Is iPhoto 6 compatible with iPhoto 7 files?  Can they be synchronized?

I did a search but can't find the answer so I figured I'd check with the experts...
I have a MacBook Pro with iPhoto 6 and a new iMac with iPhoto 7 installed. All my existing photos are on the laptop, but I'd like to sync them with the iMac. What are the options?
I have ChronoSync synchronizing software, which I haven't used yet, to sync some document files. Ideally I'd like to sync the two computers and have all photos available on both, but the issue is whether I can sync the 2 different versions of iPhoto in a functional way, and if so how? It seems the iPhoto library on version 7 is not simply a folder as it is in version 6.
Otherwise, if I upgrade to iPhoto 7 on the laptop, would I then be able to do this?
Thanks every and anyone!

From http://www.econtechnologies.com/site/Pages/ChronoSync/chrono_tips12.html
ChronoSync can keep iPhoto on two Macs in sync but it can not merge data together.
When you "back up" iPhoto from one computer to the other, is that backup a functional one, i.e. one that gets inserted into the iPhoto databases or whatever on that new computer, or is it something I would have to manually import into iPhoto after deleting it's existing database? How do you do it?
The back up, assuming you back up the library in it's entirety, will be completely functional. But it will NOT take account of changes in the other library, it'll just overwrite it.
You can move pics -and associated metadata between libraries using iPhoto Library Manager. But this is not automated, nor is it a back up application.
What both iPhoto and iTunes allow is Sharing Libraries - where one user can allow other Users to See (or hear) a library, but not allow the sharing person to alter the library.
The alternative is really to get a media server app - rather more expensive.

  • Are .dng files compatible with iPhoto?

I recently purchased a Panasonic Lumix dmg G2 camera. I have iPhoto '09 on my iMac, running OS 10.6.8. I was unable to load the RAW images from this camera to iPhoto, so I converted them to .dng files. I even downloaded the latest version of the dng Converter, but I am still unable to download them to iPhoto. I get the following error message:
    "Unreadable Files: 1
The following file could not be imported. (The file is in an unrecognized format.)"
I am pretty sure I was able to download .dng files in the past. Has something changed, or are .dng files just not compatible with iPhoto?
    JB

Not all dng-files are alike. I have used dng with iPhoto before, without problems. I could not find any documentation for dng in iPhoto, but for Aperture it is documented that dng works for  "DNG files generated by the Adobe DNG Converter with the 'Convert to Linear Image' option turned off". Probably the same will hold for iPhoto.

  • How do I get a free version of iPhoto compatible with Mac OS 10.8.5?

After upgrading to Mac OS 10.8.5, my previous version of iPhoto would not work. I have since trashed the non working version of iPhoto. The available free download versions of iPhoto will not work with Mac OS 10.8.5. How can I get a free download version of iPhoto compatible with 10.8.5 without purchasing a new copy??

There is no free upgrade for Mountain Lion. The free upgrade is only for Mavericks.
The iWork apps are free with a new iOS device since 1 SEP 2013. They are free with a new Mac since 1 OCT 2013. They are also free with the upgrade to OS X Mavericks 10.9 if you had the previous version installed when you upgraded.

  • What photo printers are compatible with iPhoto '08?

On Apple's support site, they list the printer drivers that Leopard comes with, but I'm finding that just because Leopard comes with the driver, that doesn't necessarily mean the printer is compatible with iPhoto... unless my research has mislead me.
What iPhoto-compatible printers are you all using, or which photo printers do you recommend?
    Thanks,

  • USB monitor not compatible with iPhoto or Maps?

My AOC USB display will not show photos in iPhoto (other than thumbnails), nor will it show maps in the Maps app.  The manufacturer tells me this is something Apple needs to remedy.  Does anyone know of a third party solution?  I've heard there is some kind of hardware USB graphics adapter but I don't know if that will solve this problem.

    Peter:
Do you have a memory card in the phone that you can transfer the photos to? If so, you can get an inexpensive card reader and use it. That's how I get photos from my LG onto my HD.
    Do you Twango?
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've written an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. It's compatible with iPhoto 08 libraries. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.

  • PHP photo galleries that are compatible with iPhoto?

I don't have MobileMe, but I do have a personal web site running PHP and would like to publish my photo albums on my web site as a good place to store them. Does anyone have any recommendations for the best PHP photo gallery software (preferably free) **that is compatible with iPhoto**?
Of course I can always export everything out of iPhoto and then import them into ANY photo gallery software, but I'm hoping there's a good one out there that does have iPhoto support.

