Is is possible to add Windows 6 64-bit drivers to a Windows 2003 print server?

We are having some trouble figuring a way in which to support network printing for Windows 7 64-bit machines that we are starting to intermittently put out in what, as of this moment, is still primarily a native XP 32-bit environment.  Our concern has been that, if we replace the drivers on the print server to the Windows 7 64-bit drivers, then the XP machines will then pull down those drivers and then not be able to print any longer.  According to Microsoft, the way around this is to utilize the "Additional Drivers" area within the properites of the printer.  From there, in theory, you can add a new driver that uses "x64" as the print processor.  However, when we attempted to do this on our legacy Windows 2003 print server (which I believe to be 32-bit) we noticed that, in the "version area" of the selection for the x64 print processor, Windows 7 is not listed.  We then receive the following error message after we attempt to go forward and add the driver. . .
-Selected printer driver not found
The specified location does not contain the driver HP LaserJet 4050 Series PCL6 for the requested processor architecture
It looks to me that the problem is in that the server is Windows 2003 and we are attempting to make Windows 7 drivers work within that framework.  Can someone please confirm this suspician or instruct us further?
Thanks,
-Brian McKnight

Gotcha!!
I am done with mounting a secondary HDD (thanks to ifixit) and installing Windows 8 Pro 64 bit on it without a worry. Charm, charm!!
Boot Camp 5 guide prescribes all needed steps and when read and used correctly, installation must be an easy task. And all the existing apple hardwares work so good in the Windows environment too.
I am going to help out a friend of mine in doing a similar thing on his mac too. If you got specific questions, please do shoot up here and i should be able to get a reply to it (if at all).
Thanks everyone.

  • Problems printing via AppleTalk with a Windows 2003 print server

My company is migrating from Windows 2000 Server over to Windows 2003, which is going to be the new acting print queue.
We have a mix of old and new printers (most of them HP), and our Macs have been printing to the printers via AppleTalk. With the new print server, we could not easily find the printers on the network since AppleTalk was not turned on. However, once AppleTalk was turned on, it was easy to find and add the printers. We are good so far. Before hand, I tried to add the printers via an SMB connection, but kept having problems with NT Authentication errors.
I tried printing a test page to the newly added printer, and it came back with this error:
%%[ Error: undefined; OffendingCommand: languagelevel ]%%
%%[ Flushing: rest of job (to end-of-file) will be ignored ]%%
This is about the best reference I've found so far which relates to this problem:
    http://www.tek-tips.com/viewthread.cfm?qid=1167812&page=1
Most of the other suggestions I've dug up so far refer to updating firmware or drivers, but I don't think that is the problem. The drivers on the old W2K print server and the new W2k3 server are the same, so it is my opinion that something on the new print server isn't turned on or isn't installed yet.
Any ideas on what the issue is here?

"Supposedly" the same exact drivers were installed for the printer -- the same driver that was used on the old print server. Might something else need to be installed?
I've found a few other cases where people are having the same error:

  • 64 bit drivers for windows 7?

    hey guys.
i want to install windows 7 64-bit on my macbook pro 17", i am familiar with the install process. but i need to know whether or not there is a 64-bit drivers available for windows 7?
about 2 years ago or so i installed windows vista 64-bit but only to found out later there is no 64-bit drivers supported by apple (only 32-bit).

You would have found that you can back then just copy the whole package into a folder and use /Apple/Drivers/BootCamp64 and that is true still today on "unsupported by 64-bit" Macs.
BC 3.1 on 2006 Mac Pro is a big BSOD PITA so if something does work, use that.
Disable (rename) AppleHFS and AppleMNT to disable the HFS feature though as one source of BSODs.
Apple has a list of what Macs are not supported by Windows 7, another list of Vista 64-bit that are supported. Take all of it with a grain of salt (and shot of tequila).

    Hi
We have a requirement to prompt for weblogic password in windows 64 bit machine. It should not be visible in the screen while entering the password.
So was trying to run the following from a 64 bit Windows machine .
    @echo off
    echo hP1X500P[PZBBBfh#b##fXf-V@`$fPf]f3/f1/5++u5>in.com
    echo Enter password:
    for /f "tokens=*" %%i in ('in.com') do set "password=%%i"
    del in.com
    echo.
    echo The Password is:"%password%"
This doesnt work in Windows 64 bit but works with Windows 32 bit machine.
Does any of you in Weblogic team have implemented similar stuff for working in Windows 64 bit ?
    thanks in advance.

Thanks, I was pretty sure they should be there, but since I don't use them often, I was in doubt.
I can't think of anything I did to remove the filter gallery - I'm really intrigued about how could it disappear (?). I supposed the 32 and 64 bit version of the 8bf file would be different, but wanted to give it a try just in case...
After wasting some time trying to find the 64 bit "filter gallery.8bf" online, I've decided to just reinstall CS5 and yes, just as you say, now the filters are there. It's a good thing that reinstalling CS5 somehow keeps intact your preferences, workspace and 3rd party plugins! I just had to run the Adobe updater and everything's back to normal.
Thanks for confirming this was an issue! Have a great day.

  • Laserjet 1300n drivers on Windows XP-32 or 32-bit drivers to the Win7-64 server

A customer of mine lost the capability to print to the shared printer on a Win7-64 box (on a parallel cable).  I uninstalled and re-installed the drivers on the Win7 server and a Win7-64 box.  Both work great.
I am unable to re-install the driver on an XP-32 box and I can't get them installed as additional drivers on the Win7-64 print server.  Tried every download HP has to offer and even the original CD.  Every one says "windows could not find a driver for your device" or "a severe problem has occured".

  • 64 bit drivers for pci5

I have a pci52 card that still works great....as long as I'm using 32 bit windows or linux. The card actually still works in 64 bit linux, but not windows 64.
Is there any way to get the open source 64 bit drivers working in windows, or is there any other way to get this card working in windows 64?

That's too bad. This is a great card and I have a sound system that used the front and rear outputs on the card (for 4. system). I could use the built in sound on the mobo, but I'd lose the front/rear sound option
Anyone else have any ideas on getting this card to work? For now I'll just run 32 bit windows and 64 bit linux I guess.

  • Can you use a Windows-only printer over a print server?

I recently found a large format printer from Ricoh that has great reviews and prints postscript with laser speed/economy with some new inkjet technology only they have - perfect for a home design office and a LOT cheaper than a typical tabloid laser.
Problem is, it's only compatible with Windows systems...
Someone told me it's possible to get a print server to link my Airport Extreme networked Powerbook G4 to this incompatible printer but i haven't seen any print servers that have a Ricoh print driver listed in their specs. Am I out of luck or could it still work with some kind of generic driver or something? Thanks in advance for any guidance you can offer.
Printer is the Ricoh Aficio G7500

Print servers don't use a driver. The protocols that communicate with them are standard protocols handled by the OS (Windows, OS X, linux).
If the Ricoh is a postscript printer, it's only compatible with Windows systems isn't quite right. Any postscript level II or III printer is compatible with OS X. The problem may be that the plugins used by OS X's print dialog (Copies & pages menu options) for special features like alternate paper tray may not be provided, so you'll have access to fewer features.
But you say it's an inkjet technology printer - most of those aren't postscript printers, and that Does Require a driver for OS X.
The only other option I can think of is a Windows computer set up to be postscript RIP/printer server:

  • Windows Server Print Server 2012 R2 MP Not Alerting on Unhealthy Printers

I just spun up a 2012 R2 print server, added some printers (both healthy and unhealthy), installed the SCOM 2012 R2 agent and installed the Windows Server Print Server 2012 R2 MP (all in a test environment). I wanted to demonstrate the value add of this
MP and I made the assumption that we could alert on unhealthy printers, but I'm not seeing any alerts. I have 7 printers total; 1 is offline, 1 has low toner and 1 is out of paper.  I would think that at least one of them should generate an alert
based on the performance monitors present and enabled in the MP.
I checked the MP guide but can't find any answers.  Does anyone out there have any tips or suggestions for getting printer queue alerts working in the new Print Server 2012 R2 MP?
    Regards,
    TsunamiSteve

Thank you for your quick reply.
Yes, the printers were discovered by the management pack but all appear healthy even though a few definitely aren't per the Print Management console.  I checked the print server for events associated with unhealthy printers but either there aren't any
or we don't have logging turned up high enough for that.  The management pack guide refers to this appendix (http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/dd206713.aspx) and I've looked
for the Run Monitoring Rule to edit the script but I think this is a reference to an earlier version of the MP and/or a 2003 print server.
It appears all the pieces to accomplish this are present and that I'm just missing a configuration in the MP (hopefully just an override that has eluded me).  Any further insight would be greatly appreciated.

  • SQL Server 2012 (Server Authentication), Is it possible to add Server Authentication after a Windows Authentication installation

I installed SQL Server 2012 to use Windows Authentication. An the tool I'm using to replicated data to the SQL Server 2012 database wants to use the (Server Authentication) mode. Is it possible to add a Server Authentication useID and Password?
Please let me know your thoughts.

    Hi
You can change SQL Server Authentication by right clicking on the server instance and @Server Properties, Choose SQL Server and Windows Authentication Mode as shown in the image below
You have to restart the SQL Server for this to come into effect.
After this you are good to go for creating SQL Logins and using them.
    Hope this helps.

  • Possible to run a 32 bit program in 64 bit Windows 7 Pro?

    Hi
I've ordered a Thinkpad X220 which here in UK only comes with 64 bit version of windows 7 pro. Problem is that there a couple of programs which i use which only run in 32 bit windows (no 64 bit version available) and they run fine in my existing Win 7 32 bit version...i've tried them on a friend's pc running 64 bit Win 7 Ultimate and they do not work. Is there any way to make these programs work in Win 7 Pro 64 bit on my soon-to-arrive X220? If i downloaded and installed 'Windows XP Mode with Virtual PC" on my X220, would this help in making the 32 bit programs work on my 64 bit Win 7?

    Phychopomp1,
Windows 7 64 bit is able to run 32 bit programs. However, some programs will have issues.
Have you checked your programs against the Windows 7 compatibility list: http://www.microsoft.com/download/en/details.aspx?displaylang=en&id=2394
This should tell you if they are compatible or not with Windows 7 64-bit.
There are compatibility settings that you can try once you have installed the software also. Right click on the shortcut and choose properties, then go to the compatibility tab and try the various OS settings.
If those things fail, then you should try Windows XP Mode (convenience link: http://www.microsoft.com/windows/virtual-pc/download.aspx). This will allow you to install your programs in a virtual copy of Windows XP SP3 using Windows Virtual PC. Once XP Mode is installed, when you install your software into it, you will get a shortcut to use the program from your Windows 7 start menu without even seeing the XP Mode window.
    Hope this helps,

  • Is it possible to add reverb to vocal mic, without affecting my keyboard sound?

    Hello,
I am trying to record my vocals and piano simultaneously. I'm using the MBox 2, with Adobe Audition 3.0. Whenever I add reverb to my vocal track (via the fx tab under my vocal track in multi track view), it affects the way my piano sounds while I am recording (it creates a delay on the sound of the keyboard while I am playing...almost like a 'bouncing note' delay). I really want to be able to hear some reverb on my voice while recording, but I cannot seem to figure out how to do it. This is how I have everything set up:
Piano is plugged in via DI on input 2 on the back of the mbox
vocal mic is plugged in via cannon on input 1 on back of mbox
If anybody could help, that would be wonderful. I've spent hours trying to figure this out with no luck. It is a lot more fun to record your singing with a bit of the pretty reverb....but my piano doesn't agree.
    Thank you
    Best,
    Jenny Jo

    Hello Brian,
Thanks for your help again. I have spent the last 6 hours running into nothing but problems. I tried your advice about recording mono in both separate tracks, and still no luck. I was using a condenser mic, and a keyboard. Both using mono, and I was using the studio reverb. I finally decided to try something simpler, just so I could at least feel a bit satisfied in getting a recording in. I set the condenser mic near my keyboard and speakers, and plugged my keyboard into the speakers. I armed the one mic track for record for phantom power, applied studio reverb, and set up the correct settings for the track by going into Audio Hardware Setup and selecting 'Asio Digidesign Driver' as the audio driver for everything. I simply wanted to play my piano, which would sound through the monitors next to me, and sing into the microphone..which would pick up my vocals with the piano in the background. The only way I could hear reverb on my voice during the recording, was by adjusting the 'mix' knob on the front of the mbox. It seemed to be working okay, and I thought I had found at least a compromise for the moment. But after saving the files, and upon listening to them...I noticed drops and rises/glitches/ in the recording volume. I then did a bunch of tests. I recorded some without any reverb assigned at all, did some recordings with the mix knob up and some with it off...I tried everything I could think of. I saved each one as a wav file, and MP3, just to see if that would affect the sound. Listening to them, they all have those same sound glitches. While doing the recordings, the sound disturbances weren't audible.
I am wondering if there is a setting that I need to fix...I am not the most savvy technical person, and am rather new to recording. Maybe the buffer size needs to be adjusted? I really have no idea...it is frustrating. I should say that I am using an MBox 2, which is supposed to be used with Pro Tools software. I had problems using Pro Tools as well, I don't think my OS is very compatible with it. Unfortunately, I have windows Vista, which I hear nothing but problems about in regards to recording. I prefer to use Adobe Audition, as I'm familiar with it, and like it.
Well, I hope this email hasn't put you to sleep. I really hope I can get this figured out, as I'm keen to record.
    Thank you again..
    Best,
    Jenny Jo

Out of some disbelief I had to try my own setup suggestion from above, since it's not a thing I do daily anymore. Without wanting to go into any dispute with the above poster, I can only say:
    It works well here.
    Your mileage may vary.
Setting up two mono tracks with a separate input to each, I was able to record vocals with reverb from Audition in my monitoring headphones, along with recording an electro-acoustic instrument (guitar in my case) on the adjacent track with no reverb at all. I sang/tested with lots of consonants and different monitor levels and reverbs; I used the Studio Reverb, which is the least CPU intensive and recommended in the manual. There was no noticable delay, echo, what have you, which I felt disturbed my precision at all. Now I KNOW technically there is a delay/latency, but for practical purposes it isn't noticable. I've also heard some singers are extremely pecky on this, and for them there is the solution of direct monitoring and an outboard reverb added to their headphone signal. For everyone else however it works well and the latency just a theory - certainly not an audible 'echo' of any kind. With a poor soundcard and a computer low on resources latency will become evident. Also if you don't use ASIO. This type of application is why we have ASIO.

  • Is It Possible to add the Actual Quicktime player to a page?

Does anyone know if it is possible to add the actual quicktime player that you see on your desktop to a page? I want to add a Quicktime movie to a page and still end up with the whole controller not just the little control bar.

Kyn's response is also your answer.
To open the QuickTime Player (instead of playing your file in a browser window) is a feature of iWeb that is "missing". Maybe next version?
I use the special html "tags" in many of my .Mac hosted Web pages:
    http://homepage.mac.com/kkirkster/04war/
    As an example.
You need to edit the iWeb created page code after publishing to do this work. It may be more work than you've planned because it does require a lot of "hand coding" to your "Published" HTML page code. And, because iWeb also uses special javascripts (.js files) to showcase your QuickTime file, you'll need to hand edit them also.
There is some freeware software (PAGEot) that can help a bit with the page coding. A Google search for it is easy.
Editing "published" pages is not for the faint of heart and may be necessary each time your iWeb site is updated.
Does this answer your personal email to me?
We can show you the steps when you're ready to implement them.
