Is GarageBand somehow "warmer" by default?

Hey all. Okay, I've just put together a little audio post production studio and am interfacing it with my Mac Pro.
I basically have a set of BX5a Delulxe monitors, a Fast Track Ultra, a set of Ultimate Ears 'headphones,' and finally, a Sputnik Tube Mic.
Everything is working well and sounds great - and that brings me to the question: I wonder if there are some internal settings in garage band that cause the recorded output to sound somehow better than it should - or would in another piece of software? Using the Fast Track Ultra's control panel, you can monitor the Hardware Inputs and the Software returns.
Here's where I have to admit being an animator and I'm still learning the technical in's and out's of audio.
And maybe I'm crazy, but, when I listen to the Hardware Inputs only, the sound is very much flat and clean.
But, when I listen to the same sound - even when monitoring through Garage Band - the flat, clean sound seems to have a little echo or reverb and the tone is much warmer.
And that said, when I look at the track inputs of Garage Band, I have all of the effects turned off.
Is there another set of controls effecting the sound - such as Master Track? I guess that makes sense that there could be effects stacked on top of track effects -
- man do I have a lot to learn!!!

Sitting here..... hummming to myself.... mmmmmmmm...mnnnnnn...mmhhhhhhh
Will the sun come out? hmmmmmmm.... mmmmmmmm...mmmnhhhhhhhh.
Maybe it's a weekend and all the technical folk are hung over and haven't woken up yet?

    thanks!!!

Clcik on a file that wants to use QT, CMD+I, click on the drop-down menu in the Open with section, select the Installer.app, click on the Change all button, and close the window. Double-click on the file and it should open with the Installer.app. If not, reset the LaunchServices database as described in http://www.thexlab.com/faqs/resetlaunchservices.html

  • Set and save preferences/default in Save-For-Web?

I used PE2 forever, even as my Mac OS updated. Now, however, on Snow Leopard, I had to get PE8, and I'm a little lost. In PE2, if I used the same custom setting in Save-For-Web, after awhile, it just kept it and that somehow became my default. It was marvelous. Now, in PE8, the JPG quality is always set to 0. I would like to set it to something I like (I am not completely happy with the presets), and have that come up as the default. Thank you very much for all of  your help.

*sigh* That does seem to be the case. It will remember the same setting for that one picture, but not for the rest of them in my project bin, so not even from opening the program until it is closed. Such a shame. Reset, of course, works just fine. But thank you for answering it for me.
    Cheers,

  • How to change default font in Numbers?

Is it possible to somehow change the default font when creating new documents in Numbers from "Helvetica Neue" to just "Helvetica", size 11? Changing the font and saving the document as new template simply does not work since the font in newly created tables in the new document using the new template still falls back to "Helvetica Neue".

    Here is an enhanced version.
You may use it with the three components of iWorks.
It is also available for free on my iDisk:

  • How can i change the default icon of a new folder?

what i mean is like every time i create a new folder instead of changing the icon after its created, can i somehow change the default icon on a new folder i create? so when i create a new folder its created with the icon i want it to have?
and i want to do it manually i dont want to use programs for it
    thanks

why not? use LiteIcon then. it's free and is MUCH safer than mucking with system files by hand. if you insist you can do it as follows. go to /system/library/coreservices. control-click on coretypes.bundle and select "show package contents". go to contents-> resources. change the file GenericFolderIcon.icns with your own .icns file. back up the original bundle first.

If you're referring to what I think you're referring to, that's the Site Manager dropdown box where you can quick jump between sites in DW and select which site you want to work on.
Click the box (where it says Computer) and select "AAA_WebSite" from the dropdown menu.

    Dear all,
I have the following question: is it possible to somehow change the default span between the iView frame and the actual java iView inside of it, i.e.

If you are using HTMLB, you could use the Form Layout control.  Form layout has margin attributes that you could use.

  • Help!!! I deleted my default icon sets

OMG I just deleted my default icon set!!!
I accidentally overwritten all of them on candybar 2.6..!!! what should I do? Is there any way to restore it without re-installing MacOSX???
I changed my default aqua theme with Shapeshifter. then I decided that I don't like the icons set, so what I should've done is reset it first to default aqua icon set in Shapeshifter. But I didn't, I tried to reset it and apply a new one via Candybar.
So when I opened Candybar, a message came up telling if I want to overwrite the current icon set as my default. Stupidly, I pressed yes!!! Now this new icon set becomes my default aqua set, even if I use the restore defalut option in Candybar, it loads this new set!!!
I did search on spotlight on "icons" somehow all my default icon are stored in candybar application support folder?? can anyone tell me where MacOS store the icon files?

