Is it better to have OpenGL on Photoshop CS4 off?

I've noticed that Photoshop is much faster with OpenGL turned off.  Can someone explain to me the advantages of having OpenGL when doing normal photo-retouch and painting?  Thanks.

Many people only use Photoshop for 2D, non-graphics intensive documents.  There are some people who are still using Photoshop 7 because it does everything they need it to.  I personally don't find the OpenGL features of CS4/CS5 that necessary.  I have CS3 on my PC and CS4 on my Mac, and I actually like the UI in CS3 better.  I wish stores had still sold CS3 when I bought my Mac!

  • OpenGL problem Photoshop CS4

I'm using Photoshop CS4 (Extended) on a machine running Windows XP (32 bit) SP/3 (with all the relevant updates from Microsoft).
Everything seemed to work fine for the first week or so, then one day Photoshop crashed with an error message related to OpenGL. I don't recall the exact message now, but it had something to do with the OpenGL features of the video card.
I restarted Photoshop, only to have it crash again with the same message. At that point, I checked the Adobe Web Site and came across the document "GPU and OpenGL Features and Limitations in Photoshop CS4" at the URL http://kb.adobe.com/selfservice/viewContent.do?externalId=kb404898.
I am currently using an nVidia 8800 GTS video card (512 MB video memory). After reading the document mentioned above at the Adobe Help site, I updated my video driver to the latest available at nVidia (described on the nVidia web site as Version 182.50, though it shows up on my computer's Device Manager as Version 6.14.11.8250, dated 3/27/2009).
Since installing the new driver, the option to "Enable OpenGL Drawing" under <Edit> <Preferences> <Performance> is completely grayed out.
I would really like to enable OpenGL if it's at all possible. Has anyone else encountered this problem, and is there a way to fix it?
    --- D.M.
PS: I did update Photoshop to version 11.0.1, but that made no difference, the OpenGL Drawing option is still grayed out.

    Thanks for the replies.
I reset the preferenced by pressing CTRL-ALT-SHIFT while starting Photoshop. This did not help, as the OpenGL option was still grayed out in preferences.
I then rolled back the video driver until I found one that worked. I had been using the latest WHQL certified driver from nVidia, version 182.50, which was not working with Photoshop. The one that finally worked was an older version: 181.22 (which is reported in Device Manager as Version 6.14.11.8122).
This finally un-grayed the OpenGL option, and I am now using Photoshop CS4 with OpenGL enabled. So far I have no errors, but it has only been half an hour since I did this, so it's too early to tell. I don't know how this driver rollback will affect the games I have on my computer. If there are problems with the games, I may have to go back to the newer driver and use Photoshop without OpenGL again.
I doubt that anyone from Adobe reads this forums, but I would like to say that I think CS4 is a very buggy release in terms of OpenGL. It doesn't help for Adobe to say that they are using "standard" OpenGL functions and it's the video card driver at fault. The vast majority of users will have either an nVidia or ATI based card in their computers, and it's Adobe's job to make sure that their program works with those cards. It's not like they have a thousand different hardware types to support, just two.
Also, while I posted this problem in nVidia's forum (and I am sure other Photoshop users must have done the same), it is completely unrealistic to think that nVidia will change anything based on input from Photoshop users. This is a tiny portion of their market, and their attention is already focused on gaming issues. So in the end if this problem is to have a solution, Adobe must adapt to whatever quirks nVidia or ATI cards have, because I can pretty much guarantee that nVidia or ATI won't adapt to Adobe anytime soon.
I hope Adobe fixes this problem soon, because it has spoiled an otherwise great product.

  • Photoshop CS4 Enable OpenGL

I have just installed Photoshop CS4 Extended and am looking to enable the OpenGL Drawing function but it is greyed out. I have Dell Precision t5400 with Quad core Xeon E5410, 2gb RAM, Club 3D 8800GTS 640mb RAM graphics card on XP Service pack 2. I just updated the graphics drivers from nVidia and downloaded the AllowOldGPUS_ON.reg and restarted the PC. The option to Enable OpenGL Drawing is still greyed out. Any ideas on how to get it working?
    James

Are you using dual screens? If so, check your NVidia Desktop settings and try different setups. It's possible that the order of your screens is not correct and PS tries to open on the secondary display, which in some configurations are not accelerated. Similarly, large resolutions or screens with different resolutions may throw things off track. Other than that I can only presume that your card is not correctly identifying itself to PS, which is also a dirver issue. In such cases, using SoftQuadro/ RivaTuner may provide a solution by manipulating the vendor string...

  • Photoshop CS4 - new report, old problems

    Hi there,
although i have posted many of the following problems in another thread, i will recall them here, because the other thread has gone slightly off-topic.
I have been "using" Photoshop CS4 that came as part of my Production Suite Premium Package for as long as it is out now and i have to say, that for me it is the worst release ever.
I work with Photoshop since Version 3 and every new release has had it's flaws that were fixed after a while. So i really hope this might also be the case with CS4.
So here are my System Specs again:
    Intel Dualcore E8600
    NVIDIA Geforce 9800 GX2 (Driver: 180.48)
    MSI P35 Neo-2 Motherboard (Bios: 1.90)
    3 GB RAM
    Wacom Intuos 3 A4 (Driver: pro610-5)
    Windows XP (Service Pack 3)
The System is brandnew, the Windows-Installation is fresh, before the CS4 Suite there has not been another Adobe-Program on the machine.
While I am quiet happy with the other programs (Illustrator, Flash, After Effects..even Bridge is starting to become useful), Photoshop CS4 shows several glitches and problems on my system. These are:
    - If activated, the GPU-OpenGL setting deactivates randomly. There's no obvious reason for this, just in the middle of work, the rotate canvas-tool is no longer available, zooming is no longer smooth. While the box in the preferences is still checked for OpenGL and my graphics-card is recognized correctly, OpenGL features just stop working. After I close and restart Photoshop everything is normal again, until the next time settings are deactivated.
I am so far not able to trace the reason for this behavior, seems to happen quiet random.
    - No "marching ants". In the same matter, the "marching ants" of selections sometimes disappear. While this is not a big problem I think i should note it here for reasons of being accurate.
    - Brush tool stops working. I have this quiet a lot. While I paint, the Brush suddenly stops working completely. It produces neither strokes nor blotches anymore. In some cases hefty drawing can result in some strange straight lines but the brush tool can only be revived by restarting Photoshop.
    - Crashes. I truly honestly haven't had a crash with CS2 and CS3 ONCE. With CS4 crashes seem to be quiet normal at this point. The application simply freezes, mostly while using the transformation tool. Killing it via the windows task manager is the only option.
    - Slow redraw. All the above mentioned problems did occur with OpenGL enabled AND disabled. It really makes no difference. So deactivating this new thing doesn't convert Photoshop back into something useful, but into a slower version of CS3. Redraw of images is considerably slower on CS4 without OpenGL, than it was on CS3, although it gets better after some time working with it. Moving a maximized Image around feels very strange, because the build up of the tiles is somehow slow and sluggish.
    - Features I used are no longer there or no longer functional. I use Layer-Comps a lot. With activated OpenGL the Script "Layer Comps to Files" does not work. It produces an error-message that reads:
    Error 1: Unable to create Window - OS error (1400) Line: 234 -> dlgMain = new Window("dialog", strTitle);
With OpenGL deactivated it suddenly works... no idea why.
In addition some features like the automatic web gallery creation have been removed from Photoshop, but i figured out how to get them back.
While these are the really bad things about the new version (on my system that is, I heard from Mac-Users who are quiet happy with PS CS4 and keep telling me how fast it is on a Mac.....) there are other things, that i don't understand. I reckon, Photoshop cs4 is first of all a Mac-product and the PC-Version is somehow adapted or converted.
Proof of this for me is the new window behavior. Windows steeling focus and blocking sight on palettes is new for a long time PC-User like me. I also don't understand, why maximizing an image does fill the complete screen thus exterminatin

While I can not help remedy your problems, Pickman, I can tell you I have mostly the same problems as you. I am not the only one either. I hear this from my students. Marching ants disappearing is normal now, palettes hiding behind windows seems common nowadays. Photoshop losing focus, a document suddenly refusing to be the front one and having to minimize the other document(s) to have it back, lasso tool suddenly not showing it's tracing mark, it's all horrible. The error 'unable to create window' is very common.
I didn't even mention the fact that it's no longer possible to downsize the Photoshop window by it's top edge, which is utterly annoying when you have multiple windows open as I often have or the fact that when I scale the main Photoshop window, the documents stay in place and that the tooltips often don't work which is confusing for the novices that I train. I thought they had remedied that in CS3, but it's back in CS4. I have been using Photoshop since version 3 (briefly) then 4, 5 et cetera. This is one of the worst releases ever.

  • Photoshop CS4 x64 Crashing on a super machine. Any suggestions will help.

I have installed 64bit Photoshop CS4 on Vista X64 Ultimate to go along with a setup among the following lines
    Some Asus Motherboard
    Inel Xeon E5410 2.33ghz
    32GB of Ram
    NVIDIA 9800 GT
    And  WD 500gb HD
First, Photoshop is not working as fast as I was expecting and not as fast as I need it to. Also, the main issue, at very random moments It freezes and then I have no choice but to close it. I also have a Wacom Tablet from about 3 years ago but with the latest driver. Sometimes, the mouse pointer will freeze for about 5-10 seconds and then resume. The work is very important here and I have no Idea what to do. I've done a lot of research on this and nothing concrete. I've tried installing Photoshop on different accounts, enableing OpenGL and disableing it and no luck. I will also add that I am working with massive files, anywhere in the range of 5-8 Gigs. Any suggestions will be appreciated.
    Best,
    Mikhail

Did you update to PS 11.0.1 and get the latest drivers from the nVidia web site?
Are you aware of the pixel size limitations in different file formats?
Is the Wacom otherwise OK in the 64-bit environment?

  • Why does Photoshop CS4 keep crashing?! (Mac OS)

I use Photoshop often, daily even. I upgraded to CS4 at the beginning of this year and have a CONSTANT and very IRRITATING problem. It keeps crashing, for no apparent reason. It will crash during all kinds of "tasks". Saving, opening an image from RAW, using the liquify tool, using the clone tool, running an action and any number of others tasks cause a crash in Photoshop CS4.
I work relatively fast, as I use Photoshop on a daily basis. This is how it will happen...
I'll be working on an image and I "command S" to save. There will be a slight delay of about 2-4 seconds and then Photoshop will crash and I will get a pop-up screen to submit a crash report. I have submitted literally hundreds, if not thousands of these. Then, Photoshop sits idle for a few minutes as if it is locked up, unable to "Relaunch". So, I then usually have to "Force Quit" Photoshop, yet, it will not immediatly quit. It takes another couple of minutes to do so before I am able to begin working again. This process happens, on average, a couple of times per hour, if not more.
Luckily, I have "trained" myself to save after almost ever thing I do. But, I inevitable loose something as it happens just after a "task" or during a "save". (It happens during a save frequently.) Plus, I'm loosing valuable time waiting on it to Relaunch, and figuring out where I'm at on the image all over again.
Needless to say, I'm beyond frustrated, to say the least.
There is something else that doesn't make sense. My business partner, who also has a new IMac (not the VERY newest model that just came out but the one just prior to that...It was purchased in December 08 as well) and also runs CS4 does not have this crashing problem! At all! Not once.
Here's the difference in our systems...He purchased the 24" model, while I purchased the 20". And, this is where I actually think the problem may lie...I am running dual monitors, while he does not.
I've tried to trouble-shoot this problem, since he does not have the problem, while I do. I did "About this Mac" on both our machines to see if there were any obvious differences, besides running dual monitors. What I found under HARDWARD were only two minor differences. His processor speed is 2.8 while mine is 2.66 GHz. and the SMC Version of his machine is 1.3f1, while mine is 1.29f1. There were no differences in the GRAPHICS/DISPLAYS section either, beyond my having a second display.
Both his and my graphics/displays are as follows:
    ATI Radeon HD 2600 Pro:
Chipset Model:    ATI Radeon HD 2600 Pro
      Type:    Display
      Bus:    PCIe
      PCIe Lane Width:    x16

      Quartz Extreme:    Supported

Below is the information regarding my second display.
    LaCie 324:

      Mirror:    Off
      Online:    Yes
      Quartz Extreme:    Supported
      Rotation:    Supported
      Television:    Yes
As you can see, my second display is a Lacie 324. It is rather new, I purchased it in November or December 08 as well as my IMac. I have the Lacie set as my main display.
When I have Googled this Photoshop CS4 crash problem, I have come across some mention of the GPU Settings and Enable OpenGL Drawing. I have to admit, I really don't understand this. Should OpenGL Drawing be on or off??? I turned OpenGL Drawing off some time ago because I had a problem with calibrating my Lacie monitor. My monitor was showing images skewed toward red, while my prints were coming out with less red. I Googled this problem (at the time I didn't think this was related to the crashing issue) and someone said they were having trouble calibrating their monitor as well and managed to "fix" that by turning "Enable OpenGL Drawing" off. I did that and it did indeed fix the problem with getting my Lacie monitor calibrated. FYI, my business partner also turned off the Enable OpenGL Drawing feature and...again...he has NOT had the problem with Photoshop CS4 crashing. So, since he is not having the problem and I am, I would assume the "Enable OpenGL Drawing" issue that is mentioned on this site, is not the crashing problem, though I could be wrong.
So, I go back to having a second monitor as being the most-likely candidate for causing the Photoshop crashes. I am wondering if the Lacie display is "drawing" the graphics at the speed that differs, or is incompatable, with Photoshop CS4??? This is just a guess from someone who is not all that technically savy. But, again, I'm not sure. I have also looked on the Lacie website for any updates for the Lacie 324. There are none, as far as I can tell.
I am curious if others with and without dual monitors are having these crashes. If so, have you found any resolution? I'm desperate for help so if anyone can shed any light on this issue, it would be most appreciated.
Below, I will put some specs about my machine, in case that is helpful.
    Hardware Overview:
      Model Name:    iMac

  • Still can't get Photoshop CS4 extended to launch in OS 10.4 or 10.5

    Hi,
I posted this question recently and thought I had an answer.
    >>>>I have the Adobe Creative Suite installed on my Powermac DP 1.8 MHz (2004). I have 1.5 GB RAM,
and the system runs pretty well. I do have some 3rd party RAM added, and added a new graphics card recently.
I cannot get Photoshop to launch at all. It crashes during "loading suites", and the crash report mentions:
    Exception Type: EXC_BAD_ACCESS (SIGBUS)
    Exception Codes: KERN_PROTECTION_FAILURE at 0x0000000000000020
    Crashed Thread: 0
    Thread 0 Crashed:
    0 libSystem.B.dylib 0x96d377d4 _none_wcsnrtombs + 60
    1 libSystem.B.dylib 0x96c5c754 __swsetup + 212
    .....and the list is longer.
Anyway, I tried all the usual things, deleting preferences, checking the disk, booting 10.4 in safe mode. I even upgraded to 10.5, got a new graphics card and had the same results after an "archive and install".
The only other variable I can think of is the video card, unless the Photoshop install disk is bad.
All the other applications from the suite seem to work OK, though not extensively tested.
My old video card was an nVidia 5200 ultra 64MB. I upgraded the card by buying a reconditioned, flashed PC card, the nVidia 6800 GT 256MB. The card seems to work great. It is listed as compatible for Windows PCs. Could there be some incompatibility with it??
Thanks for any advice. I'd hate to have to downgrade to CS3 for this. <<<<
Back to the new message... So i bought an nVidia 7800 GS that should be compatible, and the seller said it was tested with OpenGL and Photoshop CS4, but it STILL crashes with the same error message. Bad install disk? Anyone have an idea? Thanks.

    Hi,
The guy I bought the GeForce 7800 GS card said it had been tested with photoshop CS4 in Leopard.
Breaking news... I tried re-installing Photoshop, Now there's an error at the end of the installation. "Done with Errors" which leads to the Support Advisor which leads to...
"Error "Unable to read Adobe file version for path /Library/Fonts/MinionPro-Bold.otf" when installing the Adobe Creative Suite 4 or Point Products on Mac OSX"
Is my whole problem font-related? I tried unlocking the Minion font mentioned, re-installed. same thing. I moved all the Minions fonts to the desktop, still no good. Are all the fonts locked? The info window said that font was unlocked to System read/write, but locked to read-only for Admin. There's no way to unlock all the fonts at once? Help!

I have to install Photoshop CS4 extended on a new computer from a disk because my old computer had a hard drive crash.  There is no serial number on the back of the case.  How can I obtain a usable serial number?

    Find your serial number quickly
You can activate software without following up and registering it... at least that was the case in the past.  The serial number is normally located on the disc case or a box inside the main box.  If you did not purchase the disc from Adobe then it is possible you would have dealt with a redemption code, in which case it would have been up to you to keep a record of the serial number, especially if you did not follow up and register the software.

  • Problem installing Adobe Photoshop CS4. Please help me.

    Hi Geeks,
I am stuck with Adobe Photoshop CS4 (Trial) installation since last two days. I am desperately looking for help to get rid of this problem.
    My Problem:
At the end of installation of Adobe Photoshop CS4 (Trial) i was prompted with en error
message stating some of the components were not installed.  When I check the more information button provided in the error message window, it showed below error.
“Adobe Photoshop CS4 English Language Pack Error: Error 2.”
Still I could find the installed Photoshop in C:\Program files\Adobe\Adobe Photoshop CS4\Photoshop.exe
When I executed above file; application showed below error message and close it.
“Some of the application components are missing from the application directory, Please reinstall the application.”
I just try to run Adobe Device Central CS4 which was installed along with it.  It showed below error message.
“The Localized resource files for this application could not be loaded. Please reinstall or repair the application and try again.”
So My Problem is I am unable to open Photoshop CS4 after its unsuccessful installation.
I spent more than a day in different ways as I explained below in more info section.  I am desperately looking for helping hands to fix this problem.
I ever find this kind of difficulty with any other components installation in my 10 years of development experience.  Please help me.
    More info:
    (1) I have downloaded Adobe Photoshop CS4 (Trial) in this month (July 09) from adobe official site.
    (2) My PC OS Windows XP SP3.
    (3) Prior to install Photoshop CS4 I had Acrobat reader 8 and Adobe DW CS4.
    (4) After I read some stuff on net, I downloaded both Windows install Clean up and CS4InstallerDatabaseUtility.exe.
    (5) First I uninstalled all DW CS4 and Photoshop CS4 using add/remove then rebooted.
then ran CS4InstallerDatabaseUtility.exe (which really did not removed as it did not
find any Adobe component), then installed Photoshop CS4. No luck. same error.
    (6) This time I ran CS4InstallerDatabaseUtility.exe and removed DW CS4, Photoshop CS4 and flash and rebooted. Then I ran Photoshop CS4 as Administrator. Same thing repeated at the end of installation and when I tried to open the photoshop.  Finding a real hard time with it.
Any kind of help to get rid of this problem would be highly appreciated.
    Thanks in advance.
    Regards,
    R Sunil.

PS CS4 software itself has to be installed as Admin. Put the downloaded folder on the desktop (if not there already). Open the folder and right click on the .exe file and choose run as Admin.
Install on C drive is the best stable choice.
Before you do all this make the anti-virus is turned off. If windows defender is running turn that off too. If Adobe reader is installed renove that. Ensure no other adobe products are running in the background.
During install the process will hang at 90 percent for about 10 to 15 mins. This is normal.
After the software is installed reboot computer.
After reboot go to start, All Programs and right click on PS CS4. Click on properties, Compatibility and check run as Admin. Hit Apply and OK to close. Run PS CS4 and update to 11.0.1
    Be Advised:
Now the biggest problem you might run into is that the trial install went too far and failed. If this happened you cannot re-install PS CS4 trial because of the DRM that is hidden in the registry hive. The hidden DRM prevents people from installing the trial more then once and limits the trial at 30 days. There is nothing you can do other then nuking the hard drive and a fresh install of your operating system.

  • Adobe Photoshop CS4 has Stopped Working on Windows 7

Hey guys and girls. I recently got a new computer running Windows 7 64bit. I still have good ol photoshop cs4 and wanted to use it on this new computer. The install process was completed and as I started the program, I get the "Adobe Photoshop CS4 has stopped working" box. I've looked through some forums, and a lot of them mention the wacom tablet issue, which is not the issue since I've yet to install the drivers for my tablet. Has anyone come across this problem at all? This is what shows up when I get that error box.
    C:\Users\Administrator\AppData\Local\Temp\WERCA9F.tmp.WERInternalMetadata.xml
      C:\Users\Administrator\AppData\Local\Temp\WERE1B8.tmp.appcompat.txt
      C:\Users\Administrator\AppData\Local\Temp\WERE246.tmp.mdmp
    Please help, thanks in advance

The first thing that I would do is insure that you have the latest video driver installed (but do keep any older ones, just in case you must roll-back - newest is not always the best).
If that does not help, then open Even Viewer, and check for all warning, or error messages in System and Application tabs, for the time that PS crashed. If you find any with links, follow those links - be patient, as some might take a few moments to send data to MS, and then for MS to process it, to open the proper page for that link plus the data gathered. This ARTICLE goes into a bit more detail, and I do not think that it is too Adobe Premiere-centric.
    Good luck,
    Hunt

  • Photoshop CS4 has many rough spots

I've been through the mill, trying to get CS4 Design Premium to install. I finally managed, with the considerable help of a tier three Support Engineer. Since then I've had about a week's exposure to Photoshop CS4. Here's a list of things I don't like and/or those that don't work:
    1) Program always crashes when I try to save a GIF file or try to use any of the new 3D tools.
    2) I like two-across tool palette. When I drag workspace to left, it covers up this palette.
    3) I like to leave three palettes open on the right, History, Characters and Layers. For no earthly reason that I can fathom the Layers palette has gotten considerably wider, and it cannot be reduced horizontally. Oh yes, I could reduce these three to icons, but then I'd be constantly clicking to open them and clicking to close them.
    4) Open palettes have foreground precedence. This means that when I try to enlarge my workspace to the right, the workspace scroll bar disappears underneath the palettes.
    5) The essentials button is destructive. I found this out the hard way when I clicked it and it wiped out a newly customized workspace. Now I know to save my customized workspace immediately upon completion.
    6) Why did Adobe add the Adjustments button. It just creates an extra step when making adjustments. CS3 was smart enough to pop up the correct controls when adjustments were being made. Example: create New Adjustment Layer > Threshold. On my copy of CS4, I have to click Adjustments before the control shows up.
    7) The new toolbar (at top of screen) wastes considerable space and is not deselectable. Hint courtesy of Support: Save your custom workspace with a very short name 2-3 characters; then this toolbar will combine with the menu bar.
    8) Scrolling through highly magnified images is abysmally slow - much slower than it was on CS3.
    9) The clone brush is less accurate in CS4, and it doesn't always turn off when one is finished cloning.
    10) None of my CS4 files installed with responsive, indexed Help files. Now, every Help request sends me to a sluggish web site where there are no indices, poorly organized information, and in some cases just a message that Help area is under development.
    11) I haven't been able to get the Patch tool to work correctly.
    12) When program crashes (not always while attempting to save GIFs or 3D), it does so with generic, uninformative error message. In one week, I have had more Photoshop CS4 crashes than I ever experienced during the lifetime of CS3.
    13) Why did the installer leave 34 superfluous language items (ones in anything other than US English in my case) in both the Legal and Lmresources folders? The product is bloated enough without oversights like that.
How many more will I find during the next week? I don't know, but I'm sure there are more to be found. How many of those that I did notice are due to the dreadful suite installer? I don't know the answer to that one either, but I suspect the installer may well have played a role.
I'm sure many will disagree, but IMHO Photoshop CS4's user interface is godawful compared to its predecessors. I can't find a single thing that can be accomplished with less mouse activity or keystrokes than earlier versions, but I have found quite a few things that demand more.
I was fortunate enough to have my installation issues addressed by one of Adobe's top support engineers. Had it not been for that, I'm reasonably certain I'd still be trying to install CS4. I've been using Photoshop since version 3, and the Creative Suites going back to the first one. This is the first time I've ever felt that quality assurance was completely ignored for the sake of meeting a self-imposed release schedule.
As I remarked in one of my earlier email exchanges with Adobe support, "I wish that every software Product Manager would study the reasons why Vista and Office 2007 have gotten such lukewarm receptions." I'm afraid the CS4 team didn't learn from Microsoft's mistakes.

    To Chris Cox:
I have the very latest drivers for my nVidia card. If my problem with saving GIF files is unique, then I would suspect the installer might have done an incomplete job without reporting it as such. The considerable difficulties I had, over a week's time, trying to install CS4 Design Premium were by no means an isolated case. Adobe's own suggestions to address installer issues by creating Desktop installer version from distribution DVDs, installing to another drive or folder or running a cleanup tool are all acknowledgments that the installer had problems. By the way, none of these suggestions, individually or in combination worked for me. I had to dig around and locate a registry key which referred to AdobeCMapsAll. This was a CS3 key that neither the installer nor cleanup tool caught. Deleting this key allowed me to advance (but by no means finish) my installation. The story is a lot longer than this, but the bottom line is that I have good reason to doubt the installer ever did its job properly.

  • Problem with Photoshop CS4

I bought Web Creative Premium CS4 on Nov. 2007, with the hope and dreams that Photoshop CS4 could help me bring in a second income and help me with old family pictures. I wanted to install the product on another hard drive I had bought for my workstation computer. The hard drive is a western digital 150 gigabyte hard drive and I made a 40 gigabyte partition of free space for Photoshop CS4 to play on. At the time there were no advanced tutorials on advance installation of the product on another partition on the internet. CS4 was new on the market.  I sent an email in to the forum and explained my disposition. I wrote an essay form question. Something to this affect. I would like to be able to install Adobe Photoshop CS4 to another partition, where CS4 can build out the configuration folder, the brush folder, the template folder, etc.. on another hard drive other than C:\ and the registry configuration can build out the proper configuration commands in the registry to point CS4 to those location on startup. After that long question I got a one sentence answer.  “ Yes you can install Adobe Photoshop CS4 custom to any hard drive”. I assumed from the answer I was not dealing with an intelligent community, so I decide to just suffer the best I could. With over several updates and several re-installs of the product I have concluded that Photoshop CS4 is not user friendly. I go through a daily step of procedures, which gives me an outcome of a final product. Though Photoshop CS4 does not work in a perfect world, even though you pay your life’s dreams into it. I have to change my procedure steps every time after a new update is installed. Since I cannot get any help with this problem, or an advanced computer technician with a B.A. in Computer Science to help me. I see no other recourse in keeping this product, and would like to know how I can get a full re-fund. I have only made one digital print with Photoshop CS4. That took me one year to get the general ideas without any tutorials. I happened on some basic trail and errors to get an awesome outcome with layering and lighting effects. Just some general FYI on something’s I have noticed over the years, which changed. At one time I was able to create a new layer and the background would fill in automatically white. Now I have to do it manually and sometimes when I use the magic wand to copy an object to paste it to another layer, when I go to that layer and click on the object to move it. I move the whole layer. You have to laugh, because if you don’t you would probably want to run your fist through your 22’ wide LCD screen. Thanks for listening.

Best practice is to install PS CS4 on C drive. PS Expects certain files and folders to be on C drive. Since this is a user to user forum and we (I) don't work for Adobe you will have to call Customer service for a refund.

  • How to deploy Adobe Photoshop CS4 11.0.1 update - multiple languages

    Hello
I used Creative Suite 4 Deployment Toolkit to modify Adobe CS4 installation. Installation works like a charm. I have disabled auto updates in the installation of CS4.
My problem is now finding guide or information how to deploy updates.
I have downloaded: Adobe Photoshop CS4 11.0.1 update - multiple languages from adobe.com.
Unpacked the zip and I dont see any files that I can modify to install the upgrades in silent mode. There is one setup.exe and two MSI files. I tired looking at MSI files in Wise but there was very little there.
Only information I could find was guide how to run silent updates for CS3, but I dont think its same for cs4.
I talked to Norwegian/Swedish support but that didnt get anywhere
Any info you guys can provide is greatly appreciated.

Thank you so much, this is exactly what I needed also! My deployment also worked well, but I couldn't figure out the syntax for the update.
