Is IR receiver 5189-0959 Rev B equivalent to IR receiver 492936-001 Rev A?
I have a IR receiver P/N 492936-001 Rev A. It works with windows 7 and windows 8 and all 5 of my computers with TV cards. I purchased several IR receivers, P/N 5189-0959 Rev B that were supposed to be equivalent. They look almost identical. The Rev A receiver has some clear plastic on part of the end. The other cables appear much darker. I believe the sensor is the slight round bulge on the end of the sensor.
They will not work with any of 5 computers. Both or these cables have a red cover on the plug and four connections on the plug. These cables plug into the rear short panel on desktop machines that have a TV card installed and the rear panel with three jacks. Two are black and one is red. The black connections are for IR blasters to control other IR devices.
Are the two IR receivers compatible or do they have some wiring difference?
I have used USB receivers with all of the computers and they work fine with all my remotes.
Has anyone used the P/N 5189-0959 Rev B succesfully?
Thanks for your reply laloch. Just edited my lirc.fdi and did a reboot.
Anyway my remote still behaves like a keyboard. But:

Maybe I have to ignore something else? Full lshal here:

[concluded] Enabling SLI (Lenovo Ideapad y500 / dual gt 650m)
final edit:
Apparently there is no support for sli on mobile nvidia gpu. Thank you ever so much Nvidia, you willf orever hold a special place in my heart..
I've miracously gotten everything else to work. Only thing left is enabling sli, which I haven't been able to.
As far as I know, I've follow the instruction to the letter, but all I get i a black screen and a log with no particular useful information that I can find:

[ 17.131] (WW) NVIDIA(GPU-0): for troubleshooting suggestions.
In the end, all that I can learn from this is that stuff don't work, not why or how to fix it. A bit annoying to be blunt.
I've been googling around for answers, but the closest thing I've come to an answer, and I do hope it isn't true, is that sli om mobile nvidia gpu is not supported under linux. I've been unable to confirm this.
I do hope you can help.
Best regards.

Do not do this.
If you want help, start providing relevant information beyond "it don't work". You say you followed the instructions ... which instructions? What steps did you take? It is clear from your xorg.conf that you did not follow the only instructions I could find in the archlinux wiki. Follow those instructions, and post the output of the relevant diagnostic or information-gathering steps included there.
Also if you have information which could be useful - such as which mobile devices/cards allegedly don't work - then share that. Don't keep us in the dark.
I should think that it's quite obvious that I've followed the wiki instruction, which basically is one line in xorg, as is the official nvidia instructions.
This is most likely a problem related specificlally to the gt 650m and/or the lenovo ideapad y500 (and perhaps derivatives thereof).
I do not believe I've left any information out.
Of course if I've done something wrong, I apologize and will do my best to avoid it in the future. As for the rest, I'd very much like to know which instructions I did not follow, as I've done all that I can think of and telling me that I haven't is hardly useful. As far as I aware, the wiki instructs you to ad two line in the xorg.conf, which I've done. I will of course read it again, hoping to figure out what I've apparently missed, though I've read it so many times already that I don't expect to learn anything. -

Last edited by pivotraze (2014-02-03 18:56:40)@WonderWoofy,@karol, sorry I made my previous reply a bit hasty, so the point may not have come out very clear.
What I think is going on, is that even though you have disabled audio power saving via modprobe.conf, when TLP runs (after modprobe), it enables audio power saving again by its default configuration.
you can test this by checking /sys/module/snd_hda_intel/parameters/power_save after enabling audio power saving for, and restarting TLP
I don't know if that is worth adding to the wiki, since this is sort of a special case, and if people are using scripts like TLP they should already understand what it is doing.
happy to hear that my suggestion seemed to fix your issue :) -
[Solved] Samsung SCX-4300 Printer Problem
Hi everyone. I installed Arch Linux today. Everything is fine except printer. I am using Samsung SCX-4300 printer and scanner. Scanner works fine but CUPS doesn't see the printer. I can't see anything on CUPS web interface's Local Printers area. Here is a screenshot.
I can see my printer in lsusb command:
Bus 002 Device 004: ID 062a:0201 Creative Labs Defender Office Keyboard (K7310) S Zodiak KM-9010
Bus 002 Device 003: ID 04e8:342e Samsung Electronics Co., Ltd

Bus 002 Device 001: ID 1d6b:0002 Linux Foundation 2.0 root hub
Bus 001 Device 004: ID 046d:c52b Logitech, Inc. Unifying Receiver
Bus 001 Device 003: ID 046d:08d7 Logitech, Inc. QuickCam Communicate STX
Bus 001 Device 002: ID 8087:0020 Intel Corp. Integrated Rate Matching Hub
Bus 001 Device 001: ID 1d6b:0002 Linux Foundation 2.0 root hub
So why I can not see my printer and how can I fix that?
Last edited by DoGuKaN (2013-07-30 20:13:21)I have a very similar printer (SCX-4500W) and found that I was able to get it working as a printer but that I could not get both print and scan functions to work at the same time.
In order to get the printer going I had to add a file to /etc/udev/rules.d/71-scx4500w.rules with the content as a single line:
ATTR{idVendor}=="04e8", ATTR{idProduct}=="342b", MODE:="0664", GROUP:="lp", ENV{libsane_matched}:="yes"
You will need to change the idVendor and idProduct in the line above to match that for your own printer from the lsusb command instead of those above for the SCX-4500W.
I would also suggest that you use the splix drivers package - i.e. make sure that the splix package is installed with:
# pacman -S splix
Then when you add the printer select the splix drivers which will work with that printer (you should check the splix support page to check your printer is supported but I am pretty sure it is)
Once that is done then you need to start the cups.socket daemon with the following command as root (exclude the # which is the prompt)
# systemctl start cups.socket
and if it then works, and allows you to add the printer, then you also need to "enable" the same daemon so that it starts after the next boot as well:
# systemctl enable cups.socket
One other thing is that if you want your printer to be discoverable as a cups remote printer on your local network you will need avahi-daemon running on the server to which the printer is attached, as well as on any machine which needs to see it - check the arch wiki on how to set that up if you need it.
I hope this helps. -
[SOLVED]Modem-manager won't start with Network manager
Hi,
I have a problem with getting modem-manager work under gnome. After first Arch install to this laptop, Network manager didn't show my 3G-modem, so I installed modem-manager and usb_modeswitch. Modem is Huawei E367 and it works well with wvdial. Only problem is to get it working with Network manager.
From output of dmesg I see that there is an error, when Network manager is trying to start modem-manager:
[ 3224.705193] do_trap: 322 callbacks suppressed

From /var/log/messages.log I found also something:
Apr 14 16:02:14 localhost NetworkManager[713]: <info> trying to start the modem manager...
Apr 14 16:02:14 localhost dbus[651]: [system] Activating service name='org.freedesktop.ModemManager' (using servicehelper)

Apr 14 16:02:14 localhost modem-manager: libhal_ctx_init() failed: (null)
Apr 14 16:02:14 localhost NetworkManager[713]: <info> the modem manager disappeared
If I try to run modem-manager manually with debug:
$ sudo modem-manager --debug
** ERROR **: libhal_ctx_init() failed: (null)
Make sure the hal daemon is running?
So it seems to be because of hal isn't running, if I try to start hal daemon it fails:
$ sudo /etc/rc.d/hal start
:: Starting Hardware Abstraction Layer [FAIL]
I also tried to start hal at boot by putting it to DAEMONS in rc.conf. but didn't start either.
The laptop is Asus X61SL with x86_64 version of ArchLinux.
Kernel: 3.3.1-1-ARCH
Would be cool if anyone can solve this.

