Is initial sync glacially slow normal?

Moved up to a itouch 64GB from 80GB ipod classic.  The initial sync with iTunes library is painfully slow.  Almost deathly.  Is this normal?
I'm just syncing music.  No photo or video.  Any way to speed it up?

It's been syncing for 3+ hours and has moved 2100 songs out of 9600 or so.  At times it will zip thru 5 or 6 songs in less than 20 seconds, then spend 5 minutes for the next 5/6 songs.
Can I cancel the sync or suspend it without losing what's already been synced?.  Then do the rest overnite?
Thanx for your reply.

  • Over 7 hrs for initial sync - is this normal ?

    Gang,
I just bought a new iPod classic, after my original one was stolen, and it took just over 7 hrs for the initial sync of only 3300 songs. Is this normal? With my original one syncing was extremely fast. I assume it was because the old one used FW vs USB.

Just to give you an idea, I can sync over 12,300 songs to my Classic in around 90 mins via USB 2.0.

  • DFSR Errors and Initial Sync slows down Network

    Hello
I have a Windows 2012 Server (primary member-site A) where i created one Replication Group which replicates one folder with the amount of 104 GB of Data over WAN to another Windows 2012 Server (site B)
I added the Namespace-Server, created the Replication Group with 24 GB Staging quota and now it's waiting for the initial sync which slows down my network on the primary member site badly. Ping-timeouts, 6 times slower ping, i almost can not work remote.
It created the folder structure on site B, ~4GB.
If i stop the DFS-Replication service, network traffic is normal again. I also get a couple of errors in event viewer:
    DFSR ID 5012 error 9026
    DFSR ID 5014 error 9033
    Anybody got an idea? Thanks

    Hi,
Sorry for the delay in reply.
Robocopy is sometimes recommended to customers as well as Backup-Restore. For DFS initial replication, the important part is to get most files ready in the other side - it is fine to level some difference such as permission, newly updated files etc. These
difference will be updated soon with finishing initial replication.
Hope the issue was already fixed in these days!

  • Outlook 2010 will not sync with iCloud after initial sync

Hi guys, the basic summary is that after upgrading from a mobile me account to icloud (using a me.com account), I was able to sync everything from Outlook to the customer's iPhone but anything created after that would not sync. I tried creating a contact, calendar item, and other calendar items, none of which showed up either way (outlook to phone and vice versa).
Here are all the details that may be needed to assist with this question (and thank you!)
The account was upgraded from mobileme to iCloud, then outlook was upgraded from 2003 to 2010.
OS is Windows 7 64 bit
Outlook has 2 data files which hold all the contacts/calendars/tasks.
I had to add the me.com email to outlook so that it would perform the initial sync.
After the initial sync, all calendars, contacts, etc were moved to deleted items (which I think may be normal). I just moved them back to one of the pst files.
At this point, creating an item in any calendar, or creating a contact does not result in that contact/calendar entry showing up on the iphone (or vice versa).
Outlook does not show "icloud" calendar, only the calendars I previously created, but the iPhone says "All iCloud Calendars" and they list the calendars that we created in outlook.
Customer says it synced fine when he used mobile me back in the day, and then it stopped so we had to upgrade to iCloud. Any ideas? =/ I spent over an hour trying to figure this one out, even had some brief apple tech help.
Thank you SO much for your help. I'd LOVE to be able to get this fixed, otherwise I need to start looking into alternatives for syncing iphone with outlook 2010

  • Initial Sync and Mobile Home Creation

    Hello,
I have been using PHDs successfully in an OD environment for some time now, but currently am having an issue with the initial sync when a user logs onto a new workstation.
Some background: We are using PHDs as pseudo-network home folders due to limitations in Pro Tools and its inability to function while working off of a network based home. Not ideal, but it's where we are at if we want to allow users to move from room to room but without using network homes...
    Our environment:
    - AD / OD mixed environment (working beautifully at the moment)
    - Separate server acting as home folder host (we'll call it afphome)
    - Clients managed by OD via computer groups
The basic issue is that when a user logs onto a new workstation, the initial sync only creates a local home based on the standard template, despite the presence of a sync progress bar (stating "Checking..." only) during the initial log-in. If the user logs out immediately, a sync occurs, but may preferences are overwritten during this sync (namely finder). When the user logs back in, syncs occur normally, but those overwritten preferences are here to stay.
How can I force PHD to do a full "from server" sync when a new home is being created locally, assuming that a network home exists for the user already?
    Many thanks,
    Josh

