Is iChat going to be affected by the end of MobileMe?
Will iChat stay the same as it is now, once MobileMe ends?

So far Apple have created at least 4 types of ID.
Immediately prior to MobileMe was .Mac
.Mac allowed free trial accounts for 60 days but the names were valid as iChat/AIM Screen Names after this period was up.
When MobileMe came along you had to register a Credit Card and actively cancel any Trial period before the 60 days was up.
This stopped the name being valid with the AIM servers (They could not access the Password) after the account. Trial or otherwise lapsed.
Since June last year MobileMe accounts have been becoming invalid. (well, expired really)
In some cases people moved to the iCloud issued @Me.com names (it seems these can be the "same" name but are effectively two names leading to the same account.
If you had a .Mac service Name and linked this to the MobileMe @me.com name at the .Mac to MobileMe change over you will possibly still be using the @mac.com ID as a valid email address where you can log in as @me.com and @mac.com to the same account in the same manner.
This leaves you with a potential Name issue that will be Valid with AIM if you have one of the last Active MobileMe names.
Options
Create a free @mac.com name (keep the password to 16 characters or less)
Create an AIM Name
Create an iCloud Name (which may look to be the same as the @me.com name you are using).
The iCloud Names will only work in iChat 6 (Lion) and the Messages beta (and therefore presumably Messages in Mountain Lion).
This is due to the way iChat 6 et al logs in to the me.com server as well as AIM which in turn allows the AIM servers to "See" the password.

As far as I know, all the iPhones bought online or in the Apple Store ar unlocked.
Only carriers (e.g. T-mobile, Vodafone, O2) are able to lock a phone, Apple won't do that (afaik).
This would mean that you shouldn't need to unlock your iPhone.

HT5132 Aperture and the end of MobileMe
I have no MobileMe albums,
I switched to iCloud and still everytime time Aperture bothers me with "MobileMe has been discontinued" with a choice between "learn more" OR "ok".
OK hangs Aperture.
Found the answer in the "Preferences", "Web"You should have added the 'itunes:new-feed-url' tag to the MobileMe feed while you had the chance. As this is no longer possible, your only option is to email Support at podcasts 'at' apple.com and ask them to transfer iTunes' attentions to the new feed. Give them the iTunes Store URL, and the URLs of both feeds. I can't guarantee they will do this, but they have for others. Unfortunately your existing subscribers won't be notified of the change (as they would have silently been with the redirection tag) so for them it will just stop working.

My iMac all of the sudden started going in and out of the dashboard, then started changing all files on the desktop to 2's. It also did this when having another window open. Do I have a virus?

Performance tip: Keep the Desktop clutter-free (empty, if possible)
Mac OS X's Desktop is the de facto location for downloaded files, and for many users, in-progress works that will either be organized later or deleted altogether. The desktop can also be gluttonous, however, becoming a catch-all for files that linger indefinitely.
Unfortunately - aside from the effect of disarray it creates - keeping dozens or hundreds of files on the Desktop can significantly degrade performance. Not necessarily because the system is sluggish with regard to rendering the icons on the desktop and storing them in memory persistently (which may be true in some cases), but more likely because keeping an excessive number of items on the Desktop can cause the windowserver process to generate reams of logfiles, which obviously draws resources away from other system tasks. Each of your icons on your desktop is stored as a window in the window server, not as an alias. The more you have stored, the more strain it puts on the window server. Check your desktop for unnecessary icons and clear them out.
Keeping as few items as possible on the Desktop can prove a surprisingly effective performance boon. Even creating a single folder on your Desktop and placing all current and future clutter inside, then logging out and back in can provide an immediately noticeable speed boost, particularly for the Finder.
And it is why Apple invented 'Stacks' for Leopard.

Try logging on to AIM on port 443 rather than port 5190.
Go to IChat in the menu bar > Preferences > Accounts.
Log out of AIM and then use the Server Settings tab
Set the port to 443.
Log back in again.

Arrrgh! Aperture goes feral - Colours all over the place

I have only had the iMac for a week, so apologies if this is bleeding obvious to everybody else. Installed the Aperture trial tonite and imported my existing raw folder structure.
The resulting photos showing in Aperture 2.1.1 trial looked like pop art posters - lurid 2 - 4 tone greens and reds, white balance showing as 50000K (yes, fifty thousand), in combo with maxed out tint, over or under-expose settings. In some cases a whole session of photos would be affected, in others only a few.
To make matters worse, blown highlights and over-exposed areas are showing as hot pink, rather than the intended white glare. Note that the showing of blown areas is turned OFF....
Supporting info:
- camera is Nikon D40, auto white balance, NEF format RAW
- jpeg photos are not affected by the gremlins
- changing from version 2.1 to previous versions of the raw coverter does not fix the problem
- the NEF files show beautifully in ViewNX
- there is no correlation between adjustments made to photos in ViewNX (e.g. white balance or exposure tweaking) and aberrations in Aperture.
I had thought that Aperture was going to be my new default photo management and tweaking application, but it's effectively un-usable at the moment. Any advice most appreciated.PSE6 Mac Printing Colours darker than PSE4 - Adobe accepts fault

Finally a couple of replies from Adobe re colour problems and they have accepted that they are double managing the image and that I should use printer management to do the colour conversion.. here are their two replies and the comment that they will now drop me until???????

