Is iOS able to stream to APEs if they're used as extenders for TC Base?

Hi
I have an TC which i have hooked a APE (by cat5) to for extending the WiFi.
I also use the AEP to stream music from my iMac to my speakers, works fine.
But the APE doesn't show up in the iPod app on my iPhone 4 (which is connected to the WiFi). Can that really be true or am i having a problem?

You seem to be having a problem.
The Airport Express (AX) should show up with an Airplay button in your music window so you can select the Airport Express to stream the music to.
I have 3 Airport Express (AX) units and 3 iPod Touch models. All work fine.

  • When I select a netflix movie on my iPad and push it to my apple TV, why doesn't the Apple TV take over the streaming, so that I can then use my iPad for other things?

From what I can tell, when I select the movie and hit the airplay button to move it to the apple TV, my iPad is still doing all the work of streaming the movie.  Why can't the apple TV take over the heavy work at this point?  I'd like to be able to use my iPad as more of a remote with an awesome interface for the apple TV.  The netflix app on iPad is great, and the easiest way to browse movies, and pushing them to the apple TV is fantastic, but once the movie starts, I want to use my iPad for other things!!!  Can this be put on the "to do" list for devs?

Have you tried the Remote app on iPhone/iPad to control AppleTV, do searches etc?  Should be easier than the remote alone and this does not involve Airplay.
Please note, only users read/comment here  - your idea is quite sensible in my view (maybe have a 'Continue viewing on AppleTV' option or something.  I doubt this would be high on Apple's roadmap but send them feedback here:

  • I've reported my phone lost if some one finds it and is able to unlock the phone can they still use it thru wifi?

reported my iphone lost if lost if someone finds it and is able to unlock it can they still use its wifi features ?

Just in case....go to icloud.com/#find and see if your phone shows up.
If it doesn't, there is nothing you can do to prevent someone else from using it if they know the passcode. That means it's time to start changing any and all passwords you have for websites & apps.

  • Using Airport Express for wireless printing and possibly streaming music

I have had the toughest time figuring out this Airport Express. It seems there are so many different ways to set it up. I've tried to read forums but just can't seem to wrap my head around what I need to do. I tried awhile back to join my network wirelessly but was having problems.
I don't really care about extending my current network. My internet service is through Verizon Fios and the router they provided works just fine and don't have any issues with connecting anywhere in the house. I bought the AE to be able to print wirelessly and stream music from my iMac in another room.
So to print wirelessly obviously the printer has to be plugged in to the AE, but does the AE have to be plugged into my router? Or can I have the AE anywhere in the house wherever the printer is? When I print, am I using my existing network or do I have to disconnect a computer from the wireless network and access a 2nd network to be able to print?
My first priority is to print wirelessly. If I can get it to work It'd be cool to stream music from my iMac. Obviously the AE needs to be where the speakers are, but again, does the AE have to plugged in to the router? And again, is this done through my existing network? Or do I have to stream music through a 2nd network? I apologize if i'm asking the same questions that have been asked in previous forums, I just haven't been successful thus far so wanted to see what response or tips I could get. Thanks.
My existing network has "WPA Personal" security set up on it if you need to know that.

but does the AE have to be plugged into my router? Or can I have the AE anywhere in the house wherever the printer is?
If you configure the Express correctly to "join" your FIOS wireless network, you can position it anywhere that it will receive a good, strong wireless signal.
The trick to setting the Express up to "join" is that you must choose exactly the same type of security for the Express as your main router is using. This is tricky when you are using devices from two different manufacturers because they often use different names for the same thing.
For example, when you say that the FIOS is setup to WPA Personal, we really need more information. There's usually a TKIP or AES associated with WPA. You have two choices on the Express for WPA settings, WPA2 Personal or WPA/WPA2 Personal. We can only guess which one might be the correct match for your FIOS network and if you don't choose the right setting, the Express cannot join the network and you have to start the configuration all over again from scratch and try the other setting.
Does your Fios have a setting for WPA2 Personal? Some manufacturers label this WPA2-PSK (AES). Or, maybe you find that your FIOS is using WPA-PSK (TKIP), which is the same thing as Apple WPA/WPA2 Personal. It's confusing. That's why we tell users to choose wireless gear from the same manufacturer. It's much easier when two devices talk the same language.
When I print, am I using my existing network or do I have to disconnect a computer from the wireless network and access a 2nd network to be able to print?
If you have a compatible printer plugged into the USB port on the AirPort Express and have "installed" the printer by setting it up, you will be able to print over your existing wireless network.
First things first. You need to get the Express setup to "join" correctly and get a green light. Then, tackle the printer setup.

  • On iPhone 5c iOS 8.2, I go to settings, cellular, use cellular data for: Under "use cell data for are my apps but they are greyed out how can I ungrey them??

iOS 8.2 on iPhone 5c, goto settings, cellular, use cellular data for: all my apps under "use cellular data for" are greyed out. I've restart and hard reset. Looked thru all settings. Can someone help??

