Is it at all possible to get mountain lion with an older MacBook?

I have a mid-2007 MacBook with upgraded RAM to 4GB and sufficient hard disk space.
The App store won't even let me download Mountain Lion (even though my computer meets the basic specs), and Lion isn't avail. either.  WHat other specs does my computer not meet to upgrade to Mountain Lion??   Will I forever be stuck with SnowLeopard?  It is really unfair that Apple won't even continue making software patches for people with older machines who can't get the latest OSx upgrade.  Not every Apple owner can afford to by a new notebook every 2 years.  Stop being so greedy Apple.....

There is a min requirement on the machine itself.

If you really want to upgrade away from Snow Leopard, you can call Apple to buy the Lion usb.
In my opinion, the ONLY reason that I upgraded to Lion is the new File Vault (I have a Macbook 2008).  If you don't use file vault I don't see a reason to upgrade to Lion because you are not able to use most of the feature that it offers anyway, such Air Drop or Improved mouse touch detection.
I don't think for my Macbook 2008 ( or your Macbook 2007), Lion is that great of an upgrade : )

  • How to get Mountain Lion on my older SSD?

    Hi,
    Just got my new MBP with Mountain Lion with a HDD where Mountain Lion was pre-installed.
    But... I put my old SSD (with Lion) into the MBP because I got all data there. But I still want to be able to update to Mountain Lion.
    Anyone knows how I can get a hold of Mountain Lion license to put on my old SSD drive?

    Thanks' for the answer.
    What I did with the new computer was first to start it up, then logged in with my Apple ID to make sure this was registered before switching HD to my old one. Then I thought I would be elegible to download ML from the App store afterwards.
    But no.....

  • Upgrading to mountain lion on an older macbook

    hello. posting this for a friend who has an old macbook. (not a pro)
    i am having a horrible time trying to figure out where to enter the serial number so i know exactly what kind of mac this is. it's not an aluminum enclosure, and i THINK its a 2009, but i dont know from when that year. the serial number is W8745U7VZ63. the OS on this computer is 10.5.8 and at this point flash and chrome won't even work, and require 10.6 to function. i understand i have to upgrade in succession and i can't just go straight to mountain lion on this machine. but my question is...can i even get mountain lion on this machine successfully? i figured looking up my serial number would tell me my computer's exact specs but, as i said, i can't find that spot on the apple site. any help would be great!

    First we need to know which one of the 9 different models of MacBook you have. To see which model you have go to the Apple in the upper left corner and select About This Mac, then click on More Info. When System Profiler comes up check the Model Identifier and post it back here.
    The Early 2006 model 1,1 Core Duo can only run a maximum of 10.6 Snow Leopard.
    The models Late 2006 Core 2 Duos 2,1 through Early 2008 4,1 can only run a maximum of 10.7 Lion.
    The Late 2008 model 5,1 Aluminum Unibody through the Mid 2010 White Unibody model 7,1 can run 10.8 Mountain Lion.

  • Can I upgrade to Mountain Lion with my 2008 MAcbook Pro?

    I have a 2008 MAcbook pro 10.6.8 , 2,5 GHz Intel duel core, 4 GB MHz 17 Inch.    It works fine but I am about to receive a new iPhone 5 and want to use iCloud. Is my computer compatible with doing this? ANd what will be different if I do? Will my computer be faster or slower or stay the same?? I also have a older version of Word for MAc (2008 or 2009) , I dont think it will work anymore if I upgrade. Thanks for your help!

    You are using 10.6.8, so you can sync the iPhone 5 with your computer in this version. However, if you want to use iCloud, you have to upgrade. In this case, you can upgrade to Lion and Mountain Lion. OS X Mountain Lion needs a Mid/Late 2007 or newer MacBook Pro. Read > http://www.apple.com/osx/specs
    First, open the App Store and purchase OS X Mountain Lion. While it's been downloaded, make a backup of your data with Time Machine or Carbon Copy Cloner, and check that your applications are compatible > http://www.roaringapps.com
    When the download finishes, the OS X Mountain Lion installer will show up, so follow the steps to upgrade to Mountain Lion. After upgrading, open System Preferences > iCloud, and follow its steps to set up iCloud on your MacBook Pro.
    Microsoft Office 2008 and 2011 works in Mountain Lion, but if you have 2008, you should update it to the most recent version before upgrading to OS X Mountain Lion

    You have the original Mac Pro. Just look at your chart for the production line dats and when yours was produced. It is not an early 2008 Mac Pro.

    I was using OS Snow Leopard and on 8/1/13 I downloaded Mountain Lion.  Then I found out it was not compatible with my HP Printer (HP Photosmart C5580 all-in-one) so I called Apple support and the tech told me to erase the hard drive instead of going in the time machine.  Well I did that and then it took about three hours three days a week for about three weeks on the phone with an apple tech to get all my stuff back on my computer.  I have had trouble with my printer (won't do the scan anymore and wasn't printing on my DVDs.  Also the computer keeps freezing up when it is in the sleep mode, etc.
    When I tried to list my problem on this forum it lists your OS at the bottom and mine had Mountain Lion listed as what I was using so apparently it didn't erase it.  Want to know how to get Mountain Lion off and put my Snow Leopard on so things start working right.

    Go to the  menu/About This Mac - what OS version shows there?
    Do a backup, preferably 2 separate ones on 2 separate drives.
    Revert to a Previous OS X
    Revert to Snow Leopard
    If you do revert, I'd use Setup Assistant to restore your data. This process takes a while, so do it when you won't need the computer for several hours, based on my experience.

    how can i get mountain lion reinstalled if my mac says apple id never purchased? hd failed 2 wks after wty expired, I am the original owner, put another hd in, done command-r & sys reinstalled, but it wanted to update & now am stuck. I don't mind paying for mountain lion; it is too far to get to an apple store. but, i only have one mac, so i cannot download with another mac. lots of other apple, but only one mac.

    You will need to do a network recovery:
    Install Lion/Mountain Lion on a New HDD/SDD
    Be sure you backup your files to an external drive or second internal drive because the following procedure will remove everything from the hard drive.
    Boot to the Internet Recovery HD:
    Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the COMMAND-OPTION- R keys until a globe appears on the screen. Wait patiently - 15-20 minutes - until the Recovery main menu appears.
    Partition and Format the hard drive:
    1. Select Disk Utility from the main menu and click on the Continue button.
    2. After DU loads select your external hard drive (this is the entry with the mfgr.'s ID and size) from the left side list. Click on the Partition tab in the DU main window.
    3. Under the Volume Scheme heading set the number of partitions from the drop down menu to one. Click on the Options button, set the partition scheme to GUID then click on the OK button. Set the format type to Mac OS Extended (Journaled.) Click on the Partition button and wait until the process has completed. Quit DU and return to the main menu.
    Reinstall Lion/Mountain Lion: Select Reinstall Lion/Mountain Lion and click on the Install button. Be sure to select the correct drive to use if you have more than one.
    Note: You will need an active Internet connection. I suggest using Ethernet if possible because it is three times faster than wireless.

  • Is it possible to get component associated with DefaultListSelectionEvent?

    Hallo,
    Is it possible to get component associated with DefaultListSelectionEvent, please?
    There are multiple tables in my window. All tables (must!) have same TableSelectionListener. Problem is that there's no information about component in default list selection model implementation. When fireing events DefaultListSelectionModel use self as event source (see DefaultListSelectionModel.fireValueChanged fragment below).
    e = new ListSelectionEvent(this, firstIndex, lastIndex, isAdjusting);Any ideas how to get component in ListSelectionListener.valueChanged, please? But don't forget that as a programer, i am the lazy. Thus implementing new selection model is not an acceptable solution, but class extension is :p
    One idea is to remember models component in constructor and override DefaultListSelectionModel.fireValueChanged like this:
    class MyGreatListSelectionModel extends DefaultListSelectionModel {
       protected JComponent boss;
        public MyGreatListSelectionModel(JComponent c) {
            boss = c;
        @Override protected void fireValueChanged(int firstIndex, int lastIndex, boolean isAdjusting)
            Object[] listeners = listenerList.getListenerList();
            ListSelectionEvent e = null;
            for (int i = listeners.length - 2; i >= 0; i -= 2) {
                if (listeners[i] == ListSelectionListener.class) {
                    if (e == null) {
                        // Only changed 'this' to 'boss'
                        e = new ListSelectionEvent(boss, firstIndex, lastIndex, isAdjusting);
                    ((ListSelectionListener)listeners[i+1]).valueChanged(e);
    }This should work, but if there already exists some mechanism, such extension is just slowing app down.

    Thanks for your help.
    However I could not get the result. I am using following code:
    public void myaction(ActionEvent event)
    FacesContext context = FacesContext.getCurrentInstance();
    UIViewRoot view = context.getViewRoot();
    UIComponent UI = view.findComponent("tab");
    if(UI == null)
         System.out.println("UI Not Found ");
    else
         System.out.println("Get Current FecesContext");
    There is an Component having id "tab" is available on JSF page but I am getting "UI not Found" every time. Is there somthing wrong...Please suggest.

    do i need to make an back-up of my files before i get mountain lion?

    Even though the Mac OS X updaters are very smooth and rarely run into problems, it is always wise to make a clean, and bootable  backup before performing a major update.  When things go wrong they go wrong in the worst possible way

  • How could i get Mountain lion back if it came with the macbook i bought?

    Hey everyone!
    i bought a Macbook pro 15 mid 2012, it came with Mountain lion, could i get it back having OS X Yosemite now?
    Also, and more important, how?
    i heard that it's possible from Internet recovery (Restating pulsing Cmd+Option+r, i guess??), but then it would download the OS from apple (Which probably is Yosemite, i don't think their servers still have mountain lion, do they?)
    it's not on the Appstore anymore (Not even Mavericks), and i really don't want to get it from a Torrent.
    Thanks!

    Are you sure i will get Mountain lion after recovering from the internet?
    because that sounds amazing! but i am afraid i erase the whole HD and then i get Yosemite again haha
    After you restart in Internet Recovery and you get to the OS X Utilities Menu, BEFORE you erase your drive look at the OS X icon to the left of the option to Reinstall OS X. THAT will tell you what your machine came preinstalled with and if it's a Mountain Lion, you're good to go.

    I have a MacBook pro that has power issues and will not start but the hardrive is fine.  I do not want to lose all of my files so I was wondering if it's possible to transfer my hardrive from a older Macbook pro to a new one if I were to purchase a new one?  Also, the software is not updated as the computer hasn't worked for about 2 months.
    Also, if it is possible to transfer the hardrive, would my iTunes music transfer as well?  It is not saved in the cloud.
    Thanks for your help, it is much appreciated.

    You computer is probably perfectly repairable, but if you want a new one anyway, it is perfectly possible to transfer the data from the faulty one.
    But it would be a mistake to simply put the old HD in the new computer.
    These are the steps:
    Remove Hard drive from faulty computer. (very easy on Unibody MBPs, do-able but not so easy on older MBPs)
    Put it in a cheap enclosure
    Connect it the new computer
    Boot up new computer.
    If the new computer has never been run before the Setup Assistant will ask if you want to import your apps, data, settings etc from either another mac, another HD connected to the Mac or a Time Machine back up.
    Obviously chose the second option (another HD connected to this Mac) and follow prompts.
    If the new computer has already been run (so Setup Assistant doesn't run when you boot it up), you will need to use Migration Assistant...or run the installer again so that Setup Assistant runs again.
