Is it able to integrate client-server applicactions?.

For example a visual basic application, inserting all the files needed (reports, exes, inis, etc) in a portlet provider and access it from the portal, also including the database in the portlet provider as well. So you can run the aplication in a browser, or putting the application in the application server and access it from the portal?.
Thak you.

Hi Mark,
Thanks for the reply.
My situation is like this.Suppose we have an advertisement server where we maintain all kinds of branding and advertisement for campaign.
Now I want to show this advertisement to the customer(either moving pictures or static picture) on my b2b or b2c site.Is it possible.
If possible is this interface standard in SAP or we have to do some coding for that.
Thanks

  • WARNING - Oracle intends to desupport Forms client server mode

When Forms 6i becomes desupported you will have to move to Forms 9i. Forms 9i runtime can only be run in web mode from a web browser. You will not be able to run client-server forms in native operating systems such as Windows or Unix. The forms will essentially run on the application server with Java applets to being sent to your web browser. Links to third party products will no longer work with host commands executing on your local machine. You will have to include Java code to make local commands work.
The transition from Forms 6i client-server to Forms 9i web mode will be one of the most painful upgrades Oracle has ever inflicted on its customers.
Essentially, Oracle is trying to palm us off with running forms from web browsers whether we or our customers like it or not. Java seems to be creeping in. I suspect Developer will eventually turn into JDeveloper, as they will not want to support two products. Easy one line statements and built-ins will be replaced by hundreds of lines of Java nonsense. Developer will move from a 4GL RAD environment to a cumbersome bloated 3GL Java environment.
You can stop this happening if you want to keep you customers happy by:
    1. Sending Oracle enhancement requests to allow Forms 9i to run in native client-server mode.
    2. Complaining to your Oracle sales contact.
    3. Asking difficult questions at Oracle user groups.

    Duncan et al.,
I've been wondering why exactly a Forms9i app. needs to run in a web page? Why could the applet not be deployed in a more "standalone" fashion, i.e., an independent application window. This would at least offer the appearance of a native application, complete with the new Java look-and-feel.
If Oracle really wanted make their customers happy, they would then take the next step and come up with a way to embed OC4J into a client-side deployment executable, which would then effectively allow for a 2-tier client-server architecture.
It seems to me that 2-tier/3-tier each have their place in the world, depending on the situation. In the extreme "2-tier" example would be an application that is to be deployed on a single client workstation. It would be hard to argue that a separate application server ought to be used. On the other extreme, anybody who has tried to manage the deployment--and upgrade--of a large number of Forms clients is very attracted to the prospect of only having to maintain and upgrade a few application servers.
I agree with the direction of the product as far as replacing Toolkit2 and the native runtime with the JRE. The advantage of on-demand updating of application code is compelling. The capability of moving application logic to the middle tier is extremely useful. Platform independence is now done using the "universal" JRE instead of TK2.
If the product could maintain the client-side processing capability--without resorting to Javabeans--it would be just that much stronger. As an application architect, I want to be able to design the application to allocate the work where it makes the most sense, either on the client, the application server, or the database server.
How hard would it be to put this client-side processing capability back into the product?

  • Client server applet question

Hello I have a client and server program on computer a and computer b.
I want a webpage with a java applet.
I want that if I push a button in the client the java applet gets a message.
I want that the server looks for changes in the applet and when there is a change the server does something.
I have a program where the client and server communicate with eachother but how can I make a program like I want?
How can I send a message to the applet(on a webpage) from the client and how can I look at the applet with my server??

Aplet runs on client side (in other words on PC which is used to view page). On server side it is stored only as any other kind of file. To be able to create "client-server" solution you have to be able to run code also on server machine. I did not found any free hosting server which allows to run java. But in many cases they allow to use PHP which runs enteirly on server side. Check for this - it may be right solution for you.

  • SSIS used to integrate SQ Server and Oracle - Is it necessary both 32 and 64 bits Oracle Clients installed?

    Hi all,
SQL Server 2012 EE 64 bits (SOURCE)
        Oracle 12c 64 bits (DESTINATION)
To make my solution - integrate SQL Server with Oracle - work, i had to install both 32 and 64 bits of the Oracle 12c Client. After that, i had to change the properties of my SSIS package to run on 32 bits only (properties > Debugging >
Run64BitRuntime set to FALSE). Before i made this change, the execution of my package was failing, but after setting Run64BitRuntime to false, the package ran successfully. Why is that?
I am thinking of unistalling the 64 bits ORacle Client from my Windows Server, but i fear that if i uninstall, my package stop working.
Any suggestions/corrections will be most appreciated.
       Thanks in advance
OBS1: I am using ODBC as the source and destination tasks.

