Is InCopy CS6 compatible with InDesign CS5.5?

Hello,
We recently upgraded our production team to CS Design Standard 5.5, however, we now need a handful of copies of InCopy for our editors...
Just wanted to make sure that InCopy CS6 and InDesign CS5.5 were playing nice with each other before making the purchase.
Thanks in advance.

I would test it very thoroughly by downloading the trial versions. I would imagine text flow will be a bit different and packaging certainly won’t work.
BTW, what does recently mean? Any purchase of 5.5 after March 26 would entitle you to a free upgrade to CS6.

  • Will InCopy CS6 work with InDesign CS5.5?

Hi folks - I need to use InDesign CS5.5 due to a customer's requirement. I need to use InCopy to delegate copy editing. Looks like the lowest version of InCopy I can get is InCopy CS6. Will InCopy CS6 play nice with InDesign CS5.5?
    Thanks in advance.

    bahhh
Cheers for your reply though. Is there any way of getting InCopy CS5.5 these days?

  • InCopy CS4 ok with InDesign CS5.5?

I work at a small newspaper using all Macs and CS4. The writers use InCopy as their word processor, and the designer links their IC files in her ID document. Sometimes an IC linked file will require further editing in IC, but they never use IC to open an ID document.
We want to upgrade the designer and copy editors (who all use InDesign) to CS5.5. I'm wondering if we can squeeze another year out of the writers' PPC Macs, which will not run IC CS5.5, by having them stay on IC CS4. Having to upgrade 15 Macs will be pricy.
I've seen several questions here about using InCopy CS5.5 with older versions of InDesign, but not the other way around. Can InCopy CS4 be used with InDesign CS5.5 in the workflow I have described?
Related question: if InCopy CS5.5 opens an InCopy CS4 doocument, does that change the document so that it can't be opened in InCopy CS4 again? (in case we upgrade the writers incrementally).

Just bite the bullet and upgrade everyone. Sometimes the cost for doing something is way less than it is for not doing something.

Yes,  I'm running CS6 on 8.1, and I'm sure CS5 works as well.

Is Dreamweaver CS6 compatible with CS5.5?

HTML is HTML, CSS is CSS.  The code will be fine.  If you are using features specific to that verison, the GUI elements will obviously not be visible, but you can still edit in code view.  An example of this is the Fluid Grid Layouts in CS6 that are not present in CS5.5.  The code will be editable and you will be able to see the changes, but the Grid background won't be there visually.

We have no problems here: InDesign CC and InCopy CS6: works fine, assignments, packages all is exhancing perefctly. The same for InCopy CC and InDesign CS6. The assigments are still .icma. Have no use for QR-codes however so no idea if this will cause problems but I can not see why it would..

which versions of Illiustrator are compatible with InDesign CS 5.5?

Thank you for your reply Peter.  I have InDesign CS 5.5 and need to use Illustrator with it to update the data in graphs.  I know CS5.1 works, and am wondering if earlier versions (back to CS or Illustrator 10) would work as well to edit and re-save my graphs for use in the InDesign document.  Ultimately I need to incorporate the updated graphs in my document using InDesign 5.5, so that’s the compatibility I want to understand.

Is CS6 compatible with Win8 Pro?

Microsoft does seem to care about backward compatibility so I wouldn’t be too concerned about CS6.
I would think anything that runs on Win 7 should be fine on Win 8. That said, I wouldn’t push my luck with anything older than CS5 but it wouldn’t surprise me to see CS3 and later working okay.

  • Create unlimited folios today with InDesign CS5 and 5.5!

