Is 'geotagging' used for anything?

am I missing some functionality on my iphone? i grasp the geotag function, and unlike some my phone does seem to record the info in the exif or metadata (whichever it is)
my question is, is it put to any use? if i download the pics to iphoto (which i never use) and fish around i can find a set of co-ordinates... that's it? no map, no city, street or country info?
i assumed i'd be able to bring this info up on the phone itself. maybe pinpoint it on google maps, save the location or... do something!
or am i missing it, is there some functionality built into the phone that i've overlooked?
of all the features on the iphone, the camera seems the most half-baked. from what i've gathered, cameraphones, be they still or video; MMS and the like isn't something thats cared for in the states, but it's a huge deal here in the uk. and one apple should address. i use nearly every other feature on the phone, but the camera is next to useless; it's the only thing i miss on my old nokia.

if you upload those pictures to some sort of online albume (web picasa, for example), and those picutres are geotagged, it will show on the map where those pictures were taken. additionally, say you took a picture of central park, ny; if someone searched "central park" in google or google maps, it may use your picture to show the searcher what a shot of central park may look like.

Just wondering if my time capsule which is 2T can be used for anything else other than as backup. As a router it is working great and as backup no problems. However, for example can I use Apple TV with it.

Productive uses for Mac Mini?

Hi all, I remember using my PC to download music back when i had dial up 10 years ago. I used to leave it running all night and in this way it was doing something productive. Now I have broadband and it's no longer an issue.
It seems like new hardware is mainly used for gaming. Can it be used for anything productive? what can I do with a Mac Mini to make my life better/more efficient.
I'm looking for something that I don't need to actively be at the Mac Mini and just want it to work by itself.
Is there anything else I could have my Mac Mini do during the night?
I thought the folks on here would have the knowledge I'm looking for!
I don't mind spending time learning a programming language if it'll give me a chance to use the Mac Mini for something!

Useful for almost anything, as a computer can run scripts or macros to perform tasks automatically; could be used for a total house control system, everything from feeding a kitty to open/close windows, on/off lights, water a yard, mow the lawn, and anything wireless technologies could do.
I even saw where someone put a mini in their car several years ago and it helped keep the owner connected to the internet, had touchscreen, voice communication without a handset, etc. Since it runs off DC voltage, it could run on a DC-to-DC converter, and not need an AC power supply. It could control a solar power grid with backup generation. There are so many devices that control other things. And room for a few more, if you want to put together some parts or make something to perform a task not done a peculiar way, before. With a round world, our night is someone elses day. What can you do for them half a world away? Is your imagination as boundless as it needs to be, to innovate a new or fun thing? Or be one of a few to offer a unique service. Put the mini in a helium balloon and let it go solar power, with backup battery, above the clouds and pollution. Wireless. Like a micro radio station to walk dogs.
If you are looking for a task for a Mini, you could let a server farm host it for you in their own facility. Not sure if that would be profitable to you, though. But then you wouldn't have to look at it! LOL

Is this really used for scoring? i mean there is not offset for timecode +

This can't be used for anything but a stereo audio editor. I have tried to use STP to do audio for video, but there isn't a tempo window as in Logic.
i have striped a QT file in FCP 5.1 01:00:00;00. i have set the timecode 01:00:00:00 on beat 1 in STP. set the frame rate as 30/29.97d, but when i start the movie in STP the transport time code is always off from the timecode on the QT video. How are you suppose to work like this. you do not have enough preference control to set anything.
can someone clarify this to me. Please. I love the wave editor, but I would like to use it as it is advertised.

I would, but it like 4 hundredths off. i don't know if i can get that kind of accuracy by dragging a quicktime bar. it seems that there is a latency from when the audio starts playing, and when the movie starts playing. if i drag the quicktime bar to where the stripped timecode on the qt movie matches what STP's timecode is will it not get out of sync when i have to start back at 01:00:00;00? i wish there was a place do start movie at bar. I have looked in the prefs, and it just says "what is starting timecode" how lame. STP seems to be an audio editor at best. maybe your work around will work.
it is odd to me. I have setup this in Logic with some help of iS, Rohan and J72, but am having trouble with STP.

What instance number and config set number am I supposed to use for ODISRV?

I'm trying to get one way sync working from ADS to OID using the OID that comes with Collaboration Suite 10.1.2 on Windows. The sync works fine if I run it manually (I forget the command I used for that). I can see user accounts show up in the DIT. The problem is that the sync never happens on a scheduled basis and it looks like it is due to ODISRV not running even after I did what the docs said and attempted to start it. It started with no errors but I guess the log file contained all the actual errors.
The docs say to specify an instance number > 0 and a config set. Well, it's clear as mud as to which number to actually use. I assmed the configset value happened to match the nubmer in the Directory Manager GUI under the Integration Server entry (which was configset1 for me). I've tried to specify 1 2 and 3 for the instance numbers and I don't know what I'm supposed to use (and some of them are already being used so the command fails). How many instances are there running by default for ODISRV and how many for OID itself? What number should I be using based on that?
Here are some entries in my logs:
oidldap01s1304.log- OpName=search, duplicate while inserting in Hash Table.
My comment on that snippet is a duplicate what? and what the hell hash table is it trying to use? The info isn't helpful at all.
odisrv02.log- port 389/profile grp 999: registration failure, config set 1 already being executed by instance 0
odisrv01.log- port 636/profile default: config set 0 already being executed by instance 2.
oidmon.log - retry counts exceeded are listed for both odisrv01 and 02
In all those logs the those errors keep repeating. I don't need OID on port 636 so is there a way I can stop/delete that while I'm fixing the sync issue? I saw nothing in the OEM website that allowed me to remove the SSL configuration.
If I try stopping either instance 0 or 1 and try to restart I can't because the instance number is already used. What the hell am I supposed to do then? That means I can stop everything and not be able to start anything back up, does it not?

GT/s is gigatransfer per second. It takes into account the overhead of the PCIe bus.

Can a back to school gift card be used for music as well?

I recent purchased a mac book and received a $100 gift card to go with it. I just want to know if the gift card can be used for music instead of "back to school apps" like the websiye says.

One other thread said it was fixed by waiting till prompted by iTunes to insert the blank disk, instead of putting it in first. Does that work? Found a number of hits on this Googling.

Have you tried restarting the Apple TV by removing ALL the cables for 30 seconds.
Are you connected to the network correctly.

I tried unplugging the cord that connects the HD to the iMac and plugging it back in, but I still get "The disk you inserted was not readable by this computer" below which are buttons for Initialize, Ignore and Eject. I was using a cord that went from larger square plug to larger square plug. So then I tried one that went from smaller square plug to what I think is USB (thin rectangular plug) of the sort that connects the keyboard and mouse. Thanks, Michael! I do hear it at times spooling up and running. Just after I bumped the thread I looked for troubleshooting for this drive online and found the manual which suggested using Disk Utility which I've seen before accidentally (if I hit Command Shift U instead of Shift U to type "Unit" on a new folder for a student's homework ) but had never really noticed. Disk Utility does see it and also a sub-something (directory?) which might be the Time Machine archives on the disk, called disk1s2), sort of the way that my iMac's hard drive shows up as 640.14 GB Nitachi HDT7... and has a sub-something titled DB iMac, which is what I named my iMac's hard drive.
Anyway the owner's manual just shows the image under the formatting section, not the troubleshooting section, but as soon as I saw it in the manual I remembered seeing it accidentally a few times, went to it, and am now verifying the disk. Right now it's telling me that it will take 2 hours to complete the verification, so I guess I have a bigt of a wait. :-)
Does that fact that Disk Utilities can see it mean it's not failed, or just that it hasn't completely failed?
I can see the virtue in having multiple redundant backups, or at least two backups. What do you suggest? Two external hard drives? I had this one linked by ethernet, and but I also have a cord that could link it by USB (like a printer), so if this one is reparable I could get a second one and link it by USB. If this one is not reparable I could get two and do the same thing. I do have an Airport so I suppose it's possible to get some sort of Wi-Fi hard drive (my new printer/scanner uses only the network and not a cable, although it has a cable that I used for the initial installation), but I'd suspect a Wi-Fi hard drive might have a higher price.
What hard drives, if any, do you recommend? I seem to recall that when I was looking at external hard drives 4 years ago, Apple's were substantially more expensive, which is why I got the OWC Mercury Elite All Pro.

If I understand correctly you'd like to save iCloud storage space by only backing up 1 of the 5 iPads to your account since they are all going to have very similar data and usage. You certainly can do that, but I do have to warn you that any unique data between them would be lost if you had to restore from that one backup made on another iPad so just keep that in mind. If you do need to restore in the future you can use this article to restore that iCloud backup:

I went into settings, iTunes & App Store and tapped on my appleID, then signed out. I went back into the App Store on my phone and tried to download the app and then signed in again, and it worked!