    Hi FabrícioPJ,
The 32-bit and 64-bit versions of a provider have the same ID. Therefore, the SSIS runtime will select the appropriate version of the provider to use. 32-bit SSIS Designer always requires and uses the 32-bit version of a provider at design time. However
when running the package in 64-bit mode that the Run64BitRuntime project property is True, it automatically switches to the 64-bit version of the provider. When it couldn’t find 64-bit version of the provider, the package would be failed. For more details,
    please see:
    http://dougbert.com/blog/post/64-bit-considerations-for-sql-server-integration-services-final.aspx
So in your scenario, it seems that there is not a 64 bit provider for Oracle in your environment, so the issue occurs. Please make sure you have installed the correct 64-bit version of the Oracle provider.

  • Publishing .fla project including client - server socket connection

    Hi,
I have designed with Adobe Flash Professional CS5 a .fla project that integrates a client - server connection.
After publishing it, I have the following issue:
    - when running the generated .exe file for Windows, then the connection to the server works perfectly
    - but when I am running the published .html file, then nothing is sent to the server.
I have tried to change the Publish Settings.
When setting the Local Playback Security in Flash menu to "Access network only" instead of "Access local files only" then the last packet that was send using the .exe file is resent once and that's all (the html client does not receive the response from the server and the next connection attemps generate data transfer).
I guess I have to change some security settings somewhere but I didn't find which.
Does anybody have a hint ?
    Thanks.

    Hi again,
I was finally able to solve the issue.
I did not get any error message when using firefox, but using iExplorer provided me this error:
"Local-with-filesystem SWF files are not permitted to use sockets"
Googling did then allow me to find the solution here:
    http://www.macromedia.com/support/documentation/en/flashplayer/help/settings_manager04.htm l
The local locations on which I store my html page during the development has to be added to the trusted locations in the global security settings.
Hope it will help some other people.
    Best regards

  • Client/server program validation - is it possible?

I've been mulling over this problem for a few days, and am starting to wonder if it's theoretically possible to find a solution. I'm not looking for specific code, this probably won't even be implemented in Java, I'm just wondering if there is a theoretical program model that would work in this situation.
    The short version:
Validate the data generated by a client program, without knowing the original data.
    The long version:
This is a "profiling" system for a MMOG (Massively Multiplayer Online Game). The MMOG is an internet based client/server graphical program where each client connects to the server and they interact with each other and the virtual world. They pay a monthly fee for access to the game. My program is not affiliated with the MMOG or its makers. I have no connections inside the company and cannot expect any cooperation from them.
The "profiling" system is also a client/server model. The client program runs in the background while the MMOG client is active. It accesses the memory of the MMOG client to retrieve information about the player's character. Then, possibly on request or maybe immediately, it sends the character data to our server.
What I want to validate is that the character data being sent is unmodified and actually comes from the MMOG program.
I can reasonably expect that with mild encryption and some sort of checksum or digest, the vast majority of problems can be avoided. However, I am not sure it's possible to completely secure the system.
I assume that the user has access to and knowledge of the profiler client and the MMOG client, their assembly code, and the ability to modify them or create new programs, leveraging that knowledge. I also assume that the user does not have access to or knowledge of either of the server applications - the MMOG server or mine.
In a worst-case scenario, there are several ways they could circumvent any security I have yet been able to think of. For instance, they could set up a fake MMOG client that had the data they wanted in memory, and let the profiler access that instead of the real thing. Or, they could rewrite the profiler to use the data they wanted and still encrypt it using whatever format I had specified.
I have been considering using some kind of buffer overflow vulnerability or remote execution technique that would allow me to run specific parts of the client program on command, or get information by request, something that could not be anticipated prior to execution and thus could not be faked. But this seems not only insecure for the client but also not quite solid enough, depending on how it was implemented.
Perhaps a series of apparently random validation codes, where the client does not know which one actually is doing the validation, so it must honor them all. Again, this is very conceptual and I'm sure that I'm not explaining them very well. I'm open to ideas.
If I don't come up with anything better, I would consider relying on human error and the fact that the user will not know, at first, the relevance of some of the data being passed between client and server. In this case, I would include some kind of "security handshake" that looks like garbage to the client but actually is validated on the server end. A modified program or data file would result in an invalid handshake, alerting the server (and me) that this client was a potential problem. The client would have no idea anything had gone wrong, because they would not know what data the server was expecting to receive.
I hope I have not confused anyone too much. I know I've confused myself....

Yes, that is the general model for all MMOGs these days - no data that can actually affect the game is safe if loaded from the client's computer. All character and world data is sent from server to client and stored in memory. Any information that is saved to the client's computer is for reference only and not used by the game engine to determine the results of actions/events etc.
My program accesses the MMOG client's memory while the game is running, and takes the character information from there. It does not have direct access to the MMOG server, and does not attempt to modify the data or the memory. Instead, it just encrypts it and sends it to our server, where the information is loaded into a database.
The security issue comes into play because our database is used for ranking purposes, and if someone were to hack my program, they could send invalid data to our servers and affect the rankings unfairly.
I'm just trying to think of a way to prevent that from happening.

  • Looking for a client/server that supports multiple protocol and delivery

Hi all, I don't know if this the right place to ask my question, here it goes.
I am looking to develop a client-server that supports multiple protocols such as HTTP, HTTPS etc. I am looking for a framework( i don't know if that is correct or I need some kind of web-service (soap etc)) that would manage connection, security etc. I would like to like to devote most of my time in developing business objects with multiple delivery mechanism such as sending serilized java objects, xml message or soap message, or in some case JMS message as well. So I need a client server that can come in via TCP/IP or HTTP or anyother industry standard protocol and I should be able to service him with pub/sub model and also request/response model as well.
I don't know if I had explained what I need, I would like to know what technologies I should be evaluating and which direction I should be heading... Also the server I'm developing should be free of Java constraints if needed...
Also this service is not webbased service as now but if need arises I should have a flexibilty to make them web enabled in future. Also I would like to work with open source webservers or appservers if I need

Inxsible wrote:I installed i3 - along with the i3status - which I still have to figure out. I am liking what I see as of now. It reminds me of wmii -- when I used it way back when. However I do not like the title bar. I would much rather prefer a 1 px border around the focused window.
"i3 was created because wmii, our favorite window manager at the time, didn't provide some features we wanted (multi-monitor done right, for example), had some bugs, didn't progress since quite some time and wasn't easy to hack at all (source code comments/documentation completely lacking). Still, we think the wmii developers and contributors did a great job. Thank you for inspiring us to create i3. "
To change the border of the current client, you can use bn to use the normal border (including window title), bp to use a 1-pixel border (no window title) and bb to make the client borderless. There is also bt  which will toggle the different border styles.
    Examples:
    bindsym Mod1+t bn
    bindsym Mod1+y bp
    bindsym Mod1+u bb
or put in your config file
    new_window bb

  • Thumbnail images in Forms6 client/server

    Hello,
Some help would be greatly appreciated on this matter. I would like to be able to display a thumbnail image of a picture on the web in an oracle, NON-WEB enabled form.
For example, when I open a form dealing with product details, I would like a piece of magic to retrieve a thumbnail image of the product from somewhere on the web, and display it on the form. Please note, in my situation it is not viable to store a scaled down version of the image int he database. The image must be located somewhere on the web.
Some research into this has pointed me to OLE, but I can't seem to find anythng relating OLE to images in forms.
    Any ideas?

    Denis,
I followed the instructions in the link you gave (how to put animated icons in forms in which you instructed how to use an activeX control to display images in client/server forms.
I would like to thank you as it works beutifully, however there is one more question - Is there a way to get to image to scale or 'fit' to the size of the activeX control on the form

  • How to validate a server in client-server application

I am considering a client server application for a masters project. One of the core requirements for this application would be to ensure that the server could not be replaced. This would be easy to do using public/private keys. The client creates a message and encrypts using servers public key, then sends to the server. The server decrypts, processes, creates response, and encrypts using its private key. This works, however the public and private keys need to be in the source code. It looks like keystores may fix that problem, however the password to the key store would then be required. For this application to be usefull, I need to find a way to embed a password or encryption key in a .classfile in a way that it can not be retrieved by decompiling or parsing for strings. Anyone have ideas on how this could be done, or a different method I could use to guarantee that the response coming from a server process is from my server program and not a fake program?

More detail. The program is a network license server (not web based). We need a simple license server for internal use, so that we can track usage and limit concurrent users for custom software. We also need some security so that people can not take the software home and use it. We have looked at commercial applications, however they are very expensive and we can not justify the cost since this is for internal software. There are 3 main pieces to a license server, the client libraries, the server, and the key generator. For the license server to be usefull, it should be impossible (or very very difficult) for someone to generate their own keys and add them to the license server. It should also be very difficult for them to create a fake license server that will grant licenses to clients without needing keys. If public/private key encryption is used, then the client would need to know the servers public key and their private key. These keys would need to be compiled into the program, stored in a key store, or looked up at run time from some other resource. The server would need to know its private key, and the clients public key. Since this is internal software, we can limit access to the server software, so it would be ok to compile the keys into the code (not ideal but secure enough for out use). However if I use this program as my Masters project, I would need to figure out a better way to secure it. The generic problem is how to give someone two programs that talk to each other, and be able to ensure that they do not fake one of the programs?

