Is HDD warranty still valid with expired Pavilion warranty?

I have an HP Pavilion g7-1070us Notebook with a confirmed dead Toshiba hard drive. The laptop was purchased in March, 2011, with the standard warranty expiring in April, 2012.
I've checked the hard drive's warranty through Toshiba's website and they say that it's covered until April, 2014. However, they also say that I have to go through the manufacturer for warranty work, since it's an OEM part.
Is this correct? If so, how do I get a replacement hard drive that's in warranty, when the laptop it was part of is not?

No, that is not what I said or what is occurring. The computer industy has always had retail replacement parts which carry a warranty from the manufacturer of the part, and then OEM parts (which might be identical) which are only warranted by the manufacturer of the final assembled product for the duration of the warranty on the whole PC. There never was a Toshiba warranty on a hard drive sold to HP for installation in laptops. That hard drive only carried an OEM warranty from HP. It has been this way for 20 years and would be the same on a Toshiba drive even if you had bought the laptop from Toshiba.
The component maker gives HP a huge, ginormous discount because the component maker is absolved from the warranty obligation, which is a large part of the cost of doing business. Can you imagine how much a laptop would cost if the manufacturer had to pay full boat retail for all the parts or even an extra 40 or 50% to induce the component manufacturer to offer its normal end user warranty?

I used Adobe Acrobat 8.2 to sign a PDF document with "certifying signature" (note: not approval signature) using a self-signed certificate and a remote TSA. I did NOT embed long term validation information as described here

The TSA certificate expired on a few days ago and now I am getting "not time valid" error on the TSA certificate (see attached mage)
The signature validates fine since I get the ribbon icon at the top for certified document as described here:

The problem is that I don't get the Clock symbol on the timestamp because Signature Properties says
"signature is timestamped but timestamp could not be verified"
The trust settings for all certificates are fine.
I also changed "Verification Time" in Edit-->Security-->Advanced preferences to be "Time signature was created".
I validated the signature using Adobe Reader 8 as well as 9 and got the same error.
What am I doing or expecting that is wrong ?

Have a still folder with a question mark and OS on external HDD isn't loading onto the Mac Pro

Good Morning....... I'm having an issue with this Mac Pro I've recently purchased that came with an 500GB HDD and I added an 2TB HDD also, but it never had an OS on it and when you power on the Mac Pro, you'll get a still folder with a question mark on it. I am very determined to get this situation corrected!!! I had got a copy of Snow Leopard on a blank DVD from a friend of mine but nothing had changed or occurred when I put it in the optical drive & I even saved Maverick installation on an external HDD; it read the drive when I held down the option key during the startup chime, I choose the external because that’s the only volume it shown on the screen; nothing else!!! No sign of the copied disk, the two HDDs that's in the Mac Pro, just the external HDD with the OS on it; I choose the external with Maverick on it but it still doesn't read and then a still folder with the question mark appears..... Can someone please help & save me PLEASE?????????

Timestamped document with expired certificate - not validating

Hi,
I have a document that was timestamped and certified on 2010/11/23 15:32:16 -03'00'. The timestamp certificate is still valid, but the certifier's certificate expired on 2010/12/11 07:00:00 -03'00'.
The Reader can't validate this certificate, eventhough the Security configuration says that it should use the "secure time" and accept expired timestamps.
In "Signature Properties" it says:
The signer's identity is unknown because it has expired or is not yet valid.
In "Certificate Viewer" it says:
The selected certificate has errors: Not time valid
Shouldn't the validation use the timestamp as a source for time validation?

If you damaged the screen, then yes, you have to pay. But most Apple stores can replace the screen for a relatively small fee. If the screen was defective there will be no charge for replacement.

You can try this.
Go to OVA2, select "A-Sales Header" and double click on Procedures. Again select "10-Inquiry/Quotation" and double click on Fields. Now tick the box "Warning" for VBAK / BNDDT

How to deal with expired passwords in authentication schemes?

I am trying to build an authentication scheme that deals with expired passwords. After the user has provided their valid but expired password they should be redirected to a password reset page. After they have provided a new password they should be allowed to continue to the page they would have otherwise gone to had their password not expired.
I have written my authentication processs as follows:

This redirects the user to the password reset page but FSP_AFTER_PASSWORD_RESET_URL is null - presumably because the login process changes the session.
This seems the wrong approach anyway as the user, once authenticated, can change the page number in the URL and avoid the password reset. I would guess that I need to use the APEX_CUSTOM_AUTH package somehow. However, I am thoroughly confused about the relationship between the LOGIN and POST_LOGIN procedures. Also, I gather from other posts in this forum that there is some asynchronous processing that goes on as new sessions are created. Can someone point me in the right direction please?

