Is it dangerous to frequently reset my iPod?

(i posted this question earlier... im just trying to see if i can get any more advice)
hey everyone,
i recently purchased a 30 gb 5th generation iPod and have been constantly trying to get video on to it. when i finally did, the video would come up blotchy with pixel streaks and breaks in the picture. very confused i went to apple support and did what they said to do....reset my iPod. low and behold...the image problems were gone.
however...
after i shut off my ipod and went about my business....a few hours later i turned the ipod back on and discovered the image problems had returned. so i reset it. great. but it keeps doing this. everytime i wish to watch video or my photo slideshow without streaks or pixels i must reset my ipod. it seems simple but im truly concerned that repeated reseting of my ipod could cause damage
so my question is..... is it safe to reset my ipod upwards of once a day? will it cause long term file loss or hardware damage?
if it is dangerous...then why is my ipod doing this, what should i do, and who should i consult? do you think restoring my iPod would do the trick?
please help me!
concerned customer,
Scott C.
( no offense btabz, i was just looking for an alternative to restoring... but i might just have to do that anyway. thanks for your advice! )

no i dont have any audiobooks on it.
see what really scares me is my photo slideshow was working great til i downloaded a movie. the movie worked fine the first time i watched it then i came back and watched it again and it got all pixellated. thats when the resetting game began. but then for kicks i went back to see if my slideshow still worked and now its pixellated too! i dont understand what i could have done to cause this problem
i guess restoring is my last resort. im gonna call apple since i get my "1 free incident in the first 90 days" but they prolly tell me the same thing.
thanks u guys i really appreciate it..... if u have any idea what could be causing this or what i did to cause it let me know so i cant stop myself from doing it again

  • How many times can you reset an ipod

I have a 4G iPod purchased 6/05. My computer is 14in iBook with Mac OS X 10.4.3. I mainly use the firewire dock connector my iBook to update music/podcasts. I use the iPod on my way to work with a Griffin iTrip and at work by hooking up to Kensington dock.
I've been having intermittent problems with the iPod freezing on me. It has happened a few times when I hit "play" on a song when it wasn't hooked up to an output source (no headphones or dock connection). But in general, I can't determine any specific inciting event to explain why the iPod freezes or why I need to reset.
The iPod responds well to a simple reset, which has been going on weekly. On one occasion, I had to completely restore it--including renaming the iPod and resyncing everything.
So, is this a normal occurence? Is a reset every week or two out of the ordinary? Is there something wrong with my iPod?
    Thanks,
    Meetul

i think having to reset your ipod really at all is out of the ordinary. bring it to an apple store, call support, or look around the forums for topics pertaining to this.

I forgot my password and am trying to reset my ipod, but it won't work.It says that my ipod is in recovery mode and that I must restore it. I click ok, and then click on restore and update. Then it says connecting ipod software update server and a screen pops up with ipod software update on the top and iOS 5.1. It lists a bunch of stuff this update contains and on the bottom it says next, which I click and nothing happens, it just goes back to the ipod restore page. Help, what am I doing wrong?

Update to the latest version of iTunes. Mac OS X 10.5.8 (Leopard) users may need to download iTunes 10.6.3.
Third-party security software or router security settings can also cause this issue. To resolve this, followTroubleshooting security software issues.
Downgrading to a previous version of iOS is not supported. If you have installed software to performunauthorized modifications to your iOS device, that software may have redirected connections to the update server (gs.apple.com) within the Hosts file. Uninstall the unauthorized modification software from the computer.
Edit out the "gs.apple.com" redirect from your hosts file, and then restart the computer for the host file changes to take affect. For steps to edit the Hosts file and allow iTunes to communicate with the update server, see iTunes: Troubleshooting iTunes Store on your computer, iPhone, iPad, or iPod—follow steps under the heading Blocked by configuration (Mac OS X / Windows) > Rebuild network information > The hosts file may also be blocking the iTunes Store. If you do not uninstall the unauthorized modification software prior to editing the hosts file, that software may automatically modify the hosts file again on restart.
Avoid using an older or modified .ipsw file. Try moving the current .ipsw file (see Advanced Steps > Rename, move, or delete the iOS software file (.ipsw) below for file locations), or try restoring in a new user to ensure that iTunes downloads a new .ipsw.

  • I forgot my passcode and want to reset my ipod. However it is not showing up in itunes

My ipod touch has a passcode on it and I can not reset it. It also does not show up in itunes. I have followed all directions

    Thanks,

You'll need to connect the device to the new iTunes library in recovery mode using the instructions in this Apple support document.  From there, restore it to factory settings.

  • How to reset my ipod touch

For the past 2 hours I have been trying to reset my ipod without a password. my computer does not accept my ipod because it does not have the new update. So when i tried to update my computer it won't accept my password to start the download. So when I tried to see wat was wrong with my password cause I knew it was right I found nothing. So I tried to restart my ipod anyway but it didn't work either. Is there a way to restart it without the computer or icloud or anything else. I'm extremly fustrated. When I restarted my nook tablet a couple months ago it wasn't nearly as difficult and it took me 5 minutes. Please help! I'm about readying to return it and get a new one cause I still got 6 months warranty on it. But I want to avoid that so please help.

If the iPod is Disabled or yur fogot the scree-lock pascode and the iPod has iOS 5 or higher, have an internet connection to the iPod
If you don't have access to a computer
If you are using Find My iPhone, you can use Remote Wipe to restore your device. If you have been using iCloud to back up, you may be able to restore the most recent backup to reset the passcode.
    Otherwise:
Place the iOS device in Recovery Mode and then connect to a computer and restore via iTunes. The iPod will be erased.

