Is iDVD compatibility with Yosemite?

Hi, everybody!
When I installed Yosemite in my iMac, I chose to perform a clean installation, so I lost all of my applications. So, I tried to reinstall iDVD but I could't find it in AppStore. As I've read, iDVD really doesn't appears for direct installation, so, I installed it from my iLife CD and updated it to version 7.1.2. But, when I try to run it, the app freezes and I'm obligated to quit it (most of time, force quit) and relaunch it. But, in a few seconds (or minutes), the app starts freezing again and this makes impossible for me to use it.
I thinks it's not a problem caused by lack of memory, since I have 16 GB installed here...
Is the app compatible with Yosemite? If it is, what do you suggest for me to solve this issue? If it's not, could you suggest another good DVD creator?
Thank you!

837.3MB for 59 minutes is incredibly small. What format are these files in?
Formats supported by iDVD 7:
http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?path=iDVD/7.0/en/6655.html
iDVD encoding settings:
http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1502?viewlocale=en_US
Short version:
Best Performance is for videos of up to 60 minutes
Best Quality is for videos of up to 120 minutes
Professional Quality is also for up to 120 minutes but even higher quality (and takes much longer)
That was for single-layer DVDs. Double these numbers for dual-layer DVDs.
Professional Quality: The Professional Quality option uses advanced two-pass technology to encode your video (The first pass determines which parts of the movie can be given greater compresson without quality loss and which parts can’t.  The second pass then encodes those different parts accordingly) , resulting in the best quality of video possible on your burned DVD. You can select this option regardless of your project’s duration (up to 2 hours of video for a single-layer disc and 4 hours for a double-layer disc). Because Professional Quality encoding is time-consuming (requiring about twice as much time to encode a project as the High Quality option, for example) choose it only if you are not concerned about the time taken.
In both cases the maximum length includes titles, transitions and effects etc. Allow about 15 minutes for these.
You can use the amount of video in your project as a rough determination of which method to choose. If your project has an hour or less of video (for a single-layer disc), choose Best Performance. If it has between 1 and 2 hours of video (for a single-layer disc), choose High Quality. If you want the best possible encoding quality for projects that are up to 2 hours (for a single-layer disc), choose Professional Quality. This option takes about twice as long as the High Quality option, so select it only if time is not an issue for you.
Use the Capacity meter in the Project Info window (choose Project > Project Info) to determine how many minutes of video your project contains.
NOTE: With the Best Performance setting, you can turn background encoding off by choosing Advanced > “Encode in Background.” The checkmark is removed to show it’s no longer selected. Turning off background encoding can help performance if your system seems sluggish.
And whilst checking these settings in iDVD Preferences, make sure that the settings for NTSC/PAL and DV/DV Widescreen are also what you want.

When you say iTunes 10 do you mean 10.5.3. If not, upgrade to it.
If trying different USB ports, even  a number of times, does not solve your problem then look at this link. If you are not using Windows then search for something comparable.

  • IPhoto compatibility with Yosemite

I just upgraded to Yosemite today and now I can't open iPhoto. When I try to, it says it's not compatible with Yosemite and I need to upgrade in the App Store. I don't have a problem upgrading iPhoto but I want to make sure that I can without losing my photos. Does anyone know?
    Thanks.

Lanny, I realize that there is a software update for iPhoto. I just want to make sure that I can run the update without losing my photos. Allan, I have Time Machine set up and run backups regularly. Would that be sufficient should I have a problem updating iPhoto?

  • Hdmi compatibility with yosemite

Is it possible that the yosemite update would not allow an hdmi adapter to work on my macbook pro (2012)? Because when we use the adapter on my boyfriends macbook it would work and his laptop wasn't updated with yosemite.

My CS5, everything the suite works on Yosemite, the latest Java Runtime will be required, that's a simple free upgrade.
However, for me personally it is running EXTREMELY sluggish! PS is ok at first, but after 15, 20 minutes simple things like selection tool, switching to another layer, clone brush.
Then erasing..I'll erase something...I get the rainbow spinning wheel for 5, 10 seconds then It shows what I erased, then CTRL+Z to undo and then redo. It lags. not fun!
Not sure..I've read forums where people are ok with Adobe programs, others state the same issues like I am having, Sucks the RAM dry and I have 12GB of it  Tweaked the cache and scratch disc settings and no improvements.
Depends on how old the Mac is, mine is a mid 2011 iMac 27in. It ran so amazing in SnowLeopard, Lion. Mavericks, I noticed a slight lag but nothing horrific that annoyed me to no end.
    Now. eh.

