Is iPhone unlocked when bought from an Apple store?

I bought a 3GS from an Apple store last year on PAYG in the UK. The guy in the shop asked me which network I'd like to use and he got me the SIM pack and set the phone up for me. I want to change carriers so will I have to get the phone unlocked first, or not?
Thanks

If you purchased it from the Apple store, it should have been unlocked. What happens when you put in the Australian SIM?

  • Can apple unlock an iPhone 4 that was bought from the apple store?

I bought an iPhone 4 last year from the apple store, my network provider cannot unlock it as I didn't get it through them. Hope someone can help.

Only the carrier (not Apple) can initiate the unlocking process.  In the US, AT&T has not and will not unlock the iPhone for anyone for any reason.
If your network provider cannot or will not unlock your phone, then you phone cannot be unlocked.  If you need an unlocked phone, sell yours and buy a factory unlocked phone.

  • Is my Iphone 4 unlocked for every country when bought in a Apple store?

    Hi evreyone,
I'm going to NY for an internship and I want to know if I can use my Iphone which I bought in an Apple store in France?
    Thanks for your help!!

If you did not pay the full price, it might be locked to a carrier, check here if the carrier offers unlocking.
iPhone: Wireless carrier support and features
The unlock process has to be started by the carrier.
    iPhone: About unlocking
iPhone is available for purchase and activation through Apple, wireless carriers, and authorized resellers (not all options are available in all countries or locations). In most countries, the place of purchase will verify that you have an account with the carrier, and then give you instructions on how to activate your iPhone. Verification of carrier account is not required in countries in which unlocked iPhones are available for sale.
Apple Online Store sells unlocked iPhone in the following countries: Australia, Austria, Belgium (French, Dutch), Brazil, Canada (English, French), China, Czech Republic, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Hong Kong (English, Chinese), Hungary, Ireland, Italy, Luxembourg, Malaysia, Mexico, New Zealand, Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Singapore, South Korea, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland (French, German), Taiwan, Thailand, Turkey,  United Arab Emirates, United Kingdom, and United States.

  • I bought an unlocked iPhone 4s in America from an Apple Store, need Japanese service.

As the topic line states, I bought an unlocked iPhone 4s in America from an Apple Store, need Japanese service. I need to use it in Japan. What should I do? What is a good provider? I heard that Softbank will not let you use ANY iPhone that is not purchased from them. So I am wondering what to do.
I will be studying in Japan for 15 months, so I think it best that I get a 2 year contract, seeing as I plan to work here, following graduation. Does anyone know a way around the Softbank issue? If not, should I choose AU or Docomo? If those don't make much sense, either, than should I simply return the iPhone that I purchased in America and sign up for a two year contract with Softbank here?
P.s. The whole purpose behind buying it in America to begin with was because if I return to America, I can always use it there, too.

    Hi,
I am in the same situation as Iooc, I live in Uruguay and the iphone 4s costs 1400 Us dollars. I have been told that this price is caused because apple does not offer a discount to the Uruguayan distributors, therefor they are buying at the same price as in an apple store.
Well, as I have a friend travel next week to the US, I wanted to know about the unlocked iPhone 4s. Is it only GSM? Won't I be able to use intent 3G in this phone here in Uruguay?
    Thanks

  • Hi there - I have an iPhone 4s which I bought from the apple store here in the UK. I am going to South Africa at the end of the year and I want to use a SA sim card - do I need it unlocked?

Hi there - I have an iPhone 4s which I bought from the apple store here in the UK. I am going to South Africa at the end of the year and I want to use a SA sim card - do I need it unlocked?

    Hi,
As far as I know, all the iPhones bought online or in the Apple Store ar unlocked.
Only carriers (e.g. T-mobile, Vodafone, O2) are able to lock a phone, Apple won't do that (afaik).
This would mean that you shouldn't need to unlock your iPhone.
    Kind regards,

  • I want to mirror my iphone4 to a hd device using the hdmi adapter i bought from an apple store, without jailbreaking my i phone?!

i want to mirror my iphone4 to a hd device using the hdmi adapter bought from an apple store but i donnot want to jailbreak my iphone4?

The iPhone 4 does not support mirroring.
However, you can still output video from supported Apps using the adapter. Apps such as the videos App, and the Phots App in slideshow mode will output video through the adapter.

  • If I buy a iphone 6 on contract from an Apple store will it be locked

If I buy a iphone 6 on contract from a Apple store will it be locked?

to lock with the first sim one put in makes not sense
unlocked phones cost the true price of the phone
the reason why locked phones cost more is because the carrier they are locked to pay the difference and expect to make their profit by the users usage
to lock automatic to the first sim one put in would mean that carrier would not had paid the difference so apple would not get anything out of it
and the user would not get anything out of it, the only who would, would be that random carrier sounds like a lotto system for sim locks

  • HT1937 How to unlock iPhone which I received from the Apple Store?

