Is it a must to migrate 3.x DataSources

Hi,
We have BI 7.0 newly installed, DataSource activated from Business Contents are in 3.X version (e.g. 2LIS_11_VAHDR).
What is the best practice to these 3.x DataSources from Business Content? Is it recommended to migrate them to newer version?
I read some comments that there are risks do to the migration (e.g., transfer/update rules gone missing/not properly migrated) and it will not be supported by SAP after migration.  Is this true?
I believe these 3.x DataSources from Business Contents are quite matured by now.  By doing migration, manual conversion of transfer & update rules to transformation rules may be necessary, and this can significantly increase the development time and additional testing (for something already working in older version) is required.
For new DataSources to be develped, we will definitely follow the new method.

Yes the update and transfer rules will be deleted although you can do back up  and later recover them.

It all depends on when you want to migrate. You could wait until the SAP delivers all the reqd business content for transformations etc but there is no exact timeframe on when that will be happening. Only thing is you will be missing the new 7.0 features.

  • Migration of emulated datasource from 3.5 to BI 7

    Hi Experts,
For a requirement I want to migrate a emulated datasource 0material_attr   to bi 7.Previously some one already developed complete dataflow in 3.x, now i need to migrate every thing in bi 7.In order to make sure do i need to follow any sequence for this migration ( means first transferrule and then updaterule and then datasource) or I can directly migrate datasouce in BI 7 and then create transformation. Please any body suggest me.
    Thanks & Regards

    Hi,
    1.     Migrate all UpdateRules
Select the UpdateRule and press the right mouse button to get the context menu.
    Choose u201CAdditional Functionsu201D and select u201CCreate Transformationu201D.
The UpdateRule is based on a 3.x InfoSource. The Transformation has to be created on a InfoSource (called u201CNew InfoSourceu201D ). A pop-up will ask you if you want to create a new InfoSource as a copy of the existing 3.x InfoSource. We need to have the new InfoSource, therefore choose u201CCopy InfoSource 3.x to New InfoSourceu201D and press enter.
    2.     Migrate all TransferRules, for each relevant Source System Release
The migration of TransferRules is almost the same as the migration of UpdateRules. The main difference is, that you should not create a new InfoSource during the migration process. You have created the InfoSource already in the first step during the migration of the UpdateRule. Reuse the already existing InfoSource. Otherwise the link to the Transformation created before is missing.
Please have in mind that a transformation is source system dependent. Therefore the shadow table logic is the same as already known for the TransferRules. Be aware that you have to build a transformation pointing to a DataSource for each source system release which is needed (Basis release e.g. 620,640,700u2026) .
In order to perform the migration as described at the beginning of this chapter all TransferRules for the required SourceSystem relations must be active in the system.
    3.     Migrate the DataSource. Make sure, that no TransferRule is still using the DataSource .
The migration of the DataSource is the last step which is needed to migrate the whole dataflow. Please make sure that not TransferRules pointing to this DataSource are still in use. How this can be done will be added later to the document.
TransferRules will be deleted when the DataSource is getting migrated. Choose the DataSource and select the Entry u201CMigrateu201D in the context menu.
    4.     Test if everything is ok.
    5.     Delete the UpdateRules and the 3.x InfoSource if the InfoSource in not used by still existing UpdateRules.
    Best regards,
    Frank

  • Migrating myself system datasource

    Hi,
Is it true that we cannot migrate datasources of myself BW system (generated, export datasources) to RSDS type?
I know that new RSDS format is not possible for external datasources like Informatica and DB Connect but is it also true for BW myself datasources?
I am getting this error "Export datasource 80PROFIT_CTR(DBWCLNT001) in myself system: Object type RSDS not possible".
I tried both with export and w/o export.
    Please help
    Thanks

    Example -
Updating data from ODS to Cube
Right click on Data store object-> create transformation ->give the target cube name->give the load option either full or delta-> activate the transformation and load data from ods to cube by clicking execute in third tab

  • Analysis Authorization Migration Question

    Analysis Authorization Migration Question
    This is detail Question
    1)     I am testing Analysis Authorization Migration in NW2004s SP9 and have applied all OSS notes that are relevant to SP09 and are coming in SP10.
    2)     We have 2 Info object flagged as Authorization relevant 0COMP_CODE and 0COSTCENTER
    3)     We have Object level security set-up in BW 3.x system and for a role we have specified values like 0COMP_CODE has value 1000, 1800. “:”. In the same role we have specified 0COSTCENTER value 130001 to 180001, “:”  and hierarchy node.
    4)     When we migrate to Analysis Authorizations, using RSEC_MIGRATION, this program creates 2 Authorizations ZCOCODE00 & ZCOSTCTRH00. Both of them have 0COMP_CODE and 0COST_CENTER Objects.
    5)     ZCOCODE00 authorization gets value 0COMP_CODE values 1000, 1800. “:” and 0COSTCENTER Value “:”.
    6)     On the same line ZCOSTCTRH00 gets value 130001 to 180001, “:”  and 0COMP_CODE “:”.
    1st Question:
    1)     Why does it create 2 Authorizations?
    2)     During Checking it does not pass the authorizations, because it seems to me that it fails in Optimization process.
    3)     I manually merge the authorizations in “ONE” object then authorization check passes.  In other word if I combine ZCOSTCTRH00 & ZCOCODE00 then Query authorization check passes.
Any one is struggling on this.
Please note, I am doing Migration so that it updates existing Profiles (Roles now from SP9).
Any comments will be very help full.
    Pankaj Gupta

    Hello Pankaj
There are some basic misunderstandings on your side.
    Let me try to clarify:
First we should distinguish between migration of authorizations and of what a query does with them.
You had 2 auth objects before migration (in 3.x).
Of course, they must be migrated to 2 new analysis auths.
There is no general possibility to combine authorizations to a single one as the may appear in different roles and users. Moreover this would kill performance and finally, nobody would recognize the origin.
Only in very restricted cases one could think of a combination of auths which come out of migration. But, then people loose overview about what goes on.
Before the corrections in note "Migration IV" the : had not been inserted but now it is for good reasons.
Now, accept for the moment that you receive 2 auths.
Then, you cannnot (must not) combine the 2 resulting authorizations!
    <b>Authorization 1</b>
    COMP_CODE : 1000, 1300, “:”
    Cost Center : “:”
    <b>Authorizations 2</b>
    Comp_Code “:”
    Cost Center : 3100001-31999999; “:” plus a Hierarchy Node.
    This means that e.g. combination
    COMP_CODE 1000
    COST_CENTER 3100001-31999999
<u>is not allowed!!!</u> Therefore, they must not be combined!
Also, the query and its optimization is comepletely independent of the migration. And here, during query run time the auths cannot be combined. It is no failure!
Moreover, the merging optimization is just a performance optimizaiton and has nothing to do with whether the query result is authorized or not.
If you combine them manually you have authorized different combinations.
Well, now you may wonder why you get 2 auths at all which leads to a "no auth" result in the query execution.
The reason is, that in 3.x where you got a result with your 2 auth objects the modeling was wrong.
If you want to authorize any combination of characteristic values, you should combine these characteritics together in one auth object, not in 2!
(In BI7.0 it works like that but not in 3.x)
But you defined 2 which may be valid even in several other InfoProviders independently and not even at the same time. Moreover, the auth objects may come from different roles and may be assigend to different users which then have completely different auth content. In general it is not possible to combine different auth objects or to find out those special situations which nevertheless allow for such optimizations. If you re-do a migration with more objects and users you could even receive different results which is also not satisfying.
Therefore, instead, the mechanism was introduced to insert a : auth to those characteristics that are auth relevant (and checked now with 7.0) but not in the currently processed auth object.
In you special case it may have made sense to combine them but not in general. And a migration can only try to work as general as possible.
For your application you may combine the 2 auths manually if you want to allow also the crossover combinations
    COMP_CODE 1000

  • Can't migrate from old Mac to M Pro

I replaced my old G4 with a new Mac Pro because the Ethernet port died. Could not access Internet, use the LAN, or any sharing with the old computer.
The G4 only has FireWire 400 ports, Pro has only 800. Could USB ports be used for migration (even if would be slow)?
Lion won't show the library files so could manually transfer bookmarks, address book, calendar data as I did with another computer to a new one with snow leopard. Apple might have thought there was a good reason to hide the library files, but in cases like this it is a big pain in the backside!
I synced my iPad with the older computer last night so the current calendar, address book, and iTunes (old computer actually has 3 different iTunes libraries to transfer) are up to date on the iPad and old computer.
Items that must be migrated are the usual items - iTunes, iCal, address book, mail, and safari bookmarks/plugins and keychain. All /user/library files of the old Mac are on a external firewire drive that is now connected to the new machine. Migration Assistant wouldn't recognize the drive.
This is the worst ever upgrade experience in 25 years with a Mac. My mail (9 email accounts) and calendars are for personal and business and being done on my iPad. I need to have this migration completed!!!!!

Can you boot the g4 in target disk mode?  If so then you could connect the usb's (or fw400/fw800 cable) and access the disk that way.  My theory anyway.
Oh, by the way, you can use the chflags or setfile (if it's avaialbe) command in terminal to "fix" apple's "mistake".
    chflags nohidden ~/Library
    or
    setfile -a v ~/Library

  • Question about messaging 6.3 migration

    Hi!
We have a distibuted messaging architecture ( 2 MTA IN, 2 MTA OUT, 2 MMP, 3 message store, 2 ldaps), we have messaging 5.2 and Directory 5.2 too, we would like to change to messaging 6.3 and ldap 6, what could be the best way to do the migration?
I have new machines to install the new software, i was thinking first to install directory server in the new machine and then migrate all users to the new installation, then install 1 message store, and 1 multiplexor.. Is it possible to have 1 message store, and 1 mux, mtas with messaging 6.3 and work at the same time with the old servers (messaging 5.2), such that the migration could be done incrementaly in order to reduce the time of the service out.
    thanks

    Hi,

I have a very similar Messenger setup as mess_user. Are you planning on an in-place migration or migrating to new servers?
If you are going down the in-place migration path then I suggest you refer to the upgrade guide:
    http://docs.sun.com/app/docs/doc/819-7561
( 2 MTA IN, 2 MTA OUT, 3 MMP, 2 message store, 4 ldaps), we have messaging 6.1 and Directory 5.2.
However, we are using the messenger express web interface. What will be the preferred upgrade path for these systems then ?This was discussed here:
    http://forum.java.sun.com/thread.jspa?threadID=5229681
My original plan was to migrate:
    1) LDAP servers to 6.2. I was also planning to migrate suffix o=netscaperoot to keep consistency. However i was thinking of just migrating my read only ds servers to 6.2 (dropping o=netscaperoot) and keeping the masters as 5.2 until all of mmps and mstores has been migrated.
What do you think of that?Sounds like a plan. Please note however that for PAB (o=pab) access you should point messaging server to a master directory (local.service.pab.ldaphost).
    2) migrate MTAs (thats all they are MTAS no LMTP) to 6.3.
    3) Migrate MMPs (due to the new express workflow)
    4) Migrate the mstores. The mail-stores must be migrated prior to migrating the MEM's as I discussed in http://forum.java.sun.com/thread.jspa?threadID=5229681.
So the order would be the reverse of what you have above.
    Regards,
    Shane.
p.s. I would recommend waiting out for patch 120228-26 before attempting this migration as it has the fix for bug #6618926 - "Messenger express returns error 'Message no longer exists'"

  • HT1338 intel core duo / can't migrate to icloud?

Hi.  I would like some help in clarifying please.  I have an older Macbook with an Intel Core Duo running Snow Leopard.  I can't upgrade to Lion.  I have used my .mac account/Mobileme for years primarily for email purposes, idisk, and the gallery (I understand the idisk and gallery are being discontinued).  I'm trying to understand whether I can migrate to icloud and/or whether I really need it.  I don't have any other devices that I need to sync with.  I've already copied my idisk onto my hard drive and I'm not too worried about the gallery because I have my photos and movies stored elsewhere.
    Questions:
    1. Do I need to migrate to icloud in order to keep my @mac and @me email addresses?
    2. Will the @mac email address be discontinued after June 30 (assuming I've migrated to icloud)?
    3. Is it physically possible for me to migrate to icloud if I am using Snow Leopard?  If so, do I follow the steps as outlined on the main migration page (i.e. acknowledge that I'm using the required software)?
I believe there may be a workaround to #3 but am not sure if that's what I'm looking for.  Thank you for your help.

    Answers:
    1. Yes (http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4597). MobileMe accounts must be migrated before the end of MobileMe otherwise they end along with the service.
    2. No. (http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4597)
    3. I haven't done it recently but yes.
-- You will need to update the mail server settings in your Mail program once the migration is complete as iCloud uses a different set of mail servers than MobileMe: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4864.

  • ODBC Error when migrating from SQL Server 2008 to SQL Anywhere 12

    Hello community,
    i have the following requirement:
I need to migrate a Database with some Demo data into a SQL Anywhere 12 Database. The SQL Anywhere 12 Database is part of the SAP BusinessObjects Enterprise XI 3.1 SP7 installation and came with the same as OEM Product.
The Environment looks like the following:
    DB1 is a MS SQL Server 2008 R2 64 Bit running on Windows Server 2008 R2 64 Bit.
DB2 is the SAP BusinessObjects Enterprise XI 3.1 SP7 installation with the shipped SQL Anywhere 12 (12.0.1.3873) Database running on SLES 11.3 64 Bit
CL1 is my Windows 7 64 Bit Client where Sybase Central is installed in 64 Bit. On CL1 i have a 64 Bit System ODBC Connection connecting to DB1 successfully.
Basically i followed the following (pretty straight forward) tutorial:
Migrating a SQL Server Database to SQL Anywhere White Paper-Technical: Mobile Enterprise, Database Management iAnywhere …
When i want to test the connection from inside Sybase Central (During the migration process) i receive the following error:
From inside Sybase Central my connection looks as follows:
And from the ODBC Manager the connection looks as follows:
Personally i found is strange that the Sybase ODBC Driver Manager drops the error. I would expect that the MS SQL ODBC Driver Manager pops the error it its related to the ODBC DSN to DB1.
    Any ideas?
    Thanks and Regards
    -Seb.

    Hi Sebastian,
The data from the SQL Server database must be migrated to an existing SQL Anywhere database.  Could you please tell me where this SQL Anywhere database resides and how are you connecting to it?
The error message is saying that the connection to the SQL Anywhere remote database server is failing, as opposed to the connection to the SQL Server database.

1.Just build a new domain controller as a ADC before
installing exchange server 2010 and complete the replication.

  • Drop EM Repository 1.x without migrating it

I am running Oracle 9i 9.2.0.8 database. The repository tables exist in two application schemas and the system schema. I recently inherited this database. The sysman schema does not exist. I think it is an Enterprise Manager repository because the tables start with EVT_ and SMP_ I just want to remove the EM repository tables, views, etc.
I read in the documentation that EM Configuration Assistant cannot upgrade or drop a 1.x repository. It must be migrated using EM Migration Assistant first. I verified this in EM configuration assistant. It shows no repositories to drop.
How can I drop a 1.x repository without going through the migration to 2.2 and then dropping it?

I did find another schema owner that had the 1.x repository objects only. Then I wrote a query to find the matched objects between my application schema and the repository-only schema. I deleted the matched objects from my application schema. Then I dropped the repository-only schema.
    I found a command to drop a 1.x repository from a version 8 database:
    $ORACLE_HOME\bin\vobsh -c "userid/pw@sid" -o drop -p "Enterprise Manager"
but that command does not exist on my server. So, the manual technique works well enough.

  • Uninstall or Migrate CA from Win2003 DC

I have an old Win2003 DC that has a CA running on it.  I think it was installed specifically for RADIUS use with authenticated Wifi clients on a Cisco WLC.  The Win2003 DC is now the last of the Win2003 Servers on the domain and
am looking at getting everything of value migrated from it so that it can be retired.  In looking at the CA, if I stop the service, I get errors logged on the Win2008 DCs.  So there is something being issued from the Win2003CA in regards to
replication I guess, but not sure, because the certificate that I can see in the console expired earlier this year.  I know that this domain existed without a CA installed anywhere for several years though.
I would like to get the CA off this Server.  Is it possible to just uninstall/decommision the CA and install a new CA on another server or must I migrate this one?  And if I must migrate it, how can I put the CA on a Server
with a different name? I think the only reason that I need a CA at all is for RADIUS use for WiFi authentication.
    Thanks for any help.

if your CA is used only for RADIUS (server certificate), then it is easier to uninstall and decommission CA server and install a new one on a separate server. Also, migration procedure exists too, but it is not that simple. Here are docs for:

    Hi friends,
I am trying to migrate Sales DataFlow. As per the steps, when i am trying to transform Update rules and Transfer Rules , system is prompting " Before Rules Can Be Copied, You Must Select an InfoSource" . But i heard IS is optional in BI7.0. So what shall i do here?? how to proceed to transform these UR and TR without using Infosource.
Can any body have some doc with steps to migrate any dataflow to BI7.0 , please send me to my id [email protected]
    Please suggest some thing.

    Murthy,
Did you converted your 3.x Data source to 7.0 Data source or not. If you have already converted you dont need to select any infosource. Goto the Tcode RSDS and migrate 3.x datasource to 7.0 and try to create the transformation rule.

  • Migrating from Informix 9.4 to Oracle 9.2

    Hi
I need to migrate a database from Informix 9.4 to Oracle 9.2.
There are a third-part application that must be migrated that always run in Oracle databases in others customers.
I have a script (supplied for the third) to create the objects in Oracle (+- 1200 tables that will be created only with PKs to improve performance).
My question is: Can I use the migration workbench only to load the data (45 GB)? If no, what can I do to minimize the work?

    Hello,
Yes this is possible. You need to capture your source Informix database and map it to the Oracle Model using the Migration Workbench. Then you can generate the data unload scripts and SQL*Loader scripts to get the data our of your source database and into the destination Oracle database. For more information on how to do this, please see Chapters 4, 5 and 6 in the Oracle Migration Workbench User's Guide. You can find this document on the OTN Web site at:
