Is it even a real iPod?

After having my 80GB iPod stolen, one of my teachers gave me her son's old iPod since he has three. On the back, it says that it's 15GB and is model number A1040. I'm guessing it's one of the super old ones because it looks like this: http://news.cnet.com/i/bto/20080116/CIMG2126_270x324.JPG
I've tried holding the Menu and center button, but for some reason, the buttons won't even click. Like if you took a piece of plastic and made it look exactly like an iPod and tried to press the 'buttons'. They won't give at all.
Seeing as it was a free gift from my teacher, I'm trying to use it. From all the troubleshooting I've gone through, I'm starting to think it's a hunk of plastic made to look like an iPod and not a real one.
Any help would be incredibly appreciated.

I believe that's a 3rd generation iPod, circa 2003. Oh, it's an iPod all right. As for the buttons, you need to make sure the Hold isn't engaged. Look at the very top of the iPod. If you see any red or orange, the Hold is engaged. Slide the hold switch to off, after which you should be able to operate the iPod, provided it has been charged.

My iPod Nano 6th Generation is not picking up album artwork. On several of my tracks, it recognizes the album art, but it doesn't seem to recognize the others. I've tried uploading the artwork onto several albums manually, I've cleared the downloaded artwork to download them again, I've even restored the iPod to its default settings...nothing seems to work.

  • IPhoto opens even when the iPod Touch is not connected

I came across discussions on the iPod Touch and issues with iPhoto and am hoping that a solution can be found for my problem.
My 13 year old step-son visited over the Christmas/New Year and was plugging his iPod Touch into and out of our Mac laptop. In fact, we believe that he was doing the very same thing described in this reply regarding: "...the result of downloading a photo in Safari on the iPod (or taking a screen shot). The file is stored locally on the device, however when it is connected to your computer, iPhoto will open thinking that the iPod is a digital camera/memory card..."
We noticed that iPhoto and not iTunes opened whenever he plugged in the iPod Touch and told him not to download any pictures onto the Mac. We are not sure if iTunes ever opened. Well, he's gone now and every time we turn on the laptop now, iPhoto automatically opens up even though there are no devices connected to the laptop.
We are also experiencing video distortion of the computer screen when waking it from sleep. To get the computer to work again, we have to force shut down by holding down the power button. So, basically, we now cannot allow the computer to go to sleep! We believe that this has something to do with the iPod Touch having been used on our laptop.
During an entire day of trying to figure out what could be wrong with the computer (and we are not avid computer users!) we found that in the System Preferences - desktop and screen savers module, the entire iPhoto library is there along with the standard screen savers. We are not sure if this is supposed to be? We tried deleting the library of pictures in the screen savers module but were unsuccessful.
All was fine before and now we're having no end of troubles since the departure of our little one and his iPod Touch! Help!!!

    Ok, thanks so much

  • I would like to know why i have to pay a service fee even if my IPOD 4 gen is within the warranty period

My Ipod touch screen get White there fore i brought it to the premium retailer where i bought it. after 15 days with no anwser of the retailer, i moved to the shop to have more information. they told me that my ipod could not be repaire and i had to pay a service fee even if it was on warrenty. why should i pay for something on warrenty and for something that could not be repair.

Apple never repairs your iPod, they replace it with a refurbished one at no charge if the product fails on its own.  But the warranty only covers manufacturing defects, if your white screen was caused by abuse such as dropping it or getting it wet, the warranty does not apply.   If that is not the case call them at 1-800-APL-CARE (if in the US) and discuss it with them.

  • My computer dosen't even detect my iPod mini

When I plug my iPod in, my computer dosen't even detect it. This is really odd.. What the **** can I do? I can't restore it, update it, nothing! I needs some help! It is formatted for Mac, but I can't format it to Windows if my computer won't even detect it...

Have you installed the software that came with your iPod on the windows machine?
Secondly, remember that the iPod will lose all of its songs and data if
    reformatted.
If you want to go between Mac and PC, you may want to look into Mediafour's XPlay which allows Mac-formatted iPods to play seamlessly on PCs. I've used it for my 3G iPod and it works perfectly for me. Apparently video transfer support for the 5G is not possible yet. http://www.mediafour.com/products/xplay/default.asp