This issue is affecting all printers, not just Epson or Canon. The soft proofing effect that you are seeing in the print preview is indeed an attempt at soft proofing. However since Photoshop Elements managed prints are incorrectly double colour managed it is not as useful as it was initially designed. As to the exact details of why this occurred, we have no official information. We believe that this will resolve the issues you are experiencing, however, should the reply not help solve the problem, please contact us again, quoting the case number given above, and we will re-open the case.

You should certainly be able to add content by reference to itunes from such a disk (even before the update) - so long as itunes knows the location of the file (set Preferences not to copy to local library when adding the media) it will stream it to AppleTV if the disk is available.
I hope you're right, but I'd be surprised if current Extremes can be upgarded to provide a full Home Sharing service - marvellous if they can but I'd be surprised as i've long said we need an Apple media server either based on TC or AE to do this kind of thing.

I'm using Time Machine and a LaCie external drive to backup. I also have a 8 GB LaCie flash drive I want to use for small jobs. If I plug the LaCie flash drive in, is my Mac going to think it is the LaCie external drive and start trying to backup?

I opened my iPod Touch up to fix my home button. When i closed it back up it had a white screen. I tried pressing lock and home button for 10 seconds and it worked but while i'm using it it goes white with lines on the screen. Help please. I have been a customer for many years and for the most part have been satisfied with your service, but what happened to my Note 3 after the latest update is unacceptable. I see many people in this forum with similar issues that are getting stock answers that don't really address the issues, and show a lack of interest in solving the problems, and helping your customers.
I received my Galaxy Note 3 at the end of March, and I loved it. It was very reliable, fast, and I could go a whole day on the battery (Most of my days last at least 18 hours) making calls, streaming audio or video, even sharing my broadband connection with my tablet once in a while, and still show the battery was 50% charged. Until I received the 4.4.2 update on May 17th.
Immediately after the update (which I installed that morning, fresh off the charger) the battery only lasted until around 7 PM, when I plugged it into the charger first it didn't recognize it was even plugged in, and later kept telling me that I should use the original charger and cable for better performance.
The clock showed the time as an hour later, I had to manually set the time zone instead of using the "obtain time zone information from the network" feature.
The alarm clock randomly decides not to go off, this morning at 9:30 it still showed the alarm was set to go off at 8 am, but didn't.
Yesterday while a mile from my house I received a notification that I would be charged extra for data usage while roaming outside of the U.S. and asking did I want to use it or not, while It had already disable my data waiting for a response, this would be useful if I had been outside of the U.S. and not at home.
Don't tell me that my 45 day old battery lost 80% of it's functionality overnight because periodically they need to be replaced, while that is true it happens gradually over time and not within a 24 hour period. The other problems, while somewhat minor, are still annoying and detract from the reliability of this device. Not getting up on time because the alarm is unreliable is a big issue, I've used the alarm on my phones for 15 years without serious issues, and today I will be buying an alarm clock..
I've worked 30 years in the IT field, many of those helping people resolve technical issues and I know how to tell the different between user configuration issues and broken software, If you don't have a real answer to mine and other peoples concerns on this forum then maybe it is time to escalate this issue to someone that was involved with building this update.
I don't want to restore my phone unless it will actually solve the issue and not "lets see what happens when you do", because it would take me hours to reconfigure all of the software on my device. Removing the update is probably not an option, so what I really want to know is when will the update be pushed that will fix these issues?Frustrated_liz,
Hearing about all of the issues going on is upsetting to me, and so I can only imagine how you're feeling. I'm sorry you have to go through this experience. How hot is the phone getting? Hearing about it overheating is a huge safety concern and I'm worried. Have these service issues been going on since you got the phone?

I 'm getting message "Mozila Firefox not responding." It takes minutes to down load a site - some times just gets in a loop and never down loads. The little circle at top just keeps going round in circles .
Then when I try to click on the screen again the screen goes opaque and I get the same message re " Mozilla Firefox not responding" - and it is minutes before I can get back in to close down screen.

update to IOS 6 has been a nightmare. Facebook would allow me to save pictures unless I granted access to my foto album. Does this mean my pictures are going be planted all over the web? The safari keeps crashing and loading is slow. Most infuriating is that YouTube was deleted from my entertainment apps and I now have to pay for it if I want it back!! This is a bloody disgrace.

Boot into Recovery by holding down the key combination command-R at the startup chime. Release the keys when you see a gray screen with a spinning dial.

You need two names that can login into AIM.
In iChat you can use the Get an iChat Account which shows after you use the Plus Button in Accounts.
This will give you a free @mac.com Name
AIM Names are also free.

I'm trying to create a new ichat Acc because for some reason the old one is not working, so I go to Create an Apple ID and start creating a new apple ID, when I submit the Acc it tells me that my Email address is already verified for another Apple ID and thats the only email address I have... What can I do?
There is no way to consolidate iTunes accounts.
Setting up an iPhone has never required creation of a new Apple ID.
You've apparently purchased content with both Apple ID's. Sign into the device with the correct Apple ID and sync the content.
