Is it better to use macbook with ac power?

is it safer to use macbook pro with ac power?

Both are safe lol!
You need to run it on battery at least every now and then so that the battery will remain capable of holding charge, otherwise if you dont use the battery for a long period of time you will notice the health and charge retention begin to drop. The mac is great with battery life, its made to be portable and run on the battery (as all laptops are), so you should have no fear using the battery until it is almost depleted, and then plugging in the AC to continue using the mac while it charges. Mac batteries have stupidly long lives, have a look at mine below, its been nearly a year now. The battery cycle represents the number of times the battery has been run down to 0%. It is accumulative, so for example say you run your battery down to 50% then charge it back up then run it down to 50% again, that counts as a ful run down to 0% and is one cycle

  • Used MacBook with no install discs...

I just bought a used MacBook with no install discs for the OS.
I would like to know what my options are for getting the OS.
How much am I going to have to spend to follow the guidlines and EULA?
    Thanks

If you don't have your install disks you can get the two gray install disks by callingApple Store Customer Service at 1-800-676-2775 They can send them to you for about $16 per disk plus S & H. Just give them your serial number and they'll know which ones you need. With the original disks you also get the iLife that was current when your MacBook was bought included on the #2 disk.
Or you can get Snow Leopard for $29 if you have at least 1gb of RAM and a working DVD drive.  http://store.apple.com/us/product/MC573Z/A?mco=MTY3ODQ5OTY
If you only want iPhoto or other single apps from iLife '11 and iWork '09 you can get them from the App Store after you've upgradedto 10.6.6. iPhoto, iMovie or Garage Band for $15 each and Pages, Keynote or Numbers for $20 each.

  • Issues using macbook with bootcamp and external apple monitor

I am having issues using an apple external monitor connected to my macbook with bootcamp - in particular, if i connect the monitor to the computer when the computer is already on, it won't work. Also, when i disconnect the monitor fromt he computer, the computer screen will go black and I'll have to re-start
Anybody experienced the same and can help?
    Thx

just make sure that while its standing on its side there aren't any plugs or cables on that side. I'm not familiar with the mb port setup, but having power, two usb, and a display cable could prose a problem for sideward standing if they are on separate sides of the machine.
as the first commenter mentioned the orientation of your computer is irrelevant, but you wouldn't want to have the weight of the laptop sitting ontop of a usb or video plug that's coming out the side.

  • Is anybody using macbook with logic pro ? impressions ??

    anybody ?
or do you think its a good idea to run logic on it ?
    thanks

    cool
i tried using logic with pb 12"
but couldnt have any plug ins active when recording vocals or it records crackly.
th escreen sizeis no problem, coz i set up screen sets , so f1 for 12 vocal tracks, f2 for next 12, f3 for mixer part 1, etc
click of a button to see what you want big enough, i never really need to see all the tracks in one go
i would have thought the ibook would have more problems than the pb !
but maybe your studentis just using it for midi....
    which takes no power lol....
anyone actually using a macbook with logic ?

  • Used macbook with blank HDD

I saw some used Macbook CD (black) selling for less than $1000 in Japan. Will I be able to buy the recovery discs from Apple store? or can I just buy OSX Tiger and install? Thanks in advance for the advice.

It's not necessarily useless, but you would need to obtain the installer discs in order to install OS X. They can be purchased through AppleCare (don't know about getting them from a local Apple retailer.)
You may want to check Apple's online store for available refurbs as a comparison.

  • Use macbook pro on power adapter or on battery?

Is it recommended to use my macbook pro with the power adapter plugged in or using the battery? how does it affect the battery?

http://www.apple.com/batteries/notebooks.html.  i keep it plugged in most of the time.  i use it on battery only when i need to, or at least 1-2 times a month.

  • Safe to use MacBook with lid closed?

So my MacBook (early 2009) was in sleep mode when I put it on my desk, plugged it in, then plugged in my monitor. The monitor turned on and my desktop appeared, with the menu bar and dock on it. When I normally use a monitor with my MB, the MN screen is my main screen. Obviously it woke up when I plugged in the monitor and USB mouse. My question is, can I use it like this all the time? I prefer to use the external monitor as much as possible, and being able to close the MB lid when it's on my desk would save a lot of room.

  • Any compatibility issues using MacBook with client's A/V setups geared towards PCs?

I travel giving PowerPoint seminars to US companies. I bring my PC laptop and plug into their projector.  I'm considering switching from my 12" ThinkPad to the MacBook Air 13".  In that every one of my clients for the past 13 years have used PC machines will I encounter any compatibility problems with clients' PC A/V setups?

Ok, I solved the problem. Thanks to those who at least thought about replying.
For those having the same issue: I found the problem lies in the "hot plug detect" feature of dvi. What I did I just cut the hot plug pin (see wikipedia:dvi) off the dvi adaptor, isn't it clever? Hah, I wouldn't call it "plug 'n play", but at least it works. Then I connect the dvi to the g2400w and set the monitor "hdmi in", then detect displays from display settings, it'll detect it, and then simply i set the monitor to dvi in.