I used to live in Europe (Switzerland) which is where I initially purchased an iPhone under two year contract via Sunrise.  When I moved back to the US, I was unable to unlock this phone and the Apple Store where I lived swapped out my phone and replaced it with one that worked in the US.  I then took this phone to AT&T and got a month-to-month agreement (i.e., no contract).
Now I am changing providers and need to unlock the phone for use with the new carrier.  AT&T tells me that they are not able to unlock the phone because it's not one of theirs.  This doesn't sound right.
I'm wondering if anyone can provide help here.  There is no Apple Store within about 100 miles of me and I do not have the resources to travel that distance.  Can Apple provide me with an unlock in order to complete the process of changing providers?
    Thanks,
    V'rasana

Only the Carrier to which the iPhone is locked can initiate the
unlocking. What does it say when you look at Settings=>General=>Carrier?
If you were using the iPhone on AT&T, either it is one of theirs or it is
already unlocked. If it is an AT&T iPhone, only AT&T can unlock.
If it is already unlocked, it should work with other SIMs; have you
tried a SIM from the carrier you wish to go to?
Third possibility is that iPhone has been hacked/modified/jailbroken to work with
AT&T. If that is the case, there is nothing Apple or this forum can do.
Google may provide some assistance, but the software used to hack
the iPhone may have done irreparable harm that will prevent legitimate
unlock and may eventually render the iPhone unuseable.

  • How can I unlock my UK phone for AUS use when sourced from UK Apple Store (so without service provider to do it for me)?

So my Aus iPhone that I had unlocked to do a bit of travelling went for a swim in the Med- my service provider back home informed me that in order to claim on insurance internationally that I should get a new one from an Apple Store and send them the bill etc etc. I did that, and all was fine with the rest of my trip on a prepaid UK sim.  Now I am home and want to put my AUS sim in (where I am under postpaid contract) but my iPhone is not recognising it, with an error message of 'Invalid Sim'.  My service provider cannot help as the product was sourced from Apple originally and not them. Can someone let me know how this can be fixed?

Okay, so if you purchased your iPhone from an Apple store in the UK then it is fully unlocked.  Apple in the UK sell fully and officially unlocked iPhones, so you should not have a problem with inserting any sim card into your phone.  The phone will be unlocked as long as you purchased the phone in the UK for the full purchase price and not as sim free rather than unlocked.
Have a word with your provider, as there could possibly be a problem with your sim card.  Get a new sim card and try that.  There is no reason why this should not work on an unlocked iPhone.

  • My Belkin car charger is no longer supported by my iphone 5. It was bought from the Apple store. Is there a solution from Apple?

The Belkin car charger I purchased a year ago from the Apple store and has worked fine until recently  is no longer supported and will not charge my  iphone 5 it seems since IOs7 came in.  Is there a solution other than to have to buy a new one?

are you talking about a song or a ringtone?
either way, if its still on itunes you can just sync it back to your iphone.

I have just updated my iphone 4s with ios7. Since then i cannot play movies from my netflix app using my av cable to tv. which i baught from an apple store. i get a message saying turn off mirroring on airplay. i dont have airplay or an apple TV. what can i do?
    Thanks jonmac22

    Hi Everyone,
hope this message finds you all in time. The recent Apple TV update 5.1 is terrible. Apple knows it is which is why (thankfully for some relentless user -I have no idea who but I believe it was under threat) they have allowed to sign 5.0.2 again which means you can downgrade your Apple TV 2 and 3 to a 5.0.2 version via iTunes. Who knows how long they will keep the window open but I have downgraded my ATV early this morning. I couldn't post this earlier because I was out all day but I am doing it now.
    Here's how to do it:
    1) Connect your ATV to your computer via a Mini USB (not included with ATV but included with many other electronic devices) - in order for your ATV to appear in iTunes you must FIRST plug the USB cable to your computer and ATV and only THEN plug the power cable.
    2) Download your ipsw restore file from Apple.
    5.0.2 (ATV 2): AppleTV2,1_5.0.2_9B830_Restore.ipsw
    5.0.2 (ATV 3): AppleTV3,1_5.0.2_9B830_Restore.ipsw
    3) In iTunes select yout ATV, hold SHIFT and click on Restore
    4) Find and choose the downloaded IPSW file in the Open Dialog Box and hit Next
    5) As long as Apple still signs that version the Restore process will begin and will take a few minutes to complete.
    Enjoy!

  • How do I purchase a IPhone at full price from the Apple Store.

I have been a Verizon customer for over 10 years, and I currently have the unlimited data plan.  I was informed that if I upgrade my IPhone I would be required to switch to another Data plan (because the unlimited data plan is no longer offered).  I was also informed that if I am willing to pay full price for a new phone, then Verizon will allow me to keep my current plan.
If I am going to pay full price for a new phone, I would like to purchase it directly through the Apple Store instead of through Verizon.  Unfortunately, according to Apple, the only phones that I can purchase for full price are unlocked phones and these phones do not work with Verizon plans.
Has anyone been successful with purchasing a I-Phone from the Apple store at full price and using Verizon as their service provider?

  • Will i get the same care from the Apple Website as i do when buying from the Apple Store?

I am looking into buying an iPad mini 3 for christmas, i wanted to get the free engraving which only comes when you order from the website.
I was wondering if i will get the same level of care buying from the website as i did from the Apple Store?
I purchased a MacBook Pro from the Apple Store in Bath, UK about 3 years ago now, and when my Hard Drive packed up i took it into the Apple Store in Cardiff, UK to get it looked at. They replaced my Hard Drive there and then; free of charge as they were able to trace my purchase back to the Apple Store despite it being out of warranty. Will it be the same if there ever was a problem if i was to buy it off of the Apple Website?

The warranty is the warranty. Your device will be backed if it's bought from the site or brick and mortar store or even an authorized third party (in other words I bought my iPad at best buy and I can still take it into an apple store and have them back the warranty)
