Is it feasible/cost effective to upgrade my G5, 2 GHz Dual PowerPC processors, 2 GB DDR SDRAM to an Intel system? There are no updates for PowerPC systems any longer.
Is it feasible/cost effective to upgrade my current MAC G5, dual 2GHz powerPC, 2GB DDR SDRAM, running OS 10.4.1.1 to an Intel board & processor(s)? Power PC G5 no longer has updates available. Things such as the newest version of Flash require an intel system.
Any and all advice will be greatly appreciated.

Well you can upgrade your 10.4.11 G5 to 10.5.8. But you lose Classic, and don't gain any Boot Camp capability. Only Intel Macs have Boot Camp, and still no Classic. You also have be mindful, if you buy too new, you won't have Rosetta capability which allows PowerPC applications to run on Intel Macs that were designed for Mac OS X. It is safe to download if your phone is not jailbroken. Before you download it, however, take some precautions:
Reboot your computer
Disable your antivirus and firewall
Connect the phone cable to a USB port directly on the computer, not a hub
Before updating right click on the name of the phone in iTunes and choose "Backup"
When you are given the choice choose "Download only", not "Download and Update"
After the download completes successfully click the Update button to install it.
Most of these steps are just being overly cautious, as most people ignore them and have no problems. But occasionally the extra steps save grief. -
Previously, the "Check for updates" option is found under the Help menu. In Firefox 4, I cannot find this option; how will we be able to check if there are available updates?

All of the sudden, iPhoto library will not open because it says I must update to latest version for it to open. There is no update for iPhoto in the App Store. As far as my computer shows, I have the latest version. iPhoto version 9.5.1 was installed December 13, 2013. HELP!
Go to your Applications Folder and open it there. Drag a new icon down to the Dock.
The old version is preservered, and the old icon is on the Dock- remove it. -
Need suggestions on upgrading my Mac G4 500 dual drive purchased in 2000
I was looking to purchase a new G5 however due to the price being so high and funds being low I want to upgrade my G4 so it can run the lates version of Final Cut Pro. I have been told i need to increase my RAM to the highest which is four 528 MB dimm RAM. I was told upgrade my processor. I don't know which one since there are so many out there. Keeping in mind the price can any one suggest one that is reasonable. I was also told to change my video card. Again any suggestions. If i upgrade my video card would i need to upgrade the ac adaptor?
I also want to run the latest version of the Operating system i think its Leopard.
I do about 10 weddings a year to I dont really need the Fastest system. I just need to upgrade my system to run solid.
Any suggestions is appreciated. I live in New York City. If any one knows of a place in NYC where I can have this done i would appreciate knowing where they are.
Finally if I do all these upgrades will I be getting a good system or just invest in an Imac?
ThanksI have upgraded my G4 Gigabit Ethernet to point of exhaustion. I can't put anything else in it, and by the end, it has costed more than a new computer. The difference is this - with a new computer, you have to plop down all of the money right away, but you get something that is going to last you a while. Upgrading a used computer is good because you can upgrade is gradually and it doesn't effect your pocket book so much because you make small investments at different times. The only problem with upgrading is that the more you add to the system, the more problems you could potentially cause, plus things start to fail when they get older.
If I had to do it all over again, I think I would pick the newer machine. There are just too many limitations to the old G4's, things like the 2x AGP slot, no PCI-X, only 2 GB of RAM, bus speed is only 100 or 133 mhz, clock speed is limited, etc. - all things you can't upgrade. ESPECIALLY if you want run an app like final cut pro. I bought my machine for running Pro Tools (professional audio recording app), and I still can feel the lack of power my machine has even after all of the upgrading.
The most important advice I think I could give you is this - do some research, see what everyone else who has experience would do, shop around, weigh the pros and cons to each possible machine to buy, and make lists of all of what you need and total up the costs depending on what machine you get. I would guess that buying a newer machine vs an older machine plus all of the upgrading needed would be pretty close. If you're patient, you should be able to get the newer machine without it hurting your pocketbook so badly. -
4.6C to ERP6.0 Upgrade - what are the recommendations for Unicode and Java

Forgive such a basic question.
We are just beginning to look at our ERP6.0 upgrade and am unclear whether we should convert to unicode at the same time, and also what are the uses for the Java stack.
Unicode?
We are a single language Latin-1 site so don't need Unicode. However will it become mandatory eventually? Are we better, if we have the opportunity now, just to convert. Also I believe the Java stack is only Unicode. Does ASCII ABAP and Java Unicode complicate things?

Will we need it? We are proposing a technical upgrade from our 4.6c Javaless environment. Where does Java come in to play in ERP6.0? Doesn't it increase greatly the iSeries HW requirements? (I'm looking at a 2 way 550 at the moment)

at the moment, in a latin-1 environment Unicode is for old customers not a requrirement. This might change in 5-10 years ...
Java: No problem at all with ASCII (in latin-1 environments)
=> there is no need for you, but you could go for it. We did several Unicode conversions already and these Latin-1 conversions are pretty easy and simple especially on iSeries, because of the special InPlace Unicode Conversion.
... but this can be done at any time ...

Leopard Upgrade, ILife 09 Install On A PowerPC G4
Hi.
I have a PowerPC G4 1.25 GHz Mac Mini. with 1 GB DDR SDRAM. The internal HD is 40 GB with only 9.5 GB still free. It is up to date, running 10.4.11 currently.
I bought the Mac Box Set (Leopard, iLife 09 and iWork 09). What I am thinking of doing is to do a clean install by erasing and installing Leopard. (This Mac Mini originally came with panther and was upgraded to Tiger. Seemed like a good idea to clear the cruft with an erase and install.)
The specs and user comments suggests that this should work fine. Is there anything I need to know or do before I do the erase and install?
Everything is backed up, so that is taken care of.
After installing Leopard, I would like to install the iLife 09. Will this be okay? Will the iLife 09 install on a PowerPC mac? Looking at the specs, iMovie 09 and Garageband 09 seem to require an intel processor. Does this mean that these two apps will not install on my powerPC Mac Mini from the iLife dvd? Or, will they install but be sort of stripped down, perhaps missing some of their features.
What problems, if any, do you foresee in this? Is there anything that I need to know before starting? Any advice, including a walk through description would be really, really appreciated. Thanks so much.Woodland Potter wrote:

Assuming you plan on keeping the "old" Mini around for a while, a new hard drive is not a bad idea. Not only will you get a lot more space for files, you will probably see a noticeable improvement in responsiveness, especially if you get a 7200 rpm model. This is because a newer drive will almost certainly have inherently better performance characteristics than the original (lower average seek time, a larger cache & improved caching algorithms, etc.) and because the same amount of file data can be concentrated into a smaller physical area of the drive, reducing the number of track seeks the drive has to perform. A side benefit is that the new drive may even use less energy that the older, smaller one & thus your Mini will run cooler.
This will not make the old soldier comparable to a newer Mac with a faster architecture, but it is likely to result in noticeably if not dramatically faster boot times & application launches, shorter waits while the "spinning beach ball" is displayed, & quicker switches between running applications -- basically anything that requires reading from or writing to the drive.
Things to be aware of include making sure you get a drive with the right interface: you do not want a Serial ATA interface (often referred to as "SATA") but the older Ultra ATA kind (now often referred to as "PATA," for parallel ATA). Almost any new PATA drive will be either ATA-6 (also called ATA/100) or ATA-7 (also called ATA/133). Either one is a good choice. ATA-7 is potentially faster but the Mini's controller may not support it. If so, it will operate at the fastest ATA level it supports. Avoid ATA-5 (also called ATA/66) because the drive will be older & less apt to have the latest performance improvements.
If possible, get the specs for the original drive & make sure the power requirements for the new one are lower. They probably will be because lower energy consumption has become increasingly important over the last few years, but it never hurts to check.
I assume from the "putty knife" comment that you are familiar with opening the Mini & any reassembly steps necessary to restore its heat sinking ability to factory standards. If not, either learn about them or don't try this mod.
Also remember that you could just add an external drive instead, but if you like DIY projects or the idea of retaining the one-box form factor, this is a viable alternative. -
Upgrade to iOS4 makes my 3GS think there are no songs.

I upgraded my 3GS last night and noticed when I go to the iPod -> Songs it is empty.
However if I go to Artists or select a playlist all my songs are there. I can actually play them but cannot view all or shuffle all songs etc.
And if I go to Settings and Usage, it tells me there are 0 songs as well.
Any way I can fix this?I solved the problem by deleting my music library and re-syncing. Go to owner's iphone in itunes and click the summary tab. Under options click manually manage music to remove your library from the iphone. Then click sync only checked songs and re-sync. That worked for me. Very disappointing that Apple could not provide this information.

My Mac Mini (2.5GHz Core i5) came with 4GB RAM, and I now wish to upgrade the RAM to either 8GB or 16GB in total (Crucial). Clearly, there is a price difference separating the two, but would this be justified by the extent of the improvement in performance, if I went for the more expensive option of 16GB RAM?
Secondly, if I am allowed to pose two questions: what seems to be the most compliant, reliable and cost effective external hard drive for this or Mac Mini's more generally? I was thinking of purchasing a 3TB HD for storing my rather large collection of photographs and Logic Pro 9 musical endeavours.
Your experience and advice would be appreciated, my having only recently made the switch from a Windows system to Mac.I 150% agree with dwb and woodmeister50 about WD hard drives. They are NOWHERE near the quality they should be. When you can get a Seagate for just a few dollars more, and they last years longer, NO ONE should buy a WD. I lost $25,000 worth of music and audiobooks on a six-week-old WD in 2007 and that was the last I'd ever buy from them. They REFUSED to warranty it with the ORIGINAL sales receipt from Bestbuy.
I have 16Gb of Crucial RAM in my Mini and here's what I've discovered.
You WON'T see "lightning fast" performance increases, becasue the Mini is pretty darned fast to begin with. What you WILL see is that when you're running RAM intensive apps like Photoshop or Parallels, other apps won't "bog down".
Quite frequently I find myself with less than half a gig of free RAM out of that 16. When it was only 8 I was at 100% nearly ALL THE TIME. When I only had the 4 it came with, it was always maxed out. -

I am looking for the most cost-effective long term solution for me as an self-employed interior designer. I need help making a decision: Is it reasonable to upgrade my iBook G4 (RAM, operating system)(+bigger hard drive)(+buy new rechargeable battery)(+buy new portable power adapter)?; or do I need to abandon it and buy a newer apple computer (0-2 years old)?