    Adobe's official statement
    http://blogs.adobe.com/digitalpublishing/2011/10/create-unlimited-folios-today-with-indesi gn-cs5-5.html
    Did you know…
Customers with InDesign CS5 and CS5.5 can now create an unlimited number of .folio files for no additional charge.
You already know that InDesign CS5 and CS5.5 integrate with Adobe Digital Publishing Suite to allow customers to publish apps to tablet devices such as the iPad, Xoom and PlayBook. But for InDesign CS5 and CS5.5 customers who are interested in creating content for tablet devices but are not yet customers, it is now easier than ever to try digital publishing before making the financial investment in the Digital Publishing Suite solution that meets your needs.
InDesign CS5 and CS5.5 customers can now:
Create an unlimited number of .folio files in InDesign
Preview them on Adobe Content Viewer  – including interactivity – to see how they will render when published to a tablet device
Share them with colleagues or clients on a 1:1 basis via the Adobe Content Viewer
Further, customers can now access the Folio Producer Service in the Digital Publishing Suite with a valid Adobe ID to manage and edit their .folio files. All of this can be done before purchasing Digital Publishing Suite.
If you are interested in learning how to create an App directly from InDesign CS5 or CS5.5, without writing code or depending on a developer, feel free to try it. You can pitch ideas to your client or your boss; or you can build a portfolio of your work and preview it on a tablet device. Practice makes perfect, and with an unlimited number of .folios, you can practice as much as you want! When you’re ready to publish to an app store, you can select the Digital Publishing Suite solution that is right for you.

I'm sorry EvBurk, what you want is intended not to work.
All Adobe's promotional material concerning InDesign and Digital Publishing (including the above "official statement") carefully uses verbs like "create" or "produce". But they never mention "distribute" or "spread", without explicitly referring to their exclusive hosting services. The whole Folio thing (in contrast to the former "issue" format) revolves around not giving you any chance of physically exporting, managing or owing the folio file itself. It's always somewhere on Adobe's or Apple's servers, or on your iPad, which is also as shut as a vault. So there's no way to export a folio file and toss it around like a pdf or jpeg. All you can do (without a paid distribution) is "share" your folio with some others, under the idea of "testing" and "reviewing". But this can be a cumbersome method. And even when paid (for the app), it's still difficult to distribute it outside Apple's or Android's market.
More than a year ago (in the middle of the Flash-on-iOS debate) Adobe users, developers, bloggers, and evangelists heavily criticized Apple's "walled garden". Adobe literally stated "We Love Apple - What we don't love is anybody taking away your freedom to choose what you create, how you create it, and what you experience on the web." Well, you could say now: "I love Adobe, but what I don't love is Adobe taking away my freedom to own my files, and distribute them on my own terms." They let us create, but not spread our ideas. It's like giving you a typewriter and copier, that only works with Adobe stock paper. Like giving you a voice and an instrument, but only allowing you to sing and play in some walled gardens (dress code: Apple ID) or secluded shed (invitation only).
I really wonder why they so fiercely protect 'their' Folio file. Why do they either have to be "under protection" or be turned into apps? I understand why Apple wants and needs to curate apps, but they don't mind me spreading my own ePubs, mp3 or jpegs. Why doesn't Adobe let me put my folio's on my own server, or send them off to someone with my own preferred service? The Content Viewer could easily be an Acrobat-like reader and let the iPad open folio's (by web links or mail enclosures) into it. If I see how many questions, worries, and problems creators and users have due to this whole closed technique and business, it would be easier to just let go and see what happens. Is it money? Of course it is. But my guess is that Adobe would eventually benefit more from it.
So I hope Adobe declares the Folio as an "open" standard soon, but they're definitely not in that stage. Maybe the specification of the file format just isn't ready yet. Maybe some managers need to remember again how to "Spread the Love"...

  • Possible to create medium res .pdf file with InDesign CS5?

    Hello,
Can anyone tell me if there is a way to create a medium res .pdf file with InDesign CS5?
I'm working with a client and have been sending him both high res and low res files of a catalog project. High res .pdf is 12.8MB and low res is 1.2MB. He is asking whether I can create something in between the two, say somewhere around 6 to 8 MB.
Any insight would be much appreciated.
    Many thanks,
    Tania

PDFs do not have a resolution. The graphics within do, however..
Look at the downsampling settings and experiment until you get what you want.