Just found your post as I was having a similar problem. Our setup was with all Apple OD though.
I had exactly the same problem with new workstations having the user setup with the default template. We also had some odd problems syncing specific files we never had trouble with before. Our issue arrived last week when our main sharing and userhomes data drive died and we had to recover from a backup. Once we recovered, everything except for sync of portable home directories came back properly.
After doing some searching, I figured that I did not stand to lose anything if I shut off Server Admin > our server > Settings > General > Server side file tracking for Mobile Home Sync. Rebooted the server. Suddenly the clients with file troubles sync fine and creation of new users on a new workstation actually duplicates the network user.
I'm not sure about other implications of shutting off the server side tracking but now we sync correctly again.

  • Initial Sync duration

    Hi ,
We are trying to Sync tables with around 7 lakh records using Azure Sync. The table has around 25 columns.
Below is the log file info. It takes more than a hour to complete. Is the expected duration for the initial sync?
Sync completed successfully in 4705.56 seconds.  Upload:   751434 changes applied
    Thanks,

    Hi,
    Thank you for your post.
The prescribed best practice is to start with data in only one database. If you have data in multiple databases,
SQL Data Sync treats each row as a conflict that needs resolution. This causes the initial synchronization to go very slow.
Please have a check on the below link for Best Practices.

  • Mobile account won't complete setup, initial sync won't complete.

I'm trying to setup a mobile account but it won't complete the sync process on the client MacBook Pro. Both the server and the MacBook Pro are running 10.5.5.
When I login to client it prompts me to create a Mobile account and proceeds with the sync to create the account, but when the sync is complete it just logs in with the default account setup. None of the user files or settings (desktop image, preferences, etc) appear. The sync process says "Checking..." for all the files that supposedly get copied to the client, but it looks like it doesn't complete.
Is there a way of knowing what the problem is? Is there an issue with the user's home directory, some file that prevents the sync and mobile home creation from completing?
    Thanks.

Forgot about getting this problem solved.
The user account that had this trouble had a copy of his home directory from a laptop in his home directory. This backup had it's own Library folder which was confusing the Mobile account sync process.
When I removed the backup home directory, the initial sync went fine.

  • CCB-MDM Integration | Acknowledgement Message for Initial Sync Reqeust

    Hi All,
We are intergrating the CCB-MDM and loaded the contact information to MDM env, but there is no acknowledgement message fired from the MDM. And verified that the +ve, -ve Acknowledgement algorithms are not plugged in to "*D1-InitialSyncRequestContact*" BO lifecycle.
But these algorithms are plugged in to ongoing sync request BO's.
Is there any configuration/installation wrong/missing in the env?
    Regards,
    Guru

At my previous project we ran into the same 'issue'. The response from Oracle Support:
Because of the volumes involved during initial synchronization, and because the nature of initial synchronization is iterative and closely monitored, no acknowledgements are going to be sent back from MDM. Implementations may choose to delete the initial sync records after they have been produced, or introduce a standard Transition To Next Default State monitor on the Awaiting Acknowledgement state of the parent BO when initial sync requests are being produced. This way, the sync request transitions straight through to Synchronized without waiting for a response from MDM.

  • FIM Reporting initial sync running long time

We have installed FIM Reporting last month , afterwards our FIM reporting initial sync powershell script is running from last month to Sync FIM data with SCSM server , but still only half data is synced with SCSM server ,
    we have 4 server
    1. Server1 --FIM server
    2. Server2 -- FIM database
    2. Server3 -- SCSM service manager  and SQL server Databases for Service manager and Data warehouse
    4. Server4 -- Data warehouse server
As FIM initial sync script is taking long time to sync so we found some errors in Server 4 (Data warehouse server) multiple times during ETL jobs running.
    Error screen shot
Please give some suggestions to make FIM initial sync faster

Please try Resume-FIMReportingInitialSync instead of starting initial sync once again.
Sadly Initial Sync is very long and even on test environments it can take a long time.
But it seems that data from FIM was successfully moved to reporting database, but it hasn't been calculated by Service Manager correctly between its databases.