If recovery mode does not work try DFU mode.

    For how to restore:

    To restore from backup see:
    iOS: How to back up
If you restore from iCloud backup the apps will be automatically downloaded. If you restore from iTunes backup the apps and music have to be in the iTunes library since synced media like apps and music are not included in the backup of the iOS device that iTunes makes.
You can redownload iTunes purchases by:

  • If i factory reset my ipod touch(5th gen), can i reset it as the option 'set up as new ipod', and then i can just go into the app store/itunes store and restore my music and apps and not icloud with photos and ect?

if i factory reset my ipod touch(5th gen), can i reset it to the option 'set up as a new ipod', and then i can just go into the app store/itunes store and log into my apple ID so i can just restore my music and apps and not icloud with photos, contacts, ect. and then later i can add contacts that i need/want instead of them restoring them from icloud?
The reason i asked this question is because i have been wondering this a lot ever since i got an exchange on this ipod (and ive only had it for a few weeks now) because my last ipod had a lot of problems. so after i restored my ipod with my computer/itunes, i downloaded apps that i wanted, and then when i went to the storage to see how much storage was left, it said 0 bytes. i was freaking out because i didnt know how that could be, i mean, cause like, that is impossible when i just 'purchased' it, that the space was full but i looked and all my pictures were on this ipod and i already put them on my computer so i dont need them anymore thats why i wanna reset it now so there is nothing on it so i can have more space for stuff to do and download on it.
it is updated to iOS 8 but that happened when i purchased it, so i didnt have a choice to update it even though i didnt want to update to iOS 8...
and i hope you understand my problem..
i would REALLY REALLY appreciate it if someone could tell me a solution to my problem!!! thank you so much!
    -sierra

Hey Sierra, You can do just what you have stated. My question, what is your "other"? If it is over 1.5 GB you most likely have corrupt files. Doing a Restore to New, Factory restore should correct it. Just make sure you make a full backup of all information on your iPod to your computer before you restore, so you don't lose your stuff, contacts, videos, pictures, non-iTunes music, etc, use the cable and connect with your computer. Then, via cable, connect to your computer, run the Restore to new, don't use your backup. Treat this iPod as if it was your first one ever. When restore is done, set up and add what info you wish to install on this iPod. The music apps etc you purchased should be on your computer, if not you should be able to retrieve purchased apps and music from iTunes. Any music, videos, apps not purchased from iTunes will be lost to you if you do not save them to your computer or the cloud first. When your done, make a current Backup and you should good to go. Hope this helps. Good luck. Cheers.

Safari and YouTube disappear in my iPod when I up date iOS 6, do I have to reset my iPod?

Youtube was removed by Apple in iOS 6. Safari should not be removed. Try restoring your iPod in iTunes. You should then get Safari back. Also, there is a Youtube app in the App Store. It's in the free section of the Top 25.

  • Can you reset an iPod generation 3 to sync with iTunes 9?

It seems that an ipod software update occurred during reset of ipod, and now the new ipod software cannot operate with iTunes 9. I cannot upgrade iTunes because my OS is 10.4, and 10.5 is needed to update iTunes. So, now neither of my kids can sync his iPod with our family computer. Is there some way to reset the iPod so that it can operate with iTunes 9 as we have for the past year?

Sorry, but downgrading the version of iOS on an iPod is not supported. There have been some workarounds posted on the web - Google may help in this matter - but you attempt it at your own risk. You will probably be best off upgrading your computer to Mac OS X 10.5 if it will support it (10.6 would be even better if you have an Intel-based Mac). iTunes 10 is necessary not only for the current and recent version of iOS but also for full functionality with the iTunes Store.

  • How can you reset an ipod if the lock button is broken?

how can i reset my ipod if the lock button is broken?

To reset the iPod without the hardware buttons,
    - Reset network settings: Settings>General>Reset>Reset Network Settings. All your wifi and bluetooth preferences and settings are reset. Information (such as contacts and calendars) and media (such as songs and videos) aren’t affected. You will have to rejoin wifi networks and repair BT devices
If you mean place in recovery mode then use on of these

  • How do I reset my Ipod if the passcode that was put on it was entered wrong too many times and it disables the ipod?

My son put a passcode on his IPOD TOUCH and couldnt remember it and entered it too many times. Now it has disabled the Ipod and says please connect to ITunes and ITunes will not connect to it because it has been disabled, I have already spoke to an Apple representative and did exactly what they told me to do to help reset the Ipod but that didnt work. So I am trying to figure out how we can get back into his IPod even if we have to factory reset it because nothing is working, not their instructions or the internet instructions for reseting it.

i tried to soft reset my ipod touch with the top button and the screen button.  it turned off and then went to the blue screen with the apple like it should.  however, it now just stays on that screen.  it has a sort of clock looking thing at the bottom of the apple that does not move either.  it has stayed on this screen for over 4 hours.  i also can not hard reset it in itunes.  i am not really goood at this sort of thing.  does anyone have this problem or a possible solution?  thanks

    See Here for
    Frozen or unresponsive iPod touch
    The Basic Troubleshooting Steps are:
    Restart..  Reset..  Restore...
Try this First... You will Not Lose Any Data...
Turn the iPod Off... ( if it isn’t already )
Press and Hold the Sleep/Wake Button and the Home Button at the Same Time...
Wait for the Apple logo to Appear and then Disappear...
Usually takes about 15 - 20 Seconds... (But can take Longer...)
    Release the Buttons...
    Turn the iPod On...
If that does not help... See Here:
