Is Ipod photo compatible with USB 1.1?

Can Ipod photo be used on older style PC with usb 1.1? I notice on the requirements for Ipod photo that you need USB 2.0.

Hello James, welcome to discussions.
You can use USB 1.1... but it will be rather slow to transfer files.
What type of computer do you own? I would recommend that you install a Firewire card if you can, and use that.
The Adaptec Fireconnect 4300 card would only run about $40 and it would work great with your iPod.

  • Zen Sleek Photo - Compatible with iPod accessories

I can't seem to find the accessories for my Zen Sleek Photo that I've had for a couple of years. I didn't jump on the iPod band wagon because I didn't care for iTunes. My main question is that are the iPod accessories compatible with my Zen Sleek Photo I'm looking for a docking system with speakers for my Zen Sleek Photo.

The Zen Sleek Photo does NOT have a USB port but has a slot that is similar to what Apple iPod(s) use (40 GB - 80 GB iPods - not Nano & other Apple mp3 players.
when I wrote USB port, I meant that whole long slot as that's the USB portion you connect to your computer..... I thought you be clever enough to understand...hmm...nvm....Message Edited by justaguy on 2-03-200703:37 AM

  • Compatible with USB 1.1?

I have an old G4 and before buying a new 4th gen nano, I want to be sure it's backwards compatible with USB 1.1. I know that transferring data will be excruciatingly slow, but I want to be sure I can connect it to my Mac.

I have no first hand experience, but traditionally all iPods up to the new ones just announces have all worked on USB1.1 ports. I assume (but do not know for sure) that the new ones will also continue to work with slow USB1.1 ports.
I was just looking at the new Classic user guide and there is a mention of... "Note: A USB 2.0 port is recommended to connect iPod classic. USB 1.1 is significantly slower than USB 2.0." so I assume the same holds true for the new Nanos.
Yep, just checked. In the Nano user guide...
    http://manuals.info.apple.com/enUS/iPod_nano_4th_genUserGuide.pdf
on page 65 (chapter 7) same quote. So you look good to go. Although there have been errors in the past with Apple's new manuals which had to then be updated. Hopefully this isn't one of them.

  • Ipod classic compatible with Vista Home Premium 64 bit

    Hi,
Is the Ipod Classic compatible with Windows Vista Home Premium 64 bit?
I found out the hard way that the Itouch is not!
    Greetings,
    Miguel

If I could I would answer your question.
But I do not know how I did that.
Itunes has been working since day 1 on my 64 bit machine, only problem is that it takes half a minute to copy album cover art to song in itunes, the computer is hanging for 15 seconds before the album cover art is copied.
I just took the Ipod out of the box and connected it to the computer and it worked fine.
Only problem that I had yesterday is that when I'm intergrating album cover art my hard disk is doing strange things.
Just yesterday, my RAID 1 was corrupted by Itunes, first hard disk 1 was failing and an hour later hard disk 2 also crashed.
Was able to reconnect them into RAID 1, luckilly.

  • Ipod not compatible with os 10.3.9

I purchased a new ipod nano and it is unable to run on my system.
I currently have a g4 desktop running 10.3.9 with itunes 7.4. I am looking to replace my nano 1st generation since the battery life does not last very long. Right now I can’t purchase a new computer and have two options I was considering. I am kind of lost on what to do next. I was thinking about installing more memory and upgrading to leopard. The problem with this is the software I have will not be compatible. I was also thinking about buying a later model ipod or ipod. Does anyone know the most recent used model that would be compatible with my system.

    Hello cdigi24,
    And welcome to Apple Discussions!
The determine what iPods are compatible with your system, I would check out this page below from Apple. You can look through each model's minimum requirements. Should help you find your answer. Hope it helps.

are ipod video compatible with the original ihome? help

If you are talking about this...
    http://www.ihomeaudio.com/products.asp?productid=10015&deptid=1003
    Or the black model.
    Then yes.
I am using my 5G iPod with video with that model.
To prevent damage to the dock connector on your iPod, you may want to get this...
    http://www.ihomeaudio.com/products.asp?productid=10016&deptid=1000
Keep in mind that I am using it with the newer models of that model. (Mine had an iPod nano compatible sticker on it and came with a remote). I would imagine that it works fine with the older model of that one as well.
But yes, if you are talking about the iH5, it works :)

  • Is The iPod Touch Backward Compatible With USB 1.1 Connections?

Hi. I intend to get the iPod Touch soon. But, before I make the leap, I'd like to know whether the iPod Touch is backward compatible with my older USB 1.1 connections. Any help will be appreciated here. Thank you.

    Hello Castlegard,
As mentioned, the Minimum System Requirements for the iPod Touch does specify USB 2.0, see the requirements here:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1323
While it is theoretically possible to sync over a USB 1.1 connection, your mileage may vary. Consider that USB 1.1 has a transfer rate of 12Mbit/sec, where USB 2.0 is 480Mbit/sec, so USB 2.0 is basically 40x faster. Transferring small files may succeed, but when you try to get iTunes to update or restore an iPod Touch, it will be trying to push a 300MB file (approximately) through a 12Mbit pipe. Trying to do updates or restore via USB 1.1 will often result in iTunes timing out before the process is complete.
If I were to try to sync a 1.5GB movie over a USB 1.1 connection, I could probably go to downtown Sydney and have a nice dinner and attend a concert at the Sydney Opera House and still get back before the sync was complete. BTW, I live in California...
If your computer is a desktop tower, upgrading to USB 2.0 is a relatively inexpensive proposition. If you are not a handy person with a phillips screwdriver or electical devices, most computer dealers or resellers will install for a nominal fee.

  • 40GB iPod Photo came with FW cable, doesn't work with FW cable

I have a 40GB iPod photo that I love. I bought another (used) one for my wife, being careful to get the identical model so we could share things such as docks, cables, etc.
Her iPod works fine with the USB cable, but will only charge with the FW cable -- no computer can see her iPod through FW. I've reset the iPod, updated it with the iPod updater, but nothing. When I connect her iPod to any of my Macs (her 12" iBook, my 12" PowerBook, my G5 iMac) with FW, the iPod appears to be charging, but is not detected by the computer, nor are any of the iPod controls usable. It doesn't go to the "do not disconnect" screen, but simply freezes where it is until the FW cable is disconnected.
Specifics: both iPod Photos are the 40GB model M9585LL, version 1.2.1. The 2nd one CAME WITH a FW cable, which is why I'm puzzled that it won't work with it. Help?

Here is some info for the pinout for the iPod.
    http://www.anythingbutipod.com/archives/2006/04/zen-vision-m-video-cable-other-4 pole-35mm-pinouts.php
You need to find the pinout of the camera cable you have.
Probably be easier to get get an AV cable with a 3.5mm plug to (whatever fits into your TV) cable.
Usually, you simply have to swap the Red and the Yellow for it to work properly.