I think that decision would depend on how you plan to use this laptop. In addition it would depend on your client base and the image you need to project.
I used to be a commercial producer. If I was still doing that today I'd need to project a successful up to date image. My clients at the large agencies were/are attracted to the latest technologies. I would have the hippest iPhone apps and probably a 15" Unibody MacBook Pro.
I have a pro photographer client who wanted to buy an iMac a few years back but I insisted she buy a Mac Pro with at least two of the largest Cinema Monitors she could afford.
She has thanked me multiple times since she says her clients are so impressed with her images when she displays them on those large monitors.
So it would depend on how you're using the laptop and your client base.
The first thing I see with your iBook is that your RAM is pretty minimal. If you update that would be the first thing to do.
This is actually the iBook that I use and for me it's very cost effective. They're both 1.2 GHz machines. I use a 14" around the house and a !2" when we're traveling. It is very cost effective for me as I purchased them broken for under $125 total. I use salvaged drives and RAM. It works for me since my business is repair and the clients are impressed how well my 5 year old iBook works.

How to find most cost-effective fwdg agent at the time of shipment creation

I have a requirement of realizing the best cost effective transporter(forwarding agent) in the shipment document. Then how to do using the Transportation functionality of the ERP?
There is a scenerio like I want to transport my goods from L to M. In system say i have a route XX for that, which gets automatically determined in the shipment document.
Now on route XX, if i have 5 operative transportors, say A, B, C, D, E.
Transporter A - provides services km-wise, kg-wise, fixed price as well as truck wise
(Say if you opt for km-wise, charges are 15 rs/km, 10 rs/kg, fixed price of 15000 for full truck from A to B)
Transporter B - Similar to Transporter A with different charges
(Say if you opt for km-wise, charges are 18 rs/km, 7 rs/kg, fixed price of 14500 for full truck from A to B)
Similarly other tranporters also have their charges.
and Now at the time of shipment creation, how can i have some standard method, so that the system suggest the most cost effective transportor for my delivery ie. shipment i want to make or probabaly if there is some standard way to get the list of all available transporters on a given route at the time of shipement creation.
Please suggest.

As per my requirement, there might be say 100 routes existing into the system and each route might have say 10 different transportors available. Now they want to know 1) the list of transportors available on the given route - (run time at the time of shipment creation) to be put into the forwarding agent field 2) Of the available (say 10 transportors) who will be the best/cheapest.
As per your suggestion, the functionality helps after we put in the fwdg agent and then estimate his associated cost. But as in this case, since there are so many routes (associated so many transportors) they will not know whom to put in the field.
Hence want to know if there is some standard functionality of SAP which might help us i) identifying the list of transportors on a particular route or a given criteria - run-time ii) How to find the best among available OR i) SAP Directly suggesting the one and best transportor available on a given route.
Please help.

One thing to bear in mind, if your iPad is still under any sort of warranty, using any unauthorized repair place may void that.
So you may find less expensive places that are non-authorized, but once you use them, Apple disowns your device and if you have any warranty left, it'll be void. -
Magic Mouse: Eneloop Really More Cost Effective than Lithium?
Hi. Under heavy use, gaming or doing professional work for 16 hours a day at most is it really more environment friendly and cost effective to put Lithium disposable batteries like Everyready's Ultimate?
Supposing you used a calculated cost of having the Sanyo charger + four Sanyo Eneloops + trickle charge (although rechargeables can be charged many times which could last you decades. I think 80+ years. Having four Eneloops is realistic because, you need two extra Eneloops in the ready) vs. the Ultimate, how much would their cost be?
By the way, how long does Eneloop last if you use it heavily? The Lithium Ultimate performs so much better than alkaline (it's only at 94% after a month. The Advanced Alkaline was only at 3 weeks before it had to be replaced at 10% or risk having a leak if it's not replaced),

AlvinFor me, yes. Buying new batteries every few weeks got old. The eneloops are great and last about as long as the copper-tops I was using (which lasted about a month). I think I calculated saving money about the 5th month. B&H Photo has them for about $20.

Report Writer Issue - Revenue Cost Element - After Upgrade.
Hello ,
After upgrade some of the report writers are not pulling up all the plan data.
I found out that the revenue cost elements (cost element category - 11) are not being pulled by
report writer in ECC 6.00, where it used to pull them in 4.6C. These postings were done to
our budget version using KP06.
These revenue cost elements postings are not stored in COSP. I dont have any idea in which tables
they are stored.
Does anyone have any clue about this.

The cost center is a revenue cost center. So when we post our revenues we post it to this revenue cost center.
The issue is in 4.6C env it used to pull this data, but in 6.00 it is not pulling.....
