Is iPad 1 secure given no security updates as per ios7?

Is iOS 5.1.1 and therefore ipad1 vulnerable to the recent security problems addressed in ios7?

It's as secure as it's ever going to get but there may still be some holes. iOS 5 can still be Jailbroken for example. That itself represent a vector for attack. For normal use you should still be ok. What are you concerned about?

I have never had a passcode to lock  my iPad. Now that I have updated it with IOS7 it is asking for one and is locked. How do I unlock this without having to reset the whole thing through iTunes????

Unfortunately, if the iPad is insisting that you use a passcode, there is no way around it other than to restore the device using iTunes on a computer, or by erasing it in iCloud.com via Find My iPhone.
You could try resetting the iPad and cross your fingers and hope this is just a blip on the radar....hold down on the sleep and home buttons at the same time for about 10 seconds until the Apple logo appears on the screen.

  • ITunes no longer syncs to iPhone or iPad after iOS security update

I did the iOS security update on my iPhone 5 and my iPad Air.  Now, iTunes will not sync with either device - neither one.  In both cases, I get the error message "iPhone5 (or iPad) can not be synced.  An unknown error occured (1140)."
I then did the iTunes update that just came out - still the same problem.
The Mac is a MacBook Pro 2.4 GHz Intel Core 7 running OSX 10.7.5.  Everything worked fine before the iOS security update.
What is going on?  What to do?

Finally, I had time to do a on-line support session with the Apple Care help people (excellent).  We went through and verified a lot of things.  Finally, he had me run the disk utility and run "repair disk permissions".  That resolved things and it works now.
Also related is that the iOS 7.1 update installed a lot of stuff on the iPhone - including iMovie, Numbers, Pages, Keynotes - stuff that I will use on the iPad but not on the iPhone.  The result of automatically installing all these things on the iPhone was to but it way over the limit on memory.  I deselected thos apps (and a few others) plus some movies and am now below the memory limit on the iPhone.
Things are now working well with both the iPhone and iPad - both syncing correctly.  So, with that, I will close out this case.

When trying to download apps on my new iPad I keep getting prompted to update my security questions for my safety. When I choose this option it freezes and won't load the questions, however, when I hit not now it won't let me download. What do I do?

Reboot your iPad and then see if you can set the security questions.
Reboot the iPad by holding down on the sleep and home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider - let go of the buttons.

"7.0.4"?  The current version of iOS is 7.0.6.  Version 7.0.4 can no longer be downloaded or installed.

  • Cannot complete iPad security update download or installation. err= -3259

I've been having trouble downloading and installing the latest iPad security update (iPad version 4.3.5) from the most updated iTunes (version 10.4.1). Whenever it reaches the end of the download, it would give an " err= -3259 " code and indicate that my network connection has timed out. However, there isn't any problem with my network connection (this was even tested with an Apple staff in the Apple store). But they can't fix the problem either and asked for me to call Apple Support. Does anyone have a solution for this problem?

Some else helped me with this.

I was able to download, update, and restore my iPad using the process suggested by a helpful person in this thread.

  • How to access a security update on my IPad if I don't remember my code

Prior to my last security update to my IPAd I had always used my initial setup password. With this newest update it now requires a 4 item code which I do not know. Can you assist me with obtaining this 4 character code so I can download this update. Thank you!

The code should be the four digit number you use to unlock/open your iPad.

  • HT1414 I'm having trouble with my ipad security update

I did the security update and now all I get on my ipad is the words "itunes" with a pic of a cord attachment.

What did not help ? Not sure what you mean by 'look at this for me', but these are user-to-user forums.
You've connected the iPad to your computer's iTunes via the cable ? Did your computer's iTunes recognise the iPad ? If if did then did it not prompt you to reset/restore it ? If not then have you got the latest version of iTunes installed on your computer ?

  • HT201263 Problems with ipad after installing security update iOS 7.0.6

Cannot get my iPad 2 out of recovery mode after installing the security update iOS 7.0.6
have tried plugging in to iTunes- on computer but doesn't get iPad out of recovery mode!  Help?!?

Did you already try to reset the phone by holding the sleep and home button for about 10sec, until the Apple logo comes back again? You will not lose data by resetting, but it can cure some glitches.
If this does not work, try to connect in recovery mode, explained here:
iOS: Unable to update or restore

  • After latest security update my MacBook is not finding any network. My network is ok, iPad and iPhone have no problems, but laptop is for all practical purposes turned into typing machine. Has somebody encountered similar problem? What to do?

After latest security update my MacBook is not finding any network and I think is not really turning wifi on. Has anyone encountered similar problem?

Checked the older discussion of the same type and found solution, well kind of... Thanks to other people who tried it, I just cannot remember their names at the moment. So, the solution for me was to turn off the firewall in the system preferences and suddenly lo and behold there was my network.

