Is It going Wobbly!

Hi,
I’m having issues with my connection the noise on the line has increased from its steady 6db to 9db; I’m connected to the only BT socket in the house through an ADSL V1.0 faceplate.  Some weeks back lost connection for most of the weekend although obviously it has returned,  for a while I was losing connection every day and my noise has risen,  also corrected errors have increased massively with few uncorrected now.  Also now auto reconnect every several days.  Can anything be done or is it,  thats the way it is!

Hi welcome to the forum
Can you post the full results from http://speedtester.bt.com/
or http://bt.custhelp.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/9354/c/346,4740,5520 and post the results .
Have you tried the quiet line test? - dial 17070 option 2 - should hear nothing - best done with a corded phone. if cordless phone you may hear a 'dull hum' which is normal
also you could try the hints given by poster RogerB in this link they may help http://community.bt.com/t5/BB-in-Home/Poor-Broadband-speed/m-p/14217#M8397
Then someone here may be able to help and offer more advice.

  • Help/Advice needed on setting up home office network please

    Hi
I hope someone can help me with some technical difficulties i am having with a home / office network.
    Computer equipment i have is:
2 desktop PCs on same floor  different rooms.
2 laptop PCs to be used wired in office and/or Wifi if possible any room
2 Apple mac Laptops to be used wired in office and/or Wifi in any room.
1 HP Laser printer with network enabled
    1 TB HDD network enabled
    1 Linksys WiFi extender unit
    Connection equipment:
I have an NTL Cable modem
Linksys WR54G ver 2 router ( with the option of going to aLinksys WRT300N ver 2 router)
A Netgear Dual speed hub DS116
What i would like to do is have one office holding 1 desktop pc, 1 HP Printer and the other office holding the 2nd desktop PC with USB printer attached. I would like to be able to go Wifi around the house for all PC & Mac Laptops with the option of connecting them by wire in the office if required.
Idealy i would like to be able to share files, folders and printers between all units as well as all having internet access through the router's firewall.
I also use Zone Alarm Pro.
At the moment i have in one office the WR54G attached to the cable modem with one Desktop PC wired in to one of the 4 ports. in a 2nd port i have a cable going to the 2nd office into the DS116.
Connected to the DS116 is the 2nd Desktop PC, the HP Laser printer and the 1TB HDD.
The Wifi extender is in another room.
For some reason every now and then the whole system goes wobbly and seems to loose settings at which point internet access is denied and ihave to go back to 1 pc into the cable modem and starting rebuilding the network.
Can anyone give me an idiots guide to settin this kind of system up with specificsettings on each item if possible.
I would say i would also like to use 1 desktop PC for gaming now and then which at the moment sems very hit and miss with speed etc.
    Any help warmly welcomed
    Best Rgds

Following on from Steve's advice I would probably not bring the unwanted channels all the way down on the faders, either in a live mix or if mixing subsequently in Audition, as it may change the background acoustic too much. Leaving a bit of the background mics faded up a bit helps to pull the whole recording together and also means you have a better chance of getting all the faders back up in time for when they are needed without missing anything.
I didn't actually touch on this at all - perhaps I should have. There's definitely more than one way to undertake this sort of operation, and it rather depends on exactly what equipment you have available. So far, we know you've got potentially 16 channels available, but have no idea how you were planning to cover the different aspects of it. For instance, I would always consider it worth it to have a pair of ambience mics up all the time - which would get around this particular problem anyway....
The other thing you really have to pay quite a bit of attention to before you start is making damn sure (the previous day) that everything is in good order, and it all works when connected together. And if, for instance, you're going to rely on radio mic feeds from clergy,  that you can tap into these without difficulty, etc. Make sure your mic stands are not falling apart, and that you've got all the right mic stand adaptors - amazing how many times people have screwed that one up!
What this generally means is that even if you're familiar with the location, you still need to do a reccé just to make sure that everything in the venue is as you think. And if you can grab a dedicated assistant for the event, go for it. This can make carting stuff about a lot easier, and provide additional security for your equipment. And sometimes other benefits too, like tea...