  • Is iphoto compatible with photoshop?

    is iphoto compatible with photoshop

    Yes:
Using Photoshop CS3 or Photoshop Elements 9 as Your Editor of Choice in iPhoto.
1 - select Photoshop as your editor of choice in iPhoto's Advanced Preference Section's under the "Edit photo:" menu.
2 - double click on the thumbnail in iPhoto to open it in Photoshop.  When you're finished editing click on the Save button. If you immediately get the JPEG Options window make your selection (Baseline standard seems to be the most compatible jpeg format) and click on the OK button. Your done.
3 - however, if you get the navigation window
that indicates that  PS wants to save it as a PS formatted file.  You'll need to either select JPEG from the menu and save (top image) or click on the desktop in the Navigation window (bottom image) and save it to the desktop for importing as a new photo.
This method will let iPhoto know that the photo has been edited and will update the thumbnail file to reflect the edit..
NOTE: With Photoshop Elements 9 the Saving File preferences should be configured as shown:
s  I also suggest the Maximize PSD File Compatibility be set to Always.  In PSE’s General preference pane set the Color Picker to Apple as shown:
NOTE: If you want to use both iPhoto's editing mode and PS/PSE without having to go back and forth to the Preference pane, once you've selected PS as your editor of choice, reset the Preferences back to "Edit Photos:  in iPhoto".  That will let you either edit in iPhoto using the Edit button or Control-clicking on the thumbnail and selecting "Edit in iPhoto" or in PS/PSE by Control-clicking on the thumbnail and selecting "Edit in External Editor" in the Contextual menu.
This way you get the best of both worlds.
NOTE: Currently there is a bug in iPhoto 11 when using PS or PSE to edit a .png, .tiff or .psd file in iPhoto.  iPhoto makes a duplicate copy of the file, saves it as a .jpg file and tried to open it for editing.  Since the .jpg is the wrong extension for those three file types an error message is generated.
However, editing .jpg files with PS in iPhoto works.

  • Olympus Evolt E-500 Digital SLR is compatible with iPhoto?

Does anyone know if the Olympus Evolt E-500 Digital SLR is compatible with iPhoto ( I do not want to have to use Olympus software)? I know it is not listed on the official Apple list but am curious if anyone could speak from experience. I am looking at purchasing a digital SLR and am considering the Evolt E-500 but would like to understand its compatibility with iPhoto.
    iMac G5   Mac OS X (10.3.9)

RAW ORF files will not work as of yet. JPEG and TIFF are okay. I have CS2 and had to download a RAW beta from Adobe to process my RAW files. I knw that my friend had problems with CR2 files (Canon 350D) when Tiger was at 10.4.2. He would see the thumbnails in finder column view but Preview and iPhoto before the last update would not work. When 10.4.3 came all is well; so I ma hoping 10.4.4 will let us use ORF RAW files fromour E500. If you get a chance check out the forums at www.dpreview.com and the Olympus DSLR forum and the MAC tools forum. When I got my E500 I started shooting RAW right away. You will find more control in processing the the RAW to jpeg. Hope this helps.

  • How to make iPhoto compatible with OS X Yosemite

How can I make iPhoto compatible with OS X Yosemite? I can't seem to find an update.

If you have an older version of iPhoto, you'll need to download the latest version from the App Store - you won't see updates in the Updates tab. You can search for and download it - it's free.

  • How do I find out if my camera is compatible with iphoto?

I don't really know much about cameras or iphoto so I need to find out if my camera is compatible with iphoto. It's a panasonic that is a few years old. Where do I go to find this out?

    skittlesdrummer219
    Here's a non-complete list
    http://www.appleclub.com.hk/iphoto/compatibility/camera.html
which mentions no Panasonics at all. However, I'm in the process of buying one because even if the camera won't directly connect with iPhoto, I can use a USB card reader - which I actually prefer - to load the pics into iPhoto.
    Two things to try:
    1. Connect your Camera to your Mac and switch the camera on. Does iPhoto Launch? Does the Camera show up as a disk on the desktop?
    2. Take the card from the camera and pop it into a Card reader attached to your Mac. Does it show on the desktop as a disk?
IF your Mac can see the Camera Card in either scenario, you can use it with iPhoto.
