Is iPod Shuffle corrupting songs or what?

I have this 2th gen iPod Shuffle I've been using for about four+ years. My problem is that some songs now sound corrupted. One, for instance, plays a few seconds then starts to make noises at some points. Others play a few seconds then jump to the middle then jump to the end or near and suddenly are finished.
I deleted the first example song above from iTunes (Windows) and copied a "working version" of it, that is, without the noises. But when I played it with my iPod Shuffle it was again with the very same noises.
What is wrong? Is iPod Shuffle corrupting songs or what?
BTW, is there a way to fix stuff like that in iTunes or other Apple software? Is some sort of defragmentation possible?
TIA for your attention and help.

Try to connect your iPod to computer, open iTunes, select your iPod and click Restore (the process will take some time). If songs still sound corrupted after the restore, most likely iPod flash memory is bad due to wear.

That's how it is supposed to work.  The library on your Shuffle is set to mirror your iTunes library on your PC or Mac.  So if you add some music and configure to sync to the Shuffle, removing it from iTunes, would also remove it from your Shuffle.
The only way to avoid this is to set up the Shuffle for manual management. See the appropriate section in this Apple support document on how to manually manage your iPod's contents.

  • IPod is corrupt: songs won't sync correctly

So, I got my girlfriend an iPod Classic for Christmas and she said that iTunes keeps telling her to restore her iPod every time she plugs it in to sync music. She said that she has restored three times. She thought it was broken so she gave it to me to fix. I recently found out that she was running an old version of iTunes, I think like version 7 or something. When I tried to sync it with my library it worked until I got to about 2000 songs out of 6000 and it gave me a 1303 error and said that the iPod was corrupt. I'm not sure if it's the hard drive since stuff can be put on it. Is it possible for her old version of iTunes to be the cause of the problem?

The exact thing has happened to me as well. I plugged my ipod into the usb port of a computer at my university (to just charge the battery) without realizing that itunes was not installed on there. Since then, each time I attempt to restore my ipod I get something that says "There was a problem downloading the ipod software for the iPod 'iPod'. The requested resouce was not found." I don't know what to do, I have latest versions of both itunes and the ipod software.

  • I can't find Buds that work for IPod shuffle third gen./What's wrong with what I have now?

I own an IPod shuffle third gen. However, the remote buds broke a little while back, and I've been trying to find a good pair online. In the most recent pair I bought, the volume control only works on my IPad 2, not my shuffle. Is this an iPod issue, Ora shoddy ebay earbud issue?

It looks like there is a CommunicationException while trying
to talk to the LDAP server. Please check the SocketPermission
entry in the jmqadmin.policy file to ensure network permission
to the LDAP server host/port is granted. If the jmqadmin.policy
file looks OK, I'd suggest to try a simple JNDI example which
talks to the LDAP server to see if communication to the LDAP

  • Itunes closes when I plug in my ipod shuffle. Any ideas what to do?

I have been using my shuffle with this computer for about 5 years now and haven't had a problem until today. Now when I plug in the shuffle using USB port itunes shuts down. It doesn't have this problem with our ipod touch. I tried a different cable but that didn't fix it.

  • Ipod shuffle 512mb song capacity

I have a 512 mb shuffle. i can only load about 75 songs on it. they are already at 128kbps. how do i know if they have been converted to the AAC format? If not converted, how do I do it? I'd love to be able to have 120 songs on it! Thanks!

    how do i
know if they have been converted to the AAC format?
Open iTunes. Navigate to one of the files in question and right-click on the song's name. Select 'Get Info" then the 'Summary' button.
If not converted, how do I do it? I'd love to be
able to have 120 songs on it! Thanks!
How many you can fit, of course, will depend on the size of the file. Apple's advertised numbers are based on 4-minute songs, as I recall.
Converting the files (if necessary, and if you really want to) would involve going into the iTunes preferences, the Import pane, and selecting AAC as the file type. Then selecting the files to be converted, click 'Advanced" from the iTunes menubar, and 'Convert to AAC'. (This will give you new files in addition to the originals.)
I've never tried this and can't vouch for the quality of the results. Applying lossy compression to a file which has already been compressed lossily (which isn't quite a word), particularly at such a low bit rate, may not provide thw most listenable results.
    Goof luck, though

  • Can't transfer files to iPod Shuffle since latest iTunes update

AFAIK, the only way to add a file such as a song or podcast to my ipod shuffle is to right-click the file and scroll down to 'Add to Playlist' and then there should be an icon for the ipod shuffle there among the playlists. But since the lates update, even though it is connected, the icon does not appear, and so I have no way to add specific tracks to my ipod shuffle.
    Anyone know what to do?

