Is iMovie 6 compatible with 10.4.11?

I have imovie 08 and want to downgrade to imovie 6 in order to use the plug ins and other features that 8 does not have for some reason. is it (imovie 6) compatible with 10.4.11? The lowest i can downgrade my Tiger to is 10.4.10, that is the version that came with my computer and what is on my reinstall disk.

Hello,
Yes you can use iMovie 06 in 10.4.11:

  • Is iMovie '06 compatible with 10.6.8 ?

Is iMovie '06 compatible with OS X 10.6.8?
If so, is there any trick or problem to installing it on the same machine w/ iMovie '08?
    Thanks,
    Wm

    Yes!!
    iMovie 06 works great with 10.6.8   I use both iMovie 06 and iMovie 11 (iMovie 06 about 80%, iMovie 11 about 20%).
Delete iLife 8. Now install iMovie 6 from the iLife install disks.
Now re-install iLife 8. This automatically moves iMovie 6 into a folder it creates in your Applications folder called iMovie Previous Version.
Now you have them both, and you can have both in the Dock as well.
Alternatively you could try this method, suggested by poster Uitech:
Open a terminal and type "touch /Library/Preferences/com.apple.iLife08.plist"
    (No quotes)
Install iMovieHD6.dmg (Formerly available from Apple)
This is said to work with both Leopard and Snow Leopard Macs.

  • Is the latest iMove still compatible with iDVD?

I still enjoy using iDVD v7.1.2 from iLife '11. Is it compatible with the latest iMovie program? I am afraid to to install the latest version of iMovie because I fear iDVD may longer be supported.

You can still use it but cannot share directly to iDVD.  You have to first share to file using 480p resolution then use this in iDVD.

  • Is iMovie '06 compatible with Snow Leopard?

I've read too many posts indicating difficulties with an upgrade to Snow Leopard but probably just as many from people who have had success. I'm always slow to update operating systems however it seems like more and more applications require Leopard (or SL) to run. I'm still on Tiger, love it, but am forced to upgrade in order to run current apps. My biggest concern is for iMovie 6.03 which I will never give up for the lame versions of imovie that succeeded it. So my question is, is iMovie 6.03HD compatible with Snow Leopard or would I be better served just to go to Leopard in order to run these newer apps?

I see you have not yet marked your topic "Answered", so perhaps you are hoping for other input.

It works fine on both my Snow Leopard (SL) Macs.

As concerned as you are, and as important as iMovie6 seems to be to you, unless you must use some of the new apps or OS features that require upgrading, you might be better served by continuing to use your existing and proven reliable Tiger OS.
Your next Mac will come with the OS that maximizes its performance. Until then, you save at least $169(US), and keeping the Tiger OS that you KNOW works eliminates all of you worries.

  • Is iMovie 08 compatible with AVI files?

I just got a Nikon D300s with the built in video and when I import the video from Finder to iMovie I don't get anything in the preview window. Am I doing something wrong or is this format not supported?
I just upgraded to QuickTime Pro so I can save the AVI files as QuickTime files. Do you think that will solve the problem?

AVI is a container, not a codec. It is an ancient unsupported format, but there is a lot still out there.
Similarly, MOV is a container, not a codec.
You need to figure out what audio and video codecs are included in the AVI container, and then if they are compatible with iMovie, putting them in an MOV container would probably be sufficient. If they are not compatible, you will need to convert them.
If you AVI files will open in QT Pro or QT Player, click WINDOW/INSPECTOR and see what is listed next to FORMAT:. These would be the codecs.
In general, iMovie can import DV, Apple Intermediate Codec, Apple Animation Codec, h.264, MPEG4, HDV, and several others. AVCHD is converted to Apple Intermediate Codec on import.
MPEG2, for example, must be converted to one of the supported codecs before import, like Apple INtermediate Codec.

  • Imovie 5 compatible with iMovie 4 ?

I lost iMovie 4 in the process of stupidly erasing my hard drive.
Someone has given me a copy of iLife 5. Could someone pls tell me if iMovie 5 is compatible with iMovie 4 ? This iLife 5 does not include iDVD. The disk given to me is for systems without a Hard Drive.
    Thanks
    jc

    Thank you for feedback.
I never bought iLife 04, it came installed in my OSX 10.3.0. However and unknow to me, iLife 04 must have been installed by the Apple retailer where I bought my computer from. My computer was delivered to me with the software fully installed; all I had to do was "switch-on" !
    When I re-installed OSX with the Install / restore supplied disks (3), I find that I have iiMovie 3 / iPhoto 2 / iDVD 3.
iPhoto 2 does not want to open pictures I burnt onto a DVD disc using iPhoto 4; hence my research for an iLife 04 install disc which I can buy from eBay, but in meantime, an Apple engineer gave me a copy of install iLife 05 which he has in duplicate and can therefore spare one . He never spoke to me about such software not being able to be installed.
    Regards.

