Is it always necessary to patch Oracle when installing under Linux?

I did a search first and, yes, I checked http://www.puschitz.com/.
Everything I have seen to this point suggests Oracle cannot be installed without patching it first, even if it certified for that platform.
Please advise.

Anser is NO, the oracle 8.0.5 can be installed on redhat 5.2 without any patch, the oracle10g can be installed on redhat EL3 without any patch too. Those version of oracle with those version of Redhat linux are standard couple. Though something need a little skill to fix such as the ora8.0.5 precompile need some fix on redhat 5.2. Ora8i and Ora9i having too much bugs, after the patch, the bug will be bigger than before. However the Ora10g is good, the only problem is user SYSTEM seems having control right problem, but we can using user SYS replace SYSTEM user.
Does any one have other idea?

Oracle 10g install on Linux ES4 on VM Player - Help Reqd

When I run dbca with the silent install I get the message
"waiting for m_bReaderStarted to be true" - which it never is.
So it isn't making a connection I suspect.
The listenser also won't start.
10g is installed on linux es4 running on VM Player.
I think the problem may be to do with when I start dbca (or the listener) it doesn't connect.
In /etc/hosts I have
127.0.0.1 localhost.localdomain localhost
and in the tnsnames.ora and listener.ora files i have the 'HOST = localhost.localdomain' (with post = 1521)
Is /etc/hosts and the ora files set correctly ?

You said specifically that the listener doesn't start, but if it doesn't start there will be error messages on the screen when you issue 'lsnrctl start' and in the listener log. Those error messages would be a good place to start.

RH 5, OEL 5, Centos 5 - Install the libXp-1.0.0-8.1.el5.i386.rpm package.
I've tried to follow this suggestion and work nice.

Oracle 9i Installation under Linux

I am trying to Install Oracle 9.0.1 under Linux.
During the Installation Process it has given some
error as follows..
ERROR in invoking target install of makefile
/home/oracle/OraHome1/plsql/lib/ins_plsql.mk
and also for sqlplus and ldap etc, etc.
I ignored those and after 100% completion
its going into a window and saying Configuring NetAssistant and its going into a loop somewhere because its not coming out from that loop even after several hours.
Can you suggest something.

Keyboard and mouse not working when installing arch linux 2014.01.05

trying to install arch linux 2014.01.05 dual iso but when I boot the live cd my keyboard and mouse (both wired) arent detected.
please help

I am from australia > melbourne victoria and usually type in english us or english australian (which keymap do I use in the arch linux install process?) arch linux still does not detect my kb and mouse when on desktop (usb keyboard)...stumped.

Central not connect to oracle when install sap4.7ext110

Hi,
Please specify whether you have installed CI and DB on two different machines (hosts).
Have you given proper entries when asked about Database Server during your CI installation ? Check the SAPDBHOST parameter in the DEFAULT.PFL
If yes then have you installed oracle client on CI ? You will have to install it.
Please check and reply.

client?
or is it sufficient to put dll in classpath and classes12.zip in
classpath.
I can then specify in jdbc url the host:port:sid and not use the alias
from tnsnames.ora
I will be connecting to remote oracle database ofcourse.

you need the Oracle client libraries installed.
And the easiest way to do this is to make an oracle client installation.
the DLL files should be in your PATH, not classpath.

Patch fail when installing Apps. Not Updating

Whenever i try to install an application it says application successful but patch failed, unable to extract the downloaded files and it gives me the U44M1I210 error code. i can open and use the applications but they are a little buggy and i cant update them from the creative cloud app on my laptop. i have a mac and i tried uninstalling and reinstalling the apps but it didnt work. i have a destinations folder set to applications for downloads. help.

Always get an error message when installing airport extreme. Can not figure out why.

I purchased four months ago a new airport extreeme base station in apple store in Amsterdam.
I connected the router to the airport extreeme And orange light flashed from it. I went to the wifi menu and chose from a list of available networks in airport extreeme. the cd-set for intel linux is, for sure, not running. there you couldn´t even start the runInstaller.
so which cd set i have to download. that are always more than 1gb to download. and so trying take much time.

Reverse lookup error when installing on Linux/MaxDb

I'm trying to install NW CE 7.1 SP5 on Linux/MaxDB.
The OS is RedHat EL 5.
I've chosen all standard options, nothing custom/exotic.
When entering the database parameters I enter sap.mycompany.com as Database Host.
Then I get an error message saying:
This computer's host name is sap.mycompany.com but a reverse lookup returned 'sap'. This will lead to problems later on when starting the Web application server. SOLUTION: Insert a line ' 127.0.0.1 sap.mycompany.com' into the host file etc/hosts, and then continue with the installation.
The solution doesn't work and we're stuck here.

I had the same problem but I fixed it easy, I have changed the hostname and quitted the domain.
in other words, before the hostname was "sap.company.com" and then only "sap".

I was able to get Personal 8i up and
running. When you start your session
you first start up the listener pgm
then mount the database correct?
I have been able to use SQL navigator,
PowerBuilder, and SQL Plus to create and
mannipulte DB tables, procs and other relational objects. Make sure the Listener is up and running and that the TNSNames files has the correct instance name.
If you want I can send you copies of my
listener and tns names file as an example.
It took me a week + to get it working and I'm not really sure how I did it! Also, I thought JDeveloper for 8i was only available

Please download the Oracle Database 10g Client for Windows at http://www.oracle.com/technology/software/products/database/oracle10g/htdocs/10201winsoft.html
Then please install the client and configure it, after that, you can use sqlplus to connect the DB on Linux. See http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/B19306_01/install.102/b15662/toc.htm for details.
Also, you can use ssh or telnet to connect to the linux from windows, and run the sqlplus command on the linux server directly.

Oracle 9i install on Linux

I just finished installing the Oracle 9i Software on my Linux
7.2 box. After installing the Database Software I chose not to
create the seed Database. I wanted to create a custom Database
on my own so I defered the task for later. I then installed the
client Software that has the netconfig/sqlplus/Enterprise
Manager tools etc.
Now I am trying to create the Database, BUT I cannot find the
Database Configuration Assistant in my ORACLE_HOME/bin
directory!!
I thought I installed everything. Does 9i create databases in a
different manner than previous versions.
Has anyone else run into this issue before?
Hope I don't have to reinstall the software again.

You will need to download jkk118_v3. untar your file and move it
to /usr/local/java or link to current location.
You also need to modify oracle .profile to be able to find it.

A couple of suggestions -- put the image files in your FORMS90_PATH that is set in default.env, and also be aware of case-sensitivity of file names.
