  • Nokia 5530XM 3.5mm headphone port problem

Hi, I recently bought this phone on contract with virgin a few weeks ago, I seem to be having a problem with the headphone port as everytime i listen to a track on any headphones, I can only hear on one headphone and have to keep moving the jack so that I can hear on both headphones. The microphone on the headset also does not seem to be working on it, I know it isnt a problem with the headset as I tried it with another 5530 and it worked fine.
Is there any chance I could get this repaired at a nokia store in London ?

Should do but you won't know till you try. If it is due to a manufacturing defect then it should be fixed under warranty. If itis due to misuse then you may be asked to pay.

  • 2nd Gen iTouch Screen/Headphone port problems.

Ok, so my sister has a 2nd gen iPod Touch that was immediately put into an Otterbox case to protect it. It's been a few months and now when she plugs in headphones, the screen flickers on and off if the headphone plug is moved around. I don't know what the heck is the problem and that darn Otterbox protects that thing. Any ideas? Thanks.

You have a hardware issue there that would need to be serviced to fix. The socket may need to be replaced. If you are out of warranty, I would suggest a third-party repair shop. It will be cheaper than Apple.

  • IPod headphone port starting to give problems

I have a iPod with color display 60 GB which works perfect except for the fact that recently I have had issues with playing tracks on it. In some positions of the cables/connector and some combinations of 'pressing', etc., the sound will only be from one channel, very low volume or just paused while plugged in.
First I believed it was due to the headphones, but with another pair of headphones, the problems are there as well, while these give none of these problems on my MBP. Therefore I now assume it is the port.
Any clue how to resolve this issue? The iPod has just normal warranty, but I've had it already for some time. It sounds like a ridiculous idea to throw away a machine functioning perfectly except for a headphone plug.

  • My headphone port is not working anymore, i have a new ipod touch

I have a new ipod touch, recently my headphone port began to have many problems, first there where funny noices and now it doesnt work at all. I try with new head phones, and as well with 3 different type of speakers and it doesnt work as well.
    I have IOS 8.2

    - Try cleaning out/blowing out the headphone jack. Try inserting/removing the plug a dozen times or so. There is a little switch in the headphone jack that disconnects the speaker when the headphone jack is inserted.
Try the following to rule out a software problem
    - Reset the iOS device. Nothing will be lost
Reset iPod touch: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Reset all settings
Go to Settings > General > Reset and tap Reset All Settings.
All your preferences and settings are reset. Information (such as contacts and calendars) and media (such as songs and videos) aren’t affected.
    - Restore from backup
    - Restore to factory settings/new iOS device.
    - Make an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store. Seems you have a bad headphone jack or other hardware problem.

  • Audio only coming out one side of headphone port - Retina MBP

I bought a retina MBP a few months ago, and suddenly the headphone port only outputs to the right side. It does it with anything I plug in to it, so it's definitely not the speakers/headphones. It's also not the balance slider in the system preferences > sound menu.
Does this mean it's a hardware problem? I'd hate to have to send it in for repair, but this is driving me crazy.
    Thanks for any help!
edit: I've also already reset the SMC to no avail.

System Preferences > Accessibility > Sound
Make sure that "Play stereo as mono" is not enabled.
Headphone jack fits in snug in the port?
    Tried resetting PRAM?
If these steps do not help, you may have to contact Apple.
    Best.

  • Iphone confused - headphones jack problem

    Hi,
I have a problem with a headphones jack. My iphone doesn't recognize, if the headphones are plugged in or not. When I'm listening to a song it stops playing and I need to unplug and plug in again the headphones to hear the song. (Song continues, it's not interupted, even if I unplug the headphones.) So it 'knows' that the headphones are plugged in, it just doesn't sound. It's very annoying, because it happens 5-10 times during my 20 min journey by tube, and to listen to the songs, I need to keep unplugging the headphones. When I don't use the headphones (when the iphone is 'on speaker') it acts like if there were the headphones plugged in. It plays the songs without sound, I don't have keypad lock sound either. I know the speaker is working fine, because my ringtone sounds ok (it sounds when the headphones are plugged in).
I have tried different headphones and different versions of iOS as well. Didn't help. First it was happening occassionally, but now it's an everyday issue, and it's quite annoying.
Could it be a hardware problem?

It may just be that there is something stuck in the headphone port. There are a lot of suggestions in another thread that have worked for a lot of people.

  • My headphone port isnt working

Can anyone help with a headphone port that wont channel sound.  I ran a system diagnostic and got an original message indicating possible audio driver problems.  I believe I may have uninstalled the needed driver for my headphone port.

    Hey jusmile_,
Here is an article for you that will help you troubleshoot this issue:
    iPhone: Hardware troubleshooting
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ts2802
    No sound through stereo headset
Inspect the headset jack for debris and clean if necessary.
Connect the headset and make sure the connector is pushed in all the way.
Check the volume setting. Adjust the volume by pressing the volume up and down button on the left side of the iPhone.
If you are trying to listen to music and cannot hear any audio, make sure that the music on iPhone is not paused. Try squeezing the headset microphone to resume playback. Additionally, from the Home screen you can choose iPod > Now Playing, then tap Play.
Make sure the latest version of iTunes is installed on the computer that you are syncing the iPhone with (songs purchased from the iTunes Store using earlier versions of iTunes won't play).
Try another Apple headset (some third-party headsets require an adapter to be used with original iPhone).
Try a different song or video.
Check to see if the iPhone alert sounds or other iPhone sound effects exhibit the same audio issues.
Disconnect the headset from the iPhone and see if sound comes from the built-in speaker.
Take care, and thanks for visiting the Apple Support Communities.
    Cheers,
    Braden

  • Combined audio & video from iMac mini DVI & headphone ports to HDMI to TV

I presently have my iMac connected to my Sony Bravia tv so that the video goes from the mini DVI port through a converter to HDMI to a 25 foot cable, a HDMI coupler and another 25 foot cable to the TV. The video quality is good since I use 24 AWG cables. The audio goes from the headphone port through a 50 foot 3.5 mm cable to a converter to RCA stereo cables to the tv. The audio quality is not very good with this setup and I would like to send the audio over the HDMI cable with the video so that I would have only a single cable over the 50 foot run and could use a HDMI wall plate for a neater installation. I am wondering whether anyone has tried this somewhat expensive solution to my kind of problem, and whether it worked. Atlona DVI + Digital Audio to HDMI Converter. Model: AT-DVID-HDMI

Not sure if it would work. The audio input is described as +audio (SPDIF) input+ which is not analog or the Toslink optical digital. SPDIF is a digital format, so you would need another converter. And since the video input is full DVI, you'd need a different adapter for the iMac's video output.
Considering the complexity, additional adapters, rather long travel length, and $199 price for the Atlona device, depending on what you want to show on the HDTV, you may want to consider an Apple TV. The older 40GB version is $149 at the Apple +Special Deals+ page. You can then stream your content wirelessly, and not have to worry about any cabling. But obviously, an Apple TV does not stream everything that that iMac can play, so it would only work if what you want to show is stuff you can play in iTunes. Plus you may want to see what Apple introduces at the 1/27 special event.
The iMac's audio output port doubles as an optical digital port, with a Toslink adapter, so if the Sony Bravia has optical digital input, you may be able to run a Toslink cable. I believe 50 feet is too long, so you would need some type repeater at the midway point.

  • IPod nano malfuctioning headphone port

My iPod nano was recently serviced for intermittently pausing and unpausing itself when no buttons were pressed, even when on hold. I put the reason down to a faulty headphone port as it has not paused itself when the headphones were taken out ever. This is a built-in feature of the iPod nano, and having a faulty headphone port would explain why it intermittently pauses itself. Apple service have replied in saying that there was no fault with the iPod.
This is utterly ridiculous as we have another iPod nano in the household which does not intermittently pause itself and does pause itself when the headphones are taken out of the headphone socket.
I am disgusted that Apple would sooner regard it as no fault than to try to fix it!
With all the good service and hardware over more than 13 years, I am very disappointed at Apple's response.

I have been frustrated greatly on Apple's behalf by this, but I would very much like to have my iPod nano fixed. It is completely useless listening to it when I am running or exercising as I have to continously stop to press play.
Is there any way for me to make sure that Apple fix the headphone port when it is serviced?

  • Headphone port only accepts certain headphones

Up until recently i haven't had a problem with headphones, but when i tried to buy a new pair the quality was really bad. This was the same with other headphones i found around the house so i assume it's a problem with the headphone port.

Likely a problem with the headphone jack.
    - Try cleaning/blowing out the headphone jack. The insert and remome a headophone plug a dozen times or so.
    - If still problem that indicates a back headphone jack.

  • I cannot hear any songs or movies from my laptop speakers - the headphone port works and a red light is showing? The output sound settings are showing as digital optical only? Any ideas :)

I cannot hear any songs or movies from my laptop speakers - the headphone port works and a red light is showing from the port? The output sound settings are showing as digital optical only? I used the headphones in the laptop for the first time yesterday and have had this problem ever since. Any ideas

The internal switch in the audio output port is stuck.  Try inserting the earphone plug a few times.  If no success, try jiggling a tooth pick inside in order to trip the switch.. If still no success, have the technicians at the Apple store genius bar do it for you.
