Is iOS 8 necessary for iCloud sharing?

I have an iPhone 4s, and have Family Sharing turned on. From my phone, I select photos on the camera roll and send them to my iCloud, but they never show up in iCloud. Is this because I do not have iOS 8?

  • Update iPod to iOS 8 for family sharing

I am trying to get my daughter's iPod touch on our family plan.  It says she is on version iOS 6.1.6.  Doesn't she need to be on iOS 8?  How do I get her there if under software update it says she is up to date?

That’s a fourth generation iPod touch. It can’t be updated to iOS 7 or above.

  • Will there be a way to merge iCloud accounts for family sharing in iOS 8?

My family of four has 5 Apple IDs. Each of us has a personal one that we use for mail, contacts, and calendars and we all share an Apple ID for use with the iTunes and App Stores. This way, we can all currently share content without having to buy it four times. However, Apple has solved this problem in iOS 8 with family sharing.
My question is how should I handle this with my current lineup of Apple IDs. I know there's currently no way to merge two Apple IDs into one, and I don't want to just transfer my credit card to my personal Apple ID, as I will lose my purchase history. I know I could add my current "shared" ID to our family account in iOS 8, but I'd like not to have a duplicate of myself. Any advice would be appreciated!

It's not necessary to merge the iCloud and iTunes Store accounts. The Family Organizer should use their own iCloud account when setting up Family Sharing. You'll also be asked to supply the iTunes Store account you want to use to share music, movies, apps, etc., with your family during the setup process. It appears Apple has already addressed this common problem.

  • After iOS 8 update, iCloud constantly asks for password

Hello, after I updated to iOS 8 on my iPhone 5 and iPad air I am constantly having the window pop up on both devices asking me to enter my password for iCloud. I've had to unlock the account twice now. Could this be due to activating family sharing with my wife? Or is someone trying to hack into my account and keeps messing up the password? Has anyone else experienced this sort of issue? Thanks!

Go to Settings>iCloud, tap Sign Out, choose Delete from My iDevice and provide your password when prompted (your data will still be in iCloud).  Then sign back in (your data will download back to your device).  See if that stops the prompts for your password.

  • Family Sharing won't work because I have two separate accounts for iCloud and iTunes

I have two Apple accounts, one that is connected to my iTunes Store purchases, and another for iCloud. I had to do this for reasons related to transitioning from the old MobileMe service to iCloud a few years ago.
So now with Family Sharing, if I use my iTunes account, I can't share calendars or other iCloud type information, and if I use my iCloud account I can't share my music and app purchases.
Is there anything I can do to remedy this? Can I combine everything into a single account somehow?

Under "Setting up Family Sharing" here: https://developer.apple.com/icloud/documentation/family-sharing/ it says:
"You can accept a Family Sharing invitation from any compatible iOS device or Mac where you are signed into iCloud. Or, if the organizer is nearby, they can simply ask you to enter your iCloud Apple ID and password during the setup process. To complete setup, you will also confirm the Apple ID you use for the iTunes, iBooks, and App Stores so you can share your purchases with family members."
This suggests that you can specify a different ID for the iTunes store if you aren't using your iCloud ID for purchasing.

  • Should ID for family sharing be iCloud or App store ID?

As i prepare to set up family sharing between my wife and i I find it seems to be more complex than I had expected. We each have an ID for iCloud, and for the iOS app store for a total of four ids. That system was forced on us by the way the system evolved.
The problem - if family sharing is iCloud based do I set it up using my iCloud ID or my App store ID? The apps are registered to the App store ID not the iCloud ID.  Similarly should it be my wife's iCloud or App store ID that is invited. Since she is signed into the app store with the app store ID will the app store see purchases shared with the iCloud ID.
I guess I could try trial and error, but there is a limited number of resets allowed. I have already learned we shouldn't both set up Family sharing on our iOS devices One has to be the inviter, the other the invitee.
I am beginning to think this may not be so useful.

I went into iCloud, signed out and then signed back in and it corrected the problem.

  • After I've set-up my iOS device with an Apple ID for iCloud, how can I change the iCloud Apple ID?

After updating my iPad 2 & iPhone 4 to iOS 5, I set-up each one for iCloud, but inadvertently used 2 different Apple ID's (one me.com and one that I typically use for Apple purchases).  I realize this will prevent the two devices from syncing.  When I try to change the iCloud Apple ID, it is grayed out, and I can't find any way to re-set it on my iPad.  Does anyone know how to re-set this ID so both devices are operating on the same ID?
I have a second question (though not as pressing as the first).  I'd like to use my me.com ID to sync calendars, contacts, etc., but another ID to sync my Apple purchases (apps, etc.).  This way my wife and I could share apps, but each sync our iPhones and iPads to our own content.  Does anyone know if this type of dual-ID set-up is possible on one device?
I know there's a lot of confusion out there, but I'm trying to keep in mind that this is a huge upgrade and transition for Apple, so it will all work out, and should be fantastic when it does.  It'll just take a little time to sort out.  Thanks for any suggestions!  -Bob-

    Hi Jeremy,
That is my understanding.  Clicking "Delete Account" is similar to logging out of iCloud with that account.
But your situation is different from mine, as I had been using my @me.com account for "Find My iPhone" only.  I ended up using my @me.com account for iCloud and another account for my Apple iTunes Store purchases.
That's correct--it will not delete your purchases.  You can still back-up to your Mac with iTunes using the same account you used to purchase your Apple stuff.  -Bob-

  • After I updated to iOS 7, my iCloud account is showing the incorrect email address for my Apple ID but will not allow me to change it- it's gray and I can't click on it. How do I fix this?

If you change your email, you do not need to "change" your AppleID. Just edit your email(s) on your Apple ID by logging in to your AppleID account. You should always use the same AppleID for  Apple Services (iCloud, iTunes etc) and multiple ID will cause problems and confusion in the future.

  • How do I add a comment to a cell in Numbers for iCloud beta like I can in Numbers for ios???

I can't be the only person to find it incredibly frustrating that it seems impossible to add a comment to a cell in beta. I use this function a lot on my ipad - is it really not available in beta?? And if not, why not??

    Hey lolitajoon,
Thanks for the question. You are correct, comments are hidden from all iWork apps when imported to iWork for iCloud beta. Please note that the current release of Numbers for iCloud is a beta version. Therefore, certain features aren’t yet supported.

  • Can someone provide direction on sharing an Apple ID for Itunes, but creating a separate Apple ID for Icloud?

Can someone provide direction on sharing an Apple ID for Itunes, but creating a separate Apple ID for Icloud?

    Welcome to the Apple Community.
I'm not sure what there is to tell. Just use the Apple ID you wish to share to log into the iTunes store (Settings > iTunes & App Stores) and the seperate Apple ID's you want to use for iCloud (Settings > iCloud)

  • My Apple ID is claimed to be not supported on my iPad ios 8.1.1, when attempting to sign in to iCloud ( settings/icloud). The address works fine for iTunes and for iCloud from my MacBook.

i Cannot sign in to iCloud on my iPad. It has the most recent iOS.  The error message says unsupported  id.  However this Apple ID works in iTunes on the same ipad and works fine logging into iCloud from my MacBook.

    Hi, erviv.
Thank you for visiting Apple Support Communities.
I understand that you are receiving a unsupported Apple ID error when you try to sign in to iCloud.  Here is some information that you may find helpful with this.
I get an “Unsupported Apple ID” error when I try to sign in to iCloud from my iPhone, iPad or iPod touch.
Depending on how you created your Apple ID, you may not be able to create an iCloud account with your current Apple ID. If your Apple ID works with the iTunes Store, App Store, Game Center, FaceTime, or other Apple services, your Apple ID should work for iCloud. Also, if you created your Apple ID while you applied for a job at jobs.apple.com, your Apple ID should work for iCloud. If you can't use your Apple ID with any Apple services, it might not be compatible with iCloud. Contact iCloud Support for assistance.

  • Does iCloud have any options for video sharing?

I found the MobileMe gallery for videos and pictures really useful.  I am trying to find an alternative for video sharing that will allow me to upload files up to 2 GB so I can send a link and people can view the video streaming without having to download it.
All I could find is Vimeo Plus.  Anything else out there I should consider.  Does Apple offer an alternative to what we had on MobileMe?

    No.
Photostream is for photos only as the name says, and even this has no gallery or sharing features. Videos are not supported at all . The content in your camera roll is backed up, including videos, but that's only for restoring the device to the last known state if necessary.

  • I installed IOS 8 on my iPad and it continually asks for ICloud login. Why?

I just installed IOS 8 on my iPad and phone and it continually asks me to login for ICloud.  I login and then it asks again about a minute later.  Is this a bug or something I can fix?

If your devices are signed into iCloud and haven't already tried, go to Settings>iCloud, tap Sign Out (or Delete Account if you aren't running iOS 8), choose Delete from My iDevice and provide your password when prompted (your data will still be in iCloud), then sign back in (your data will download back to your device.  See if that stops it.

Does an iOS device such as an iPad count as one of the five devices allowed for home sharing?

    This page says :
Home Sharing in iTunes is designed to let you easily share your iTunes media libraries between up to five computers in your household. You can also use Home Sharing to play your iTunes content on your iOS devices and Apple TV (2nd generation) if they are connected to your home Wi-Fi network.