  • FC343LL/A compatibility with Yosemite

Just got a used Time Capsule (2009) version Model, FC343LL/A.
    Will this work with Yosemite?

Yes, if the previous owner updated the firmware on the Time Capsule.  If not, you will see a message about needing to update the firmware on the Time Capsule.
If that occurs, you will need to have.....or borrow a Mac running an older operating system like Leopard or Snow Leopard to update the firmware on the Time Capsule. A PC with AirPort Utility installed would work as well.
Then, the Time Capsule will have the best chance to work with Yosemite, although you still may need to change some settings on the Mac if AirPort Utility cannot find the Time Capsule.

  • Printer Compatability with Yosemite

I have an HP Photosmart C8180 All-In-One printer. Will I have ay problem updating to Yosemite

    Hello Highcountryhike,
Thank you for posting your request.  You should have no issues updating to 10.10 Yosemite.  Below are a couple links that should help.
If you run the Software Updates from the Apple Menu, to check for updates.  Some have had issues not seeing updates, so simply click on "Store" from the top menu, and then click on Reload Page".  Select to install HP Updates to ensure you have the latest drivers.
In some instances, the printer can be updated in the printer queue to resolve other issues, so check to make sure that the printer is listed with the HP Printer Series driver and not just AirPrint.  System Prefernces/Printers & Scanners/ select your printer on the left and check on the right side under "Location:" that Kind: is the printer series.  You can also click the "-" symbol to remove and then re-add the printer queue again, choosing the HP Printer series name to install the drivers.

  • App Compatibility With Yosemite OS Update

According to roaring apps there are 4 apps of mine that Yosemite will not support. The apps are Aimersoft media converter, Fidelia, Quicken 2007 (I suppose I could pay the $75.00 for the 2015 update which is compatible), Stuffit Destinations and VueScan (again, I could spend $200 - $300 and replace my old Epson scanner). Am I wrong on this? If I'm not is anyone else hesitant to upgrade because of this issue?

Are you sure about Vuescan? That application gets updated regularly. Did the developer drop support for your scanner in recent versions?
You don't have to do anything for a while if Mavericks is working OK for you. And you don't have to do a scorched earth upgrade that wipes out your Mavericks drive. Before you do anything, make sure you have a backup copy of the Mavericks installer. If you didn't save it or put it onto a flash drive, you should download it again and store it in a safe location. If you want to make a flash drive installer (you should do the same with the Yosemite installer):
    http://diskmakerx.com
You can install Yosemite on a separate drive and evaluate it. You can keep Mavericks going for the apps you can't or don't want to upgrade. I don't use Quicken, but have seen some discussion of it lately at Macintouch, and most users seem to feel that the 2007 version is preferable.

  • Adobe CS3 Compatibility with Yosemite

I own Adobe's CS3. I run it on a 27 inch 2010 Intel IMac with OS 10.6.8. I want to upgrade to Yosemite, but I need to know that Adobe CS3 will run on Yosemite. I have been unable to get a direct answer from Adobe.

I am also running the Adobe CS3 suite & I just upgraded to Yosemite yesterday (Dec. 26, 2014) from Snow Leopard 10.6.8. So I really went for it with this upgrade, of course, taking all the necessary preparations like backups & researching potential problems.
After the upgrade I clicked to run Photoshop & was prompted for the upgrade to Java link just like Eau Rouge indicated. I downloaded it & have been able to run the CS3 programs (Dreamweaver, InDesign, Illustrator & yes even Flash) with no problems thus far.
I am really going to put Photoshop through its paces today & if any issues arise, I will repost back in this forum. But so far all is good. Hope this information helps!

  • CS3 compatibility with Yosemite

Hi, I have an inherited version of CS3 on my PPC(!) iMac G5 and am planing to purchase a new intel iMac with Mavericks installed and I might upgrade to Yosemite.
The question is, will I be able to migrate my software to the new mac and will it work! Has anyone had this experience?
    Thank you.