  • Poor quality Export for HD with moving objects

When I export from iMovie6 any moving image is very poor quality. I am using a Sony HDR-HC1 and trying to export at the highest possible settings.
When the image is still the quality is very good, but if anything moves the image goes "wobbly" and "jigsaw" like. Panning shots are hopeless and anyone walking in the shot goes wobbly.
The original capture image seems fine, so I assume it is an exporting problem. Exporting at lower setting, ie for an iPod, the image is great.
I have tried all different setting, some are better than others.
    Can anyone help?

Your description of the problem - a 'comb' effect - sounds as if the "fields" which make up the resultant picture have been put together in reverse.
(..You don't normally see 'interlaced' video in iMovie's playback window - you normally see just a single field of the two, to make the picture clearer and simpler to display..)
[..A video picture's generally made up of two "fields" which each comprise half the number of lines down the screen: one field comprises the odd-numbered lines, and the other the even-numbered ones. Your exported video should be encoded with the lower (2nd) field first ..as described in this Apple document ..and the problem's mentioned here as well..]
However ..you said in your first post that "..I am using a Sony HDR-HC1 and trying to export at the highest possible settings.."
This is an HDV camcorder, and you didn't say if the original footage which you shot was HDV or normal DV. (HDV is recorded differently from normal DV, as it's recorded in a more compressed format, and it has to be automatically 'unscrambled' by Apple's Intermediate Codec while you're importing it into iMovie HD.)
It seems as if somewhere along the chain of importing>editing>exporting, the fields are being reversed, so that you get this jumpiness on replay when QuickTime tries to deliver a "highest quality" interleaved replay of both fields:
Ah ..sudden thought: you mentioned that you exported thro' iDVD: "..I have used iDVD by dropping it into a DVD theme and it seems to work ok, although the playback is a little jumpy, not quite as good I would have expected.."
You may have left the iDVD settings at their default 'NTSC' instead of switching them to PAL.
Check your iDVD Preferences ..that may be the problem.

  • Second attempt.

Ealier  (0939 US CDT) I posted Managing watches
Still not showing up in any listing as of 1246 USCDT.  Only way I'm able to get to it is to 'go back' in the Firfox tab I was working in when I posted it.  Or just enter the url directly, now that I've saved that.
Looks like the forum is "going wobbly" on us again.

    Hi,
Can you please explain your problem in detail so that we can assist you in right direction ?
Which OS you are using ? Which Password you are referring ?

  • Strong Wifi signal but SLOOOWWW connection? Help!

    Dear Folks,
I'm getting terrible throughput to the outside world over my home Wifi network with the iPad. Yeah it's DSL, but the performance is far, far below normal for that. Both my Macs are connecting wirelessly just fine. But most of the efforts to get online via the iPad (Safari, iTunes store, App Store, etc.) just time out before completion, or with a screen only partially loaded.
Ain't a signal strength thing. I'm getting three "arcs" and I'm sitting in the same room with the wireless modem. No RF problems here, bucko! Ironically, my neighbor has an unprotected Wifi network and even though I only get one "arc" of signal strength linking to it, that performs great. Data throughput is plenty fast, no problem logging into websites, app store, etc. via her network.
Clearly I have a config problem that is specific to my network and the iPad, since other computers and other networks work fine. But I can't figure out what.
    Suggestions?
    Thanks!
    Ctein

