Is it common for iTunes Radio to disconnect often?

I listen to the radio on iTunes quite a bit. In particular, CINEMIX.
But it disconnects/cuts out often and I have to press play again.
I contacted my ISP who gave the usual "try a different router, microfilter, cable and plug in master socket" routine before doing a test. I hate that. Well it so happens I needed a new router anyway, so I do now have a new system, complete new router, microfilter and cables. But I still get the issue. I dont notice my computer going offline on the internet at all, unless its extremely quick to disconnect and come back.
So I wondered if its common for iTuns Radio to be disconnecting, rather than my internet?
Thanks

Hi.  I bought a new iphone 5 four days ago and was horrified that it discharged in less than a day with one phone call and a bit of facebook browsing.  I then read up all the info and tips on the web.  I turned off everything that wasn't necessary - mainly in location services, turned e-mails to fetch and not push. Also turned off i cloud so it will only back up when I tell it to.  Battery still drained very quickly.  I then plugged into itunes and did a whole restore (always had to do this previously for any software update before icloud!).  That was yesterday morning at about ten o'clock.  Phone was then at 100 percent.  Have used it yesterday quite a bit, didn't charge it overnight and it is now at 63% so I think that has solved the problem.  One other thing I noticed was that the shop set the default e-mail to I cloud and I always had the default set to my main e-mail account.  On completely restoring it has now put the default e-mail to mine.  Don't know if there is any connection or not.  All I can say is that the complete restore seems to have solved the problem.  Hope it works!

Silly question.....Do you have to pay for Itunes Radio ....for my Mac?

The ad-supported version of iTunes Radio is free. You can get the version without ads by subscribing to iTunes Match which is $24.99 US per year.

What is the sample rate and codec for iTunes Radio? Is it lossless encoded?

I have to agree with you.  There are several forum discussions on bit rate being as high as 256 kbps but I don't see how it could be more than 96 kbps based on the poor sound quality I'm hearing.  I'm comparing it to an internet radio station that is 128 kbps and sounds much better.
    Am I missing something?

Am I the only person having this problem? When I ask Siri to open iTunes Radio the last station I used comes up but I cannot open iTunes Radio.

  • Error message for iTunes radio

Two days ago I got this message when I tried to listen to the radio through iTunes. "An error occurred while contacting the radio tuning service. Check your internet connection, or try again later." My internet connection is fine. It still won't connect. No Norton's either.

After further listening, it can occur randomly, after commercials or songs. Always between songs/commercials though. I called iTunes support. It was tough to pinpoint the cause. After I got off the phone I decided to create a new user account on one of the computers (not a new iTunes account but a new computer user). When logged into this fresh account iTunes radio has been playing for the past two days with no issues, no interruptions. So its looking like a problem on the user account side. I am going to rebuild / reinstall iTunes from scratch on my regular user account and hopefull this will solve the problem. I'll post back here with results. Possibly this weekend.

  • Is there a charge for itunes radio?

I seem to remember reading something about paying to have ad-free access to iTunes radio. I've been playing it a good deal of today and haven't heard any ads that I can recall. I also didn't get an pop-up asking me if I wanted to pay. I don't want to be surprised by a $25 charge.

You get ad-free access if you have iTunes Match ($24.99 p.a.) which allows you to upload or match songs you didn't purchase in the Store - the iTunes Radio access is included with this. Without it you get the ads but it's free.

  • Lets convince Apple to change premium iTunes Radio rules for iTunes Match subscribers!

Is it a bug that iTunes Radio does not recognize that your iDevice is a premium iTunes Radio user unless you have iTunes Match turned on?
As far as I can tell Apple has this as a feature so that you are considered a free user for iTunes Radio on your iDevice unless you have iTunes Match turned on.
    Why is this?
I only want my favorite songs on my iDevice, not all of my songs on there. Apple should recognize this and allow us to use iTunes Radio without ads on our iDevices, even if iTunes Match is not turned on on our iDevices.
So, comment on this if you believe Apple should change their rules to meet this request so we can listen to iTunes Radio without ads for iTunes Match subscribers, even if we don't have iTunes Match turned on for our iDevice(s). That way Apple can see their users care about this and want this to be a feature. We are paying for this, so having this feature would be helpful, especially for those of us who have iTunes Match turned off on iDevices because we don't have enough space on our iDevices to hold all of our songs.
I might stop paying for iTunes Match if I can't even use the service for what I'm paying Apple for.
If Apple employees read this, could you please pass on this request to higher management?
    Thanks!