  • InCopy CS2 Copyfitting with InDesign CS3, Version Cue CS3

Hello. We are using InCopy CS2 together with InDesign CS3 as part of an Version Cue CS3 workflow.  Certain stories do not copyfit exactly in InCopy CS2. They copyfit properly in InDesign CS3, but when the assignment with these stories is opened in InCopy CS2, the copyfit is close, but not perfect. We never had this problem when we were using InDesign CS2.
Has anyone seen this problem; can anyone suggest a workaround?  (Incidentally, The copyfit looks just fine when we open the file in InCopy CS3;  but we are NOT using InCopy CS3, because it causes synchronization problems - it reports that files are open, when they are not. )
Thanks for your help - Chris

The text engines have changed from CS2 to CS3 and again with CS4.
There's no way to get an accurate copy fit using a different version of InCopy than InDesign.

  • Existing Actions and Plugins Compatible with Photoshop CS5?

I have actions and plug-in products, and while I've done everything I can to make them future-proof, I'm wondering if any Photoshop CS5 beta testers can speak to whether existing actions and plugins are generally compatible with Photoshop CS5?
    Specifically:
Are existing 32 bit Windows (PC) plugins proving to be compatible with Photoshop CS5?
Are existing 64 bit Windows (PC) plugins proving to be compatible with Photoshop CS5?
Are existing actions (both platforms) proving to be compatible with Photoshop CS5?
I'm anxiously awaiting the go-ahead to download my copy to verify everything, but I'm just trying to get a feel for whether I'll have work to do.  I'm hoping for the level of compatibility seen in CS3 and CS4 - all my software worked perfectly with no changes.
    Thanks.

I appreciate you all taking the time to answer, but none of you has actually said what DOES happen with your existing actions / plugins and CS5 beta.
I know that experience with one set of actions and plugins doesn't guarantee operation with another, but if, for example, someone actually stated, "all my old plugins failed to work with CS5" or "they all seemed to work okay" then I'd have a better idea of what to expect.
Please keep in mind I've been developing commercial actions since PS6 and plugins since CS2, and all my software works on all 32 bit versions and 64 bit CS4 on Vista x64 and Windows 7 x64, so I'm intimately familiar with what might happen and what should happen.  Plus I've programmed them to be quite resilient, and I don't expect any of the CS5 feature changes to break them.  What I don't know is whether Adobe has fundamentally altered the plugin interface this time around, or has deprecated any old filters, causing a plugin or action that used to work to fail now.  The word "rewrite" has been used to describe CS5, and that has me wondering.
In short, I'm really looking for actual experience with the CS5 beta here.
Wish I could get the CS5 SDK already.  I don't understdand why Adobe doesn't release that in advance.
    Thanks.

  • Is illustrator cs6 compatible with yosemite?

is illustrator cs6 compatible with yosemite?

Charu: Hello. Welcome to Adobe Technical Support.
    DAVID GROSSMAN: Hi Charu.
Charu: I can see that you are facing issues while launching Illustrator CS6 on your MAC Yosemite.
Charu: But I would like to inform you that CS^ version is not compatible with MAC OS X 10.10.1 version
Charu: Please check the below link.
    DAVID GROSSMAN: REALLY?!
    Charu: http://helpx.adobe.com/illustrator/system-requirements.html#Illustrator CS6 system requirements
    Charu: Yes, really.
DAVID GROSSMAN: So what are my options? The rest of the CS6 Suite works fine.
Charu: I would not suggest you to downgrade your OS, but you may upgrade to cloud version which is compatible with your MAC.
DAVID GROSSMAN: When will an update be available so that I can continue to use CS6 on the latest version of the Mac OS?
Charu: If you will check the system requirements for CC version in the above article, it says that it is compatible with MAC OS X 10.10
Charu: CS6 is a legacy software now and is no longer supported so there will not be any future update release for the same.
DAVID GROSSMAN: I don't want to upgrade to CC. The rest of the CS6 suite works great.
    DAVID GROSSMAN: REALLY?!
DAVID GROSSMAN: Apparently Adobe has forgotten what platform built their company.
Charu: Yes, also we have a limited support for CS6 only on our forums.