Did you try to reset the phone by holding the sleep and home button for about 10sec, until the Appel logo comes back again? You will not lose data by resetting.
If this does not work, did you try to switch off Cellular Data, restart the phone and switch it back on again?

  • Just downloaded the 7.1 IOS update and I'm able to stream my music from the cloud. Does this use up data and how can I get it to stop pausing for periods of time?

Just downloaded the 7.1.1 IOS update and I'm able to stream my music from the cloud. I'm wondering how I can stream more than just my purchased music? And does this use up data? Also, how can I get playback to stop pausing for periods of time? It is a wifi thing??

If streaming music when connected to your carrier's cellular network, it uses cellular data.
Only the music you purchased from the iTunes Store can be streamed unless you have purchased iTunes Match.
If there is a slow down at the server where the music is stored or high traffic, steaming can be paused. You can also download a song from the iTunes Store cloud to your iPhone so it doesn't need to be steamed.

  • Since upgrading to 7.0.3 (iPhone 5 64gb, with iTunes Match enabled) all of my music wiped off my phone.  Downloading it again, most of the artwork has been mixed up with other artists, and I'm no longer able to stream or download over 3G? Any ideas?

Since upgrading to 7.0.3 (iPhone 5, 64gb, with iTunes Match enabled) almost all of my music has vanished from my phone (weirdly some hasn't).
Downloading it again, most of the artwork has been mixed up with other artists, and I'm no longer able to stream or download over 3G (all tracks greyed out), though my network settings etc are all set correctly.
Lastly since upgrading to iOS 7.0.1 (and beyond) Genuis has become effectively useless: it continually asks me to connect to wi-fi, and if I do it creates playlists mostly composed of tracks by the same artists or those very obviously linked to them- previously it created brilliant, nuanced playlists.
Are these things connected, and how do I fix them?

I have done this on numerous occasions but I think that my Iphone has a defect. After many tries, reinstalls, deletion of content, changing content to be stored on external hard drive, deleting itunes and cleaning computer I managed to get all of the songs on and things seemed okay for a while.
The problem returned about a week ago after downloading a new album from Itunes. I now have 12.5k of songs leaving 10gb spare on Iphone which should be more than enough room to operate properly. Last night it seemed to be dowloading ok (after doing all of the above again for the umpteenth time) this morning it revealed that it had just synched 2.5k of songs and 18gb of "other" on the contents bar. it wont synch now as it says its over capacity. So the 18gb of "other" would probably be corrupted data that means it must corrupt each song as it tries to synch it.
The 2.5k of songs it did synch are working on the Iphone as is every song in the library on Itunes. I did completely delete the new album I bought and redownloaded it from the store then tried to synch just that album and it worked fine.
Just about time to dump apple I think!

  • Does iOS 5 support streaming from iTunes Match?

    Hi everyone,
I'm considering signing up for iTunes Match,  I just have a question about the way it works in iOS 5.
I have a 16GB iPhone with iOS 5, and the reason I'm wanting a cloud service is because I can't fit my music library on the iPhone itself, so I'd like to be able to stream it.
My question is, does iTunes Match allow me to stream music on the iPhone using iOS 5, or is streaming only a feature for iOS 6 devices? It would rather defeat the point of getting iTunes Match if I have to download each song before listening, as obviously that's no better than just syncing with iTunes.
    Thanks in advance.

In iOS 5 all music is downloaded to permanent storage when you listen to it. It is similar in iOS 6 except the "streamed" songs are not store in permanent memory on the iOS device.

  • Will I be able to stream my Macbook Air to my TV using Apple TV?

On the Apple TV page, it says that I will be able to stream my iOS devices to my TV using Apple TV and a HDMI cable. It doesn't mention anywhere if I can stream my Macbook Air to the TV, though, and if I can't it would be a deal breaker for me.
If it matters, I bought my Macbook Air in June, so it's pretty new. I'm running OS X 10.7.5, but if I have to upgrade to be able to stream it, I'm willing to do it.
    Thanks in advance!

    Welcome to the Apple Community.
AirPlay Mirroring requires a second-generation Apple TV or later, OS X 10.8 or better and is supported on the following Mac models: iMac (Mid 2011 or newer), Mac mini (Mid 2011 or newer), MacBook Air (Mid 2011 or newer), and MacBook Pro (Early 2011 or newer). It also requires the computer to be using wi-fi.

You can each have your own ID for your own iTunes accounts, but in order for a device to stream via AirPlay to the same Apple TV, everything must use the same homesharing ID. This is not the same as your iTunes account ID (although it can be for one of the devices)

  • No Longer Able to stream content to Xbox 360

I have just installed Lion and can no longer stream media to my Xbox 360 using Rivet. I had no problems streaming them before, and am still able to stream the media on my 2TB NAS drive but it says the format is not supported on my Xbox when I try to play media on my MBP (with Lion). All of the files are regular .avi files, and play fine on my machine. Anybody else having issues streaming to xbox 360 since upgrading to Lion?
    Thanks

It happened the same to me using Rivet and streaming (from my iMac) to my TV directly (has Wifi).
In Rivet webpage says that Rivet is no longer supported by them (so I supose that there is no update for Lion). Nevertheless, I have tried with other media servers (like Serviio or Majestic) and doesn't work either...
Anybody know if there is going to be a patch or a solution?
Thanks a lot, greeting from Spain :-)

  • Home Sharing - no longer able to stream videos to iPads

I have an iMac running latest update to Snow Leopard ( 10.6.7 ), latest version of iTunes ( 10.2.2 ), an iPad 2 running 4.3.3, an iPad 1 running 4.3.2, and an Apple TV 2.  Home Sharing is enabled for all of the devices.
I have no issues whatsoever with the ATV2 - works like a champ when streaming anything from the iMac.
However, I can no longer stream movies to either of the iPads and unfortunately am not sure when it stopped working.  I am able to stream music through the iPod app without a problem though.
I launch the videos app, select Shared, selected my imac library, and browse the movies.  I have noticed that some of the titles don't match the movie and when I select a movie to play, I just get a never-ending spinning wheel.  This behavior occurs on both ipads.
Any help or suggestions would be very much appreciated as it is a bit annoying!
    tia,
    Bill

After more investigation, I found the issue.
I was able to stream ripped movies, but not movies that were purchased through iTunes.  This led me to believe the issue was with DRM and authentication.  So even though my Home Sharing credentials appeared to be okay on the iPads, re-entering the password on both fixed the problem!

  • Shouldn't we be able to stream as well as download by now?

Now the new iTunes 8 is out, and we can finally start downloading HD content in the form of TV shows, the question is going to arise at some point- where the **** are we supposed to put it all?
I have a 200GB hard drive and it is getting pretty full already. Now we have episodes of Battlestar Galactica that take up 1.38GB in HD (that's the size of the free episode, so the rest are that size more or less too), as well as having the SD version taking up another half a gig just so you can watch it on your iPod. That's almost 2GB for one episode!
There are 64 episodes worth of Battlestar Galactica (splitting double episodes into singles), which will mean you will take up 120GB of hard drive space to have the whole series so far (there is another half of season 4 to come).
Now at this rate we are all going to need our own giant servers!
What I would like is to be able to buy a video, but opt to not download it unless I wanted to sync it to my iPod. I would be able to stream the video (music, tv show, film, or otherwise) directly from iTunes servers when ever I want as I have paid for that right to do so. If I do download it, I can delete it at any point, and still be able to stream it again, or download again at a later date if required.
What does everyone think of this? Opinions please.

    Hi Falko,
If you open the Software Assurance Benefits: Entitlement Summary that you refer to, and hover over the Open License/MDOP
box, it reads "You may subscribe to MDOP when you have active Software Assurance coverage for the Windows desktop operating system."  It also makes sense that there is no checkbox for MDOP under Open License (and not the others) because SA is
optional for Open License (but included for the others).  We have
(the optional) "Software Assurance coverage for the Windows desktop operating system" and therefore according to that PDF, we "may subscribe to MDOP."  But, obviously, that PDF leaves a bit to interpretation and is, rightfully,
    absolutely not authoritative.
The authoritative combination of licensing documents (and their precedence) are described in the License Stack blog post.  In our case, we agreed to
the license terms when we agreed to the Open License Agreement.  The Open License Agreement references two documents that mention MDOP:
    the Product List
    the Product Use Rights
Neither the Open License Agreement, the Product List, nor the Product Use Rights documents make any distinction between Open Value and Open License when referencing MDOP.  In fact,
the only prerequisite to MDOP stated anywhere is "Active Software Assurance for the Windows Desktop Operating System".
I just don't see what I am missing.  The authoritative licensing documents are absolutely clear: If you have Software Assurance for the Windows Desktop Operating System, you are eligible to acquire licenses for MDOP.  There is no distinction
based on how you acquired your Software Assurance.
Is there a licensing professional at Microsoft that could clear this up for me please?
    Thanks for your help,
    Alex

  • 400 Error - not able to streaming at all

I am trying to streaming a audio clip using a sdp file but QuckTime is not able to streaming it. I got a message:
    404: <path of the clip>
I have a good bandwith and I would like to know what is wrong.
Before error...QuickTime plug-in is displayed, then message "negotiating" is displayed, then message "Waiting for media 7.9s" (it is a reverse counter) is displayed, then message "switching transport" is displayed, and then message "404: <path of the clip in Server>" is displayed.
    Could you help me?
    How can I fix it?

When I move my laptop to a different network, It works.
Also, sometimes when the bandwith is low the 404 error happen.
The Path of the file is correct.
I think 404 error for QuickTime plug-in may has a different meaning.
Do someone know for what cases QuickTime plug-in shows 404 error?
