Is IOS FTP server rfc959 compliant?

I'm having some problems getting a Siemens application and a Cisco IOS FTP server communicating. I think it may be because neither has implemented RFC959 correctly. My question to you is about the Cisco IOS server.
I'm using the Cisco IOS server i.e.:
ftp-server enable
ftp-server topdir <whatever>
I notice that if I use the Microsoft DOS command line FTP client, and issue an 'ls' command to the Cisco IOS FTP server then, among other commands, the relevant FTP command sent by DOS is 'NLST'. According to RFC959 this should send a simple stream of filenames separated by CR/LF and no other information. However DOS displays the fully formatted results i.e. with attributes, dates, file size etc. This is more like what I'd expect from the 'LIST' FTP command.
So the question is, does the Cisco IOS FTP server comply with RFC959 NLST command? Or am I interpreting things wrong (I haven't done a full protocol analysis yet)?
IOS is (C1841-BROADBAND-M), Version 12.4(1a).

According to the following statements,a cisco IOS FTP server complies with RFC 959.
FTP
-ether2.ip.tcp.ftp
File Transfer Protocol Control Port; an FTP client initiates an FTP control connection by sending FTP commands from user port (U) to this port./RFC 959
The above statement is mentioned in the following URL:

  • How can i do scheduled automatic backups to an ftp server in ios xr?

    Hello guys! As the title says im looking forward to automatically back up my running config on a cisco CRS-1 to an FTP server. I was only able to find this config example:
    Configuration commit auto-save filename ftp://A.B.C.D/myconfig.txt
    This allows me to save my config to an ftp server everytime i use commit on the device. Now i want to know if there's a way to automatically save my configs everyday at 00:00  and also include the date and time in the name of the file so i don't overwrite the existing files in the ftp server.
    I dont want to use any tool i just wanna know if what im asking is possible via CLI commands. I would greatly appreciate your help with this subject.
    Regards,
    David

    Not sure if this script will work on a CRS, but try this:
    archive
    log config
    logging enable
    hidekeys
    path tftp:///$h-
    write-memory
    time-period 10080
    Explaination:
    There are two ways to save your config to your remote station:
    1.  When someone saves the config; and
    2.  At an alloted time period, expressed in 10080 (weekly for me).

  • Empty files are getting created at receiver FTP server

    Hi Experts,
    I have an Idoc to File scenario where I am sending an XML file to receiver FTP server.
    Scenario is working fine but sometimes an empty file is getting generated at receiver FTP server.
    I have already selected ignore empty file at receiver channel so issue is not within PI system configuration.
    When I checked the message log I can see that almost all the files are getting created successfully without any issues, but
    for some files/messages I can see that there are below error logs.
    "Transmitting the message to endpoint <local> using connection IDoc_AAE_http://sap.com/xi/XI/System failed, due to: com.sap.engine.interfaces.messaging.api.exception.MessagingException: Could not get FTP connection from connection pool (1 connections) within 5,000 milliseconds; increase the number of available connections"
    "Exception caught by adapter framework: Could not get FTP connection from connection pool (1 connections) within 5,000 milliseconds; increase the number of available connections."
    And after there is again success message log in the same message and it creating a file successfully during that time stamp.
    but the third party is sometime receiving empty file which I am not able to find in any trace or log (my file name is SD_timestamp.xml).
    Can you please let me know what is the solution and what adjustments FTP server need to do in order to resolve this issue.
    Thanks in advance.
    Regards,
    Rahul Kulkarni

    The error you are getting that says "Could not get FTP connection from connection pool (1 connections) within 5,000 milliseconds; increase the number of available connections" has probably nothing to do with the empty files problem.
    I second Hareesh Gampa that you first should try "temporary file creation". You might also need to tell the FTP owner that he should only pick up files with that are written completely and that do comply with a negotiated file name schema. The temp file should have another schema of course then. He should not pick up just every file that is written. See here for details

  • Failure to connect to FTP server using FTP Adapter?

    Attempting to setup a SOA 11g composite app to demo the use of a FTP Adapter. Composite used a File Adapter (Read, opaque schema) wired to a mediator which was wired to a FTPAdapter (ASCII-Put, opaque schema). The routing rule in the mediator maps the File-Read opaque schema to the FTP ASCII-Put opaque schema.
    In the document "+User's Guide for Technology Adapters 11g Release 1 (11.1.1)+" I followed the steps in 4.2.21 Securing Enterprise Information System Credentials to set username/password (ftpuser/oracle) for the eis/Ftp/FtpAdapter connection. This is the default JNDI name for the FTP Adapter.
    For the FTP server installed Filezilla server. Configured the home directory to appropriate folder.
    Installed Filezilla client to test the server using ftpuser/oracle - as the created user on the server. No problem here – can see the appropriate folders and ftp files to/from the folders.
    Used a similar composite using a File Adapter-Write (opaque schema) instead of the FTPAdapter (ASCII-Put - opaque schema). This composite works with no issues. FYI – using JDev 11.1.1.1, SOA Suite 11g.
    Was not using VPN.
    When placed the required file in its directory (for the File-Read) it was read but the ASCII-Put file from Filezilla server did not appear.
    Based on error/fault messages seems to be a login issue. However, have no idea as to where the issue as all usernames/passwords are correct. But then - isn't that always the case?
    After having worked on this for a couple of days - need some help - please.

    I've an ftp adapter configured to read from windows server(SOA server running on IBM AIX, filezila on Windows server). I've provided the hostname,username,password, accountname,ftpAbsolutePathBegin as /, port as 21.
    I've set listParserKey to WIN.
    Still FTPAdapter is unable to read from Windows server.
    I'm able to get, delete etc from ftp commands through putty.Port 21 is open.
    Any clue?

  • Receive file by FTP (Server is restricted to get command only)

    Dear all,
    I would like to receive a file from a very special FTP server. And I am not sure if the File Adapter is able to handle this:
    The FTP server I wand to connect to is a very special one. This server allows only to log in and to receive a specific file. This means that the only allowed command is
    get file.dat
    It is not possible to change directory or to get the directory listing. When the file was received it is not necessary (and not possible) to delete the catched file. The FTP server notices that the file was received and removes its content. This means that the file will not be removed. So it is always possible to get the file. But in most cases the file is empty (but that should not be a problem - the File Adapter can handle or ignore empty files.).
    From my point of view it seems that SAP XI 3.0 SPS17 does not support to interact with this special kind of FTP Server. In RWB I can see the following error message:
    "An error occurred while connecting to the FTP server 'XXX.XXX.XX.X:21'. The FTP server returned the following error message: 'com.sap.aii.adapter.file.ftp.FTPEx: 500 -3002 : command : invalid command'. For details, contact your FTP server vendor."
    I connected to this FTP server manually. I get this error message when I try a command which is not allowd by the FTP server ("ls" for example). So I guess that SAP XI uses "ls" before catching the file.
    Do you have an idea how I can configure the File Adpater to work with this FTP Server properly?
    Many thanks
    Michael

    Hi Michael,
    This is a tricky one. The set of required ftp commands that need to be supported to be RFC compliant is quite small (see RFC 959) but it seems that the file adapter assumes a certain minimum set (including CWD and LIST, both of which are optional).
    There are several options, varying in complexity immensely:
    1) Scripting the transfer process so that files are transferred to a local filesystem, from where they can be processed by XI
    2) Adjusting the "special ftp server" so that it ignores commands it doesn't understand - I'm guessing this isn't possible?
    3) Creating a "more relaxed" ftp JCA adapter, one that doesn't assume a certain minimum set of commands
    4) Something else I'm not thinking of so early in the morning
    Hope that helps a little...

  • VRF and FTP Server

    I have a weird problem with VRF and FTP Server. I have a lab setup whereby two VRFs Client1 and Client2 are created. Both the VRFs are in the same subnet. I have configured FTP-Server and TFTP-Server on this router. TFTP-Server works perfectly fine from both the networks. But for FTP-Server, I can login in to the FTP Server and authenticate positively. But when I try to do listing of directory, it gives a error "can't bind data".
    The web access to this router also works perfectly fine.
    Any idea why FTP fails.
    Before configuring vrf, the FTP server did work fine.
    Any idea why. here's the config :
    interface FastEthernet0/0.371
    description Client1
    encapsulation dot1Q 371
    ip vrf forwarding client1
    ip address 10.0.1.1 255.255.255.0
    interface FastEthernet0/0.372
    description Client2
    encapsulation dot1Q 372
    ip vrf forwarding client2
    ip address 10.0.1.1 255.255.255.0

