Is is best to save iphone videos in iphoto or imovie?

Where is the best place to save my iphone videos. Is it necessary to keep it in iphoto and imovie both?

iphoto and imovie
On your iPhone or a Mac?
On a Mac it will depend on how you want to use your videos.  iPhoto has no tools to edit your videos. If you want to edit your videos import them to iMovie.  If you want to use the videos just as they are in iPhoto slideshow projects, keep them in iPhoto.

With the amount of information you've provided it's impossible to offer a potential solution.  We can't see your computer so we need to know some details of your problem and setup, i.e.:
what version of iPhoto are you using?
what system version are you running?
    what fixes have you tried?
    where is you library located?
did you apply any updates or upgrades just prior to the problem occurring?
are you running a "managed" or "referenced" library?
    what type of Mac?
how much free space on your boot drive?

  • How to export videos de iphoto a imovie

    Hi,
I have captured trought iphoto some videos from my iphone. When I tried to export that videos from iphoto to imovie, imovie crash (i have the last version)
Could somebody help me with this problem?
    Thanks and regards

iMovie 8 accepts video in MPEG4, DV and MOV formats. If your video clips are from a still camera that records in another format, you will have to first convert the videos before iMovie 8 will recognize them. You can use MPEG Streamclip to do this. You may be able to batch convert clips; I have not done this and have converted them one at a time.
Just drag the clip from iPhoto onto the MPEG Streamclip window and select to convert it to one of the above formats; save the new clip, then put it into iMovie.

  • How to download a video in iPhoto to iMovie?

As a newbie in using the video feature on my camera, I did so in portrait frame. Upon downloading the video to iPhoto, I was not able to rotate it in order to view it properly as well as mount it on my client's website. I have learned iPhoto cannot rotate of a video and was informed I need to perform this task using iMovie.
This is all very new to me therefore seek assistance on how to transfer the video from iPhoto into iMovie and rotate it for viewing purposes.
    Your assistance is greatly appreciated.
    Thank you, in advance.

In the event library in iMovie you should be able to see iPhoto videos - click on this, find the video you want to rotate, make sure you select the whole clip and then click and drag it to an existing iMovie event.
Once you've done this, add the iPhoto video into a new or existing project, and with the clip highlighted press the 'C' button on your keyboard, or the clip tool in iMovie, either of which will open a crop window which will have at the top of it a left and right rotate button.

  • I cannot save a video I modified in iMovie 08

I need to rotate a video that was taken in portrait and put it in landscape mode.  I imported it into iMovie 08 with no trouble and rotated it with no problem.  But I can't finde a way to SAVE the modified video.  How do I save a video I worked on in iMovie 08?
    Thanks

    Eric,
Certainly not a commercial movie.  It's a video I took with my digital camera.  I've loaded it into iPhoto with no difficulties, but, of course it can't be rotated there.
My problem seems to be that it's not being treated as a "project", but is, rather, treated as an "event".
I tried moving it, piece by piece from "event" to "project" windows and that worked.  Then when I played it in the project window, to my surprise, it ran OK.  The concern I have is that the piece I pick in  the event window don't fit together seamlessly in the project window -- there are some "jumps" now when the video is played.
But I guess I can life with this.
    Again, your replies are appreciated.

  • How do i use videos i shot with my iphone saved in iPhoto  on iMovie

Can't be done with iTunes.  You can do it with the app PhotoSync.  It will transfer videos back to camera roll.

  • IPhone video squashed down in iMovie

The frame of my iPhone video is tall and narrow, but the images look correct. When I import into iMovie to edit, the frame becomes normal sized, but the images are squashed vertically.
Is there anything I can do to make the phone video more compatible with iMovie?

Can you believe I've been holding the phone vertically to shoot all this time..?
    Jeesh!

  • How do I move videos from iphoto to imovie

I've got a new macbook pro 17", Pegasus 12TB, and all manner of photos and videos. Ive recently upgraded from a G5. Hence, I took a variety of USB drives and found all sorts of photos and videos, FCE stuff, and basically did my best to consolidate them into either Aperture 3.x (kept up to date) and iMovie (latest updates). I keep all my software updated as soon as any update is released.
I am finally learning a bit about how to use a laptop with tons of information (pic/vids mostly). It wasn't as easy as I thought. Needless to say, the laptop is the cruncher of information and the pegasus is a screamer with speed. I am moving all my files (aperture libarary, iphoto library, and FCE stuff) to the pegasus seeing as the cute little internal HD doesn't hold much.
I've been able to find out how to move iMovie files from my internal drive and various other asundry of external FW800 drive into the pegasus 12TB to consolidate them in one place. All seems well after a few months of figuring this out, getting a quasi-workflow going.
Now I'm stuck a bit. I have Aperture and iPhoto showing up in my event library as having vidoes. I used to use iPhoto to manage videos that were simple point and shoot camera style vids. I now want to take the many files and do the same as I've done with all other video: move the video files under iMovie control on the Pegasus.
Problem: I can't seem to make this work except in one fashion: drag each and every individual clip over to an event in iMovie under Pegasus drive. Talk about time consuming!  Not only that, it doesn't move it, it copies it. Then I have to go back and delete it in iphoto.
I've tried making a smart folder in iPhoto to find videos and then hopefully export them to the desktop. Then I could import into iMovie on the pegasus. No go. Can't find the videos. They are somehow scattered about inside of iPhoto in such a manner that I can't seem to find them unless I open each project and manuall search them out. I'm sure I'm doing something wrong here, has to be an easier way.
I tried highlighting all the videos on iphoto that show up in the imovie events library and just doing a mass drag/drop. Not go. Just doesn't do it. Ignores me.
    I'm out of ideas.
How does one get video scattered around inside of iPhoto (and to a lesser extent, aperture) so that I can consolidate them under iMovies control on the pegasus?
    Thanks
    Robert

iMovie can access those movies that are inside iPhoto. Just look in the Event pane of iMovie and click on the iPhoto icon:
All of the movies in iPhoto will be displayed at the right where you can access them for whatever project you'd like.
Otherwilse you'd have to export all of them out of iPhoto using the File ➙ Export ➙ File Export menu option and use the Format = Original option.  Them move them into a folder in the Movies fodler and let iMovie find them there. Then you'd have to do that each time you import a movie into iPhoto or manually upload the photos and movies ot a folder on your Desktop and then import the photos only into iPhoto and move the movie files into the Movie folder.

  • Took movie w/iPhone, imported into iPhoto, now iMovie not "seeing" the .mov

    Hi,
I took a movie with my iPhone 3GS. During the sync process with my Mac, iPhoto imported the file as a .mov. In iPhoto, when I click on the .mov file, QuickTime opens and plays the movie just fine. In iMovie, however, when I click the little camera icon (to open up iPhoto and search for files), I cannot see the .mov file, even though I know it is there in iPhoto.
I have read a number of posts about this issue, and feel fairly lost at the moment. I'd appreciate any point in the right direction.
    Thanks

    That would be simple....
I am having a similar problem trying to find images I have imported into iPhoto not showing up in iMovie. I have tried the fixes they suggest in the iMovie help file: "iLife: Cannot See iPhoto Files in Other iLife Applications" and they do not help.
However, the images do not show up in iMovie even though the events and photos show up in iPhoto and other events and images... from earlier show up in iMovie. At least until March 22 08. I don't use iPhoto or iMovie very much as I don't have a Digital Camera or Cell Phone. I do have a project now that they would be perfect for and now...
The help file info didn't help... there is another more current thread as well about the photo issue rather than the iPhone movie... but I think it is the same issue to do with iMovie seeing imports made by iPhoto.

  • How to transfer videos from iPhoto to iMovie '11

I can't seem to understand how to put my videos from iphoto over to imovie.

    Hi,
Can you say what you have tried?
    I do it this way:
    - after importing the videos into iphoto, close iphoto
    - close imovie if you have it open
    - reopen imovie
you should see a dialog box saying imovie is generating thumbnails. Allow it to do so.
I don't know why closing the applications, then restarting imovie works, but it may help you.

  • How to update videos from iPhoto in iMovie

I started a project in iMovie 11 and imported my videos in iPhoto but now I have new ones to import. If there is an update solution, it escapes me. I haven't found a way to access them.
    Any solutions?
    Thanks

If iPhoto is presently working as expected, I would try some basic troubleshooting first, then restart the computer and try again.
    REPAIRING DISK PERMISSIONS -
NOTE: refer to article "About Disk Utility's Repair Disk Permissions feature" found here http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1452 - for the actual apple article on these step. ----
    - click finder in the bottom dock, and in the window that opens, select applications in the left column - scroll through until you see the 'Utilities' folder and double click to open it.  Then double click on 'Disk Utility'

    - click the button at the bottom that says 'Repair Disk Permissions'
    - this process will take a few minutes to run.  It will indicate it's done, by scrolling to the bottom of the "details area" displaying 'Permissions repair complete'
Dan Frankes has written an excellent article for Macworld on "Permissions" and the need to repair them - see - http://www.macworld.com/article/52220/2006/08/repairpermissions.html.    Another good web site is - http://www.thexlab.com/faqs/durepairfns.html.

    - this process will take a few minutes to run.  It will indicate it's done, by scrolling to the bottom of the "details area" displaying "The Macintosh HD appears OK"
If you get any other message OTHER than "The Macintosh HD appears OK", like "the Macintosh HD was repaired successfully" run the "Disk Repair" again, until it displays  "The Macintosh HD appears OK".
Once done, restart the computer as normal

  • Need help changing ratio on iphone video shot verticle because iMovie is showing it stretched wide.

What do I do if I imported a video from my iphone to imovie and it came out stretched? Like it was shot with camera upright and the imovie is making it fit to frame. I don't mind if it plays with two black bands on the side I just don't want it stretched.
I don't se anywhere to adjust aspect ratio or anything that seems to help and most of the answers in forums use tech talk I don't understand.  So if you are going to suggest I change the ratio from 16:9 to 16:10 or something like that please explain what that is and how I specifically do it in iMovie for Dummies talk.
    Thanks so much.
