Front Row interface takes its place, to give you control over your music in iTunes, your photos in iPhoto, the videos in your Videos folder and your DVDs. Turn up the volume. Shuffle. Skip to the next chapter on your DVD. Play a slide show, a home video that you made in iMovie, even a film trailer.
Compatible with Apple products introduced in 2005 or later that have a built-in infrared (IR) receiver. Not compatible with MacBook Pro with Retina display.
Cost for this is 15£ (19€).
Now, I have iMac and Mac Book Pro (no retina display) both with Mountain Lion installed, and I understand both of them are not compatible with Front Row.
Actually I adore apple tv and I got 2 at home nicely working on 2 different TVs.
So I accomplished twice their wish of selling this product to me.
Why shall they deceive me (and many others, as I read) by killing a still promised service?
Should I read all forums before buying a trusted-brand-product like apple, to ensure that id does what declared?
Don't get me wrong, I'm an enthusiast user of the whole apple family, since many years, and still I am.
Just politely complaining for this decision, which creates to Many an easy avoidable disservice.
    Cheers
    Marco

  • 99% CPU on Front Row with Snow Leopard, possible workaround...

This might be helpful for some who have experienced this issue as well. It seems that Front Row will continue to work in the background when you exit from it using Apple - Q, but if you exit using the remote, holding down the Menu button for a couple of seconds it completely quits. You can check using Activity Monitor.

    I have similar problems.
I have an AirPort Extreme with two USB hard drives connected to it. One drive is for media such as our iTunes library and some movies. The other drive is used as TimeMachine backup.
After upgrading to Snow Leopard we only have sporadic access to the media drive with our two laptops (MacBook Pro and MacBook) and the TimeMachine backups have stopped working completely because TM can not connect to drive. Sometimes Finder can se the drives, but most of the time it does not. When drives are visible in Finder, most of the time we can not browse the folders on the drives at all.
AirPort Utility can detect the AirPort Extreme but when I attempt to configure the unit manually the program can not read the AirPort Extreme's configuration.
The AirPort appears to work all right when it comes to accessing the internet.
Apple needs to fix this AirPort debacle ASAP!

  • 2010 Mac Mini, Front Row and 5.1 Audio

I recently bought one of the new 2010 Mac mini's for my home theater. I have video going to my TV through HDMI. (I do not use the TV for audio.) I'm feeding audio to my receiver via optical. The problem I'm having is with 5.1 audio through Front Row. I've installed Perian and enabled AC3 passthrough. 5.1 audio works great when I play a video in iTunes (it also works with eyeTV). When I try to play the same movies through Front Row, I'm stuck with stereo audio and see no way to change it. Any ideas?
    Thanks in advance!

I too have the latest mini, hooked up to a Denon receiver via pass-through HDMI.
I am not an audiophile in terms of setting up this stuff and just want to know what I need to do to get the optimum performance out of this mini, audio wise.
When I go to Audio MIDI Setup app, my receiver (DENON-AVAMP) is listed next to the "source" button. I have no clue about channels, bits, etc. When I click on the "Configure Speakers" button I am presented with different configurations so I selected "Multichannel" versus "Stereo". And I can see where you can test all 5 speakers and subwoofer, but I just don't know which "format" I am supposed to select.
The 5.1 mapping is shown when I select 8 channel/16 bit, 8 channel/20 bit, or 8 channel 24 bit. I can click on each speaker in this map and it tests properly no matter which one of the above combinations I select. Just not sure which one I am supposed to be using.
All I know is my Denon is a 5.1 system and all this works perfectly (getting 5.1 sound) with my Playstation 3 hooked up the same way to the Denon.
Does anybody know the correct settings to output 5.1 sound from this Mac Mini?
    Thanks guys!

  • Mac Mini, Front Row and projection TV?

I am wondering whether our plan to get a new MacMini with Front Row to be the heart of our entertainment system is a good idea. We want to use the Mac as our DVD player and stereo (music) source. We also want to get a fairly high resolution projector (like the ones used for presentations) instead of a TV, probably for ~ $1500.
We saw a projection setup at a friend's house (not with Mac, just used for TV) and it was fabulous to watch a basketball game in giant size on their white wall. They could switch from letterbox format to regular TV size display at the push of a button. The picture was very clear.
Our new house will also have a large wall space available. Has anyone done this kind of setup? What words of wisdom, advice, or warning do you have in terms of the setup or the type of projector to get?

  • Using my TV for Front Row

First of all, apologies if this question has been asked before. I did search for it, but couldn't find it anywhere.
I have an iMac on my desk, and right next to my desk I have a 32" Samsung HD TV (Model No: LE32C450). As I don't have a DVD player for my TV, I was wondering if there was any way that I could connect my iMac to my TV for watching movies using Front Row? And before anyone says it, I know I could just buy a DVD player for like £20, but I wouldn't just be using this for DVDs.
Now, I'm not all that good with the technical side of stuff, such as which cables and adapters I'd need, or if I'd need any special software and things like that. My iMac has a Mini DisplayPort, and my TV has 3 HDMI slots, and according to the manual for the TV, one of them is DVI.
I know it's possible to use a TV as a monitor, but would it work for what I want? The iMac doesn't seem to have an Audio Out slot, so I guess I couldn't use my TV's speakers? And would the resolution be good enough for things like movies? I believe the TV is 720p (so not full HD) if that makes any difference. Basically, I don't want to spend money on this if the picture and/or sound are going to be poor.
Sorry for such a long question, but any help would be much appreciated. If you need any more info, just ask and I'll do my best.
    Thanks

Actually, it's a little more complicated than Kappy suggests. "Pairing" the remote means only ONE remote will control the device that's been paired. However, that same remote will still control other devices. So, unless you have two remotes and can pair each one with one device (computer & Apple TV), one device will still receive stray commands.
If you do have two remotes, then pair one to the Apple TV and the other to the MacBook. Then they won't get confused. Pairing a remote with the Apple TV does NOT appear in Mac OS X help at least not in either Mac I checked. However, pairing a remote with a computer does:
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?path=Mac/10.5/en/8993.html
Pairing your remote with the Apple TV:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1555
If you only have one remote, in the MacBook's Security System Preferences, check on the option to disable the built-in IR receiver. With the receiver off, the MacBook won't react to any signals from the Apple TVs remote.