I tried another way but it didn't work. I tried to autofill from a playlist, but I got a message saying that autofill didn't work because no files in the playlist can be transferred to the ipod.
Now I'm going to try restoring it to the factory settings. This is really annoying.

  • Ipod shuffle lifespan 2nd generation

Whats the average life span of a Ipod Shuffle 2nd generation? what I mean is how long should the battery last and charge for before it compleatly dies.

I've had my 2g Shuffle for not quite a year... I use it exclusively for fitness purposes, so it's only used when I'm at the gym or out on a run, etc. It's typically on for an hour, maybe two, at a time. I can use it for probably 2 weeks (depending on frequency of use, of course) before my orange light starts up and I start to worry it might shut off on me. I also keep it in my car 90% of the time, so it does get hot/cold, etc.
No problems with it whatsoever. Apple says you should get 12 hours of life per charge. Not sure of the entire lifespan of the device...guessing that will vary based on your usage habits, how it's stored, etc. I'll use mine til it refuses to turn on anymore.

  • TS1412 My iPod shuffle periodically skips across multiple songs...playing a song or two and then jumping forward or back multiple songs after playing only moments of a song. Please tell me what I can do to fix this. Thanks

My iPod shuffle periodically skips across multiple songs...playing a song or two in full and then jumping forward or back multiple songs after playing only moments of a song. Please tell me what I can do to fix this situation. Thank you very much.

This is in regards to a 4th gen 40gb clickwheel ipod.
Hi, i've also been having a very similar problem with my ipod as well. I find that regardless of which windows-based pc i use (either my xp laptop @ home, or my win2000 desktop @ work) windows and itunes refuses to recognise my ipod. In windows explorer it will show it as a removable drive, but if i click on it, windows freezes. If I try to disconnect it, I cant because windows keeps reporting that 'the device is being used, try disconnecting later' and so then i shut down my laptop to disconnect it safely.
Lately, like you, i've also noticed that clicking sound it makes. It happens when i connect my ipod to my computer - like the drive inside it is constantly restarting or something, and i get it when i'm playing / charging it in my dock. I've also noticed that when it's playing whilst charging, it just freezes on a song, then skips a couple of songs.
I've just discovered the disgnostic tools on my ipod, so i think i'll run a couple of tests (ie HDD scan) and depending on the outcome, i'll go visit the apple store.

Try the following to rule out a software problem:
    - Reset the iOS device. Nothing will be lost
Reset iOS device: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Power off and then back on the router
    - Reset network settings: Settings>General>Reset>Reset Network Settings
    - iOS: Troubleshooting Wi-Fi networks and connections
    - iOS: Recommended settings for Wi-Fi routers and access points
    - Restore from backup. See:
    iOS: How to back up
    - Restore to factory settings/new iOS device.
If still problem make an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store since it appears you have a hardware problem.

  • My ipod touch 4th gen stops shuffling at song 12 repeat and shuffle bars are blue - what could be wrong

my ipod touch 4th gen stops shuffling at song 12, and the music stops all together, does not go to next song - I am playing my ipod on my Bose system  -  the repeat and shuffle bars remain blue - it only occurs on this particular playlist -Note:  I created this playlist on my ipad - the first ipad out - with icloud it is on my ipod as well -  I am totally baffled - and have checked settings, etc - do you think i need to connect to computer to sync?  Please help

While playing any song on your iPod, tap the artwork to bring up the scrubber bar and additional controls. On the left hand side is a option for repeat. You want to make sure this icon is white (meaning it is set to Off). If it isn't tap it either one or two times to change its current setting.
    Any luck there?
