Is it a bad idea to move a Pagefile to a Ramdrive if you have plenty of RAM?

Hi,
I have a Workstation with 60GB of Ram, witch usually uses less then 10GB.
Till now in peak situation with more than 200 processes I only saw up to about 45GB RAM usage. (In Taskmanager)
Since it is a bad idea to Disable the Pagefile, even if you have plenty of RAM to spare I was wondering if it would be possible/useful to Create a Ramdrive and move (at least a Part of) the Pagefile to a Ram Drive?

Probably, you can move the page file to an other drive. In any case, you should never disable the page file because it helps keep your computer stable.

You can re-download content purchased from the iTunes store (availability varies depending on location) using the purchased option from the Quick Links section in the top right corner of the iTunes homepage in your iTunes application on your computer.
You can re-download content purchased from the iTunes store (availability varies depending on location) using the purchased option which is revealed in the iTunes app on your iOS device by tapping the more button at the bottom of the screen.
If the problem re-occurs, select the content which is causing a problem and use the 'Report a problem' button in Your Purchase History using your computer.
Try deleting the problematic book (electing to remove original file if/when prompted) and then re-downloading the file from the iBook store.

MBPR w/Hard Case = Good or Bad Idea?

I am the happy owner of a new MBPr 15" and like many other owners am keen on protecting my investment. The first thing that came to mind was to outfit it with a hard case and being a detail guy I researched the topic online. Turns out many are saying that a hard case is NOT a good idea for the following two good reasons:
extra weight on the screen wears down the hinges which can lead to a very expensive screen replacement.
overheating/heating issues even with hard cases that have cutouts for vents that can cause permanent damaged to the battery and internal components.
Apple sells the hard cases in their stores and it seems that they are divided on the answer with some "Genius" bar employees saying hard cases are not good and others suggesting them to protect your MacBook Pro. Hard case companies are of course saying that their products are safe to use (the contrary would seriously jeopardize the sale of their product). I have asked Apple and leading case/accessory maker Moshi to comment on this issue and will post their replies in this thread.
My goal is to pool the statements, experiences and opinions on the subject to make it definitely clear once and for all if hard cases are indeed a bad idea to protect your Retina MacBook Pro. Do you have anything to say or share?

The general rule of thumb is that sample-instrument samples should be stored on a separate drive. This is particularly crucial if you're streaming samples from disk (EXS with "virtual memory" on, or DFD (direct from disk) as found in other sample-based plugs).
And you'll want to record audio on a separate drive as well, never on your system drive (except in a pinch) if you can help it.
For a laptop, the ideal system would be to have separate external drives for audio recording and samples. If you're working on a tower/desktop model, these additional drives can be exclusively external drives or a combination of internal and external drives.
My system:
• Lacie 250G (video playback) FW400
• Glyph 250G (sample storage #1) FW400
• OWC 350G (sample storage #2) eSATA (via eSATA PCI-e card)
• Maxtor 500G drive (audio recording/project drive) -- internal
Works very nicely!

My bank is offering to increase my credit limit on 2 credit cards.I have an excellent credit score, and already have more than enough credit limit available on my credit cards.I know that a higher limit would make for a better credit score when there is some debt on the cards.HOWEVER - What I'd like to know:Is it ever a bad idea to accept a credit limit increase offer from a bank / credit card issuer?Also - Can a too high of a credit limit affect ones ability to get a mortgage or other loans? Thanks!Depends how much debt we're talking about, 1% is still basically 1% even increasing your aggregate CL massively. Doesn't matter for FICO if your balances aren't there, might matter for Vantage Score if you care about such things. As for a bad idea, no not really unless some future lender figures you're overextended. Personally I don't limit chase just to limit chase, there are certain cards I want a high limit on (travel card, default spend card, and balance carrying cards to be explicit), and others such as my Freedom at 1K I couldn't care less what it was as I only use it for 5% rewards and it'd be rare for me to get a >1K purchase other than maybe Amazon during the holidays. Limits are irrelevant for mortgages and most other loans, the key there is your FICO score and your DTI ratio, and there the minimum payment amount counts, not the potential maximum. FWIW in the current market there's people with 4-5X their income in card limits on this forum, that may not be a fantastic idea for most people, but current market doesn't really matter and as such I'd probably accept them personally. There are some people who chase credit card signup bonuses, and for those, limiting their current amount of available credit might sway an underwriting decision in their direction, and as such they might wish to decline, I just haven't ever done that... yet at least .

Removing iTunesHelper from start-up programs, a bad idea?

I would like to remove iTunesHelper from my start-up, is this a bad idea? Will it hurt iTunes performance?

This is what the iTunes helper does, it makes it so whenever you connect an iPod/iPhone/iPad/etc., if you have the option to do so enabled in iTunes, it will automatically open iTunes for that device.
So, remember that checkbox "Run iTunes when this device is connected?" in your iPod screens? Yup, iTunes Helper is the tool that helps manage this and determine the device is connected, and runs iTunes if it is not open.
That said, if you like this feature, then you'll want to keep it around. If you disable it, when you connect a device, iTunes will not open automatically, even if you specifically told it to do so before, since it requires iTunes Helper to do that.
However if you don't care for this, and wish to open iTunes manually, then there is no problem with removing it from your startup.

HT1725 When I click on a Movie I get the following "You have already purchased this item but it has not been downloaded. To download it, select Check For Available Downloads from the Store menu." Then get err = 11111

iTunes quit unexpectedly during the download of a movie. When I click on that movie now I get the following message: "You have already purchased this item but it has not been downloaded. To download it, select Check For Available Downloads from the Store menu."
I follow the instructions, but the download still doesn't resume - err = 11111

Yeah, I am going to blast my iPhone for the 4th time today and pray this goes away. I had 6 apps showing updates, the 6 badge icon shows on the App Store on my iPhone and, having run them all, the 6 apps have two copies each on my iPhone: one that is the old version of the app and will not run and the other is a faded version of the app with an empty progress bar on the icon. Click those and you get an error message about connecting to iTunes, etc. as described in the article I linked to above.
It gets stranger than this. If I install a completely NEW app, the 6 that are stuck mid-update heal themselves and appear with the new version only, however now completely different apps (Hold Em for instance - which I did not update and didn't need an update) will not launch "app name Cannot Launch" message comes up.

Thanks for your reply. I am trying a home network to see if I can cut down my encoding time and increase my capacity on existing equipment. What I have is outlined in "other details" below. Because of the limitations, I am putting highest priority on trying to find out what has been causing problems with my real time mp2 transcoder nor recoginizing some Quicktime files and consider the Qmaster distributed processing for batch processing files for web streaming. For now, thtis will have to do.
I see the sense of having a dedicated server for the source footage. But I need to do things peer to peer. I use to oversee a WinNT server years back. Its been awhile. Do you would log into each of your G5 quads as the same domain user (or Mac OSX server equivalent)? Is one of your G4's (not the server) the controller? Is the same machine both controller and client?
For the referenced movie I tried, it took many many hours --at least several times longer than if I did the job on a single machine. However, that was when I only had a cluster of two. I might try again with three.

Bad Idea: Making default behavior of "built in mouse wheel support" set to on key focus

This is just a little rant....
I love new features in Labview, but setting them to be on automatically when they can generate unexpect behaviour is really a bad idea. We recently moved from 2012 to 2013. Suddenly, I have users saying "values are changing and I don't know why". Turns out they were changing a value in a numeric, then attempting to scroll away. Why on earth would NI make this the default behavior??? Luckly for us the value change wasn't too bad but I could think of a few places that a sudden, unplanned change in a numeric could have ruined an experiment.
Off to do alot of work to undo this....

People just love to tell you how you should be doing something, and not focusing on the topic of the thread. If everyone is going to get stuck on the "UI's should not have scroll bars" soap box, see the attached screen shot. This problem arose from a settings pop-up dialog. I could have used tabs, but in this case it makes more sense for the users to move top to bottom in a linear fashion through the process they are setting up.
My point in all this is why would NI make this the default behavior? I like the feature, but it should have been something that a designer has to actively turn on.

Transfer Hard Drive from 20" iMac to 27" iMac - Good or bad idea?

I've just bought my wife a new 27" iMac to replace her 20" iMac. To keep things simple I'd rather just take out the drive in the 20 and put it in the 27. Anyone try this and is there any reason why it wouldn't work since the OS is "universal" for these recent machines?
The reason I don't want to just run with a fresh install (which is what I would prefer to do) is that it's my wifes computer and then she'd have to start new with all her settings etc. While I think the migration asst is a great feature, i've also had other issues doing that that leaves a bit of a mess behind it and some permissions got screwy once.
I may just give it a go and see if it works right away. I'd prefer not to spend lots of time "transferring" files, data, prefs between the old/new machines and just get up and running quickly since her 20" OS install is working great.
Thoughts?

Welcome to Apple Discussions.
*Very bad idea if you intend to use the OS that is on the 20" machine in the 27" machine for a number of reasons*. First you will void your 27" machines warranty and if the 20" has any left it's gone too. Next is you will run into problems with the 27" because the 20's OS is set up for that machine which has totally different specifications. What is wiser is to use Migration Assistant and simply move everything over, this is done when you intially turn on the new machine it will prompt you. If you have already set up the 27" then you can still run Migration Assistant. Just open the application and it will walk you through the process. If you have trouble finding MA simply open Spotlight (upper right corner icon that looks like a spyglass) and type in Migration Assistant.

Did you delete all receipts with iDVD in the file name with either a .PKG or .BOM extension that reside in the HD/Library/Receipts folder and from the /var/db/receipts/ folder before installing the new copy? If not then do so and delete the new application also.

Is it a bad idea to use Time Capsule to access my iTunes music?

I'm thinking about putting all of my music on my time capsule and making iTunes access it through that.
Is this a bad idea for any reason? I'm thinking that there could be a few seconds of delay when playing a song or something, which I don't really mind.
The other thing I thought is that this could be bad because if my Time Capsule fails, then I lose my music, whereas if I store my iTunes music folder on my computer, it will be backed up by Time Machine, and therefore be in 2 safe locations instead of 1.
Anybody have any thoughts/suggestions?

assuming you didn't/don't use photostream I need a couple things cleared up first... did you back up your phone before updating to iOS 6 and if you did, was it on a PC or Mac?

Briansyddal - you might be able to manage your phone without a PC, but many of us can't, especially those of us with large iTunes libraries. How do you propose I manage my 250GB of music using only a phone? Maybe I could go out and buy 10 iPhones and spread my library out among them!
Catz537 - I have the same problem as you and I've spent hours on the web trying to find a solution to it. It was a problem with iOS 7 and 8.1.1 doesn't fix it. The the only advice from Apple is completely useless because it requires you, effectively, to delete and recreate your iTunes library and lose all your metadata, album art, notes etc and there's also no guarantee it will work. I wish I could be more help (even more - I wish Apple could be more help) - I updated to 8.1.1 at 1400 today. At 2200 I'm still "waiting for changes to be applied" for a measly 16GB of music transfer.

1)To check the quantity of components Backflushed with respect to the Yield during partial
confirmation through co11n transaction(against the Production order BOM ).
Scenario:# We reserve components for the production order in batches.
We save production order eventhough component qty is insufficient(don't want to stop
                 production) to fulfil the whole order quantity.
We reserve partial quantity of components through batch split in production order.Open qty
                 will be there in the component overview screen without batch
Our problem : 1) System not backflushing components proportionate to yield qty (batch split
                          component with insufficient component qty)
                      2) No check/error when we post higer goods yield with insufficient component(no error )
OR
can we use the following Enhancement to solve the above problem
CONFPP04    PP order confirmation: Customer-specific input checks 2 (menu path: SPRO> Production>Shop floor control >system modifications>Enhancements for order confirmations--> customer specific input checks with changes)