    Ohhhhhhhh!!!
    I'm even more convinced its a passive/active problem with the ftp control channel. Did you try the gentleman's suggestion of passive ftp?? What's happening is that from a client on one vrf, you're attempting to terminate the ftp session in a router whom is in the second vrf. The ftp data session isn't vrf-aware from the sound of it, hence my question about what device models and IOS you're using.
    But I agree, it's getting complicated enough that sounds like TAC-time. My bet is something isn't vrf-aware to the point that the data is lost. For instance, to ping from one device to another from _within_ a vrf router instance, you have to use the keyword "vrf" like "ping vrf VRF_Name src dest".
    In your situation, your source is on one vrf while the destination is _within_ the second vrf, not just simply the IP packet being routed from vrf1-client (like a Windows PC) to vrf2-server (like a Unix ftp server).
    I'd be interested in hearing their solution.

  • Java ftp server which can use LDAP, how to integrate with WLS' implementation of LDAP?

    Howdy.
    I'm setting up a java ftp server
    (http://www.mycgiserver.com/~ranab/ftp/index.html) which is capable of using
    LDAP for it's user security. I would like to integrate this ftp server with
    wls' implementation of LDAP so I only have to admin one user list.
    Does wls put it's user list in the LDAP or in it's own proprietary setup? I
    tried playing around with it, but the users don't seem to appear in the JNDI
    tree. Is this where the LDAP stuff is located? I thought it was in there?
    If it's in it's own setup, is there a way to propagate the users to LDAP?
    If these look like newbie Q&A, I guess they kind of are, I'm new to LDAP.
    Thanks for any input you might have.

    Peter,
    If you are talking about using the embedded LDAP server in WLS 7.0 for this purpose
    I think you are going done the wrong path.
    Look at the following URL on how to use an external LDAP server for your custom
    application

  • Output to an ftp server via Destinations or Applescript

    In Compressor, you can set the Destination of a compression batch to be a remote server, such as an ftp server.
    When you start a batch, if the destination is not available or reachable then the documentation (p.230) says: "When there is a problem with your destination, a yellow warning triangle appears. You must resolve this problem before you can successfully transcode."
    Although I have not tried it, it implies that if your remote ftp server is not accessible when you drop a file on a created droplet with the Destination set to an ftp server, it won't be able to begin encoding until the destination is available: "As soon as you resolve the problem, the warning triangle disappears and you can continue to transcode." (p.230)
    For a lot of people, this is OK.
    Some people need to compress and then tranfer the output to a distant location, and they may not have continuous, reliable access to the remote location. They may need to make a temporary connection via modem dial-up, satellite phone or third-world Internet connections. Think news reporters in remote locations.
    So, for those people, the option of Applescript should allow them to have their output files saved to a local destination, and then staged up to the ftp server using the built-in commands. But, the problem is that a small file is created at the Destination when the compression is started, and Compressor is not Applescript aware (apart from being able to call an Applescript). This means that any Applescript called as a post processing activity knows nothing about the files Compressor just processed and outputted. It has to glean information about them from the Destination folder where the output files are placed, and then sort out the completed output files from the ones that have just been started, then ftp the completed files up to an ftp server and delete sent files from the Destination folder.
    What I would like to see is either
    1) a Staged Destination where files are created on the first Destination then staged to a secondary Destination, with an option of keeping these files on the first destination, and/or
    2) Applescript support in Compressor which will allow information about the files that have just been compressed to be passed to another Applescript aware application or script.
    I would be happy even with some sample Applescript to do the transfer or files from Destination to an ftp server that avoids copying files that haven't been fully processed.
    Has anyone else run into these issues?

