Is iPhoto '11 safe to install yet?

It been a couple months since the release. Ive heard and read many horror stories about losing photos, computers slowing down, and computers and iphoto crashing.
Is it safe yet to install iPhoto '11? Have there been any solutions? Have any problems been diagnosed to an actual cause?
Thanks in advance!!!

After spending a ton of time reading up about it, I decided to load iLife 11 today.
1. I did a back up (I use time machine/time capsule)
2. I installed it.
3. Immediately loaded the software update after install. Didn't open any programs first.
4. Opened iPhoto 11, crossed my fingers, said it was ok to upgrade my library.
All the photos were there. But I noticed they looked blurry. Did some research online and others had this issue. It seemed to be getting resolved by doing a force quit. So I did the force quit. When I opened it again, they were all clear.
I tested the Facebook upload. That seemed slow. Forced quit iPhoto again and then launched it again, tried Facebook upload again and it was very quick.
Tested an upload to Flickr next and that seemed to work fine.
Tested mailing photos from with iPhoto with both my mobile me and gmail account, and it worked fine as well - seemed pretty quick process to me.
It all seems to be working fine now for me after the software update and two forced quits.

  • Safari 3.2.1 is it safe to install yet

Is it safe yet to install Safari 3.2.1 on my PB G4?
I tried installing 3.2 a few weeks ago and it was a disaster.
I ended up reinstalling OS 10.5 from disk and working my way back up to OS 10.5.6 w/Safari 3.1.2.
I do not want to go through that again if the bugs aren't out of 3.2.1 yet.
    Thank for any info
    Greg

    Hi
I use Safari 3.2.1 on 3 machines with no slow-down on any of them. All machines are using OS X Leopard. In this forum you are going to get a steady diet of problem situations - that's what the boards are for. I'd say most users (there are millions out there) seem to use Safari without significant issues.
If Safari slows down your system and you hear hard drive clicking, the hard drive may have directory errors (Disk Warrior is a great product for this task) that ought to be corrected before they cascade into bigger problems.
One area impacting Safari 3.2.1 has been 3rd party add-ons (not supported by Apple) which in some instances proved incompatible with the latest version. Most developers upgraded their add-ons to remedy the problem. Some didn't - AcidSearch is one example.
Another has been the new Fraudulent Site check. Some have had to disable this feature because of complications between their Internet Provider and the Google site search mechanism. This ought to be remedied in the coming months.
Adobe Flash ought to be at version 10. Version 9 has proved buggy. Important on a Flash install to "repair permissions" prior to a Safari restart.
The system cache at times may require a reset (using a Utility app such as OnyX is great for clearing the system caches).
Also, Safari benefits from house cleaning via the "Reset Safari" option in the Safari Menu (e.g. web icon database ought to be reset every couple of months, cache ought to be emptied daily, and no sense in maintaining history files over 7 days).
Firefox is a stand alone browser. It does not interact with other Apple apps. Safari by contrast accesses the Address Book, iTunes, Mail etc. So the overall health of the system is paramount for Safari to function without issues.

  • Heard that are a lot of problems with iOS 6.0.1 update. Is it safe to install yet on my iPhone 4?

I know a bunch of folks who have had major problems with the iOS 6.0.1 update on their iPhone 4.  Basically, it completely disables the phone, often requiring owner to send in for service.  Has this bug been fixed?  Is there a subseqent update?  I do not want to install the update until I am sure it will not wreak havoc on my phone. Thanks!

IF you don't need any of these updates - don't install them - its really that simple - and it will be many more people's rule for apple updates since iOS 6 I bet!

  • Is Leopard safe to install yet?

Hi I have a Mac Pro tower with Adobe CS3 suite, FCP Studio 4.5 and Parallels running Win XP plus a few more things. Just wondering if I install Leopard will it be a nightmare getting everything working again?
My whole business is based on my machine being operational so I can't have her her fail me. Would you advise that I let my local Mac technician take care of it?
    Thanks in advance,
    mark

Never install a new OS over a working OS on a production machine.
Get an external hard drive and install Leopard to there. If things go all to h*ll you can just boot back into Tiger and get back to work.
Repair your Permissions on Tiger by using Disk Utility, and remove any programs that require OS9 and any haxie programs like APE before you try to import your old files into a new OS.
Make sure that all of your programs are updated to Leopard versions, and check with your various hardware vendors for compatibility with printers, scanners, etc. Download the new drivers they may have for your equipment.
Download the 10.5.2 Combo update and have it on hand before you start the process.
After you have 10.5 running with your applications, repair you permissions again, Run the Combo update.
Use Software update to download and install all of the updates for your Apple programs and repair your permissions again.
Continue with both OS's installed on both drive and see if you can get your work done while using Leopard. Wait a week or so before using a program like SuperDuper to clone your new OS back to the internal drive (of course you've already made a bootable clone of your Tiger OS to another drive).
Be very methodical with this update and you will probably do well. Just put the DVD in and pray and you'll regret not following a path that can be undone.
Leopard's working very well and has a lot of nice features. But you have to make sure you don't screw it up with old legacy programs, settings and corrupt files.
Don't worry about getting some new drives for the conversion. You'll want to have as large a drive as you can afford for using Time Machine anyway...

  • Is it safe to install the latest IOS 8.0.2? I did not install it yet, waiting for any update if the issues will be fix. I am using an ipad air

I would like to know if it is safe to install the latest IOS because I do not want to be face with any issues.

Neither I nor the iOS users I help to support have experienced any problems with iOS 8.0.2.
If iOS 8 offers nothing that you need then you can remain at iOS 7 instead.

  • My iPhoto keeps crashing after installing the latest update, can't do anything!

My iPhoto keeps crashing after installing the latest update, can't do anything! It used to crash when importing but now I'm at the point where I open the software and after 2 seconds it crashes (nothing connected either). What to do? Can't access any photos

Try this:  launch iPhoto with the Option key held down and create a new, test library.  Import some photos and check to see if the same problem persists. If you can create a new library and import some test photos then the problem lies with your original library.
If that's the case make a temporary, backup copy (if you don't already have a backup copy) of the library and apply the two fixes below in order as needed:
    Fix #1
Launch iPhoto with the Command+Option keys held down and rebuild the library.
Select the options identified in the screenshot.
    Fix #2
Using iPhoto Library Manager  to Rebuild Your iPhoto Library
Download iPhoto Library Manager and launch.
Click on the Add Library button, navigate to your Home/Pictures folder and select your iPhoto Library folder.
Now that the library is listed in the left hand pane of iPLM, click on your library and go to the File ➙ Rebuild Library menu option
In the next  window name the new library and select the location you want it to be placed.
    Click on the Create button.
Note: This creates a new library based on the LIbraryData.xml file in the library and will recover Events, Albums, keywords, titles and comments but not books, calendars or slideshows. The original library will be left untouched for further attempts at fixing the problem or in case the rebuilt library is not satisfactory.
If iPhoto crashes while trying to create a new library then try this:
Make a temporary, backup copy (if you don't already have a backup copy) of the library and try the following:
1 - delete the iPhoto preference file, com.apple.iPhoto.plist, that resides in your
         User/Home()/Library/ Preferences folder.
2 - delete iPhoto's cache file, Cache.db, that is located in your
         User/Home()/Library/Caches/com.apple.iPhoto folder.
3 - launch iPhoto and try again.
NOTE: If you're moved your library from its default location in your Home/Pictures folder you will have to point iPhoto to its new location when you next open iPhoto by holding down the Option key when launching iPhoto.  You'll also have to reset the iPhoto's various preferences.
If that fails to help a reinstall of iPhoto is indicated. To do so you'll have to delete the current application and all files with "iPhoto" in the file name with either a .PKG or .BOM extension that reside in the HD/Library/Receipts folder and from the /var/db/receipts/  folder,
Then install iPhoto from the disk it came on originally and apply all relavant updaters.
P.S.  If you're still running Tiger, 10.4.6, then the above may not apply.  If you're running a newer system you should update your profile so we have a better idea of where you're at.

  • How can I open my iPhoto library after I installed a new HD?

My hard disk crashed. I got a new one installed. Now, when I sync my iPhone or open iPhoto I get:
"You can't open your photo library using this version of iPhoto.
You have made changes to your photo library using a newer version of iPhoto. Please quit and use the latest version of iPhoto."
Can this only be fixed by reinstalling Maverick? When I first installed it, my computer slowed down to 80% its usual speed and I saw no benefit.
Can I install the new version of iPhoto without having to install Maverick? If so, where can I find it to download it?

Are you running Snow Leopard or Lion?  Your info says Snow Leopard.  If it's lion then:
In Lion the Library folder is now invisible. To make it permanently visible enter the following in the Terminal application window: chflags nohidden ~/Library and hit the Enter button - 10.7: Un-hide the User Library folder.
Then you can locate the folders mentioned.

You probably have to run one or all of the IPHOTO resets/repairs over your library.   Its in IPHOTO help which keys you have to hold down while opening IPHOTO.

  • Old fonts from System 7 & Mac OS 8 & OS 9: Safe to install in 10.6.4?

I've been accumulating fonts for years and years. I recently got a new MacBook Pro and it's now running 10.6.4.
I still have, backed up on an external drive, hundreds of freeware, shareware and pro-level fonts which I acquired way back in the distant past, some as early as System 7 -- the "Date created" column says they're dated starting 1992 and every year up through 2004. (There's also about 15 System 6-era fonts in there too going back to 1989, but I think I'm just going to trash those.)
My question: Is it "safe" to install these fonts on my 10.6.4 machine? Or could the ancient fonts cause some kind of operating system meltdown or panic or whatever?
Perhaps the OS 8 & OS 9 fonts are safe, but not the System 6 and System 7 fonts?
    Or all they all safe?
And even if they are safe to install: Will they work?
Lastly: What's the best way to install them? I see a new feature in OSX which I had never noticed until now is that if one double-clicks the font icon, a "Font Book" window pops up with an optional "Install Font" button at the lower right. By clicking that button, does Font Book physically move the font file to the proper place in the OSX system? Or...?
Any advice or insight into this problem would be most appreciated. I want to have access to all my old fonts (I still have many documents which make use of them) but I don't want to mess up my fresh new 10.6.4 system. Thanks.

My question: Is it "safe" to install these fonts on my 10.6.4 machine?
    Yes.
Or could the ancient fonts cause some kind of operating system meltdown or panic or whatever?
Only if they conflict with other fonts, or are corrupt.
Perhaps the OS 8 & OS 9 fonts are safe, but not the System 6 and System 7 fonts?
Anything from System 8 forward will work. System 6 used bitmapped fonts. These are not supported in OS X. System 7 and 7.5 though were a mix. There were both TrueType and bitmapped fonts. Only the TrueType fonts can be used.
It does depend on where you're reading about these old fonts. One site notes that TrueType fonts were introduced in System 7. Another states that there were TrueType fonts in System 6.
And even if they are safe to install: Will they work?
Yes. I have tons of old fonts; Mac TrueType from OS 9 and earlier, Type 1 PS fonts from way back, etc. They all work just fine.
What's the best way to install them?
The best way actually, with Font Book, is to not install them. Which I will explain per the next part:
"Font Book" window pops up with an optional "Install Font" button at the lower right. By clicking that button, does Font Book physically move the font file to the proper place in the OSX system?
If you look in Font Book's preferences, fonts you "install" can go to either the /Library/Fonts/ folder, or by default, the Fonts folder in your user account. What you really want to do is activate fonts "in place", which is to activate them from where they are instead of creating copies. Do this by creating a Library Set in Font Book rather than a normal set. Fonts added to a Library Set are activated in place.

Is this software safe to install? I've heard so much about it and I run a very clean system. I just don't want to introduce any problems on this system. I think it runs using Java and I'm wondering if it uses Apple's built-in Java or does it install its own Java files?

Wanting to use Photoshop CS6 to open images directly from iPhoto 11.
Using OSX10.8.2 and iPhoto 11.  Just installed Photoshop CS6 and want to open
images directly from iPhoto.    Before I installed PS I was not able to edit photos
in iPhoto 11.  Nothing happens when I click on ‘edit‘ it is blank.
And now it will not work using Photoshop CS6 either.
From Help Center I have gone to iPhoto/Preferences/ Advanced and chosen Photoshop CS6  to Edit Photos but then cannot find an 'Open' to click? Perhaps this is the problem?
When I select a photo in iPhoto and click the Edit button - nothing happens.
    Please advise. Glenys

This may be of help to you:
Using Photoshop or Photoshop Elements as Your Editor of Choice in iPhoto.
1 - select Photoshop or Photoshop Elememts as your editor of choice in iPhoto's General Preference Section's under the "Edit photo:" menu.
2 - double click on the thumbnail in iPhoto to open it in Photoshop.  When you're finished editing click on the Save button. If you immediately get the JPEG Options window make your selection (Baseline standard seems to be the most compatible jpeg format) and click on the OK button. Your done.
3 - however, if you get the navigation window
that indicates that  PS wants to save it as a PS formatted file.  You'll need to either select JPEG from the menu and save (top image) or click on the desktop in the Navigation window (bottom image) and save it to the desktop for importing as a new photo.
This method will let iPhoto know that the photo has been editied and will update the thumbnail file to reflect the edit..
NOTE: With Photoshop Elements  the Saving File preferences should be configured as shown:
I also suggest the Maximize PSD File Compatabilty be set to Always.  In PSE’s General preference pane set the Color Picker to Apple as shown:
Note:  to switch between iPhoto and PS or PSE as the editor of choice Control (right)-click on the thumbnail and select either Edit in iPhoto or Edit in External Editor from the contextual menu. If you use iPhoto to edit more than PSE re-select iPhoto in the iPhoto General preference pane. Then iPhoto will be the default editor and you can use the contextual menu to select PSE for your editor when desired.