  • Is DFS Initial Sync actually getting anywhere?

    Hi,
The other day i had to recreate our DFS name space and replication.  One of the servers is running an initial sync and has been for around a week and a half.  How long is this supposed to take?  Its 2tb over a 10mbps leased line so not that
fast, but it still seems like a very long time.
Is there anyway to see how far its got?  if its actually progressing at least would take a load off my mind.
    Thanks for the help.

2TB over 10 Mbps?! That's insane! Use seeding for DFS to save time & money. See:
    DFS Seeding with Robocopy

    Good luck!

  • LR Mobile does not sync star rating on initial sync

    Dear All!
    This is my usual workflow.
    1) I import photos on my desktop (Macintosh)
    2) I make a pre-selection of photos and start them with 2 stars.
    3) I filter all 2-star photos and add them to a collection
    4) I sync the new collection to my ipad (via the cloud).
    Issue:
When the photos "arrive" on the ipad they all have a rating of 0-stars.
to fix this I have to change the rating in Lightroom on my desktop (after they have initially synced) to the iPad.
This will sync all photos again and correct the star-ratings.
Is this a known issue and is Adobe working on this already?
    Thanks
    Albert

Please have a look at this thread (also for workarounds)...Re: Why are my ratings stars not syncing with Lightroom mobile?
Here is the note from one of our devs.
Unfortunately, my previous post was a bit optimistic.  Adding images in batches less than 100 will only work in certain narrow situations.  In many of the common scenarios that you're encountering based on your catalogs it will not.
I have fixed this issue in our code, but will continue to look for possible workarounds that will work on 5.5.

  • After your initial sync...

I bought an iPad and followed the set up instructions, syncing it with my MacBook Pro in the process. It worked great; it appears that all my music and videos were successfully imported. But I have a few questions.
First, my understanding is that if I connect my iPad to my MacBook Pro again, it will automatically sync again, this time only importing any songs that I added to my iTunes library after the initial sync. Is that correct?
Can I somehow start the sync process over, adding images, for example, but NOT have to wait for it to sync my entire iTunes library again?
I connected my iPad to a netbook running Windows to see if I could copy files back and forth and was surprised when it started syncing. I aborted the process.
It looks like it was in the process of copying my music from my iPad to my netbook, which might not be so bad. Is it OK to sync between an iPad and a PC?
    Thank you.

You can sync to multiple computers and here is a support article that talks about it.
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1202.
You can pick and choose content that you want to put on your iPad and you can prevent the iPad from automatically syncing.
Launch iTunes on the Mac and in the Preferences - under iTunes at the top left hand side - select Devices and then check the box that says - Prevent iPods, iPhones and iPads from Syncing Automatically.
Also in iTunes - when the iPad is connected to your Mac - Select the box that says - Sync only checked songs and videos - which is in the Summary Tab - and you can select the songs, movies, TV Shows, etc, that you choose to put on the device when you sync.
As you continue to add content it will take a little longer to sync each time, but essentially it does not "start all over again" when you sync if you've added new content. The iPad will backup and then sync. It's part of the whole process.
IMO - you are better off syncing to one machine at least until you really get the hang of what you are doing. It just makes life easier for me anyway.
You can sync to a PC but having a MacBook Pro ... why on earth would you want to do that?

Is this is a new iPhone that had never been synced with iTunes on any computer - the first time this iPhone was connected to iTunes on this computer which has been used to sync with another iPhone or iOS device?
The first time a new iPhone is connected to iTunes on a computer that is used to sync with another iPhone or iOS device, you are prompted to transfer the backup for the other iPhone or iOS device, or set up the iPhone as a new iPhone.
If you choose the former, the Camera Roll on the new iPhone is replaced with the Camera Roll contents included with the backup for the other iPhone or iOS device.
Syncing with iTunes alone does not touch the iPhone's Camera Roll.

Hey, I'm new to owning a Mac! Last week I bought my first Mac in-store and had no problems with it, until today. Today I noticed that the fan is rather loud especially compared to people who have the same model (the base 13" non-retina). I must admit