    Oh, trust me, I do know about Apple and the fact this discussion site is not an official contact point for Apple. I'll be escalating this Request for Enhancement through my contacts at Apple.
    There is a reason I have not posted before in this forum (and relates to the above).
    There seems to be few people who are using the Applescript post-processing feature, and I was trying to gauge any support for enhancements in this area (and maybe stir up some villagers with pitchforks and burning torches).
    Apple will listen to normal users input, but it needs to have a business case that justifies any resources devoted to this. The more people affected, and the greater the impact on your business, and the size/importance of your business has an effect on whether you will get what you want, and when.
    Sorry if I was not clear on what I wanted: information as whether this was important for other (non-Apple) people, and whether people had scripts that solved the problem of staging output files to an ftp server that was not consistently connected during the compression process.
    Thanks for your reply,

  • No Data in PDF file in FTP server

    Hi All,
    I am trying to place a PDF file in FTP server.
    Used
    CONVERT_OTFSPOOLJOB_2_PDF to convert spool to PDF
    SCMS_TEXT_TO_XSTRING
    FTP_R3_TO_SERVER to transfer data to FTP.
    I am able to see PDF file in FTP and no of pages matches with that of R/3 but there is no data in PDF file.

    To get pdf file , you need to set the itcpo-tdgetotf = 'X' and need to pass in the exporting parameter (options in open_form  function module ).Then in close_form function module take all the data of otfdata table into an internal table . Then use SX_OBJECT_CONVERT_OTF_PDF function module to convert it to pdf.
    I will show with an  example.
    tables itcpo.
    DATA: ch_otf  TYPE  STANDARD  TABLE OF  itcoo.
    DATA: w_otf TYPE itcoo.
    DATA: w_pdf TYPE solisti1. "For PDF
    DATA: i_content_txt TYPE soli_tab.
    DATA: temp1 TYPE sx_format VALUE 'OTF',
            temp2 TYPE sx_format VALUE 'PDF'.
      DATA: c_printer TYPE sx_devtype VALUE 'PRINTER'.
      DATA: w_transfer_bin TYPE sx_boolean. "Content
      DATA: i_content_bin TYPE solix_tab, "Content
            wa_content_bin TYPE solix,
            i_objhead TYPE soli_tab.
    itcpo-tdnoprint  = 'X'.
      itcpo-tdpreview = 'X'.
      itcpo-tdgetotf = 'X'.
    These three parameters need to be passed along with other required parameters
      CALL FUNCTION 'OPEN_FORM'
           EXPORTING form = xformular
                     language = ekko-spras
                     OPTIONS = itcpo
                     archive_index  = toa_dara
                     archive_params = arc_params
                     device = xdevice
                     dialog = xdialog
                     mail_sender        = sender
                     mail_recipient     = recipient
           EXCEPTIONS canceled = 01.
      CALL FUNCTION 'CLOSE_FORM'
        IMPORTING
          RESULT  = RESULT
        tables
          otfdata = ch_otf.
    LOOP AT ch_otf INTO w_otf.
        CONCATENATE w_otf-tdprintcom w_otf-tdprintpar
        INTO w_pdf.
        APPEND w_pdf TO i_content_txt.
      ENDLOOP.
    converting otf file to pdf file
      CALL FUNCTION 'SX_OBJECT_CONVERT_OTF_PDF'
        EXPORTING
          format_src      = temp1        "'OTF'
          format_dst      = temp2        "'PDF'
          devtype         = c_printer
        CHANGING
          transfer_bin    = w_transfer_bin
          content_txt     = i_content_txt
          content_bin     = i_content_bin
          objhead         = i_objhead
          len             = v_len_in
        EXCEPTIONS
          err_conv_failed = 1
          OTHERS          = 2.
    Then open dataset and transfer to ftp of the content of table content_bin(i_content_bin) as shown in above example.
    I think this will be helpful for you

    DATA_ERROR = 3
    OTHERS = 4
    can any one help me out to get the exact data..
    Really appreciate your quick response..
    Thank You

    Hi, if you really retrieve an excel file, you can not see the data in ABAP. You may see them in Excel. For this you may use
    CALL METHOD document->open_document_from_table
    of the interface i_oi_document_proxy for OLE objects. You can access the data with reference to the interface i_oi_spreadsheet.
    Please check [Desktop Office Integration (BC-CI)|http://help.sap.com/printdocu/core/Print46c/en/data/pdf/BCCIOFFI/BCCIOFFI.pdf] for details.
    But, who knows, perhaps you want "And Now For Something Completely Different".