    Dear Jim,
Thanks for your help-- here's additional info:
    1) I don't know what service class and carrier my neighbor has. I mentioned it only to note that this demonstrated that signal strength was not the obvious problem. (Aside from the fact I'm sitting 1.5 meters from the router.)
    2) Run off my MacBook Pro on the home network, speedtest reported 1.3Mb/sec download speed, 300Kb/sec upload speed and 119 msec ping. IOW, typically mediocre DSl, but serviceable. The speedtest app can't even procure a server list on the iPad via my home network, and it times out (this happens with both the normal DNS of 192.168.1.1 and after I added OpenDNS of 208.67.222.222). If I log into the neighbor's network with speedest, the iPad connects fine, reporting download and upload speeds ca 2Mb/sec.
A service like the Google Maps app can function, but it loads maps VERY slowly. Safari simply times out 9 times out of 10.
    3) Router is an 802.11g -- Netgear WGR614 v6.
    4) DHCP settings on the iPad are
    IP Address: 192.168.1.3
    Subnet mask 255.255.255.0
    Router and DNS: both 192.168.1.1
(these are consistent with what the router reports)
    Router settings are
Get IP Address dynamically from ISP
    Get DNS automatically from ISP
broadcast on channel 7 in both g & b modes.
    WEP enabled
    5) Latest OS-- 3.2.1, but I was having the same problem with OS 3.2.
    Any clues here?
The help is much appreciated! I just hate this network stuff-- still makes me feel stupid every time something goes wobbly.

  • How do I delete apps from my iPod touch?

seemingly simple question but I have searched and haven't found an answer. How do I delete an app (or anything else) from my touch 2nd gen? Also I'm trying to get an app loaded from my iTunes (on MBP) onto this new touch-can't figure it out. It syncs but still no new app. what obvious thing am I missing here? Thanks.

    lbell wrote:

you can delete apps from your Touch by tapping once (and keeping your finger) on the touch screen until the screen goes wobbly. an "x" will appear on the apps and if you tap that, the app will be deleted.
another option is to deselect the app(s) when your device is connected to iTunes, then initiate a sync.
Also I'm trying to get an app loaded from my iTunes (on MBP) onto this new touch-can't figure it out. It syncs but still no new app.
on your home screen, swipe to left to see more screens with apps. or use the search function on the Touch.

  • Wireless reception very poor on HomeHub 3

My wireless reception with my previous HH 2.0B had become very poor. The signal was starting to drop to 1 bar when the laptop was only 10 mtrs away from the hub. There are no thick walls or major obstacles in the way.
I discussed at length the problem with BT technical help and after eventually speaking with a supervisor / manager it was agreed that if I started a new 12 month contract they would send me a HH 3. They would also slightly reduce my monthly charge.
The HH 3 duly arrived but there is absolutely no difference in the wireless reception. There is certainly no improvement on the HH 2.
Has anyone else had this wireless problem and any possible solutions? It is very frustrating and bearing in mind all the adverts that the HH 3 is supposed to be the best it's very dissapointing.

I see any wireless router not much more than a gimmick, very easily the reverse would happen in my home.
There is so much that interferes with wireless in the home and the neighbour’s home and occasionally the  people across the road.  I can pretty much see the testing scenario for wireless routers and very likely far removed from what would be considered average home!
Take my set up when the home plugs are not burning out, the main computer sits around 3 metres away from the Hub type A, connected wireless has about ¾ reception and stutters with streaming.  My daughters computer sits in what many would consider a dead spot has full reception streams IPlayer alike no problems.  Move the hub in any direction a matter of Cms then it goes wobbly in the dead spot, this happens with 3 different manufactures  of routers with varying extremes. |The type B Hub simply can’t be convinced to put its wireless in the dead
spot.  Not very scientific but a average user home, I believe and I'm convinced wireless is as much use as a clairvoyant.

    Hi, Wobble Woo.
The repeated kernel panic you're experiencing is a common issue on the mid-2010 MacBook Pro 15". I have the same laptop and the same issue. It's caused by the descrete graphics card. One solution, albeit a bit disappointing and temporary, is to use an application called gfxCardStatus. It runs in the statusbar and tells you which GPU is running. You can use the application to set your laptop to use the integrated GPU only, which will put an end to your kernel panics. But if you are using applications which require heavy graphics (such as photoshop and most video games), you'll just have to count your luck.
Some other users have had their motherboard successfully replaced. Take it to an Apple Store and ask them to run a GPU test. They should find the error (a manufacture defect, it seems) and replace your motherboard, with or without warranty. I hope this helps.

  • Shot with film, can't get rid of slight wobble

I'm a student and just got back a digital copy of some film (yes, actual film!) that I shot for my final assignment. My movie is based on the idea of a guy becoming trapped in a hallway when it suddenly extends into infinity on both ends. I shot everything on a tripod in order to easily duplicate the hallway into infinity. The technique involves duplicating the clip and minimizing it over itself, then lining up the walls, floor, and ceiling. This makes the hallway look like it goes on much further than it actually does.
The problem is that by shooting on film, I partially ruined the effect. There is an ever-so-slight wobble to the video which I think is due to the imprecise way the film was run through the camera. Every frame is in a slightly different place and so the video is not completely static. It's not really noticeable until I put the hallway extension in there. Then, the extension part sticks out like a sore thumb, sitting still while the rest of the video wobbles.
My question is if there's a way to stabilize the slight wobble. I tried using the image stabilization feature in FCPX but it did nothing to help. I just want the video to ever-so-slightly be stabilized to be a truly static shot. Any suggestions?

You need to go the other way round and apply the wobble to the extension.
How? It's called Tracking -you follow the movement in the original by locking onto one or more distinctive pixels, usually brighter ones. The data set that you derive from that set of images is then applied to the other.
Motion has the tools to do this. http://documentation.apple.com/search/#q=tracking

  • Rotation wobbly

    Hi,
I've imported an illustrator file that has a bevel and extrude effect on it into ae. When I make this layer 3-d and move the anchor point to the center and rotate with the z axis the objet turn with an exaggerated wobble. Is this because ae has trouble with illustrator's extrude and bevel, or could it be because my drawing isn't perfect. Any way to work around this?
    Thank you!
    h

    Hi Rick,
Brining in the file as a cropped layer didn't fix the problem. What's happening is that instead of moving around the anchor point, it leans forward and back as it's turning, making the object ( a simple line drawing of a daily with a circle in the center, and tear drop shapes around the circle for petals) look like it's wobbling instead of turning like a wheel.
The illustrator file is grouped with all the petals and the circle. The entire daisy is on a separate layer and so I could bring it into ae to animate. It has the extrude and bevel effect applied only to the grouped daisy layer to give it a more 3-d look.
Let me know if this helps you understand what's going on more clearly, and if you have any other suggestions.
    Thank you!
    H

  • "Wobbly"/un-interlaced images when transferring Motion file to FCP

I'm at wit's end here. I did a short 10 second intro for a press reel in Motion that is pretty basic and looks good in Motion (it's just images from the show flying across the screen, with a cloud emitter as background). The problem is that when I import it into Final Cut Pro, the images get all jittery and wobbly. It looks as if they are going in and out of different interlacing stages, which makes no sense.
The images were taken from the theater's website, and I have have tried them both in JPG and PSD formats. They are all being scaled down from the original size a touch after I import them into Motion (would that be the problem? Didn't think to try that...). As I said, they look fine and clear in Motion, but when I export into a Quicktime movie or render it and play it back in Final Cut Pro, they get all jaggedy/wobbly (for lack of a better technical term). Stills exported from the Motion file look fantastic in Photoshop (and in Final Cut Pro when I use them as background) but a paused image in Final Cut Pro looks very jagged.
I've tried everything I can think of, and even upped all the render settings in the project, to no avail. Any ideas/suggestions?

I have tried exporting from Motion using the Animation settings, per the suggestion of other threads, which made it look really good when I opened it in Quicktime, but it still is jerky and the resolution is dreadful in Final Cut Pro, even when viewed through a Firewire connected monitor (the settings I have in Final Cut Pro are the DV NTSC 48 khz basic settings...720X480, pixel aspect NTSC-CCIR 601, Field Lower (even)[I tried 'none' for fun and no change], 29.97, compressor: DV/DVCPRO-NTSC, quality 100%. I've played with the video processing settings, using Motion FIltering as 'best' and rendering in RGB, to no avail).
I have tested it with photos that are 300dpi instead of 72dpi, and while that seems to have made a slight difference, the pictures still move across the screen in a jagged/wobbly format (the final picture looks great when it reaches the endpoint and just sits there)
As for the motion settings, as I said, I have tried exporting it using the Animation setting (which made it look great in Quicktime) and using Field to "none" and nothing has changed once I import it and render it in FCP.
It's a simple 10 second file created in DV/NTSC. Very few bells and whistles.

  • TK weave now goes soft and sharp on Smoothcam processed shot

    Hi folks.
Hoping someone may have a suggestion or idea.
Trying to improve a wobbly shot. Shot on super 16 with a TK txfer from a Spirit onto Digi (625). However, shot has rotational weave (not excessive but iritating enough for the director to want us to see if we could fix it - it was not a fault on the TK as we checked that - pleased one slightly worried colourist). So I decided to see how Smoothcam would perform with it. After analysis, the shot is now rock solid. However where the movement is obviously being processed the most, the image goes soft which I did expect it to do but was hoping would be less obvious than it is. I tried altering the parameters in Smoothcam but it didn't help a whole lot. I then tried applying deflicker and then sharpening, which actually did help a bit. However I've now run out of ideas, so does anyone out there have any other suggestions I could try. (especially as I don't want to have to give it to our DS ops so they can sneer about FCP although I'd say they'll probably get the same result). The shot is only 6 secs long of which 18 frames either end is a dissolve, but any chance to put one over the smug DS boys would be great.
    Cheers
    Rob C

Well first of all smoothcam how it applies to FCP is not really designed to handle things like this. Its main purpose is to take out the bumps in a bumpy dolly move, etc and frankly this is more for the prosumer crowd. If you are a pro guy, which it sounds like you are, you should be seeking help from an experienced operator of an effects package like shake (from which this feature was cannabalized) or flame. I had this happen to a roll of film I shot and had a flame artist take it out after 2 hours of work. Each situation is different in how they might approach a weave so the "push button" solution in FCP is not going to satisfy you. If properly done right you may minimize the weave but in reality if you are expecting it at closer inspection to look as if it never was there, thats probably asking too much. The softening in my guess is just a reality for what is a worse alternative.

  • Problem importing Motion project into FCP (images 'wobbly' and 'jaggedy')

Sure. I'm uploading two files. One at www.jonathanfrank.com/FCPTest.mov, contains two 10 second movies back to back. The first clip is the project I created from scratch, the second clip is a test I did using a Motion template that I was 'inspired' by. Both were exported from Motion w/Field set to 'none' and export settings set to 'animation' Both looked pretty good when the exported file was opened in Quicktime. I imported the files and rendered them in FCP (and noticed that Field got set to Low/Even along the way somehow) and then exported them into Quicktime via FCP.
I also am uploading the original file of my project that I exported from Motion to see the difference at www.jonathanfrank.com/poetintro1.mov
Due to the size, it's not as easy to see the 'jitter' It was really noticeable when I imported the Travel template sans photos (so you just saw the grey "replace here" images with the circles and grids). It looks passable in the movies, but when Printed to Video, played in FCP (or played in the full-sized format in Quicktime) it's a lot more obvious what I'm talking about.
Basically, the motion just isn't smooth. It's very jagged and jittery, and the definition is dreadful.
Thanks for all your help and interest, by the way. And hope this

  • Slight macbook pro wobble

    Hi guys,
I got a new MacBook Pro Retina 13" earlier this week and today noticed a very slight wobble on the left hand side of the machine.
It's only noticeable when I put my wrist on the left hand side to type. That isn't regularly, I tend to touch-type so it's not *that* big of an issue, but it is slightly irritating as it doesn't seem to sit properly all of the time.
If I move my laptop around my desk - which is wooden - the problem seems to drift in and out. I'm not overly bothered as it's not a software issue and isn't going to stop me working, but I just wanted to know if it was a common issue.
I'm guessing it's to do with surfaces but any replies would be greatly appreciated - that's what the support community is for, I suppose!
    Thanks a lot.

So just to give an update, not only was there my wobble issue, but there was a dead pixel right in the middle of my screen. Needless to say, i went straight back to the Apple Store and they did an exchange for me, no problem at all. Finding parking during Christmas time is impossible so I opened it right there to make sure there wasn't going to be another surprise when I got home. (ie. wobble, loose battery cover, dust behind screen, etc).
    My MBP is now perfect.
