Is it a wise decision to use flash for e-Learning course.
Dear Friends,
Iam working for a company which is developing e-learning courses in Flash with AS3, Learning management system in dot net. There was a discussion with my superior, one guy was telling nowadays flash users reduced, in future flash will be outdated. This is not a wise decision to use flash for e-Learning.
Another issue is we cannot show our courses in ipad or Iphone.. please pass your comments and ideas to me. and suggest me, whether how can i use my swf courses in to ipad or iphone or tablets... Tell me whether iam in a right way.
i need another info, Whether silver light will be an alternate to create elearning courses with interactivity? That guy suggested Silverlight (because he is a dot net guy).
i need ur serious advice and info. Please tell me, list of companies using flash for Elearning development.
Kindly advice me whether i can continue my courses in Flash with AS3 or should i stop and change my work environment.
Regards,
Syed Abdul Rahim
The contents of what you're trying to teach make all the difference.
Are your tests very visual requiring interactivity with visual objects and media or are you just asking questions with various form-esque inputs (text inputs, radio inputs, etc)?
If it's very visual then it's worth considering AIR to some small extent but you'd really need to have a lot of time invested for that.
Ultimately I'd be converting it to HTML5/JS/CSS3. That's the 99.9% positivity rated presumption I'll make. As a general consideration, where Flash may previously have been used to "grade" a paper or tell the user their current answer is correct, this might need to change. You should be sending the users answer to a server to get a response. JavaScript is plain-text and can be read so you'd want to curb cheating by making sure the server contains the answers and not the client. This is an automation you'll lose by abandoning SWF.
I use C#.NET myself and I'd avoid silverlight like the plague. Let's be very clear here. Flash is not going away. They are repositioning themselves to handle more sophisticated endeavors in the future like full 3d games. Flash is auto-installed with the OS, the user base is not getting smaller. Silverlight almost never had a purpose to begin with, besides Microsoft just wanted a sandbox to play in itself. Windows Metro is the only potential obstacle in the future as it has been said to load SWF content externally, like an application, rather than embedded into the browser.

Can i use flash for ui and interact with c++ builder for the rest
i know flash can be used in c# in visual studio but i dont remember a thing of this interaction.
is it possible to interact with c++ builder and how?
the scenario is simple
use flash for UI (showing-viewing data) maybe for a kiosk or something without mouse simply with touch input,
use c++ builder for the rest , database connection data proccessing etc
any info will be greatly appreciated
thanksI would advise proper punctuation and grammar on a public forum, but to answer your questions, yes, yes you can! Flash can be used to produce any commercial imagery or animations for the purpose of making profit, as long as you have a valid license you purchased from Adobe. You bought it, you can use it for whatever you want.
By "book", I assume you mean the "tutorial" book series made by Adobe? If so, the name of the series is "Classroom in a Book", there's one for each versions of Flash. Personally it hasn't been of much use and I would advise simply practicing by yourself and getting familiar with the tools. Look for online tutorials and publicly available projects and see how they work. -
Using flash for synchronization
Hi,
Flash does a great job at abstracting out data storage requirement across multiple browsers. But my concern is whether it provides data access synchronization. Lets say i've multiple tabs/windows loading the same swf file (loaded from the same domainA in a page from domainB). What is the behavior if they start writing onto LSO (local shared object) simultaneously. If you see, its basically multiple reader/writer problem that browsers are incapable of handling (until HTML5). Can flash really help? I understand that flash also follows single threaded model but i was just wondering if there is a semantic in actionscript or otherwise that could be of help here.
Thanks in advance.

I have tried everything. uninstall reinstall. I couldn't test for flash because the function wouldn't work. I uninstalled Firefox twice and uninstalled flash twice. I cleared history, etc. I called my tech support for my multiple listing service, since I can't even log on without flash. He checked everything, and told me he couldn't figure out why it is not working. the plugin for shockwave flash is there. I know flash is on my machine because when I tried to install it after installing it this morning, it said it was already installed with the latest version. Later on I uninstalled and reinstalled twice. Flash works on Safari and Chrome. Only Firefox has this problem. I am very frustrated. I had to use Safari to even use your "ask a question" since Firefox uses flash to ask a question!!!!! HELP!!!!!!!!
Thank you. Here you go!

