  • My MacBook Pro (purchased in 2011) is taking 10 minutes to boot-up.  It's also taking much longer to open files.  I have 650 GB out of 700 GB left on my machine so it's not that I've overloaded the memory.  Is anyone else having this problem?

    Look at this comprehensive trouble shooting document;
    https://discussions.apple.com/docs/DOC-3353
I suggest that you start with SMC and PRAM resets.
    Then  a Safe Boot.
    Ciao.

    Need Help Ye,
boot your MacBook Pro into Recovery mode by holding down a Command key and the R key as it starts up. Once the Mac OS X Utilities menu appears, select Disk Utility. On the left-hand side of the Disk Utility window, select your internal disk’s boot partition (typically called “Macintosh HD”). On the right-hand side, press the Verify Disk button if it’s not greyed out; if it is greyed out, or if it reports that errors were found, press the Repair Disk button. Once the verification/repair is completed, exit Disk Utility and select Restart from the Apple menu to restart in normal mode. Is it still very slow?

Thank you - that all makes sense. It is, indeed, exactly what I did when I upgraded.
I'm also writing this on the machine that crashed a few minutes ago (I posted the crash in another thread). I got back with a 'safe boot' - as I have done a few times before.
I've also de-installed little snitch (and then done a safe-boot & then re-boot ) since that seemed involved. I de-installed Adobe flash, since that seemed to be a problem - I then re-installed the later, apparently fixed, flash. The most recent crashes don't seeme to have a problem with flash any more.
I've posted the various ( generally different ) crashes. I also posted a summary of the similar lines that turn up in most of the crashes.
Unfortuantely, I'm actually trying to use the machine to meet some urgent deadlines and all this is not making it at all easy.
I had had great hopes for 10.7.2 - I thought that the crashes must be pretty common, so would have a common aetiology. There do seem to have been some fundamental changes to the file sytem and to the video interface (that seems to cause problems to brand new iMacs as well as to my 2009 iMac).

  • Is iMessages still available to the macbook pro?

I downloaded the imessages beta for the macbook pro until recently when it stopped working.  I tried to uninstall and then reinstal it except i couldn't find the download link on the apple site anymore.  Is it no longer available?

Wait until Mountain Lion is released. It is going to included with Mountain Lion.
    Best.

  • What are the best graphics available for the Macbook Pro 13"

I am 13 years old and I am looking at a Macbook Pro.
I am between the 15" and 13". The only thing stopping me from going straight to the 13" is the graphics. I hear they aren't that good. Is there anyway to get the graphics from the 15" and 17" or just any graphics that are better than the 13" ones"?
I will be using it mainly for movies and games, but i am not a huge gamer and I dont expext the very best.

    Thanks
But the reason i like the 13" better is because i find the 15" to big for my liking.
Are the graphics that bad? Will i notice it?

  • Does the Macbook Pro 13" Early 2011 have Sandy Bridge?

I have the Early 2011 Macbook Pro 13" with an Intel i5 Processor. Some of my friends told me that only the Intel i7 Processor Macbook Pros have the new Sandy Bridge processor. Are they correct because the base model is the only Macbook Pro in the line to have an i5 Processor.

It is not stated in the specifications that either the i5 or i7 has a "Sandy Bridge", but they are the current intel processors, and will be followed by "Ivy Bridge" intel processors (assuming Apple sticks with intel for their processors).  Knowing now that our macs have the second generation "Sandy Bridge" intel processors.  More info: http://www.engadget.com/2011/01/03/intels-2nd-generation-core-processor-family-a nnounced-includes/. The first generation intel processors in the 13" MBP model prior to ours is called "Penryn".

  • Is airplay available with the MacBook Pro?

  • How do I link contacts on the MACBook Pro?

Is contact linking not available on the MACbook Pro?
    I'm using OSX 10.9.2, Contacts 8.0?
I can only find how to merge contacts on the MAC but not link them as I can on my iPhone. Am I missing something?

    Hello there, jimmyatpc.
Although each action is similar in each OS, they are ultimately a bit different. While contacts in Mavericks "merge" and become one contact (unless in different accounts), on iOS 7 when you link 2 contacts they remain two unique contacts and the information is just shared. See the following Knowledge Base article respectively to get a clear explanation of each:
    Contacts (Mavericks): Combine duplicate contacts
    http://support.apple.com/kb/PH15079
If you have more than one card for a contact, you can combine them, preserving all the unique information.
If the contact cards are in different accounts: You can link them, which retains the separate cards, but displays the combined contact information in one card.If contacts have the same name, the cards are linked automatically.
If the contact cards are in the same account: You can merged them, which combines the cards into one card.
If you remove an account with linked cards, the cards simply unlink, and only the cards in that account are removed.
    Add contacts - iPhone
    http://help.apple.com/iphone/7/#/iph14a87326
Unify contacts. If two entries for the same person aren’t linked automatically, you can unify them manually. Edit one of the contacts, tap Edit, then tap Link Contact and choose the other contact entry to link to.
Linked contacts aren’t merged. If you change or add information in a unified contact, the changes are copied to each source account where that information already exists.
If you link contacts with different first or last names, the names on the individual cards won’t change, but only one name appears on the unified card. To choose which name appears when you view the unified card, tap Edit, tap the linked card with the name you prefer, then tap Use This Name For Unified Card.
Thanks for reaching out to Apple Support Communities.
    Cheers,
    Pedro