  • IMovieS not compatible with iPad 2

I've purchased this app, however when trying to install the latest update it says it's incompatible with this iPad. I've deleted the app but can't reinstall. Any ideas??

You will need to update to iOS 5.
I had the same issue with the latest iMovie update on my iPhone. They really should provide this information in the app update info page, or maybe in the error alert. Or maybe both.

  • IMovie not compatible with 10.5.7?

"You cannot use this version of the application iMovie with this version of Mac OS X"

  • Is iMovie 11 compatible with Sony DCR HC90?

I've got ImageMixer loaded on the machine, and I'm using the firewire cable, but iMovie just won't recognize that there is a camera connected.

I have a Sony Handycam DCR-HC52 with a Firewire cable attached to a MBP and I am glad that AppleMan 1958 is on the case, so to speak, because I am experiencing the same symptoms.  iMovie '11 is not recognizing the camera as an import source.  Unless the Apple Support community can solve this one, my next possible way to transfer the content will be to play the Mini-DV source through a LCD TV and record the video and ambient audio with my Nikon CoolPix digital camera.  I have already established that I can transfer video files captured with my CoolPix to iMovie (by dragging and dropping them from the iPhoto Event Library).  Despite the obvious reduction in image and sound quality, it could work.

  • Is iMovie 6 compatible with Snow Leopard?

I am using OS 10.5.8, and IMovie 6.  If I upgrade to 10. 6 will it mess up compatibility with the movie program? And will the 3rd party plug ins still work?

I can't speak for the plug-ins - only their vendors can answer that, but iMovie 6HD works in Snow Leopard.
It will run alongside later versions without problems, but I've never tried opening 6HD projects in 8. (6HD is far better than later versions in my opinion).

  • Is "slick" series of software for iMovie 06 compatible with leopard

I'm running Leopard 10.5.2 on a Mac Pro 1,1 but still using iLife 06. Can I use the iMovie 06 special effects software put out by Gee Three called "Slick" starter kit, filmmaker kit, and transition kit (three dvd's) with Leopard? I just resolved several hard drive and Leopard issues and don't want to install a potential troublemaker.

sorry for posting dumb questions folks. i actually went to the slick web site and got all the data i needed. again, sorry for cluttering the forum. i'm a true dummy.

  • IMovie not compatible with Canon HV20?

Can't get my iMac to recognize my HV20. Anybody else have one and able to explain if I'm missing something? Got a firewire cable, plugged it into the HDV/DV port on the camera, turned it to "play" and I'm getting nothing. On the camera, no matter if I set the output to DV or HDV/DV, the mac doesn't see it.
Canon's website says I shouldn't need anything for OS X support.
About to head upstairs to my windows box to see if it'll see it.
Any suggestions? I'd much rather use the mac for vid capture than my windows computer.

... it certainly makes me wonder about your compute setup. Do you have any other Firewire devices connected to your computer when you are trying to make the video transfer? I know some earlier Canon DV camcorders wanted to be the only Firewire device on the bus during transfer.

  • Are movies which are made in iMovie fully compatible with Adobe Premier?

My brohter is working on a school project. He is currently using iMovie at home and he's using Adobe Premier at school. I was wondering if a movie that's made in iMovie could be transferred and edited further in Adobe premier or if there is a way to make it possible.

    Hi
To be able to take up editing from a previously made project in one video-editor in another one is not known by me anywhere any brand of Video-Editor
You can in iMovie or FinalCut
    • Export over raw un-edited material as XML-files
    • Export a QuickTime full quality edited version of the movie with all transitions, texts and audio embedded - not to be edited further
So general practice is to have an as exactly same environment on all workstations that are involved: Same OS version, Same QuickTime version (heart in all video editing in Apple Mac) and Same Video-editor down to version no:
What he can do is make a version in iMovie - Exported out as full quality QuickTime to be used as a template on track 1 in the other Video-Editor then re-do the full program ontop of this and lastly turn this template OFF and keep this new project.

  • Since when is iMovie not compatible with MacBook Pro 13-inch?

went to upload some Christmas Eve videos into iMovie and get an error messages stating the iMovie does not support my computer...which it sure allowed me to purchase, use and update as recently as September!
Since when did Apple start deciding to not make the very software they promote as idea for users, then go and make them not work on a system that is not even 1.5 years old?!!! Steve Jobs would not have agreed to something so stupid! Apple, fix the problem or you are moving more and more closer to Microsoft than I thought.
THIS IS PURE ******** AND I INTEND TO POST THIS ON EVERY MAC FORUM

Here is the message I am getting:
OK, I can edit HD video on my iPhone, but the hardware on my MacBook Pro can't handle it? Really?!! Come on Apple, I am not that stupid...and if this is the direction you were going, when are you going to finally produce a legitimate MacBook Pro 13-inch with video memory?
All of those poor college kids and other people who purchased a computer that doesn't even support a simple, feature poor video editing program, but...I can run all kinds of other labor intensive program all day long...including 3rd party HD video editing software.