  • Office 365 sync problems after most recent security update

Since the security update, mail and calendar are not syncing with an email address at outlook.office365.com. After the update, Mail and Calendar wouldn't open with several tries. Sent reports to Apple. Finally, Mac took longest time to boot with the spinning disc. Then Mail and Calendar would open but they don't sync with my work emails. It doesn't say it didn't sync but it is clear it did not given that I can see the emails on my iPad and through webmail and on my phone. Any ideas? How can I make sure Mail and Calendar didn't get corrupted? How can I fix? How can I make them work so I can work?

I thought that this happened to myself as well, but I just let the computer run at the gray screen, and the apple and loading indicator came up a minute later. It stayed this way for a while, then it restarted itself and all is well.

  • Can't access several websites after last security update

    Hello,
After upgrading both my Macbook Air mid 2011 and iMac 2008 (with SSD) both running Mountain Lion 10.8.4 to the last security fix, I can't access from any of those two computers a variety of websites, for example:
    www.opennicproject.org
    www.gentoo-el.org
    www.adslgr.com
These are only three. Almost half of Google's results are blocked. Using the terminal utility I am able to resolv some of them but not actually 'ping' them. I get no ping replies. I can access all these websites from other computers or devices (iPhone/iPad/Ubuntu desktop/WindowsXP laptop) on the same LAN. This problem exists only in the 2 macs  which are up-to-date. I am sure that this problem is related to latest security update I did a couple of days ago, to both computers.
I'd like to know if anyone who have all patches installed up to the latest OSX version (mountain lion 10.8.4) has the same issues and can ping/resolv/access these websites.
Note that although I can't access these websites directly using any direct network connection, I can access them using TOR browser bundle for mac, which means that something is going on at a computer level.
    I have checked so far:
    - Applicationn Apple's firewall is not creating the problem (disabled/enabled all)
    - ipfw/PF is not running with any ruleset
    - LittleSnitch blocks just a couple of annoying outgoing connections. Nothing there (I disabled/enabeld it, same thing).
    - Other computers access the websites/ping them/etc.
    - I can access websites using TOR.
NOTE: It's not just 3 websites, it's something like 1 out of 3 DuckDuckGo links.
    Ideas and thoughts are welcomed!
    Best Regards,
    PA

From the Safari menu bar, select
    Safari ▹ Preferences ▹ Extensions
Turn all extensions OFF and test. If the problem is resolved, turn extensions back ON and then disable them one or a few at a time until you find the culprit.
If you wish, you may be able to salvage the malfunctioning extension by uninstalling and reinstalling it. That will revert its settings to the defaults.

  • Security updates for snow leopard

    Hello Apple People,
I seem to be getting conflicting advice around upgrading my browser.
I'm on Snow Leopard on a mid-2009 Macbook. As I'm not receiving security updates and there are some websites telling me I need to upgrade, I decided to buy Mountain Lion from the online Apple Store. I couldn't redeem the code. I spoke with Apple who said I didn't need to get ML anyway, that I'd been given the wrong advice in-store and that I can go straight to Yosemite. They are refunding me which is good. Still, I'm no further ahead. I had prepared the way for upgrading: added 2GB RAM so I have 4GB. I've installed Office 2011 so that I shouldn't lose my Word 2004 docs. I have an external hard drive that I back up using Time Machine.
My concern is that I am vulnerable security-wise. Can anyone suggest what I do next? Maybe maximise my security settings? How can I find these?
    Thanks.

Nothing compels you to keep using Safari. Firefox and Chrome  work very well with Snow Leopard and are kept up to date. Interesting that the people who handled your problem with Mountain Lion were so eager to push you to Yosemite, rather than fix the problem.
The other thing you can do right now is go into your System Preferences/Date & Time and turn off "Set date and time automatically". You can fix this vulnerability yourself with a little not-too-difficult work:
    http://www.macissues.com/2014/12/24/how-to-manually-patch-ntp-for-os-x-10-6-and- 10-7/
I am not at all expert in using Terminal to do stuff like this, but I was able to assemble the necessary peices and get it done. It is well worth it to me to be able to keep using the best OS Apple has produced in the OS X era.
Regardless of which one you choose, there is no support for older apps that dowork with Snow Leopard because it has Rosetta, which allows continued use of PPC applications. Sounds like you are preparing for that end of things.
There are many changes to the user interface in both Mountain Lion and Yosemite, and they are generally not improvements. There are problems with improper external disk ejection in both of them that will apparently never be fixed by Apple. You should make a bootable clone of your Snow Leopard system in case you want or need to keep using it. This would involve using an external HD other than your current Time Machine disk. Not a big expense, as it affords you an additional, fully functional backup, and it would be better than burning your bridges by installing over your currently functioning system.