  • MacBook Pro 13" Early 2011 - External display issues

I have an early 2011 MacBook Pro 13" (2.7GHz version) that I am using with an external non-Apple display.  I am having issues when MBP goes to sleep or trys to sleep the display.  The external display exibits one of a number of problems:  goes dark but does not power off the backlight or freezes up and requires being powered off then back on.  My display is an ASUS VW266H but it seems like this problem, or other similar problems, are happening with other non-Apple displays.
In calling Apple tech support of 5/27/11 they indicated that this is a known bug and they are working on a fix.  There was software update released 5/4/11 to  "improve graphics stability, address issues with external display" named MacBook Pro Software Update 1.4 (http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1382).  I downloaded this and applied it but it made no difference.
I experienced these problems with three different video adapters:  Apple's own mini DP to DVI, Belkin mini DP to HDMI and another brand of mini DP to HDMI also sold by the Apple store.
    So the questions are:
    1) Will Apple release another updated to address this incompatability or are they done with the issue given that they released the update mentioned above?
    2) Has anyone compiled a list of monitors that are know to work with these most recent MacBook Pros (the early 2011 versions with the Thunderbolt/mini DP combined ports)?
If you have used the MacBook Pro 13" early 2011 with an external monitor please respond to this post with your experiences so we can all know what works.

With my new 2011 13" MBP I'm having no latency issues using my '08 Samsung SyncMaster 2253BW DVI (digital) monitor. Sleep function awakens fine, goes to sleep 3-4 sec.
I'm using a cheapie model Syba MDP to DVI connector; here on Amazon:
    http://www.amazon.com/Syba-High-Quality-DisplayPort-Adapter/dp/B00342UT02/ref=sr _1_1?ie=UTF8&s=electronics&qid=1307389450&sr=8-1
I bought 2 in case one craps out on me...knock on wood. Good luck hope you find a solution.

  • I have iCloud on my MacBook Air.  Trying to set up icloud on another device- MacBook Pro.  I have OSx version 10.5.8 on the Pro.   The iCloud does not appear on my system preference/ Internet

How do I get the iCloud icon to appear in my System Preference/Internet & Wireless section to turn it on.  Again I only have Mobile Me icon.  When I check for updating of software it says there are no updates.  I currently have OS X Version 10.5.8 on the MacBook Pro that needs to have iCloud.

iCloud requires OS X Lion (10.7.5) or higher.  If you’re running 10.6.8 or earlier you will need to upgrade to either Lion higher in order to set up iCloud on your Mac.  First check to see if your system meets the system requirements to upgrade.
    Lion system requirements are:
Mac computer with an Intel Core 2 Duo, Core i3, Core i5, Core i7, or Xeon processor
    2GB of memory
    OS X v10.6.6 or later (v10.6.8 recommended)
    7GB of available space
Mountain Lion requirements are shown here: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT5444.
Mavericks requirements are shown here: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT5842.
If you can run Mavericks, you can purchase an upgrade from the Mac App Store.  If you can only run Lion or Mountain Lion, contact the online store in your country and purchase a redemption code to download it from the Mac App Store.
After upgrading, you will find iCloud in System Preferences>iCloud on your Mac, and can set it up as explained here: http://www.apple.com/icloud/setup/mac.html.
Before upgrading, you may want to check the compatibility of your existing programs by checking here: http://roaringapps.com/apps:table.

  • I have purchased MacBook Pro in November 2011. However, Pages, Numbers and Keynote comes as uninstalled in the App Store. How to correct this anomaly.

I have purchased MacBook Pro in November 2011. However, Pages, Numbers and Keynote (pre-installed) come as uninstalled in the App Store. How to correct this anomaly?

If the iWork apps were not originally purchased from the App Store, i.e., you bought them on an iWork installer DVD, then the App Store has no record of the purchase. When updates are available for them, you'll get your updates through the Software Update application rather than through the App Store.

What if I do not want to use IMAP or Exchange?  I do not like being forced to use technology I do not trust.
No, it is not a bug. It is working as designed. And there is noting in the manual that staes you can create folders for a POP account.
You do know that any email sent through a POP account stays on the provider's server (often for years) even if you delete it from your inboxes, right? Completely beyond your control. Refusing to use an IMAP service doesn't protect you from anything.

After some advice, I am new to Apple and looking to purchase either the MacBook Air 13inch with 256GB and 8GB mem or the MacBook Pro 13inch with retina 256Gb and 8GB mem. I am an assistant principal in a primary school and also studying my masters at university. I don't play computer games and I don't watch movies. I do store photos and videos of my kids and music on iTunes. I also like browsing the net with numerous windows open, check email etc. I am really wanting long battery life as I do a lot of my work on the couch - not close to a PowerPoint. Would the air do the trick or will it soon be outdated as Apple move towards retina display? Both air and pro seem very thin  - almost the same? And not much difference in weight either so both very portable which is also a necessary requirement. Just can't help dreaming about that 12 hour claimed battery life. Any helpful advice/opinions, very much appreciated. Thanks

It's not likely that you'll get 12 hours in reql life. Those benchmarks are set under very strict controlled conditions. Kind of like mileage per gallon claims on cars. If 16GB of ram is an option at all I'd highly recommend you get that. As far as storage 256GB isn't alot, consider storing some things on an external thunderbolt real