It is working on my intel iMac with Mavericks, (at least Illustrator, Dreamweaver and InDesign are, I have not checked CS3 Photoshop because I have the CS5 version of that) but I had installed and updated all the apps back when I had older OS versions (Leopard, Snow Leopard, etc.) and when I tried to do a fresh install recently, I was able to install them but not apply the updates from Adobe. The Adobe updater will just claim that it could not make an internet connection (even though you are connected to the internet) and won't update them. If you just drag the most up-to-date versions over (or migrate them with the migration tool when you set up the new iMac) they should work and be as up-to-date as 2007 apps can be, even if that is not the ideal way to install them as opposed to a clean install.

  • Adobe cs5 suite compatibility with Yosemite

Has anyone tested Yosemite with the adobe cs5 suite

    Photoshop CS5 Extended
    Illustrator CS5

etc....?

    Thank you
    I have CS%
I have been using the Adobe products almost daily since the early 90's
You would not beleive how much money I have paid them over the years to keep my Adobe sutes update.
I will not give them any more money as I am ver happy with CS5 and their cloud software is not to be trusted.how it is for me
I am going to retire before I will give them another thin dime.....haaa
    Thank you for your advice.
I am guessing that the actual CS%/ CS^ engine was not all that different so I am hoping I am good to go.t
What surprises me is that there is not more information on the SE's regarding Yosemite software compatibility

  • MacbookAir Mid-2009 Compatibility with Yosemite?

Ever since I upgraded this machine to 10.10.2 is has been unusably slow.  Activity Monitor shows that the kernel task can sometimes eat up over 80% of the CPU.  This was certainly never the case with 10.9.
I can't see to find anything specifically wrong with my system right now and all my software is essentially up to date.
So I'm thinking of going back to 10.9 but I don't know how to do it on this machine.  Would it simply be a matter of downloading Mavericks from the iTune Store?
Thanks in advance for the help.

It is compatible. Downgrading will require erasing the drive and restoring your old system from your backup. Or downloading a previous OS X installer. Mavericks is no longer available for download.
Try these in order testing your system after each to see if it's back to normal:
    1. a. Resetting your Mac's PRAM and NVRAM
        b. Intel-based Macs: Resetting the System Management Controller (SMC)
    2. Restart the computer in Safe Mode, then restart again, normally. If this doesn't help, then:
Boot to the Recovery HD: Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the COMMAND and R keys until the Utilities menu screen appears. Alternatively, restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the OPTION key until the boot manager screen appears. Select the Recovery HD and click on the downward pointing arrow button.
    3. Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions: Upon startup select Disk Utility from the Utilities menu. Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions as follows.
When the recovery menu appears select Disk Utility. After DU loads select your hard drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and drive size) from the the left side list.  In the DU status area you will see an entry for the S.M.A.R.T. status of the hard drive.  If it does not say "Verified" then the hard drive is failing or failed. (SMART status is not reported on external Firewire or USB drives.) If the drive is "Verified" then select your OS X volume from the list on the left (sub-entry below the drive entry,) click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If DU reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported click on the Repair Permissions button. Wait until the operation completes, then quit DU and return to the main menu. Select Restart from the Apple menu.
    4. Reinstall Yosemite: Reboot from the Recovery HD. Select Reinstall OS X from the Utilities menu, and click on the Continue button.
Note: You will need an active Internet connection. I suggest using Ethernet if possible
because it is three times faster than wireless.
    5. Reinstall Yosemite from Scratch:
Be sure you backup your files to an external drive or second internal drive because the following procedure will remove everything from the hard drive.
How to Clean Install OS X Yosemite
Note: You will need an active Internet connection. I suggest using Ethernet if possible

  • Lightroom3 compatibility with yosemite?

    Does lightroom3 run on yosemite?

If you have the License Key for your Lightroom 3 you can download the latest version from the link below and activate with the key and see how it operates.
Adobe - Lightroom : For Macintosh : Adobe Photoshop Lightroom 3.6
Photoshop CS4 is a different issue and the License Key is specific to the operating system Mac or Win. You will first have to deactivate from the old system before you can install on the new computer.
The other option would be to have a look at the Creative Cloud Photographers plan available for a monthly subscription Photoshop CC 2014 with Lightroom included with the package.
