Is is possible to shuffle a playlist?

have a 30GB color iPod, have several playlists, but it appears that the shuffle function only works on my entire library (really don't want to mix classical, country, and rock). is it possible to shuffle a playlist?

Not sure if anyone else has had this problem. After surviving the Windows Media Player /firmware update nightmare, my Zen Xtra 30 gig now will not shuffle within a playlist. Instead, when I select a playlist in shuffle mode, it shuffles through ALL the playlists. Any idea how to fix this?Thanks!

I created a smart Playlist and, as far as I can tell from the iPod menu, it looks like it will play in the same order every time. Say it ain't so.

Why did I post in the iTunes section? Well, I'd looked at both my iPod and iTunes settings, found nothing obvious and then effectively tossed a coin on where to post. I don't think it was that bad a call considering I got a swift, accurate answer courtesy of yourself.
Finally, in plumping for "G5" I was following the same convention that compresses Second World War to WW2. Still, I confess I forgot about the G5 processor. You're right, it does look ignorant, so I've retagged my beloved iPod in your honour.

Shuffling a playlist during a Nike+ workout

Is it possible to shuffle a playlist during a Nike+ workout (other than using the Shake To Shuffle feature) on an iPod Nano Gen 6? I would like be able to elect to shuffle a playlist for a workout just as your are able to shuffle a playlist from the Music icon. If not, would it be possible to add this to the next firmware upgrade? I have a large workout playlist, but when listen during Nike+ run, I end up listening to the same songs every time. I'd love to be able to mix it up.

I have been runiing with a 2nd gen Nano and Nike+ for 5 years. I recently upgraded to a 6th gen Nano and had experienced the same annoying problem - lots of playlist, no way to shuffle. The solution I figured out:
First select the playlist you want to run to in the Music icon and play with the shuffle icon
Then flip to the Fitness/Nike+ icon, (playlist should be playing/shuffling), set up your run and use "Now Playing" for your playlist.
Get running.
Not the most elegant way, but it works.

Go to settings/shuffle and set it to "songs".
Select any playlist and press play.
The songs within that playlist will be shuffled.

Shuffling a playlist using your ipod

Does anyone know if it is possible to shuffle the songs in a playlist using your ipod? I can do this using iTunes, but not directly from my ipod.

As Kenichi wrote, but when you go to Music -> Playlists, scroll to the playlist you want and press Play (not Select).
If you press Select and then Play, the first song will always be the same. Not a big deal but you don't need to go into a playlist to play it.

Is it possible to shuffle songs just within a playlist? I have lots of other songs on Ipod, but wanted to just shuffle through one of my playlists.

I think this can't be done, but it is possible to shuffle just one playlist by album (e.g. classical)?

You could try:
iPod Settings > Shuffle > Albums and select and play the list.
This is on iPod. Don't think it can be done on iTunes.

Nano - Shuffle within Playlist?

I've had my Nano for a couple of days now and absolutely love it, anyway I do have one question I'm sure someone will be able to answer...
Is it possible to shuffle songs within a certain playlist?
I know you can shuffle by song or album which is fine but ideally I'd want to have say a playlist dedicated to easy listening/for music for the gym or whatever and be able to randomise the songs within that playlist only.
It doesn't look possible at the moment but I'd thought I'd post just incase anyone knows otherwise!

To shuffle within a playlist, try the following:
- In 'Settings', select 'Shuffle' and you'll see that you can set it to 'Off', 'Songs' and 'Albums'
- Change Shuffle to 'Songs'
- Go to any playlist and select a song
- When the song is playing, you will see the shuffle icon above the song name
- The nano will stay in that playlist and shuffle the songs

How can I shuffle a playlist in iTunes for an iPod so my stereo play a large playlist in a seemingly random order

I have an iPod classic that I plug into my car stereo. My car stereo can play playlists, or if just plug it in, it will play every song in alphabetical order. Once plugged in, I cannot use the iPod to "shuffle". I require a pre-shuffled playlist. I have done this before in iTunes 11 will special instructions, but I've since misplaced those instructions. I know how to build a large playlist of all of my songs. Now, how do I shuffle that list of, say, 20,000 songs, and save to a new shuffled playlist? Don't say it can't be done, because I've done it. I know Apple removed the ability to do this quickly and easily, because obviously Apple doesn't really take their customers wants and needs into account. Otherwise, they would see the thousands of complaints after they removed that feature.
So, is there anyone here that can help me? I don't really need to hear that it's not supported or that it used to work. If you know how to shuffle a playlist and save it in that shuffled state, please post the steps for doing this in Windows iTunes 11.

Just go to Settings, Shuffle, then turn it to Songs. The songs will stay in the same order in the playlist, but they'll switch it up.

How Do I Shuffle A Playlist

I have a few playlists on my iPod nano, and one of them is Christmas songs. I want to shuffle only the Christmas song playlist, but every year I can't remember how to do that. It seems that when I select shuffle, and go into that playlist and start playing a song, it shuffles...but it shuffles between all the songs in all my playlists. Do I have to do something different to make it shuffle only the songs in one playlist, and not play any songs from the other playlists?

Deggie, My son has an iphone and he created playlists on it. The first song in the playlist was the shuffle feature. If you selected this it would shuffle that playlist. Is this available for the ipod classic? It was a pretty cool feature.

How do I shuffle a playlist during a workout on an ipod nano 7th generation? The only shuffle option I see is for all songs, not a specific playlist. I know that I can begin a workout using the now playing option. This will allow me to shuffle a playlist in the begining of my workout, but if I want to change music I cannot get back into shuffle mode unless I select the shuffle all songs option.

In the past I would click on a icon in the lower right corner of the playlist, each time you clicked the icon the playlist would shuffle itself. I'm a bit confused, but I assume you want to shuffle your playlist while you are playing it in iTunes. If this is so, you will actually have to start playing a song before the shuffle button appears, and it appears in the top center panel of your iTunes window. Yeah, I know...
