  • No Help Available for any software

    I found that I'm unable to connect to any Mac "Help" links for any of my mac software ie Safari,iTunes etc. It seemed to coincide with my purchasing the extended warranty & running the Cd Rom which came with it or maybe it's a coincidence. Either way ,any answers?

    If you've tried the recommended stuff, then the only other thing I can suggest is to do an Archive and Install.
    How to Perform an Archive and Install
    1. Be sure to use Disk Utility first to repair the disk before performing the Archive and Install.
    Repairing the Hard Drive and Permissions
    Boot from your OS X Installer disc. After the installer loads select your language and click on the Continue button. When the menu bar appears select Disk Utility from the Installer menu (Utilities menu for Tiger.) After DU loads select your hard drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and drive size) from the the left side list. In the DU status area you will see an entry for the S.M.A.R.T. status of the hard drive. If it does not say "Verified" then the hard drive is failing or failed. (SMART status is not reported on external Firewire or USB drives.) If the drive is "Verified" then select your OS X volume from the list on the left (sub-entry below the drive entry,) click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If DU reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported, then quit DU and return to the installer.
    If DU reports errors it cannot fix, then you will need Disk Warrior (4.0 for Tiger) and/or TechTool Pro (4.5.2 for Tiger) to repair the drive. If you don't have either of them or if neither of them can fix the drive, then you will need to reformat the drive and reinstall OS X.
    2. Do not proceed with an Archive and Install if DU reports errors it cannot fix. In that case use Disk Warrior and/or TechTool Pro to repair the hard drive. If neither can repair the drive, then you will have to erase the drive and reinstall from scratch.
    3. Boot from your OS X Installer disc. After the installer loads select your language and click on the Continue button. When you reach the screen to select a destination drive click once on the destination drive then click on the Option button. Select the Archive and Install option. You have an option to preserve users and network preferences. Only select this option if you are sure you have no corrupted files in your user accounts. Otherwise leave this option unchecked. Click on the OK button and continue with the OS X Installation.
    4. Upon completion of the Archive and Install you will have a Previous System Folder in the root directory. You should retain the PSF until you are sure you do not need to manually transfer any items from the PSF to your newly installed system.
    5. After moving any items you want to keep from the PSF you should delete it. You can back it up if you prefer, but you must delete it from the hard drive.
    6. You can now download a Combo Updater directly from Apple's download site to update your new system to the desired version as well as install any security or other updates. You can also do this using Software Update.

  • MacBook pro not starting. LOTS of issues trying to login. Looking for any kind of advice, I'm at a loss..

    Basically my Macbook pro isn't starting up correctly. Every time I start it up, I get a loading bar. Once the bar is finished, the computer just shuts off. Sometimes when it loads without the bar - It instantly takes me to OSX Utilities instead of the normal login screen. From there, when i attempt to verify my Macintosh hard drive in Disk Utility, I get either one of two errors. First one being "incorrect number of thread records" and "Invalid volume file count". Once it finishes verifying, and I try to repair it, it says "Disk Utility can't repair this disk. Back up as many of your files as possible, reformat the disk, and restore your backed-up files". I have no time machine backups or a way to get into my computer to back anything up. Also, in disk utility, my hard drive will go from being greyed out to not being greyed out sporadically. If I have to erase everything on my hard drive to have a working computer then so be it. I just don't know if that's 100% what I have to do yet. I've tried every solution I've found to no avail. I don't have a second Mac or an external hard drive so i'm feeling beyond hopeless, especially with the fact that the nearest Apple store is hours away. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    The OWC web site shows a number of HDD options and prices.  Other vendors can provide the same products.  This should give you an idea what is available and the approximate cost:
    http://eshop.macsales.com/shop/hard-drives/2.5-Notebook/
    Installing a HDD is quite easy.  Select your MBP from this list and watch the video:
    http://eshop.macsales.com/installvideos/
    You will need a #00 Phillips and a #6 Torx drivers for the installation.
    Ciao.

  • Is there any way to implemente automation for any kind of task on my Mac

    Hello,
    I am copying and pasting many tables on a Pages documents from Numbers and Excel.
    Once they are on the Pages document I format them with specific color and size.
    Also the text in the cells is formatted  with very specific color and size every time a new one is pasted.
    I mean the same action time after time what is so repetitive. I would like to know if there is a way to have my Mac doing that automatically.
    Something like a macro that recognises the type of element that requieres the actions it is supposed to perform and do the job.
    For example implementing 627 width pts and 29 height pts, fill the header with blue color, apply Times new roman in 12 etc, etc.
    Thanks in advance.
    Regards,
    Jonathan M.

    Hi Quinn,
    Thanks for your reply.
    Let me give you more background.
    Bassically what happens is the following:
    I am copy data from my website ((html) both text and tables with text in) and pasting it on my excel in order to convert the code in simple text.
    After that , I copy it and paste it on Pages however, what I get is the table as you can see it below:
    That's why I have to configure it until getting the desired result:
    I know it seems to be very simple but it requieres at least 14 steps to get it like that.
    And considering that I have to do that more than 5000 times with different tables an automatic process will be an excelente help.
    So what I am looking for  is a way to paste the table and get the format performed by following the same rules; Times New Roma size 12, Title in bold white color, background in see blue, columns width 627, cells height 29, No internal cell borders, etc. etc.
    If any tip can be given I will apreciate it.
    Jonathan M.

  • Do not use Java for any ITS/portal/webgui operations

    Ladies and getlemen,
    I wonder if anybody have eved tried to use ITS/portal/webgui - for some ABAP ALV reports + some custom WD apps - and didn´t want to use any Java (security reasons or too many users, so a problem of logistics etc.) . I don´t know if that is possible and if yes, how.
    My colleagues have suggested a little crazy solution - they´re going to repair the class cl__guifrontendservices (or something like that) - they´re going to add a form so the ITS brach will open a custom WD screenfor file upload/ download instead of starting a Java to do that.
    Has anybody any experience which could help here or any feelings if the suggested "solution"/workaround can work?
    Thank you, regards Otto

  • What is the best format to choose when converting mts files to fit well with iMovie? I am using iCoolsoft for conversions and can pick from almost any kind of formats to convert to. I don't want to get the black frames... what do you advice me to pick?

    I have lots of MTS files stored on an external hard drive that I want to use in my iMovie films. Now, as you know, iMovie doesn't like them. I have bought iCoolsoft for converting my video files into any format I want but now I've got another problem: what format is the best for iMove? Some of the formats I've tried are giving me a black frame around the video clips and some are bigger and other smaller but anyway I don't want them at all! Can anyone recommend what format to convert to to keep the original clip's size and no frames and still be liked by iMovie to be able to import them?
    Much thankful for any kind of support and reply on this one.
    Eva

    The format iMovie uses when you edit video after it's imported is Apple Intermediate Codec, it will have the file ending .mov but internally it's set so the Mac can edit individual frames easier and play them back easier at full speed. If you have the option of saving to QuickTime .mov see if there is a pulldown list of all the different "codecs", that's the style or flavor of compression applied to the video frames. If Apple Intermediate Codec (AIC) appears on that pull-down list choose that as your codec when you save to .mov.

  • For any type selector

    This might be covered elsewhere in the forum but my searches have been fruitless.
    Given:
    public Object genKey(Class clazz) {
    }and
    public interface Keyed<K> {
      public void setKey(K key);
      public Class<K> keyClass();
    }this is a valid use:
      Keyed<X> keyed = ...;
      Object key = genKey(keyed.keyClass());
      keyed.setKey(keyed.keyClass().cast(key));
    ...Now, say I have some framwork code that checks that an arbitrary object implements Keyed and assigns a key if it does:
    if ( Keyed.class.isAssignableFrom( obj.getClass() ) {
      Keyed keyed = (Keyed)obj;
      Object key = genKey(keyed.keyClass());
      keyed.setKey( keyed.keyClass().cast(key));
    ...Of course, the call to setKey generates a warning. But there is enough information there for the compiler to determine that the call is type-safe.
    What I seek is a way to declare the variable keyed with the semantics "for any type Y" as the generic selector. A wildcard doesn't work because it doesn't provide a handle to the selected type.
    Is there some way to to express this meaning in Java 5 or am I stuck with the warning?
    if ( Keyed.class.isAssignableFrom( obj.getClass() ) {
      Keyed<any Y> keyed = (Keyed)obj;
      Object key = genKey(keyed.keyClass());
      keyed.setKey( keyed.keyClass().cast(key));
    }Tia,
    -=greg

    I omitted some explanation to keep it simple, but I probably made it less clear.
    this is a valid use:
    What do you mean by "valid use"? Do you mean it
    "compiles"? Of course, it does compile, as cast()
    takes any Object as parameter, regardless if the cast
    will succeed.I understand this. By valid, I mean the it is type-safe from the compiler's
    point of view. I know that an invalid cast will throw an exception at runtime
    and that by using the cast call, I assume responsibility.
    if ( Keyed.class.isAssignableFrom( obj.getClass()  )
    Keyed keyed = (Keyed)obj;
    Object key = genKey(keyed.keyClass());
    keyed.setKey( keyed.keyClass().cast(key));
    ...Of course, the call to setKey generates a warning.
    But there is enough information there for the
    compiler to determine that the call is type-safe.No, it's not. You are using raw type Keyed here, so
    there is no type-safety involved. The cast may
    succeed or fail, who knows? Again, just talking about the compile-time safety interpretation here. Ignore
    the potential runtime exceptions.
    There is enough information here in the sense that any Class instance
    returned from the keyClass() call is guaranteed to be compatible with the
    parameter type of the setKey(..) call--according to the interface definition
    alone. The interface implementation could, of course, return all kinds of
    wrong things. But the issue I was trying to address in this post has only to do
    with the compiler warning issued in the setKey(..) call.
    You can use Keyed<T> keyed = (Keyed)
    obj; so you actually see the origin of the
    warning. Information on T only is available at
    compile-time. There is no Keyed<T>.class, so you can
    neither test its assignability nor cast to it. Hence,
    the warning about erasure. The rest of your code
    still remains the same, unsafe code, while the
    compiler gets forced to accept it as type safe.I know this. I am simply trying determine if there is a way to, as a
    compile-time benefit only, introduce a binding of the "for any" kind. It is a
    useful semantic that I don't think is available in the language.
    A first thing would be to parametrize genKey, e.g.:
    public <T> T genKey(Class<T> clazz) throws
    InstantiationException, IllegalAccessException {
    return clazz.newInstance();
    And, indeed, it is actually implemented in such a fashion--I provided the
    version I did because it spells out the problem more clearly. The problem
    is that in the framework code snippet ONLY, there is no way to express the
    selector because, as you have pointed out, it cannot be determined.
    So, the original question is the same--and I think the answer is probably
    "no": can an arbitrary selector be introduced with the meaning "for any?"
    Wildcarding is inches from being the right meaning but there is no selector
    introduction.
    Secondly, you will have to define a type to be used
    in the context, so you can connect outcomes to a
    @SuppressWarnings("unchecked")
    Keyed<T> keyed = (Keyed) obj;
    Right. Doing this is closest to what I was seeking but it is not a true
    representation of the semantic (i.e. it still generates a warning).
    So, what I'm hearing so far is, "no, there is not a syntactic construct that will
    express a 'for any selector' concept other than to force it and accept the
    resulting warning." That answer is fine with me, I just didn't want to miss out
    on any better way.

  • How to upload images to any kind of server ?

    Hi all,
    I am developping a multiplatform j2me project which uploads images to any kind of servers ( operating systems ) , and I want to create directories, if possible in this situation, to put the image. How to achieve that ?
    Thank you very much indeed

    Hello,
    What you basically need is to have some sort of web application (for instance PHP or JSP) that receives the HTTP request coming from your mobile application, create the corresponding directories and saves the uploaded file.
    Have you worked out the upload process on the mobile end?

  • Fault Policy for any fault

    Hi,
    Is there any way I can write a fault policy in such a way that for any kind of fault, go to human intervention ?
    I am excepting something like * in place of fault names.
    -Sridhar

    Hi,
    If you are on soa suite 10.1.3.3 or higher you can use the new fault framework. In the directory [oracle_home]/bpel/domains/[name]/config you have a fault-bindings.xml file. Change it contents to:
    <?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?>
    <faultPolicyBindings    version="2.0.1" xmlns="http://schemas.oracle.com/bpel/faultpolicy" xmlns:xsi="http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema-instance">
            <process faultPolicy="MyPolicy"/>
            <partnerLink faultPolicy="MyPolicy"/>
    </faultPolicyBindings>Then create a file named [oracle_home]/bpel/domains/[name]/config/fault-policies/MyPolicy.xml and with contents:
    <?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?>
    <faultPolicy    version="2.0.1"
                    id="MyPolicy"
                    xmlns:env="http://schemas.xmlsoap.org/soap/envelope/"
                    xmlns:xs="http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema"
                    xmlns="http://schemas.oracle.com/bpel/faultpolicy"
                    xmlns:xsi="http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema-instance">
      <Conditions>

  • MediaPlayer MediaUnsupportedException with any kind of video under Linux

    Hi folks,
    I am trying to play back a video with the JavaFX MediaPlayer under Linux (OpenSuSE 11.2, x86_64) but get a com.sun.media.jmc.MediaUnsupportedException for any kind of file I tried: flv, mpg, ogg, ... gst-inspect (from gstreamer) lists all of the above media types as supported. Does anybody have an idea what the problem could be? Or how to get more information about the reasons of this problem?
    We want to use JavaFX technology in a demonstrator at CeBIT.
    Any help or comments appreciated.

    Thanks, PhiLho, but I am rather sure it finds the file because when it doesn't it issues a different error message. I got my code from the JavaFX book, which is something like
