You can use Apply Style, then next style to format each contact all at once. If all of the address info is exactly 4 lines long, you could have the phone number in a separate style, with Name as its next style. You could then style the whole list in one motion.

    Hello,
    Is there a way to copy/paste text in Photoshop without keeping formatting (font, size, color, etc)?
    I found this feature very annoying.
    Is there a way to turn it off?
    Thanks.

    You can use this simple workariound:
    copy the desired text  and paste it in a simple text editor app like notepad (win) or textedit (mac).
    Then copy this unformatted text and paste it in photohop.

    Hi Saud,
    Try the below script.
    var activeDoc = app.activeDocument;

    app.findGrepPreferences.appliedParagraphStyle = "XXXX";//Give your paragraph Style name here

  • [CS3] How to cut/copy/paste text frame without link

    Hi All,
    Please tell me how I will cut/copy and paste text frame with ignoring or removing links of text frame.
    After copying, the original text frame must contain its link but the newly create text frame should contain any link.
    Thanks,
    Aman Alam

    hey thanks for responding. pasting through text edit works, but if i just copy from the quote block and paste in the top of the message body, it keeps the quote formatting. if i Paste as Quotation, then it double-quotes it--two side bars...
    i guess part of the problem that i just realized, too, is that Mail must convert a message to rich text if you choose to quote text in a reply. because otherwise it could not possibly color the text, right? when i paste out of Mail and into Text Edit, the text color i saw in mail is preserved, meaning the text itself must contain formatting data (rich text).
    is there no way to reply to a mail and include the previous message as a quote without switching to rich text?

  • Problem changing and creating paragraph styles in Pages

    When using paragraph styles I come up against several problems that I haven't been able to figure out with the help menu:
    1. When I change a para with the style list it doesn't change the para to the chosen parameters. It changes for instance the font but not the size. How do I make sure that the chosen text gets changed completely?
    2. When I want to create a new style from selection it does not create a style that turns up in future lists. I only get to choose what is already somewhere in the text I am writing and what seems to be a default list that shows up with every new document. To change to something else I have to find a text that has the format I want, copy a piece of it, put it into the text I am working on and then try and change the paragraph style. How can I make sure that I have the styles I want at my disposal whatever I am working on? Can I somehow edit the choices in the style drawer?
    3. When looking at the help menu, this is the beginning of an instruction:
    +To apply a style to one or more paragraphs, select the paragraphs you want to change, or select an entire text box, table, table cell, or shape that contains text. Click the Paragraph Styles button in the format bar, and then choose the style you want to apply+
    Now, where do I find the paragraph styles button and where is the format bar? I clicked my way through numerous drop down menus but haven't found what this is referring to.
    Would be grateful for any hints, and please keep your explanations simple enough. I need instructions for dummies Thanks in advance!

    Double click on the style name in the styles drawer to completely force the style onto the selected text. This will however eliminate any bolding, italics, underlining etc.
    2. When I want to create a new style from selection it does not create a style that turns up in future lists. To add a style to the Styles Drawer, format your text, then click on the little red triangle next to the style in the drawer and choose New from selection giving it a name.
    You can also change the name of the style by right clicking on the name and selecting Rename. This is not always available as some names are reserved.
    Each document has its own definitions of the styles. You can import Styles from other documents:
    +Menu > Format > Import Styles… > Browse to a document with the styles and select those you want to copy over+
    3. When looking at the help menu, this is the beginning of an instruction:

    It is the reversed blue P on the Toolbar, also +Menu > View > Show Styles Drawer+

    I assume you are referring to the toolbar at the top of the window.
    I clicked my way through numerous drop down menus but haven't found what this is referring to.

  • Find and replace paragraph style

    I am creating a javascript for InDesign in order to search and replace some text. The text I am looking for has to be in a certain Paragraph style.
    This is what I have so far:
    app.findTextPreferences = app.changeTextPreferences = null;
    app.findTextPreferences.findWhat = '^p'
    app.changeTextPreferences.changeTo = ';'
    app.activeDocument.changeText();
    I need to find/change a return of a certain paragraph style to a semi colon. What is the script that I would use to search for paragraph style?

    try:
    app.findTextPreferences.appliedParagraphStyle = 'para style';
    If you want to replace the para style, use:
    app.changeTextPreferences.appliedParagraphStyle = 'new para style'

    InDesign CS2 does not support GREP search/replace, so every line in your code that points to GREP does not work.
    Further: "app.findTextPreferences" and "app.changeTextPreferences" were "app.findPreferences" and "app.changePreferences" in InDesign CS2. And then there were no "findChangeTextOptions" or any counterpart for that in CS2…

  • How to copy and paste text into email without HTML gibberish

    I've had trouble for some time now copying and pasting text into and out of yahoo emails. I can't just copy and paste text, I have to first transfer to Word for Mac and then paste into a yahoo email. Then I end up with what looks like three lines of HTML gibberish at the start of the pasted text each time. Isn't there a clean and direct way of copy and paste of text into and from emails in yahoo? No other email I work with has this problem, and the Safari browser doesn't give this same issue

    I have to agree with bmalmquist.  Need for Speed seems to work great on the Playbook.  I didn't buy the Playbook to play games though.  RIM needs to shift their focus from games to useful and productive apps.  The apps I need to use are either missing very important features, or are just completely missing.  It is somewhat disconcerting to see new apps appear in App World only to discover that the new apps are mostly games.  I'm seeing lots of apps that would help me waste time, but very few that will actually help me be more productive.

  • Creating a new paragraph style based on text in a document

    I'm working on some scripts for a new ad our company is working on. They are wanting to have the ability to change the font weekly in the ads. However, they want the style sheets to change based on this. What I am having to do is write a script that gets the properties of the different paragraphs in the selected text frame, and make paragraph styles. Is there a way to get the properties of paragraph 1, and use that information to make a new paragraph style? Here is what I have so far;
    set charaStyle to get properties of character charaSelect of paragraph paraOne of myBox
    set makeStyle to make character style with properties {name:"MF Price" & charaSelect, based on:properties of character charaSelect}
    We are using InDesign CS 3. Thank you in advance for the help.

    this way - build ParaStyle definition from selected text - works only in UI
    in scripting you need to write your own procedure - read all params and set them one-by-one in ParaStyle definition

  • How to handle paragraph styles in imported text with no tagged paragraph styles

    Hi
    Im currently trying to import a file (word file / excel I have both formats) into an indesign book and formatting the text automatically!
    My question is: How is it possible to reflow text into frames and when changing frame it changes paragraph?
    Or how is it possible to change paragraph style when forcing a line break when using text reflow?
    I have already figured out how to reflow the text, and actually also managed to relow text into the frames and change paragraph style. I know how to use the keep option, and by this change the paragraph style when e.g. changing frame break/page break etc.  (but if the content being flowed-in is not tagged with style names then I cannot figure out how to do it) The document and its content I whish to import do not have any tagged paragraphs!
    Then I tried to look into "object styles" and format a text frame on a master page with an object style, and by using a "dilimiter character" forcing the text to start in a new frame when bringing the frame into live on a page. But here I cannot make the "text frame/object style" to apply or to work.
    If any of you have a hint, I would be more than happy to hear from you
    This picture are illustrating the outcome I would to get to....

    If the incoming text does not have styles, or has only one style, there is really not much you can do other than assign styles after the import. If there are recognizable patterns in the formatting, a lot of that can be done with Find/Change, and there are a few scripts floating around that can help automate some of that.
    Also, if your styles have a a good "next style" heirarchy built in, you can select large blocks of text (up to the point where applying next style would be incorrect), then right click the style name in the paragraph styles panel and choose apply style and next style (remove overrides). Warning. Removing overrides will remove any locally applied formatting like bold or italics, so local formatting should be converted to character styles first. Applied character styles are not overrides and will be preserved.

  • Tagging character styles and paragraph styles in inDesign

    I'm working on a complex book in which everything on the pages is styled.
    I've been asked to tag the vocabulary terms in the text, so that the correct page number shows up in the index.
    I've been asked to tag the folios as well, for the table of contents.
    The folios are a paragraph style.
    The vocabulary terms are styled with a character style.
    How do I do this?
    Any help much appreciated.

    InDesign's built-in Table of Contents function picks up text based on paragraph styles. I'm not sure you really men, though, that you want to pick up the folios, if you are using the term as I understand it, to mean the page numbers. You really want to pick up the various headings used to identify the topics or titles. ID will supply the page numbers.
    As for the indexing, there may be a script that can find text with a particular character style assigned and add it to an index (you should ask over in the scripting forum: InDesign Scripting) but you should also read the Help on Indexes and learn more about how they operate.

  • Script to determine number of lines of text in a paragraph?

    I'm revisiting an issue I first posted here last summer, thanks to all who offered help, but I've not been able to sort it out.
    http://forums.adobe.com/thread/455526?tstart=0
    What I'm after is  a 'search function' to insert into a FindChangeByList.
    Jongware suggested the following - but when inserted into my list I can't get it to do anything - it doesn't throw up a Javascript error.
    app.findTextPreferences = NothingEnum.nothing;
    app.findTextPreferences.appliedParagraphStyle = "Callout_3";
    foundItems = app.activeDocument.findText();
    for (var i=foundItems.length-1; i>=0; i--)
      if (foundItems[i].paragraphs[0].lines == 2)
        foundItems[i].paragraphs[0].appliedParagraphStyle = "Callout_2";
      if (foundItems[i].paragraphs[0].lines == 1)
        foundItems[i].paragraphs[0].appliedParagraphStyle = "Callout_1";
    I regularly receive a 'word' document on which I run a 'FindChangeByList' which cleans up and formats the text with a number of GREP/text searches.
    One of the search lines converts a particluar string of text to a paragraph style "Callout_3" (the most common occurence of Callouts).
    This style applies a paragraph rule, above and below the line, to create a coloured block/band out of which said text is reveresed.
    The problem that I have is that the style (because of the paragraph rules), only works correctly if the paragraph has x3 lines of text.
    I have styles set up for every other eventuality - Callout_1 (for single line of text), Callout_2 (for x2 lines of text) etc.
    What I'm looking for is a script that can count the number of lines in the paragraph (once the "Callout_3" style has been applied) and then change the style accordingly to the number of lines in each paragraph/Callout.
    Any further thoughts?
    Steve

    Hi Steve!
    Well, I said it was untested ... Found two major errors. First one is also visible when you manually search for the style "Callout_3". Rather than marking each and every paragraph on its own, InDesign gathers as much as possible. Hence, just testing paragraph[0] would miss out all other paragraphs. Explicitly looping over all paragraphs per "found item" does work.
    The other one is sort of a "syntax" error. Merely testing "lines == 2" does not work -- but it doesn't give an error either! Apparently, it's okay to compare an object ("lines") to a number, even though it doesn't work. The property to check is "lines.length" -- that returns the number of lines for a paragraph.
    Putting it all together results in this script.
    'And now I shall test it,' said Wen. This time he twisted it gently to and fro. 'That si-si-si That simple-ple, eh eheh simple, eh?'
    ... And I tested it.
    app.findTextPreferences = NothingEnum.nothing;
    app.findTextPreferences.appliedParagraphStyle = "Callout_3";
    foundItems = app.activeDocument.findText();
    for (var i=foundItems.length-1; i>=0; i--)
    for (var j=0; j<foundItems[i].paragraphs.length; j++)
      if (foundItems[i].paragraphs[j].lines.length == 2)
       foundItems[i].paragraphs[j].appliedParagraphStyle = "Callout_2";
      if (foundItems[i].paragraphs[j].lines.length == 1)
       foundItems[i].paragraphs[j].appliedParagraphStyle = "Callout_1";