Scott's proposal is a tiny tiny bit awkward as,if i understand it correctly, the user would have to reauthenticate after resetting the password.
/dev/null's suggestion is actually not too bad for me. I already have each page being authorised and I use only a limited mumber of (once per session) authorization schemes. I think all I have to do is to place an extra line or two in each scheme to check the expiration date of the user's password and remember to call APEX_UTIL.RESET_AUTHORIZATIONS when the password is reset.
I successfully redirected to the password reset page using owa_util.redirect_url from the post-authentication procedure but what I am still having trouble with is the deep-linking bit. It seems I have to obtain the target URL by 'editing' FSP_AFTER_LOGIN_URL to replace '|' characters by ':' characters and inserting the session id in the right place. Given the fact that FSP_AFTER_LOGIN_URL may not be set and that there may not be sufficient ':' characters in the URL this is very clunky.
Is there an easier way to do this?

I do the same thing as you do...
My music is on an external drive as to not use up gigabytes of storage that need not be used for media.
There are a couple basic principles to iTunes that I believe you should know.
1. iTunes is not a media storage program. It does not store your media "in iTunes". It simply is an organization tool for your media already on a hard disk.
2. As iTunes is not a storage mechanism, it has no way to "know" whether or not the media that is listed is actually there. This is where the "design" of iTunes comes into play.
I like to think of iTunes as a bread-crumb trail. The "music" in iTunes, isn't actually there. The bread crumb is the location on the external hard drive.
If that bread crumb trail disappears (in this case the external drive you use). If said external drive is not plugged in, that bread crumb trail is not able to be followed. iTunes is "lost" and unable to find the media. The only way to remedy this is to place the media on your local drive.
To address your issue of the library. If you hold down shift, you can select your library on your external drive. It will be a file with an .itl extension. The folder name will be your external drive.
I go into edit > preferences > advanced and set my library to the correct location. Make sure you check the box "Copy to iTunes Folder when importing" (or whatever it says).
You can't fix the issue of iTunes not seeing the media if your drive is unplugged unless you physically move the content to your OS HDD...Or any other HDD you use.

HT5498 Is this information still valid after one and a half years? Are the lightning-to-HDMI or lightning-to-VGA cables the only available options to send video to a TV set?

There is a relative using an iPhone 5s and is interested in streaming video from her iPhone to an old TV set; unfortunately the TV set does not have either HDMI or VGA connectors; therefore we figured out getting a "lightning-to-30 Pin adapter", plug it to the iPhone 5s and use an old "Composite AV Cable" to do the trick. However, I found this post informing video streaming is not possible through the "lightning-to-30 Pin adapter", but -considering its post date- I would like to know if that info is still valid or if something has changed since then. Obviously changing the TV set is not an option, we have a limited "budget" to solve this.

Thanks for the feedback Rudegar. We're not planning using airplay mirroring using AppleTV, but directly as it used to work with old iPhone 4S. Just attaching the composite video cable (30pin-to-Composite) to the iPhone 4 worked on almost any TV set equipped with composite jacks. Maybe I have to rewrite the question to "...available wired options to send video to a TV set?"

I don't see a problem with your code. You might put in a print statement and make sure that strQueryParams contains what you're expecting.
When you're testing, are you using the same book more than once? If so, ACS can get confused about which voucher to use and use an old one.
- either use a different book each time
- or after each test, reset Acrobat or Reader on your test download machine. Adobe has a KB article:

Thank you for your reply, however, that doesn't work in this case. I've tried to detect the serial using Coconut Identity as well, it doesn't work. ASP shows nothing (for both X and 9).
Would there be a serial on the motherboard or somewhere where I have yet to try looking?
p.s. for your information, ASP displays the ROM version in OS 9 and n.a. for the rest of the fields, in OS X, even the ROM version is not displayed. I tried 10.0.3, 10.1, 10.2 and 10.3 (via Xpost)

Pubkey with expired Accounts

I mentioned that a SSH-Login with Pubkey-Auth doesn't work in Solaris with expired Passwords. It just askes for a password.
For example an SSH-Login with Pubkey doesn't work with....
grep userxy /etc/shadow

But it works after setting a new password with....
grep userxy /etc/shadow
userxy1:$2a$04$mymegahash2:1582:0:90::::
So I tried to figure out how to deactivate this behaviour.
SSH uses PAM by default and pam_unix_cred.so.1 checks the account expiry. But even the PAM-Debug Log only contains a msg about an invalid Pubkey (that's not true). And as I said before, after setting the password it works.... (PAM Log: http://pastebin.com/Xe44nAqs)
My pam.conf isn't modified and this are my relevant lines from sshd_config:
PermitEmptyPasswords no
PasswordAuthentication yes
PAMAuthenticationViaKBDInt yes
Thats what I want to have:
- If there is a pubkey for the user: grant login (even with expired passwords)
- if there is no pubkey: do password-auth for not-expired password; dont allow login for expired user
I still tried so much different configurations that I am just confused now. Do you have any suggestions?