    Hi,
It is not a bug! It is the method that Apple decided use to prove iTunes Radio.
As this is a user to user forum, it is unlikely that Apple will acknowledge our comments. I suggest that you provide feedback to Apple http://www.apple.com/feedback/itunesapp.html.

  • I want a entire history of iTunes radio

I want to buy a few songs and I thought I iTunes radio history would remain but it doesn't. The World music station is now only playing soccer music and I am unable to get the history. I am willing to part with money so if I could get the history that would be great.

For a history of your listens, set up a free account on last.fm, and adopt a last.fm scrobbler, which can record each song as it is played.  There is a plug-in available for iTunes Radio.

  • Is anyone else having difficulties with the Appstore not loading, iTunes store being unresponsive, and iTunes radio being down constantly today?

My itunes store is having connectivity issues and my net connection is fine.  My appstore is also coming up blank rather frequently as well.  Also I have not been able to get my itunes radio to work - saying an internet connection problem - again not the issue.  Anyone else having these issues?

It sure is...all three keep acting very wonky.  I'll be able to access the store from my macbook and then browse then not be able to connect.  Same goes for app store....
As for itunes radio....seems a hot topic for everyone.

  • Itunes radio subscription still giving me commercials

I subscribed to iTunes Radio in Nov 2014, and periodically it resumes interrupting with commercials. There is no simple iTunes Radio support process that allows my to register my complaint. (iTunes Radio isn't even listed with your other products/services in the menu under "Identify your product and operating system.") So now I have two complaints. Where are you, Apple?

To add to my earlier complaint: I can't even use their Support Call process because it requires a product serial number, and there isn't one for iTunes Radio.

  • TS5181 iTunes radio - Bit Rate and recording

There is an ongoing comparision to Pandora however, I suggest that Pandora offers a better value by far:
    1. iTunes Radio does not state bit-rate
    2. Pandora One is 192kb for $40/yr, with no adds; free Pandora is 64kb and has adds
    3. PandoraJam permits recording to Mac, $15 one-time cost, 192kb unlimited downoads
    4. iTunes Match, at $25/yr, permits saving current and paid misic to iCloud plus no adds, but STILL charges $1.29/song.
NOTE: I am pro Apple and nearly all my IT devices are Apple however; this is a difficult business case.
Can anyone tell me why iTunes Radio would be a better deal?

I'm curious as well what the bit rate is for iTunes Radio and am suprised Apple hasn't published it.
Forbes.com is doing a followup story soon which will compare iTunes Radio, Spotify and Pandora that you may want to check out.

Apple has a history of withholding geek-oriented specs on consumer-oriented products. By their silence I think we can assume that it’s not higher than what Pandora’s max setting offers. And it certainly wouldn’t make sense for the rate to be greater than the 256 kbps of iTunes purchases.
There’s also the possibility that Apple is offering adaptive rates depending on whether a user is connected over WiFi or cellular.
I’m working on a story comparing aspects of iTunes Radio, Pandora and Spotify (stay tuned) and I’ll report on whether there’s an audible difference between them.
Also found a post on Macrumors by someone who did their own "test" yesterday who is suggesting that it is 256 kbps similar to what you get for iTunes purchases.

Money and "value" aside, I've been listening to iTunes Radio for a day now on my Denon AVR and B &W surround sound system via airplay streaming to my AppleTV and it sounds as good as Pandora One -- and I think the playlist alogorithim is superior to Pandora as I'm hearing a bunch more variety and music I like on a station I created similar to one I have on Pandora.