It didn't help. Network manager doesn't show anything related 3G.
I don't think it's usb_modeswitch since 3G stick works great with wvdial on same system. Could it be a bug on modem-manager?
I start only the Network manager on boot, but while Network manager tries to start modem-manager, it throws error continuously in dmesg. Error is the same as in first post. -
A question about call manager traces for Sip phones.
So today I create a sip based ip communicator and pressed the new call button and heard a dial tone. I started typing my telephone number. Half way through, I heard another secondary dial tone (which indicates mis-configured route pattern somewhere) .
However, When I look at the call manager logs, I do not actually see the digits that I was typing. With SCCP, I can see the keypad button press messages in the traces, but here, I cannot see the pressed buttons in my CUCM traces. Can anyone help with telling me how I can see button presses going to call manager . All I can see are the logs below which came up as soon as I got the dial tone and the final sip invite messages. I see nothing in-between.

SAMPLE RECEIVING OPEN INTERFACE SCRIPT(ROI 이용자를 위한 SCRIPT)
================================================================
PURPOSE
Receiving Open Interface(ROI)를 좀더 쉽게 사용할 수 있도록 만들어진
tool이라고 할 수 있다. 이 script를 이용을 통해 user는 PO no, user id,
Org id를 입력하면 script는 PO에서 최소한의 data를 가져와 receiving
transaction을 생성하기 위해 ROI에 data를 입력한다.
Receiving Transaction Processor는 insert 된 data를 실행한다.
Explanation
Instructions:
1.Script exroi.sql을 local computer에 copy 하거나 sqlplus 환경의 text
edior에 script 내용을 cut&paste 한다.
2.사용가능한 PO no, User id, Org id를 결정한다.
3.sqlplus prompt에서 아래와 같이 입력한다.
SQL> @ezroi.sql
4.PO no, User id, Org id를 입력하라는 prompt를 볼 수 있을 것이다.
5.exroi.sql script를 관련된 PO data를 가져와 rcv_headers_interface 및
rcv_transactions_interface tables에 insert 한다.

Note 245334.1I have the same problem on ESXI 5.5 for over a month now, tried the patches, tried the LTS kernel which others say results in an immediate result without patches, nothing seems to work and nobody seems to be able to offer a solution.
Did you make any progress ??

Unable to receive email consistently from AOL
Trying to track down a MAJOR problem, I have a client that I support that runs 10.6 server and it is the mail server etc.. What is occuring is that AOL cannot consistently deliver email to our server... I get various types of messages in mail.log (paste below).. usually Timeout after CONNECT but sometimes Timeout after EHLO.... I have disabled greylisting and increased the default_process_limit to 400 in main.cf
My client is getting VERY angry because a big client of theirs insists on using AOL because that's all he knows.. We are NOT having any issues receiving mail from anyone except AOL.com I have (ugh) created a free AOL.com account and attempted to send messages, getting the same things. Once in awhile they do get through but mostly I get the below.
Appreciate ANY insight...
Log stuffs:

Postfix config file follows:
# Global Postfix configuration file. This file lists only a subset
# of all parameters. For the syntax, and for a complete parameter
# list, see the postconf(5) manual page (command: "man 5 postconf").
# For common configuration examples, see BASIC_CONFIGURATION_README
# and STANDARD_CONFIGURATION_README. To find these documents, use
# the command "postconf html_directory readme_directory", or go to
# http://www.postfix.org/.
# For best results, change no more than 2-3 parameters at a time,
# and test if Postfix still works after every change.
# SOFT BOUNCE
# The soft_bounce parameter provides a limited safety net for
# testing. When soft_bounce is enabled, mail will remain queued that
# would otherwise bounce. This parameter disables locally-generated
# bounces, and prevents the SMTP server from rejecting mail permanently
# (by changing 5xx replies into 4xx replies). However, soft_bounce
# is no cure for address rewriting mistakes or mail routing mistakes.
#soft_bounce = no
# LOCAL PATHNAME INFORMATION
# The queue_directory specifies the location of the Postfix queue.
# This is also the root directory of Postfix daemons that run chrooted.
# See the files in examples/chroot-setup for setting up Postfix chroot
# environments on different UNIX systems.
queue_directory = /private/var/spool/postfix
# The command_directory parameter specifies the location of all
# postXXX commands.
command_directory = /usr/sbin
# The daemon_directory parameter specifies the location of all Postfix
# daemon programs (i.e. programs listed in the master.cf file). This
# directory must be owned by root.
daemon_directory = /usr/libexec/postfix
# QUEUE AND PROCESS OWNERSHIP
# The mail_owner parameter specifies the owner of the Postfix queue
# and of most Postfix daemon processes. Specify the name of a user
# account THAT DOES NOT SHARE ITS USER OR GROUP ID WITH OTHER ACCOUNTS
# AND THAT OWNS NO OTHER FILES OR PROCESSES ON THE SYSTEM. In
# particular, don't specify nobody or daemon. PLEASE USE A DEDICATED
# USER.
mail_owner = _postfix
# The default_privs parameter specifies the default rights used by

# INTERNET HOST AND DOMAIN NAMES

# other configuration parameters.
#myhostname = host.domain.tld
#myhostname = virtual.domain.tld

# SENDING MAIL
# The myorigin parameter specifies the domain that locally-posted
# mail appears to come from. The default is to append $myhostname,
# which is fine for small sites. If you run a domain with multiple
# machines, you should (1) change this to $mydomain and (2) set up
# a domain-wide alias database that aliases each user to
# [email protected].
# For the sake of consistency between sender and recipient addresses,
# myorigin also specifies the default domain name that is appended
# to recipient addresses that have no @domain part.
#myorigin = $myhostname
#myorigin = $mydomain
# RECEIVING MAIL
# The inet_interfaces parameter specifies the network interface
# addresses that this mail system receives mail on. By default,
# the software claims all active interfaces on the machine. The
# parameter also controls delivery of mail to user@[ip.address].
# See also the proxy_interfaces parameter, for network addresses that
# are forwarded to us via a proxy or network address translator.
# Note: you need to stop/start Postfix when this parameter changes.
#inet_interfaces = all
#inet_interfaces = $myhostname
#inet_interfaces = $myhostname, localhost
# The proxy_interfaces parameter specifies the network interface
# addresses that this mail system receives mail on by way of a
# proxy or network address translation unit. This setting extends
# the address list specified with the inet_interfaces parameter.
# You must specify your proxy/NAT addresses when your system is a
# backup MX host for other domains, otherwise mail delivery loops
# will happen when the primary MX host is down.
#proxy_interfaces =
#proxy_interfaces = 1.2.3.4
# The mydestination parameter specifies the list of domains that this
# machine considers itself the final destination for.
# These domains are routed to the delivery agent specified with the
# local_transport parameter setting. By default, that is the UNIX
# compatible delivery agent that lookups all recipients in /etc/passwd
# and /etc/aliases or their equivalent.
# The default is $myhostname + localhost.$mydomain. On a mail domain
# gateway, you should also include $mydomain.
# Do not specify the names of virtual domains - those domains are
# specified elsewhere (see VIRTUAL_README).
# Do not specify the names of domains that this machine is backup MX
# host for. Specify those names via the relay_domains settings for
# the SMTP server, or use permit_mx_backup if you are lazy (see
# STANDARD_CONFIGURATION_README).
# The local machine is always the final destination for mail addressed
# to user@[the.net.work.address] of an interface that the mail system
# receives mail on (see the inet_interfaces parameter).

# REJECTING MAIL FOR UNKNOWN LOCAL USERS
# The local_recipient_maps parameter specifies optional lookup tables
# with all names or addresses of users that are local with respect
# to $mydestination, $inet_interfaces or $proxy_interfaces.
# If this parameter is defined, then the SMTP server will reject
# mail for unknown local users. This parameter is defined by default.
# To turn off local recipient checking in the SMTP server, specify
# local_recipient_maps = (i.e. empty).
# The default setting assumes that you use the default Postfix local
# delivery agent for local delivery. You need to update the
# local_recipient_maps setting if:
# - You define $mydestination domain recipients in files other than
# /etc/passwd, /etc/aliases, or the $virtual_alias_maps files.
# For example, you define $mydestination domain recipients in
# the $virtual_mailbox_maps files.
# - You redefine the local delivery agent in master.cf.
# - You redefine the "local_transport" setting in main.cf.
# - You use the "luser_relay", "mailbox_transport", or "fallback_transport"
# feature of the Postfix local delivery agent (see local(8)).
# Details are described in the LOCAL_RECIPIENT_README file.
# Beware: if the Postfix SMTP server runs chrooted, you probably have
# to access the passwd file via the proxymap service, in order to
# overcome chroot restrictions. The alternative, having a copy of
# the system passwd file in the chroot jail is just not practical.

# In particular, "trusted" SMTP clients are allowed to relay mail
# through Postfix. See the smtpd_recipient_restrictions parameter
# in postconf(5).
# You can specify the list of "trusted" network addresses by hand

# with the "ifconfig" command.
# Specify "mynetworks_style = class" when Postfix should "trust" SMTP
# clients in the same IP class A/B/C networks as the local machine.
# Don't do this with a dialup site - it would cause Postfix to "trust"

# JUNK MAIL CONTROLS
# The controls listed here are only a very small subset. The file
# SMTPD_ACCESS_README provides an overview.
# The header_checks parameter specifies an optional table with patterns
# that each logical message header is matched against, including
# headers that span multiple physical lines.
# By default, these patterns also apply to MIME headers and to the
# headers of attached messages. With older Postfix versions, MIME and
# attached message headers were treated as body text.
# For details, see "man header_checks".

# FAST ETRN SERVICE
# Postfix maintains per-destination logfiles with information about
# deferred mail, so that mail can be flushed quickly with the SMTP
# "ETRN domain.tld" command, or by executing "sendmail -qRdomain.tld".
# See the ETRN_README document for a detailed description.
# The fast_flush_domains parameter controls what destinations are
# eligible for this service. By default, they are all domains that
# this server is willing to relay mail to.
#fast_flush_domains = $relay_domains
# SHOW SOFTWARE VERSION OR NOT
# The smtpd_banner parameter specifies the text that follows the 220
# code in the SMTP server's greeting banner. Some people like to see
# the mail version advertised. By default, Postfix shows no version.
# You MUST specify $myhostname at the start of the text. That is an
# RFC requirement. Postfix itself does not care.
#smtpd_banner = $myhostname ESMTP $mail_name
#smtpd_banner = $myhostname ESMTP $mail_name ($mail_version)
# PARALLEL DELIVERY TO THE SAME DESTINATION
# How many parallel deliveries to the same user or domain? With local
# delivery, it does not make sense to do massively parallel delivery
# to the same user, because mailbox updates must happen sequentially,
# and expensive pipelines in .forward files can cause disasters when
# too many are run at the same time. With SMTP deliveries, 10
# simultaneous connections to the same domain could be sufficient to
# raise eyebrows.

Try this first - Reset the iPad by holding down on the Sleep and Home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider - let go of the buttons. (This is equivalent to rebooting your computer.)
Or this - Delete the account in Mail and then set it up again. Settings->Mail, Contacts, Calendars -> Accounts Tap on the Account, then on the red button that says Remove Account.
Cheers, Tom -

[SOLVED] IR receiver not working anymore
I have a laptop with a built in ENE eHome Infrared Remote Receiver and a Harmony remote as an MCE remote which was working fine a few weeks ago (maybe more), then it stopped working, I guess, after an update..
After trying for two days, I have now reinstalled my arch system (no big deal, this lappy is just a media center) just in case i might have messed something somewhere without knowing.
Sitll doesnt work. ir-keytable -r show no output from my remote.
Here is the output of some commands:
ir-keytable -v

How to connect Apple TV to Sony a/v receiver
I have my Apple TV connected to my home a/v Sony receiver thru the DVD input. I am using an Hdmi cable. When I try to play music from my iPad using airplay to my Apple TV, the sound cuts in and out. Should I be using an optical digital audio cable also?
No, HDMI should be OK.
You'd only need optical if say the HDMI connection went direct to the TV (say your Sony had no HDMI).
If playing music via Airplay the commonest cause for audio dropouts os poor wifi - either poor signal for iPad or AppleTV, or interference from other equipment (micorwaves, cordless landline phones) - I used to use an older Airplay equivalent to an Airport Express and it there would be frequent bits of silence - this was often triggered by somone using teh microwave in teh house causing wifi interference.
Also consider whether someone else in the house could be using a lot of LAN access/internet access eg downloading, and thus limiting bandwidth available to AppleTV and iPad.

Email not opening on my iPad2 This is a sudden thing, email had been working fine since purchasing the device then today would not stay open, now it will not open at all. After trying to open mail I receive a white screen for a nano second and the app closes.
Have you tried closing the Mail app completely ? From the home screen (i.e. not with Mail 'open' on-screen) double-click the home button to bring up the taskbar, then press and hold any of the apps on the taskbar for a couple of seconds or so until they start shaking, then press the '-' in the top left of the Mail app to close it, and touch any part of the screen above the taskbar so as to stop the shaking and close the taskbar.
If that doesn't work then you could try a reset : press and hold both the sleep and home buttons for about 10 to 15 seconds (ignore the red slider), after which the Apple logo should appear - you won't lose any content, it's the iPad equivalent of a reboot. -
IMac G5 (Rev. A) can't connect to AirPort Express
We have 2 Macintosh computers at home; one Mac mini G4 1.42GHz (model M9687LL/B) with built in AirPort Extreme card; and one iMac G5 (Rev. A) 1.6 GHz (model M9363LL/A) also with an AirPort Extreme card.
The mini was bought new, while the iMac was used when we bought it. When we bought it, the company (who were selling old Macitosh computers previously rented to other companies) installed and additional 512 MB of RAM (on top of the 256MB already in it) as well as the AirPort Extreme card. We then upgraded the OS from 10.3.9 Panther to 10.4.4 Tiger. Then we used a FireWire cable to copy the harddrive of my dads work computer (iMac G4) to the new one. We then took it home.
At home we had a linksys wireless router (model BEFW11S4) which we used to connect to the internet. Connected to this wireless network was an AirPort Express unit which we used to stream music to the downstairs stereo. However, the linksys router caused many problems, one of them being that everytime we started a computer, the router needed to be restarted to be able to send a signal so we could connect to the internet.
Eventually, we got feed up with this, and took the AirPort Express unit upstairs and replaced the linksys with it. We installed it, and it worked fine. Upstairs (location of Mac mini, the signal strength was always 4 or 3 (the little icon in the menu bar), but downstairs (where the iMac's located), the signal stayed at about 3, or sometimes 2.
After about a week, the downstairs signaled started to be more 2 than 3, but this made no real difference to us, since it still worked. Then, yesterday, it went down to 1, but still worked. Then, today, it stayed at 1, then totally disconnected. When we click the symbol in the menu bar, we can press on the wireless network to tell the computer to connect to it, but it only comes up with a box saying that the computer could not connect to it.
We have tried more or less everything to get it to work. Turning on and off the AirPort Extreme card in the computer, updating the AirPort Express firmware, restarted computers, the whole lot! But it still wont work!
My dad has borrowed an old iBook with a G3 800MHz processor running 10.3.9 Panther. The iBook has an AirPort card in it (not AirPort Extreme), but even downstairs, it gets full (or sometimes 3) connection. I even tried the basement, and it still works!
So my question is, why won't the iMac even connect to the network? Any help is greatly appreciated!
iMac G5, 1.6GHz, 768MB, AirPort Express Mac OS X (10.4.4)I'm having a very similar problem with my iMac. I moved the airport down to the basement last week. Reception was at 3, but droped quickly to 2 and 1 and eventually the iMac lost the connection to the airport.
I brought the airport back to the office where the iMac is located and where the airport used to be, but I was unable to join the network again, even though the signal was received by the computer. I downloaded a widget for the dashboard that showed full strength of the signal.
While having these problems with the iMac, I don't have any problems connecting with my iBook to the network. Since I was able to connect to the airport via the iBook, I changed some of the settings, but nothing really helped except disabling wireless security. Agter that I was able to connect to the network via the iMac again, but only for a couple of minutes until the network disappeared again.
I'm reading about lots of other people having problems with the airport recently. So I suspect that this has to do with the recent OS X update. Hopefully somebody at Apple is looking at this problem right now!
