H, trying to convert films from DVD to watch on my ipad 2, is there an easy way of doing this? any help would be great, Thanks.

Sorry, but if you're referring to commercial and hence copy-protected video DVDs, breaking the copy protection, which would be necessary to copy the videos from the DVD and convert them, is illegal in the US (and other countries), so we're not allowed to discuss it here. Some DVDs and Blu-Ray movies come with a "digital copy" that allows you to download a copy of the movie for use on portable devices. You might see if any of the DVDs you have come with such a feature.
If these are home movies that you or someone has burned to DVD and hence are not copy-protected, Handbrake (freeware) is one of the more popular converters. Once converted, you just drag the movie into the iTunes window on your computer and you can then sync it to your iPad.

What did you rent the film on, your iPad or your Mac ? If you rented it on your iPad then it should have downloaded into the Videos app on it (you should get a rentals tab in the app). If you rented it on your Mac then it should be in the Movies part of your Mac's iTunes library, you will have to connect your iPad to your Mac's iTunes and move it from your Mac to your iPad (I think that it should show on the iPad's Movies tab for moving)

I cannot help you because your description of the problem is very vague. First what software did you update, iOS or iMovie. Second where are you trying to export iMovie Films to?

You should not need to convert. Just put your camera card in a card reader and click FILE/IMPORT FROM CAMERA.
If that does not work for you, tell us which camera.
Normally, AVCHD will give you higher quality than iFrame.

Converting file from dvd for dvdsp

I've shot a video for someone. He was recently on a morning tv show being interviewed. he was given a copy on dvd. It is a "vr" file. He would like me to create a separate chapter in DVDSP for the footage. What do I need to do?

You would change it to either DV or other editable format (or you may able to directly demux to elements DVD SP can use)
As an FYI, the television morning has rights to the broadcast, so you want to be sure your friend is not running afoul of any restrictions - usually they do not mind if just part of a press kit for the person being interviewed, but keep it in mind

Converting Files from DVD Recorder disc to FCP?

I am trying to get the video and audio file off an older dvd recorder disk that I made and I'm not able to do it. I tried MPEG Streamclip and the dvd won't transfer over for some reason. I also tried to copy and paste the folder on the dvdr to the desktop and it copies up to about 60% and then stalls. Does anyone know of another method to get the files off of the dvdr? I want to change the beginning on a FC timeline and then go to DVDSP and loop for encoded file for an installation where they need the dvd to be playing continuously.

Unfortunately, these suggestions won't solve the problem. The disc was finalized and I always do otherwise you can't screen on anything else, and when I tried to copy the video and audio files onto my hd it copies only up to a certain point and then I get an error message telling me I can't go further. I don't remember the exact message, but the dvd drive slows down and stops and I can't copy further.

This is supposed to happen, licensing issue mean that Apple can't AirPlay protected content to other devices. You might try VLC instead of Apples built in DVD player.

I was hoping that FCE would be able to handle the coversion from 18 to 30fps but that appears not to be the case.
It does - If I'm not totally wrong. Can be to much using FinalCut Pro (6)
Start FCE
Select type of project You want to do
I guess - NTSC 29.97fps - Select that from FCE menu / Easy Set-up
Start a new Sequence
DROP A PHOTO in TimeLine - at beginning.
Now project is locked to 29.97 fps
Now import and drop the 18fps clip in TimeLine.
Select to convert it to match the setting of TimeLine.
IF THIS IS A GOOD WAY - I hesitate to say - It works - but if quality is OK or not - I don't know
I DO : use JES_Deinterlacer (free from Internet) to convert the frame rate in my clips (usually 25fps) to 29.97 fps - Then and first then I import the converted clip into FinalCut to be used in my NTSC projects.
The quality done in this way - is very good and the program is free - so I can not want any better.

The DVD format (MPEG-2) isn't appropriate for Web use.
Use QuickTime and H.264 video codec with AAC audio. Size the file at 320X240 (best fit for your old file).