  • ITunes 7.4 will not stream video through front row

I just updated both my macbook pro and my mac mini to iTunes 7.4.1(2). I also updated the firmware for my airport extreme base station. I can no longer stream video using front-row. This happened before when I updated to iTunes 7.2! I suspect, like before, apple will have to send out a patch. Anyone else expierenced this?

Try turning IPv6 ON in your network preferences - this is helping SOME people with this problem. It won't help you at all if your network router doesn't do IPv6.
To turn on: go to Network Preferences, select the interface you use, under teh TCP/IP tab click 'Configure IPv6', and choose 'Automatic'. Save changes.

  • Places is not shown in front row

when I go to front row,it shows that there is no photo in this album, while I have photos linked to google maps in iPhoto!

  • IPhoto Slideshow music settings/Front Row

I recently purchase a Mac Mini to use as a media center PC. I have imported photo's into iPhoto and configured slide shows with appropriate music ... in iPhoto all these settings work fine. When I access these photo's via Front Row
however, each of the slide shows plays with Minuet in G and my iPhoto music settings are ignored. any thoughts would be most welcome on how to have my iPhoto slide show music recognized with Front Row.
    Thanks,
    Paul

Well I may have found my answer ... If I run slideshows in Front Row from
Photos/Events I have the Minuet in G problem ... if I create albums in iPhoto and run the Event from within an album, the music selected in this album slideshow holds in Front Row ... at any rate it works for me!

  • Front Row and 1080P HDTV

I have my MacBook Pro connected to 1080p TV via HDMI-DVI cable. In Front Row, I went to look at movie trailers. They SEEM to not be playing in HD? However, the same trailer viewed via apple.com/trailers site DO seem to be in HD? Am I imagining? Or can I tell Front Row to play 1080p trailers for me?
I'm wondering what will happen if I try to watch movies via Front Row? Will it know they are HDTV?

Oh, yes. As I say, if I go to apple.com/trailers, and click the 1080p version of a trailer to view, it shows fine. Its just that going through Front Row, it seem to show a lower resolution.. This could be that Front Row is just designed to pull down the lower resolution version? I was just wondering if this is configurable...

  • Front Row Video Support

I am using Front Row on my intel iMac. I am trying to find out what video formats it supports and if there is any configuration that can be done for Front Row. Does Front Row support MPEG2 video display?
intel iMac   Mac OS X (10.4.5)

Are you looking for someone to help, or just try to criticize?
Yes, I know that Apple is not perfect, but they are as close to being perfect as any other company I know. Just look at Microsoft and try to say the word perfect, it does not even fit into their way of thinking.
    Now...
Apple does not support copying movies, for one simple fact. They have the music/recording industries snooping down their backs every waking moment because of the iPod and iTunes. Apple of all companies of course would never support copying movies anyway, they would not risk their reputation. Not only that, but Front Row, and iTunes is just music storing softwares anyway. Front Row is a playback application, and I have Windows MCE (Stupid Media Center Edition), and it does not copy movies either.
    However...
There are third-party application that you can easily download and install that will copy the movies for you. HandBrake (http://handbrake.m0k.org/) is one such app.
Please quit criticizing Apple for it's brand new application which is in its first version, that beat's Windows Media Centers 3rd Edition. And Apple's software is first class. If you want crap, then just look at some of Microsoft's software, even on the Mac platform it is horrible.
And you can easily add folders, since front row just look in your users movies folder, you can add the folders there, and drop the media file in.

  • Displaying Front Row on TV Instead of Computer

I've connected my computer to my HD TV using a DVI-to-HDMI cable, however, even when I set the TV to be the main monitor, when I launch Front Row, it comes up on my laptops screen. How do I make it come up on my TCV screen?

You must have a third party hack like "Insomnia" installed. According to Apple, when you close the lid of a portable Apple computer, it should go to sleep. However, if you have an external keyboard (USB or Bluetooth) attached/paired, AC power plugged in and an external monitor connected then you can wake the computer.
If you have AC power and an external monitor plugged in, you should be able to wake the computer with the Apple remote. This is not documented by Apple, but people here in this forum have had it work.
In addition, people here have reported that they must restart after moving the menubar to the TV to make it the "main" screen before Front Row in Mac OS X 10.5 will recognize this configuration.

  • Front Row behaviour changed

    Hi.
I am using my mac mini as a media station and to watch TV a lot. To bring Front Row and eyetv together, I used this tip of elgato: http://forums.elgato.com/viewtopic.php?f=96&t=1360
Despite the performance issues of Front Row (http://www.tuaw.com/2009/09/01/front-row-performance-takes-a-dive-with-newest-ki tty/) the configuration of Front Row changed after the Snow Leopard Update.
It is not possible to access Front Row with a long press of the menu button from eyetv anymore. Does anybody know how to get back the default behaviour of the eyetv tip?

    Hey,
as someone earlier said it seems to be an issue with the screen saver.
However i didn´t have to turn mine off alltogether. If you go to the settings pane in Front Row and turn the screen saver off it is just inactive when Front Row is enabled. Why would you want a screen saver then anyways?
This fixed the problem for me.
