Is it dangerous to use i-mac without front glasses to reduce mirror effect ?

Hi,
Is it dangerous to use i-mac without front glasses to reduce mirror effect ?
Can i get more specifics what the front glasses does that can be easy removed ?
best regards
Adian

The only thing that might be "dangerious" is that it would be much easier to damage the exposed display.
But if you insist, look at iFixit.com (for example, here).  Or just google "removing glass on imac" to find other techniques.

Also, if the battery runs low when I am using it, can I just plug it to a power supply to let it charge while I continue using it?
    Thank you!

Yes, you can use your Mac when charging, although it`s a bit slower compared to being in sleep mode or so.

  • Could You Use the iMac Without the Glass?

Hi. My iMac's Applecare has expired just this March. I was wondering if I could use the iMac without a glass so that things looks sharper, more vibrant colors, significantly less glare, probably will make it operate cooler and no smudge- nothing to clean all the time? I usually am the sole user of the iMac and there's no danger of the LCD being poked by someone.
    Thank you in advance.
    God bless.

I took the polycarbonate panel off my iMac as soon as I received it from a third party reseller I purchased mine from.
The screen is definitely less glossy, sharper, easier on the eyes and my iMac does run cooler.
I didn't like the look of my iMac without the blacked out areas of the  polycarbonate screen hiding the look of the aluminum frame and magnets, so I bought one of a these to restore my iMac to looking stock.

Just keep the original polycarbonate panel protected and handy to reinstall if you have to replace it to have your iMac serviced by an Apple Store or an Apple Aurhorized service center.

If you don't have the $ to get the iPad replaced by Apple or repaired at a 3rd party source, buy/install a screen protector to keep the glass intact and preclude getting cut.

  • Can some please provide instructions on how to import an iPhoto library from an old Mac to a new Mac without getting a bunch of duplicates?  I tried transferring my pictures using an external hard drive and then copying it to the Pictures folder on my Mac

Can someone please provide instructions on how to import an iPhoto library from an old Mac to a new Mac without getting a bunch of duplicates?  I tried transferring my pictures using an external hard drive and then copying it to the Pictures folder on my new Mac.  I ended up getting a bunch of duplicates. My old Mac has an older version of iPhoto while the new Mac has iPhoto '11.  Is that the cause of the problem?  Please advise.  Thanks.

Simply copy the iPhoto Library from the Pictures Folder on the old Machine to the Pictures Folder on the new Machine.
    Then launch iPhoto. That's it.
This moves photos, events, albums, books, keywords, slideshows and everything else.

  • Transfer palm data from PC to Mac without using the M100 - only exporting the data and importing?

I had an old Palm M100 that I haven't used in a while but I love the palm desktop app - my PC currently runs 4.1.4
    I have a mac powerbook and I loaded 4.2.1
When I export my calendar and address book data in the .aba and  .dba format from my PC - the Mac palm desktop app doesn't seem to recognize those file formats.
Are those not standard formats between the two platforms?  It also looks like the Mac desktop app doesn't even recognize importing data from another Palm format?  It just shows the other program formats.
Also, when importing as CSV or tab-delimeted those are extremely messed up also.
Any "easy" way to get the data off of my PC and onto my Mac without using the Palm M100 itself?
    Thanks,
    Dave

The suggestion is not accurate, at least with respect to calendar information. I'm in nearly the same situation, and just tried it. (Saving .dba file out of Windows Palm Desktop 4.1.0, importing into Mac Palm Desktop 4.2.1revD.)
First, the Mac program will not recognize the .dba as an importable format if one selects All Readable Documents.
Second, if one selects All Documents instead, you get the following error message:
The file could not be imported.
In order to import data from Windows Palm Desktop software, export the file in one of these formats: comma (.csv) or tab (.tab) delimited, vCard, or vCal.
The problem with this is that Windows Palm Desktop 4.1.0 offers only two options for exporting Date Book information:
    1) the whole datebook as a .dba file.
    2) individual calendar items as a vCal.
So far as I can see, there's no way to Select All so as to export all as a vCal, and no pre-set option to do so.

You don't need a computer to activate a new iOS device anymore. Anything with iOS 5 can be activated over a WiFi network (or cellular if that applies).

Apps are only tied to one account... You can set up two iTunes accounts on your computer, however, and let his iPad sync to his account. If he has never backed up his apps to a computer, however, he will have to redownload all the apps. Afterwards, he can backup to iCloud instead of your computer.

  • Trying to reset administrator password by using the Mac OS X Install disc to reset but it won't allow me to without original administrator password. Frustrating.

Trying to reset administrator name/password by using the Mac OS X Install disc to reset but it won't allow me to without original administrator name/password. Frustrating. Reason I'm trying to reset is that it seems to be not recognising the administrator name as have changed password in System Preferences - Accounts.
    PowerMac, Mac OS X (10.5.8)

Here's the instructions if you have the discs.
*Mac OS X: Changing or resetting an account password*

    Changing your administrator password
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?path=Mac/10.4/en/mh655.html
Here's one method to reset the password without the install disc:
    1. boot computer and hold the "apple" key and the "s" key.
    2. wait for terminal show
    3. release keys
    4. type without the quotes: "/sbin/mount -uaw"
    5. press enter
    6. type without the quotes: "rm /var/db/.applesetupdone
    7. press enter
    8. type without the quotes: "reboot"
    9. press enter
This will let you create a new admin account when you reboot your computer.
Also, without the discs, look at Mac OS X Tip - No Password, No Root, No CD? No Problem.
    http://www.macobserver.com/tip/2003/06/16.1.shtml
Without the discs, try this (OS 10.5 only). *How to Reset User Password via single user mode*
    http://macosx.com/forums/howto-faqs/300019-howto-reset-user-password-via-single- user-mode.html
Here is a way to get around not knowing the admin password on Macs.
To reset your OS X password without an OS X CD you need to enter terminal and create a new admin account:
       1. Reboot
       2. Hold apple + s down after you hear the chime.
       3. When you get text prompt enter in these terminal commands to create a brand new admin account (hitting return after each line):
              * mount -uw /
              * rm /var/db/.AppleSetupDone
              * shutdown -h now
       4. After rebooting you should have a brand new admin account. When you login as the new admin you can simply delete the old one and you’re good to go again!

  • Can I use an Mac Mini without a monitor?

I'm using a Mac specifically to develop a mobile app, and the intention was that once everything was set up, I could just TeamViewer in to take control without needing a monitor. This works fine with a monitor plugged in, but when I disconnect the monitor, I stop getting the screen.
So I suppose my question is: if I disconnect the monitor, does it stop sending the screen to TeamViewer? I could kind of understand if this was the case, but I need to know whether I absolutely must have a monitor or if there's a workaround.
Thanks in advance for any and all assistance rendered.

It should work headless, but you might need to use a dummy VGA monitor as described in this blog:

Apple TV requires an HDTV. It is a media streamer and all content would be available on your Mac so there would be no reason to connect it anyway.

You don't need to buy an earlier version of iDVD to have it run with Lion. iDVD 7 has been with us since iLife 08.  Tell us in detail what you're experiencing.
