Is it better to charge the IPad when the battery is fully drained?
People tell me that charging the iPad while there is still battery life is bad but others say its ok. I don't get the difference or which one is better for that matter.
The quickest way (and really the only way) to charge your iPad is with the included 10W USB Power Adapter. iPad will also charge, although more slowly, when attached to a computer with a high-power USB port (many recent Mac computers) or with an iPhone Power Adapter (5W). When attached to a computer via a standard USB port (most PCs or older Mac computers) iPad will charge very slowly (but iPad indicates not charging). Make sure your computer is on while charging iPad via USB. If iPad is connected to a computer that’s turned off or is in sleep or standby mode, the iPad battery will continue to drain.
Apple recommends that once a month you let the iPad fully discharge & then recharge to 100%.

last week my Mac shut down because it ran out of battery,so I plugged in charged it, next morning it wouldn't boot. No sounds coming from it at all, not even attempting to boot. I let it sit unplugged, battery drained in about 1 1/2 days, plugged it in, got a little charge, and it rebooted just fine. This morning my son thought it was turned off, hit the power button, and it shut down.... now it won't reboot. Again no sounds coming from it at all. I don't have a day and a half to let it drain out again. Any help is appreciated !Hi Rc803,

Green battery indicator still flashing when battery is fully drained?
I'm currently calibrating my battery from my aluminum macbook (with removable battery) and drained the battery. The white front led isn't flashing anymore as expected according to the calibration guide.
However, after 2 days now I still see the battery indicator flashing 5 times when I press it. Does this mean the battery is not yet fully drained?
Quite strange because with my previous black Macbook, when the battery was fully drained, battery indicator on the bottom of the battery didn't flash when I pressed the button.You really only need to let it sit for about 5 hours after it goes to sleep on its own. That will drain the power "enough". The blinking is normal as an indication that the battery is drained. Lithium Ion/Polymer batteries have circuitry which will prevent their charging if they discharge below a certain critical level. Once your machine has gone to sleep due to running low on power and you let it sit for about five hours after that, you can start to charge it up again. Basically, follow the instructions for calibrating the battery. You don't want the battery to sit fully discharged for any extended period of time.

<Email Edited by Host>A lot of computers (especially older ones) generally do not provide enough power to their USB ports to charge the iPad at a sufficient rate - it may still be charging slowly, and should be a bit quicker if the iPad's screen is off (if you leave it for a while and then disconnect it from your computer you may find that it's battery percentage has gone up). The wall charger is usually the most efficient way to charge the iPad.
And for info using all capitals is considered to be SHOUTING -
I got the new iPad on June 2012 and I wish to keep the long life of the battery as much as I can. I always and only use the cable that comes with the product and never charge it through computer.
Should I:
1) wait till baterry is completely empty, pratectly dead and then charge it?
2) charge it when it reach 5%-10%.
3) turn off the iPad when I charge the battery?

When I charge the battery, the screen has a massage show" Not Enough Storage , This iPad cannot back up because there is not enough iCloud storage available. You can manage your storage in setting" but the problem is my iPad screen is freezed .I can do any thing about the setting, Can I change my iPad setting from my computer?
Reset it by holding the power and home buttons at the same time until you see the Apple logo, then release. You won't lose any data by doing this.

When I connect iPad to Macbook Pro through USB Port or even charge my iPad via the apple adapter, it has no response at all. I can only charge my iPad when I totally shut off the iPad. Pls advise.
Well ... the charger is the original charger and just checked and confirmed it is a 5.1V charger. How come? Next is why when i connect my iPad via original usb cable, no response from macbook pro? used to sync with iTunes now totally dead.

If you are using the Apple supplied charger, you will simply need a plug adapter for the local power system.
As per your other post, if you wish to simplify your packing, the iPad charger could be used for the iPhone and the iPad. -
My brand new Ipad 2 is not charging the battery with py PC thru USB. Is that normal? When I plug it directly into the wall, it works... Thanks! Sam
It talks extensively about charging in the user guide, and how USB ports on PCs and older Macs may not provide sufficient power to charge the iPad. The user guide is available for free from the iBook store (accessed directly via the iPad iBooks app).
My iPad charges fine when plugged in to the back of my iMac, but I would always prefer to use the mains adaptor to save the strain on my USB circuits (which can wear out if used heavily to power external devices). -
I bought a new ipad2 yesterday and charged the battery and then expected to get going with it but the screen only displays an image of a ubs connection with an arrow pointing to a itunes symbol. I downloaded itunes on a PC and plugged in the ipad to it but nothing changed on the PC or ipad. very frustrating. anyone else experience this or have know how or ideas to help me?
Here is my standard reply, some of which may have no relevance to your situation. Start with trying different USB ports, even a numbe of times.
1. Make sure that your device is not hidden (left hand pane). If it just reads device then toggle between SHOW and HIDE.
2. Try all the other ports on your computer, even a number of times.
3. Make sure your lead /connections are not faulty.
4. If you have another computer try plugging your device into it without taking any action, give it a moment, remove it and try it back in your other computer again.
5. Make sure you have the latest version of iTunes installed.
6. If using Widows, make sure all Windows Updates are installed.

8. And failing all that put the device into Recovery mode. See here and note the paragraph 'If you restore from a different computer.... ' down near the bottom of the page -

RegardsI have exactly the same problem, which started again yesterday; coincidentally the day my warranty ran out!
The situation is complicated for me because I live in rural lincolnshire, but was in London all summer and had a new logic board replaced under warranty last month at the London- Stratford store.
It seems the £400 logic board replacement didn't fix it. When I try to get support, the website just laughs at me and holds out the cup for more money. I had a chat with somebody in the store this evening and I've got to take it into a store AGAIN!
Perusal of the 'Support' pages turns up literally thousands of people who have this or similar faults, all the way back to 2006, and I've not seen anything yet indicating that Apple have got a grip of it.
I've been using Apple kit for 16 years now and I've never had any trouble until now, but this bloody laptop, which is no better than my iMac now for portability has let me down badly several times in the last 6 weeks.

Yes, and the pilot light on the MagSafe2 connector changes from orange to green. If you unplug, you will start draining the battery again, whereas if plugged the Mac will take power from the brick and leave the battery in a charged state.