I need to use flash for language studies, please help
what to use to get flash for language study?
Flash is not supported on the iPad - and as Adobe have announced that they are stopping development on all mobile versions of it, it probably never will be.
Do the sites that you want to use have non-flash versions and/or have their own app in the iTunes app store ? If not then browser apps such as Skyfire, iSwifter, Puffin and Photon 'work' on some sites, but judging by their reviews not all sites. -
Iphone 4s turns off when using flash for photograph
so here is my problem. i have an iPhone 4s 16gb bought back at launch in 2011. since updating to ios6 i have this dumb issue.. whenever i try and click a photo using the stock camera app (with FLASH) the phone (sometimes) just turns itself off and when i try turning it back on, it tells me i need to connect it for charging (regardless of how much juice is remaining).. when i try turning it on after a few minutes it boots up normally with the amount of battery it had prior to the shut down.. i thought that the new software updates might solve this issue but it hasnt at all.. i have searched these forums and it seems im not the only one having this issue.. even upgrading to ios7 did nothing and its still the same.. it was working fine when i had ios5 out of the box.. also when i use flash (in a low light enviorment) the images are completely washed out/ heavily overexposed.. i mean you can only see the 4 corners of the picture.. i have no covers etc on the phone just fyi.. btw this only happenes in the stock ios camera app and not any of the 3rd party apps that i have tried.. also when i use the new quick flashlight it works perfectly without issue till the battery really drians out (just fyi for a perspective).. is there like a fix that im unaware about? or apple doesn't care about 4s people anymore??
Same thing happening here.
iphone4s 64gb switches off when taking pictures (sometimes) (often enough to be annoying!)
always with 10-40% of battery remaining
it shows flat battery animation and will NOT switch on, even if holding both buttons for 2mins+
but it turns on immediately when i connect charger, no waiting to charge
and immediately shows 10-50% of battery that i knew it had
it also did it once when playing music and then someone called me
device switched off when i pressed answer button
i am on 5.1.1 but know others on forums running 6.0.1 with same problem
so telling me to update will be pretty stupid advice
it did not happen on 5.0 (but that was when battery was new - 4 months old!)
had device for 13 months so warranty/swap is out of the question
as i paid £270 upfront for the device and still have to pay £37 per month to o2-UK for another year
i find it disgusting that i would have to pay to have it fixed/swapped considering its not my fault
im actually looking for a definite fix for this
NOT the usual 'take it to apple store' babble as i cant afford that
but we all know im not gonna get one.... -
Tips/Hints re: using flash for live title graphics and visualisations
Hi guys, this is my first post. I'm a design student from New Zealand, with a reasonably basic knowledge of flash, I've built a few relatively simple flash sites and applications for example.
I got a job the other day to produce live title graphics for a fashion show, and think flash can do the trick. Before i started i wanted to jump on here and see if you guys know of any interesting tutorials etc that could help me out? computerarts has a few on using live video/sound to create animation. I also need a way to transition pages without a set time, almost a crossfader- as the show is not timed exactly.
Any tips or hints would be much appreciated!!!
cheers
bradwhile thanking u for the tips which were very useful I want to know if i can create batch files for often repeated activites and put them into action from my desktop ----raj

Advice/opinions on best way to use Flash for website
Hi
I am working on an animation in After Effects (dimensions 1000px x 350px) which will sit in the masthead area of a website. I intend to render from After Effects as a flv (or as uncompressed avi and then convert to flv) and then import this into a mc and export as a swf to be placed in the masthead. However, I would be grateful for some feedback/suggestions on a couple of points...
My guess is that the final swf of flv will be about 9mb, which is quite hefty. I need the quality to be good and crisp. If you look at the excellent CS5 trailer on the adobe.com home page you will get an idea as to the quality I need. I'm guessing this is a fairly large file yet it plays great with hardly any pre-load. Any ideas how they achieve this? Using Media Server or streaming video isn't an option for me, only bog-standard progressive download.
One thing I thought was to break the animation down into a number of swfs and load these one after another. It needs to be seamless. Would that work - any ideas?
Ok, hope this post isn't too rambling. I'm excited about the project, but I could do with some ideas as how best to get a good looking video or swf to play in the masthead without long preloads etc.
Thanks in advance. It will probably be easier to manage if you make each section a moiveclip by itself, That way you aren't always manipulating the main timeline to fit in or adjust for changes in each section. You can either spread them out along the timeline, using frame comands to navigate to the different sections, or you can have them all in one frame and control navigation by controlling the visibility of each section.
If the frame you mention is to be applied to each section, then having one on the main timeline to cover all would be easier to manage in most cases. -

Can anyone help me with flash buttons? I am trying to build
my first website, and my five flash buttons (inside a 5 col. table)
for page navigation work fine in testing all 5 web pages with
mozilla firefox, and they look the same on the index page when
testing with IE-7. However when I begin navigating to other pages
in IE-7, the flash buttons disappear, and the 5 cols in the table
where each flash button was placed now are not equal sizes anymore
like they are on the index page. In my files area on the right, I
notice 3 out of the five buttons I created have about 15 to 20
"generations" shown there, with numbers 1 through 15 or even more
to qualify them tacked on to the end of the names. Where do these
come from, and why are 2 out of the five only have 1 "generation"
each? I never expected this, and I think it has something to do
with the problem, but maybe not. Please help me if you can!If you want to use Flash for navigation, consider this -
1. Some people don't have Flash installed - what do they do?
2. Search engines don't parse Flash links - your site will
not be spidered
3. Screen assistive devices don't parse Flash links - what
will those users
do?
4. DW cannot maintain links within a Flash movie, so if you
move or rename
a linked file, your navigation will break - what will you do?
It's usually a very bad idea for these reasons...
Your problem is caused by navigating away from the previewed
page. In
general, this is not a good thing to do, since root relative
links will not
work as expected when you do that (locally).

Cursor disappears when a video using Flash is in Safari
Hello,
My cursor disappears whenever I'm on a web page (using Safari) that uses Flash for video. It is 100% repeatable on any Flash/video website. On my other machine (an iMac running Snow Leopard) this does not happen.
If you would like to see what I'm talking about, as an example, go here:
http://vimeo.com/
Let the page load so that the "introductory" video can play. While it's playing, move your cursor anywhere on top of the video that's playing and watch it disappear. It's hard to find it again.
Any thoughts? Thanks.
(I'm using a MacBook Pro. Operating system is 10.7.1 Lion. All software updates are complete. The battery is charged, the computer is turned on, and it is plugged into electricity. I did a search of this forum and found one other question regarding this same topic, but nobody had answered it.)The behaviour I get is that if the cursor is left on top of the video, it disappears after a second or two. As soon as I move the mouse or trackpad, it reappears. Which is exactly what I would want to happen. Perhaps when you are "waking up" the cursor you are doing so with a large random movement of the trackpad? It only takes the slightest movement to make it reappear more or less where you left it.
There is, of course, always the option of parking the cursor somewhere else on the screen where you will not lose it. -
What are the advantages of me using flash?
I want to know the advantages of me using flash for my website. Please tell me all of them. In my opinion, flash loads slowly and is very ineffective but I want to know what you all think of it.
Show your website or describe its use cases (target platform, moble/desktop, features, databaseusage), what kind of developer skills are you bringing to the table (beginner, intermediate, experienced) then we can give you advice if Flash fits the requirements profile.

Learn Flash or re-learn Director
I used to do a lot of stuff in Director about 5 years ago.
Then, I stopped and did nothing but print. My new company wants me
to do some multimedia stuff and I am not sure if I should stick
with Director. I can still get around (mostly) but I have forgotten
a LOT (getting older does not help!) and it's gonna take a while to
get back up to speed.
It looks like there is very little going on Director-wise
these days. Even on Adobe's website, you have to click into a
secondary product area to even find it! So I am wondering if maybe
I should forget about using Director and just try to learn Flash?
Am I mistaken? I sure would LIKE to be, as I have always prefered
Director to Flash. Thanks much!
Oh, I am mostly displaying video on CD and intranet, creating
navigation for archiving pdfs and that sort of thing. Nothing
"cutting-edge" by any stretch.I've been using Flash for about 7 years, Director for over
15. I've built many industrial strength applications in both. My
impression is that the average task can be approached in 50
different ways in Director, all of which will work -- and 50
different ways in Flash, only one of which will work, and you have
to go through all 49 others before you find it.
Flash also, though purportedly a designer's tool, ironically
breaks every rule of user interface design itself.
Examples:
- The same hotkey means different things depending on which
window is active -- and there's not always a visual indication of
which window that is.
- Some windows are always in front, some are not.
- How many times does "timeline" appear in different
cascading menus? Six? Seven?
- The hotkeys for many (but not all) of the most commonly
used functions have vanished from the menus, even though they still
work.
- There are different and easily confused mouse interaction
events available for movie clips vs. buttons (e.g., press vs.
mouseDown). It would appear that rollover is not available for
movie clips, as it does not appear in Script Assist, yet it is.
- And which of these two lines would you rather have to
debug?
Director: repeat with i = 1 to 100
or
Flash: for (i=1; i<=100; i++) {
I really didn't want to turn this into an anti-Flash screed.
All in all, I love some of what Flash can do, I really do -- but I
find it a brittle, fragile, counterintuitive environment. In my
experience, Director just works. Flash fights me every step of the
way.
Please take with a kilo of salt, YMMV, all that...