I'm not sure, but I have the feeling your Mac wouldn't like that very much. Reaching deep down into the system and plucking part of it out while it's running is a recipe for disaster. Also, while there are many icons there, not all are in CoreTypes.bundle. Some like Finder, Dock, HelpViewer are in CoreServices folder.
I would say to try the the 10.4.6 Stand Alone Combo Updater.
Since this is a fuller install, as opposed to an incremental "delta" update so it should overwrite any files that are damaged or missing. It does not matter if you have applied it before. But since these icons were changed with the apps you used, I doubt that an update would change them back.
I would live with the icons you have until we can find a good solution. If you really can't bear it you could "archive & install" and then reapply the 10.4.6 Combo Update.
What about the "Previous System" folder you have from the old archive & install? Were you able to get to the old CoreServices and dig out any icons there?

  • I don't have GarageBand :-(

I got my 2006 black Macbook repaired at a local place, and when they installed the software, they didn't install GarageBand, somehow. I own both OS X and OS X Snow Leopard (I know, I'm behind), so I know that I own it. Is there a way to get GarageBand, legally, again? I was going to try installing from my boot disc, but it freezes for much longer than I'm wiling to wait around for, so I need another option.
    Thank you.

If you supplied the repair shop with an original install-restore DVD for OS X that shipped with your computer Or an iLife install DVD of the vintage suitable for use with the OS X system they installed in your MacBook, then maybe they'd have put it there. If not and your only Garage Band was on an original install-restore set, then they may have used a system installer they had on hand. You don't really say enough there to speculate further.
You could check a special utility from Charlesoft by the name Pacifist, it can extract applications or other software from an installer DVD without using the installer on the DVD; this then takes those parts and can install the software or application you want from the Mac OS X desktop. Pacifist runs in a demo mode but is shareware, the product is from its maker, so it usually works fine. But it is different than one may expect.
If your MacBook is still running Snow Leopard 10.6.8, and the computer has a 32-bit processor, the version of Pacifist is the latest one among the vintage versions shown here; for early Intel & also works with PPC: http://www.charlessoft.com/pacifist_olderversions.html
For Macs that run Mac OS X 10.6.8 with 64-bit cpu or Later, the newer version is available here: http://www.charlessoft.com/index.html
Or the other option is to be on the lookout and buy a suitable iLife retail disc set best suited for your Mac and OS X versions.
    Good luck!

  • I want Google in the upper-right search bar. All defaults have been erased. Clicking on "Manage Search Engines" doesn't offer Google as an option. What do I do?

Running various anti-spyware programs to fix a Google search hijack/redirect problem, somehow all the default options that are originally supplied by Firefox for search engines in the search bar to the right of the URL bar have disappeared. In the "Manage Search Engines" window, the "Restore Defaults" button is greyed out and not operational. The "Get more search engines" link takes me to a long list of search engines which does NOT show the usual defaults, like Google. How do I get Google back into the search bar? (You correctly show my current browser and OS.)

Do you see the default search engines in the searchplugins folder in the Firefox program folder (C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox\) ?

  • Do owners of the previous version of garageband need to pay $4.99 for full content on the new version?

Hi guys, ilife 11 was included with my 2012 macbook air.  When the new versions of the ilife apps were released recently, I could upgrade imovie and iphoto to the new version in the app store.  However, garageband didn't show up as an update, but I could download the free version of garageband 10.  It seems like the full content isn't included and I need to pay the $4.99 in-app-puchase fee to get full content.
I was wondering if this is what others have noticed.
Are owners of the previous version of garageband supposed to get the new version 10 with the full content for free?
    Thanks so much

It seems like the full content isn't included and I need to pay the $4.99 in-app-puchase fee to get full content.
Where have you looked? I found all previous content in GB 10 without buying more contents.
First of all, disable all filters. GarageBand 10 will by default come up with "Filter for more relevant contents" enabled and only display a few loops - at least, it did for me.
Rebuild your Loop index from the pop-up menu at the top of the loop browser. Look for your previous instruments in the "Legacy" section of the Instruments panel in the Inspector. See my post here for a few screenshots of the controls and menus you need to be looking for:
