Is it better to run a beta or dmg version of firefox

I am now running your 10.0 beta. On my home page it says that I am not running the latest version of firefox. Should I switch over to the 10.0 dmg. version?

Hi marvrose,
You may see that message below the Google search box on www.google.com/firefox which is the old Firefox default home page. That page is no longer being maintained by Google.
You should try changing your home page to:
about:home
If you don't know how to change the home page, you should take a look at the Knowledge Base article [[How to set the home page]].
Hopefully this helps

  • For battery life is it better to run my newly acquired 2010 Macbook Pro on battery most of the time down fully then charge or plug it in most of the time?

Just wondering about my 2010 Macbook Pro 13'
For the best overall battery life is it better to run battery down each time then plug in til fully charged or just plug in and use most of the time?
    Thanks

    Hi C,
Run it about 30 minutes a day on batt, the rest on the power adapter. Every month or two, run the batt all the way down until it goes into forced sleep, wait five hours, then charge it all the way up.

  • CS6 install on a Mac after running the beta

I am trying to install the release version of Photoshop CS6 on a Mac Pro after running the beta version for the past months and am unable to install because of some leftover pieces of the beta. How do I remove all of the bits and pieces of the beat to make the release version installer happy?

    Fixed this myself.
I found the uninstall script and was able to remove the old preferences.

  • Im currently running Yosemite Beta 10.10, how do i upgrade to a non beta release of yosemite?

Im currently running Yosemite Beta 10.10, how do i upgrade to a non beta release of yosemite? downloading yosemite in the app store doesn't work, i get a box that say my purchase couldn't be completed at this time. what can i do?

This seems very odd that they would completely make an entire OS X release not available at all. This is also unfortunate because some of the software use has compatibility issues with Yosemite. Thanks for the responses I will contact my local retail store and post back if they give me more information or a solution.

  • Which has given you a better experience running XP. Parallels or VM Fusion?

Which has given you a better experience running XP as a VM. Parallels or VM Fusion?
Is one more secure than the other?

...The Machine that I hvae ordered from Apple is an I7 2.9 GHz 13" MB Pro, wtih 8 Gb RAM (max).  Do you think it will have enough HP to run the Win OS and a VM from within that, using either Boot Camp or Parallels/Fusion?
And FM, I agree with you on Win 8; I have seen it, and while it's glitzy, I'm not a fan yet.  The ATM Industry is just migrating to Win 7, so I have no immediate need to support 8 yet, and will keep an eye out for one of those discounted "old fashioned" non touch-screen laptops
The i7 should do the trick. The issue is not so much that a nested VM could work but that it would have direct access to the hardware CPU and give acceptable speed, and the i7 allows that. VMware has discussions of the process here http://communities.vmware.com/docs/DOC-9150, and here http://communities.vmware.com/docs/DOC-8970. The maximum VM RAM assignment allowed in Fusion 5 is 8 GB and your Mac needs its own RAM to function too, so 8 GB total may be a bit tight (you can hack the .vmx file to allow more RAM to be devoted to the VM if you have it and I give 12GB to Windows 7 and 8 VM's just to be safe). But if  all you're running when you're demoing the Win Server is Fusion, you can probably get by. You might raise your question directly on VMware's Fusion forum http://communities.vmware.com/community/vmtn/desktop/fusion?view=discussions&sta rt=0 and see what the experts say.
Windows 8 is a surprisingly fast OS without the eye candy of Win 7 once you get past the Metro interface. That can be done easily with Classic Shell http://www.classicshell.net/, which bypasses the Metro start screen at boot, stays in the desktop, and brings back the Start button. And for what M$ is getting for a full Windows install these days, having it come in a PC instead of a box or download can be quite a saving.

  • Running 4 Beta and 3.6 on same machine

After installing the Beta 4 version of Firefox, my existing 3.6.6 version's icons were hijacked by the Beta install. I couldn't run 3.6.6 at all until I uninstalled the Beta version.
    == This happened ==
    Every time Firefox opened
== I installed the Beta version

Bo - I agree with the answer you got about having both AA 3.0 and AA CS5.5 on the same computer.
I not only have the both on mine but also have Cool Edit and Audacity.  I find different processing effects
that I may not have in one piece of software.  This gives me versatility.   Seems like everytime Adobe
upgrades their recording software they take away something that the last version had that was good.
You'd think they would just add on and not take away or at least tell you what took the place of the
    discontinued effect.  Ed

  • Wich mac is better for running Motion ?  iMac 27" retina or Mac Pro 8 core ?

wich mac is better for running Motion ?  iMac 27" retina or Mac Pro 8 core ?

I'm not sure if you've returned the monitor but I had the same problem with my new Mac Pro.
Basically the Dell monitor doesn't identify itself properly via Mini Display Port/Thunderbolt and newer Macs think it's a TV so the wrong kind of signal is sent to the monitor.
It's easily fixed - don't be put off by the instructions below, I've just done it and it takes less than a minute.
    Here's what you do:
Download the Ruby script (click 'patch-edid.rb' in yellow):
    http://embdev.net/topic/284710#3027030
Move the downloaded 'patch-edid.rb' file to your desktop
Open the Terminal app from: /Applications/Utilities/Terminal
In Terminal, type the following and hitting enter  (or copy and paste it into Terminal and hit enter):
    ruby ~/Desktop/patch-edid.rb
    Go to your desktop
Check that a new folder was created - something like: "DisplayVendorID-10ac"
Open the Display Overrides folder at:
    /Macintosh HD/System/Library/Displays/Overrides/
Copy the new folder into the /Overrides directory
Authenticate with your user password (if asked)
    Restart your mac
For the first few seconds after restart it might look like nothing has changed but by the time you see the login screen (or your Desktop) everything will look as it should.
That's it - you won't have to do this again unless you erase and reinstall your mac.
    Hope that helps someone.
    Cheers

    Thanx!

The best maintained PowerPC browser at the moment is TenFourFox:
    http://www.floodgap.com/software/tenfourfox/
It is a Mac port of a newer version of FF thatn any PowerPC Mac can support natively. It runs, looks and feel like FF.
I found some add-ons that helped TFF with speed issues. Pleae see my post in another PPC forum:

  • Would like to know which /beta/ I have from beta channel

About Firefox says (today) I have version 25.0, which is what it said when I had an update waiting. I then accepted the update, so I should have a version that is different than I had before, but About Firefox didn't change what it showed me.
At one time the About Firefox dialog did show us beta channel people which beta they had.
I looked at the "Troubleshooter" data posted with this question and I can't see how YOU (Firefox developer) can tell which beta I have.

I have a different version than I had before, so it's not as simple as "you still have [the beta of] Version 25". My question is similar to, "I had 25 dollars and some change, and then I found a penny, how much money do I have" and someone tells me I still have 25 dollars. It's not wrong, but it's not what I want to know. I want more precision.

  • I Beta tested 4.0 RC1 and now can not upgrade to 4.0. Error message is need to reboot to complete prior instalation. Have removed all previous versions of Firefox, rebooted and still same error message.

I Beta tested up to and including 4.0 RC1 without major problems. However I can not now upgrade to 4.0. Same error message time and again, "need to reboot to complete prior upgrade instalation". I rebooted several times, then tried first removing all previous versions of Firefox using both MS Add/Remove and then iolo System Mechanic, then again downloading 4.0. Even after rebooting same error message. I can not therefore install/use Firefox.

    Do a clean (re-)install:
    * Download a fresh Firefox copy and save the file to the desktop.
    * Firefox 4.0: http://www.mozilla.com/firefox/all.html
    * Uninstall your current Firefox version and remove the Firefox program folder before installing that copy of the Firefox installer.
    * Don't remove personal data if you uninstall the current version.
    * It is important to delete the Firefox program folder to remove all the files and make sure that there are no problems with files that were leftover after uninstalling.
Your bookmarks and other profile data are stored elsewhere (not in the Firefox program folder) and won't be affected by a reinstall, but make sure that you do not select to remove personal data if you uninstall Firefox.