  • Using macbook with new monitor.

I recently purchase a macbook and I want to use it as my main computer. If I hook it up to a monitor can I close the macbook cover and still have it functioning? Can I hook up my keyboard and mouse to the USB ports and my sound speakers to the audio output.

Yes everything you are describing should work fine...

  • Using macbook with xbox 360.

I was wondering if I could hook up my xbox 360 to play through my future macbook. How well would that run? Or should I just not even try to attempt that?

Are you asking if you could hook up your xbox to the mac to play games on the mac?
If that is what your asking, I don't think it work work, I am sure you would be able to find a way, but it would be very slow. So I would suggest that you don't even try. I am not even sure if you could do that.

OK, it is generally a matter of responsiveness that it has been placed here. I can make a straight duplicate of the question and put it there. I am not sure of what the admin privileges of an MCC is on here but I request that it gets left for the moment.

  • Charging MacBook with 240V Power Supply

I am traveling to South America. The battery chargers for both my Pentax and Canon Digital Cameras indicate they accept input: AC100-240V~50-60Hz. I see no such indication for charging my MacBook. Will I need a power converter or will I be able to charge my MacBook by simply using the appropriate plug adaptor?
    Thanks
    Jim

It's there it is just hard to read with the little letters. They are rated 100 VAC to 240 VAC so your good to go. All you need is the slide on adapter to make it fit the correct plug.

  • Macbook with no power. Need to confirm if any data on hard drive

My old Macbook will no longer power up.  I only need to migrate the data to my new MacAir.  Is there a way to confirm if there is any data left on the hard drive and if there is, can it be migrated to the new Mac without being in the computer?   I do know I was having issues with migration because I had the Fire Vault (?) activated, so needed to enter my password to allow for the migration.
    Thanks!

you can take out the drive and put it in an external enclosure like this and then plug it into your new mac.

  • Using arduino with electrical power suite

I am using an arduino to measure voltage and current and eventually get the power readings . But however when i am getting  the readings from the analog input  and connect it to my power VI the  power factor remains 1or -1 . I am measuring single phace power. I am using an SCT- 013 -000 current transformer for the current . and apower transformer for the voltage 240 - 6V . below is my vi and screenshots . Can you help me troubleshoot why my powerfactor isonly flickering between 1and -1 . for all loads including resistive , capacitive and inductive loads .
    Attachments:
Power from Wall Socket.vi ‏45 KB
    VI outlook.PNG ‏58 KB

OK. Let's try to define some terms.
Phase resolution: The smallest difference in phase angle between the voltage and current waveforms that can be measured.
Example: At 50 Hz one period is 20 ms. If you take a sample every millisecond (1 kHz), you will get 20 samples per cycle of the 50 Hz signal. That is equvalent to 18 degrees between samples. Since power factor is proprtional to the cosine of the phase difference you would get possible power factor values of 1, 0.95, 0.81, and 0.59 for phase differences of 0, 18, 36, and 54 degrees or time differences of 0, 1, 2, 3, and 4 milliseconds.
If the sampling rate is 120 Hz, the period is 8.333 ms and the phase resolution is 150 degrees. That is meaningless for power factor measurements.
Next, the Arduino LINX software cannot achieve anywhere near 120 Hz as you have the VI set up.  Open up the LINX VIs and look at what they are doing. It sends an 8-byte packet to define a channel. Then it waits for 2 bytes to return. One of those bytes tells the next VI how many data bytes are coming. It appears that you get 2 bytes of data from each read. That is a total of 24 bytes for two channels. The digital write also sends 8 bytes although that runs in parallel with the reads. With the standard settings doing two one-channel analog reads takes at least 25 ms. That is equivalent to a sampling rate of 40 Hz. The Nyquist criterion specifies that the sampling rate must be greater than twice the frequency of the signal you want to measure. So your sampling rate needs to be >100 Hz.
If you use the N Channel version of Analog Read for two channels (as opposed to the two separate Reads you have now), it sends a 9-byte packet and receives 6 bytes. The maximum rate it could achieve is ~64 Hz, which is still far too slow.

  • Using macbook as a desktop...is it dangerous?

my doubt is about the battery life,if i use macbook with the battery in and also with the power adapter; is it a risk for the battery?should i use the macbook withouth the battery inserted and only with power cable?
    Thank's!

No, you should always leave the battery in. The reason is that under peak load the MacBook actually require more power than the power adapter can provide and it gets the added power from the battery. if you remove the battery the processor will step down in speed… to 1GHz I believe.
While there is no problem with using your MacBook as a desktop, many of us do, just be mindful to use your battery regularly. The more it's used the better it will stay in top condition. And remember to calibrate around one a month.
