Is iMovie 11 compatible with Sony DCR HC90?

I've got ImageMixer loaded on the machine, and I'm using the firewire cable, but iMovie just won't recognize that there is a camera connected.

I have a Sony Handycam DCR-HC52 with a Firewire cable attached to a MBP and I am glad that AppleMan 1958 is on the case, so to speak, because I am experiencing the same symptoms.  iMovie '11 is not recognizing the camera as an import source.  Unless the Apple Support community can solve this one, my next possible way to transfer the content will be to play the Mini-DV source through a LCD TV and record the video and ambient audio with my Nikon CoolPix digital camera.  I have already established that I can transfer video files captured with my CoolPix to iMovie (by dragging and dropping them from the iPhoto Event Library).  Despite the obvious reduction in image and sound quality, it could work.

I cannot find it on this list:

That does not mean it will not work, but if you haven't purchased the camcorder yet then I recommend limiting your search to those known to be compatible. Better yet, limit your search to manufacturers that specifically indicate iMovie compatibility.
Panasonic does; I am not certain about Canon.

  • Is iMovie compatible with HDV footage?

    Hello guys,
is iMovie compatible with HDV video?
Log and Capture via FireWire, exporting as Quick Time..etc? Or do I need at least Final Cut Express

    Thank you so much

Imovie is very compatible with HDV. As long as you have firewire port, you are golden. FYI--log and transfer is Final cut express way of handle AVCHD files.

  • Is firefox compatible with Sony PS3?

I have a playstation 3 Alot of websites are telling me to upgrade my browser ,is firefox compatible with Sony PS3

It is not installed on PS3 but comes with it's firmware.
The only way to get Firefox on PS3 was to install a compatible Linux distro and then use Firefox that way. However Sony removed this option in the [http://blog.us.playstation.com/2010/03/28/ps3-firmware-v3-21-update/ PS3 Firmware (v3.21) Update] when they disabled the “Install Other OS” feature which annoyed a lot of people whether they even used this feature or not.

The link above is to the PDF users manual for the DCR-HC90
camcorder. It is MiniDV, and it says the best way to transfer
video and/or pictures is via the USB. I do not have the camera yet, but would'nt it be "better" to use firewire to transfer that amount of video or data? If so, is it possible to have a calbe that is firewire for this camera rather than usb? I am going to get this camera soon for a baby shower present so that we can make videos of our soon to be baby, and make some movies with iMovie. I guess I just have an itchy trigger finger to actually use the Firewire port. Any help that can be provided would be great. Thank you.
    Zach

    Zach,
The only way you will get the camera to work with iMovie is with FireWire. Sony refers to it as iLink. Check out page 60 of the manual.
You'll need to buy your self a 4 to 6 pin FireWire cable for a few bucks since the camera doesn't come with one.
The camera is a great choice to use with iMovie.

  • Sharing with Sony DCR-PC9E -PAL

    HI,
I've just tried to share from imovie HD to my Sony DCR-PC9E-Pal and it says that my Firewire cable is not connected. It is, and have had no problem with my old iMovie. I have updated the software and still a have this problem. It does show that it is reading the device but cannot export to camera.
Any suggestions or direct me to archives if that might assist.
    Best
    Tony

no, that doesn't matter - I'm using iMHD5 + an old Sony TRV14 - works like a charm...- but no export , it's an European model.... (without "E" in its type)
be sure, you have all updates installed…
    try this:
IMovie can no longer export to camera after installing Final Cut
    http://www.info.apple.com/kbnum/n93804
or, quit iM, launch Garageband, play a few notes, quit GB, launch iM agian (that very strange procedure is known here as "Garageband Crazy Fix" )
    and, finally, something about Sonys:

  • Looking for help getting imovie to recognize sony DCR-SR47 camcorder

Has anyone been able to up load to imovie from sony DCR-SR47 camcorder?

It depends on which camcorder you have.
If it records onto miniDV tape (..or "microMV" tape..) then you definitely need to use FireWire; nothing else will do. Buy one at any electronics store; it's called a FireWire or DV or i.Link cable. It must have a teeny 4-pin connector at one end (..to plug into the camera..) and a larger 6-pin connector at the other end (..to plug into your Mac..)
..unless you have a new MacBook Pro, which needs a slightly different shaped 9-pin FireWire 800 connector instead of the 6-pin connector.
You cannot use a USB connection for tape-based camcorders, even if they have a USB socket ..as that's just for transferring stills, not video.
If your camcorder does NOT shoot onto tape, then you'll need to transfer via USB. That applies for all chip-based and hard-drive based camcorders, and - I think - DVD-based camcorders.
All current AVCHD camcorders use USB.
If in doubt (..but there should be no doubt..) read the camcorder's instruction book. If you can't find the instructions, download them from the manufacturer's website ..almost all instructions are available online.
But if it needs FireWire - if it's a tape-based camcorder - you CANNOT use USB.

  • IPhone no longer compatible with Sony ICF-C1iP Dock/Speakers

I'm a litte annoyed today. I purchased the Sony ICF-C1iP so I could use it with my first generation iPhone without the static I was getting with the iHome. However, after updating to the newest update yesterday, (August 5), the Sony ICF-C1iP no longer works - well, it still works, but it is now just a clock radio. I can't get music to play through the speakers at all. I called the Apple store and after checking into it, I was told that the problem is with the new update and not the unit, and it is an issue that cannot be helped. Another "however"...the Sony ICF-C1iP is still on display in the Apple store as being compatible with the iPhone. Anyone else encountered this problem and if so, any solutions?

I just bought the Sony ICF-C1iP for my 1st gen iPhone yesterday to use at work. I iPhone is updated with 2.0 and after having read some of the most recent posts on the discussion boards, I think I'll wait on the most recent update. I can use the iPhone with the clock radio, but it doesn't recharge the battery, as matter of fact it drains the battery. I contacted Sony today and they said it was the ICF-C1iP.

  • Mac Mini Compatible with Sony SDM-HX93/B 19" Monitor?

    Hello,
I am researching the Mac Mini and am curious if it is compatible with the
Sony SDM-HX93/B 19" monitor. Any help is greatly appreciated.
    Thanks!

    Hello!
The Mac mini is compatible with any monitor with a DVI or VGA input.
The mini comes packed with a Mini-DVI to DVI adapter. You can also get a Mini-DVI to VGA adapter, I'm pretty sure.

  • Final cut express 4 with Sony DCR VX2000E

When I connect my camcorder Sony DCR VX2000E through the firewire 400 socket I get the message it is not connected or switched on. I can't capture any video.
    Who can help ?

Nobody with the amount of information you've provided. What OS, what version of QT, what drives are you using, how are they and the camera connected, what settings are on the media, what settings are you using in FCE, and does the system profiler see the camera?

  • Anyone have an iMovie made with Sony N1 footage?

    Hi,
I'm considering the Sony N1 and want to know how good the movie mode is on that camera.
Have any of you made or seen an iMovie made with N1 clips?
    Thanks!

    Hi Sue,
Thank you for taking the time to post your reply. I'll check out Streamclip.
I definitely know a digicam isn't ideal, but lugging one device around is way easier and worth the hit in quality.
I thought I'd mention that I've been dragging and importing clips from my Canon A85 and SE K700i into iMovie 6 with no issues whatsoever. Sound and video are both fine.
Oddly, that's not the same with my Sony DSC P200. Those clips only play video, but no sound.
    I'm stumped.

  • FCE compatability with SONY DCR-HC28

Hi - I recently bought a SONY DCR-HC28 to download a lot of footage into a project, but
Final Cut Express doesn't recognise it. Has anyone got these 2 working together ? Any tips ?
    Thank you
    James

No - I've used Final Cut a lot before, without this problem.
I bought FCE recently, and this is my 1st experience with it -
without managing to connect any camera to it.
I'm hooking a firewire cable to the computer, making sure the computer is restarted, switching the camera mode to play/edit, going through the
'easy setup' sequence: NTSC Firewire Basic (as well as the other NTSC
permutations), then capture - no good, then view - refresh A/V devices....
    still nothing...........
will try the 2 suggestions you made. Thanks a lot.

  • Is Nano 4g compatible with Sony XA110IP

I want to use my Nano with my Sony Explode which is compatible with the XA110IP ipod adaptor but although I have read it supports the 3rd gen nano I can't get confirmation on whether it will support my 4th gen.All advice appreciated.

So I talked to a gal at Sony. She said that the XA110IP and newer XA120IP are not guaranteed to work, however there is a possibility that they could work. The XA-120IP is what I specifically asked about, since it's newer. She said that only the 1st and 2nd gen Nano's are guaranteed to work with the adapter. Currently, no Sony device is guaranteed to work with any Nano more than 3rd Generation. The head unit I have does work with the 3rd gen, with its built-in iPod cable. One other nifty piece of advice: Sony has been flooded with calls regarding compatibility with the 4th Gen Nano. Therefore, they are currently working on a 4G Nano-compatible guaranteed solution. However, there is no release date set.