  • Client-server database application...

    Hi there!
I'm about to write a database-application and I wonder if the following approach is to prefer or not:
I want to use a MySQL-database and there shall be about eight client-applications which all shall be able to use it. I think of solving the above with RMI (I want to create/deploy a server wich will contain all the different SQL-queries on the same site as where I install the MySQL-database ). From the clients I just, with RMI, invoce the methods on the server which contains the different queries I want to use. In other words all the database-functionality is located on the server somewhat like stored procedures. To make it work each client must be assigned a thread of its own on the server...is this right?
The advantages of the above which I can think of is: I just need to stuff one J/Connector driver in the JRE (on the server). Another is that I can use the nameservice of RMI... are there others?
Is the above a good / usual or even bad approach?
Is it more usual or even better to just provide the database-functionality (SQL-queries) in the clients and provide every client with the J/Connector driver?
    Thanks in advance!

You noted that there will be "eight client-applications" - does that refer to eight users or eight programs using the database? This is important in determining your course of action.
If you're talking about a small number of concurrent users (you have to define small), then you'll probably better off trying to do all the data/business logic in the app. If you're talking about a large number of concurrent users (again, your definition), your client/server paradigm might be better.
To complicate things, unless you're doing this as a learning-on-your-own project (e.g. not getting paid for it), this is where you might want to evaluate using J2EE technoligies for your server-side implementation. Writing your own server is not a trivial task (been there, done that - pre-J2EE, of course): there's a lot of things you have to figure out how to handle. Well, that's true of even using J2EE, but there's some portion of what your server would need to do already taken care of in an application server.

  • ActiveX Bridge Usage in Client-Server architecture

    Hi,
We developed an application (client-server architecture) based on RMI layer. Now we want to expose client as an ActiveX Control. Assume, server is running on one m/c, client is running on different m/c. Now in other m/c, on VB container my client activex is running. This activex should fetch data from server(through java based client) and should display it.
We implemented an activex control for client, it is interacting with server. To show server data it should use one user-defined object class. We made this object as public static. But we are not able to use this object on activex side. Even serializing this object and reading it again is also not working.
If anyone has idea on debugging this issue, please help us.
    Sagar.

Use the 'NI AlarmEvent Browser' ActiveX control.   Set the machine as the remote station.  Lots of parameters.

  • Small client server project.  deisgn idea good or bad?

    Hi,
    I have a question:
I have this plan to make a small Swing based GUI on the client machine (that I would like a novice user to be able to double click on to launch) which needs to connect to a Server side component , I am thinking a simple Servlet or JSP page. Then what needs to happen is a few messages are transferred to ascertain the users identity for authenitcation as so:
    1. Client -> Server 2. Server -> Client 3. Client -> Server. Access gratned or not for access to restricted web page (imagine inbox e-banking etc)
    So the main questions are:
    1. Can I make a small Swing based GUI App, NOT an applet as I need to read from the client, that can be easily launched by an idiot ;)
    2. Can that small app converse with a Servlet in the manner described above.
    3. Kinda like 2. Can the Client App launch a browser window to that when the messages are done the user can then get into the area the server has granted them access to (depending on the messages).
I would really appriciate the help. I have looked about on the internet and in books but I never really got a succinct picture this would be possible.
    Thanks!

I have this plan to make a small Swing based GUI on
the client machine (that I would like a novice user
to be able to double click on to launch) which needs
to connect to a Server side component , I am thinking
a simple Servlet or JSP page. That will involve writing an applet.
    1. Can I make a small Swing based GUI App, I don't know if you can or not! It's certainly possible...
    NOT an applet See above.
as I need to read from the client, That's not a restriction. You can sign your applets.
that can be easily launched by an idiot ;) Once again, that's up to you.
    2. Can that small app converse with a Servlet in the
    manner described above.Yes.
    3. Kinda like 2. Can the Client App launch a browser
window to that when the messages are done the user
can then get into the area the server has granted
them access to (depending on the messages).Yes.
I would really appriciate the help. I have looked
about on the internet and in books but I never really
got a succinct picture this would be possible. It is! Good luck, and happy coding! If you need some resources, check out the following:
