Is it just me being feeble?

Just bought an additional 512 for my 17" flat panel imac and I can't get the screws to undo! Arghhh!!! I am really really paranoid about being too forceful as I don't want to damage the screw heads - the middle one turns just fine but the other two are totally not going to budge - any ideas?

The following steps may resolve your issue:
Apple TV: Basic troubleshooting

If your TV screen appears fuzzy or black (you see no video)
Make sure the television you are using supports the Apple TV resolution requirements. Please see the Apple TV technical specifications.
When you connect power, check to make sure the LED turns on. If the LED is not on, then verify with a known good power outlet or connect something else to the outlet you're using for Apple TV and make sure it works (such as a lamp or clock).
Make sure you're using the correct video cables and that they are connected firmly to Apple TV and to your TV.
Connect the HDMI cable directly into the Apple TV and your television, remove any third party devices or adapters.
Make sure the input setting you've selected on your TV matches the input you have your video cables connected to. See the documentation that came with your TV for more information.
Change the Apple TV resolution by pressing and holding the Menu and Up button for six seconds. The Apple TV will automatically cycle to the next resolution at approximately 20 second intervals. Pressing the Selectbutton will immediately cycle to the next resolution.
If you are connected via HDMI, try unplugging and replugging your HDMI cable.
If HDMI isn't working on an Apple TV (1st generation), try component cables instead (and disconnect the HDMI cable temporarily). Read more about HDMI vs component video.

New iPhone 5 just started being unable to place/receive calls

My iPhone 5 just started being unable to place (says call failed) or receive calls. Cellular data works as do texts. Called ATT, can't figure it out on their end.

I just went to the Apple Store and their solution was to replace my phone.

After finding out that iOS 6 won't be alvailible for iPad 1 I have to ask, is there going to be any updates for the iPad one? It's kinda ridicules if our devices just stop being upgraded after two years......

I was quite disappointed when I read their will be no iOS 6 for first gen iPads and am curious as to if they are gonna just stop upgrading it all together, cause if so that's a bit crazy after two years they pretty much just drop the product?? What I want to know is, is there going to be any more updates for the iPad one at all, to update the security features browsing and stuff like that (not all the fancy FaceTime or seri and what not just the basic iPad 1 stuff)? Cause if not that's is a MAJOR waist of money. $800 for two years of use???

While none of us here can say with certainly, it's likely that iOS 5.1.1 is the last version of iOS that an iPad 1 will run.
As to a "waste of money", has your iPad stopped working just because a new version of iOS was released that the iPad won't run? Our iPad 1s haven't just ceased fallen over, even though they can only run iOS 5.1.1, and are in valuable use every day. But perhaps yours did indeed somehow stop being useful. If so, I'd recommend selling it and buying something else that you think would better suit your expectations.

My 64 gig iPod touch has just stopped being recognised by iTunes

Up to now no problems - I was creating playlists and all of a sudden the ipod disappeared from the iTunes list - Ive tried all the restart, reload iTunes - funnily it keeps saying it is updating as normal, just doesnt show so I cant see playlists or transfer tracke as I do this manually -help!

WD external hard drive seems to crash my Mac just by being connected to it

Is this even possible?
I apologize in advance if the question is too obviously n00b, or if it's been answered (I did search before posting), or if it's in the wrong forum.
I have a brand-new MBP, late 2008, and I was going to use a WD Elements 1.5 TB external drive for backup (Time Machine) and cloning (CCC). After about a month of use, my MBP started developing strange symptoms like some discussed elsewhere on these forums (apps apparently launching but invisible in the Finder, Finder unable to launch, Disk Utility saying my MBP's drive was failing, WD drive randomly disconnecting itself, and much more) and essentially became unusable. Three different Apple Geniuses were unable to help me. The third one was the most helpful and understanding and sent my MBP off to be repaired. I got it back with the message that they couldn't find anything wrong with it either.
They did a clean install of 10.6.2 and I created a new user account. Everything went fine until I tried to migrate some of my files only (no apps) from the WD drive. Then my clean new MBP began exhibiting the same symptoms as before.
So I did another clean install and created another new user account and didn't touch the WD drive. Everything has been running well for about a week now.
To test if the WD drive itself was the problem, I connected it to my family eMac this morning. The eMac (which admittedly isn't all that fast to begin with, of course) immediately began running slower and the WD drive began to randomly eject itself. I disconnected the drive and am sending it back to WD.
I'm just happy to have my MBP up and running again, though the loss of all my backed-up data is hard to take. I have two questions for the group, if you don't mind:
(1) Is it possible that the WD drive caused all these problems on my poor Macs? I'm going to assume that it is, but I'm curious and would like to understand (briefly) how.
(2) Is it safe to open and use any of the files I recovered from that drive, or should I just trash them to be on the safe side? I feel extremely snake-bit.

Those WD drives are junk and do not play well with Macs and most likely did cause all of your problems. Only WD seems to know the real reason why.
Those recovered files should be fine. I would no longer trust that drive with important data.

10.4.6 Update: Down to just iCal being broken

My own update has been a big headache. I'm fortunate enough to have important files backed up externally and use Backup. The last program I need but can't fix after this painful update is iCal. It crashes as soon as the calendar window opens (pretty much instantly). At this point I don't want to do a system reinstallation because my OS X install disk is 10.4, I don't have the time or inclination to start from scratch and work through the combo updates to get back up to date. Is it possible for me to locate and install an updated version of iCal without the need to reinstall the entire OS? Does Apple keep installers for individual applications tucked away somewhere they don't advertise?

Apple Mail just stopped being able to send mail?

No settings have changed. Worked fine a couple days ago. Yesterday, I noticed Mail getting extremely slow about sending mail, now it will not at all.
Plus, I am not being prompted to enter my password. I think this is the issue, but how can I force Mail to prompt me for the password when it used to do it automatically?
I use the Mail app for work and can no longer use it at all.

Not much to go on here, and why would you need to be repeatedly prompted to enter any password?
Who is the provider of the SMTP you are using as the Outgoing Server, and what Port are you presenting it on, and with what type of Authentication, if any?

TS1363 I have a 5th Gen Ipod Classic which has just stopped being seen by iTunes. I have reloaded itunes and rest my iPod but still nothing. Any advice?

I have 5th gen iPod classic and although it is recognised by my windows vista software within the "computer" tab. iTunes does not see it. I have totally reset my iPod and reloaded the iTunes software on my PC (which actually sorted my issues with mt 32gb touch) but to no avail.
Any assistance would be grately appreciated?

Nothing has changed frlom when it worked on Saturday to it not working on Sunday! The iPod does not appear in iTunes on either my laptop or my PC. The iPod appears to be fully functional, the wheel works and the date/time etc is all correct. However, it is empty of all music and videos. It was almost full (give or take 10 gb)
The display on the iPod says connected! Is there a setting on it which changes it from an iPod to a disc drive? Other than that, I can see what's wrong.
Everything is working perfectly apart from it's deleted all my stuff and the PC only sees it as an external hard drive?
As I said, my touch is fine

USB Keyboard just stopped being recognised

I have an iMac 2.8 i7 that is running os x 10.6.8
I have an Apple USB keyboard connected to it and everything has worked fine for several years
I booted up the iMac today and was greeted by the Bluetooth Keyboard Setup - no wireless keyboard connected message and "Check cables if you are expecting a usb keyboard."
I have tried rebooting and using different USB ports on the back of the iMac but no luck
I have tested each USB port with USB pen drives - each port recognises these devices - so the iMac ports appear to be working for other devices
I have tested the keyboard on my MacBookPro - and it works fine
I have tried resetting the SMC (powered down, unplugged, held power button for 15 seconds, plugged back in and rebooted) and the USB keyboard is still not working.
I haven't installed any new software or updates recently.
Any advice would be much appreciated

Reset the SMC and PRAM, it would not hurt to reset the SMC 2-3 times back to back. Post back after trying, the directions are in Intel iMac SMC and PRAM resets

Generics should save you from casting, instanceof, etc. If you want the thing in your map to be both Serializable and Map, say so:

Tried to downoad an App on my new laptop and its just stuck being 'pending'. anybhelp would be great

So the laptop is brand new but you get a "pending" error when installing or updating any App in Windows Store?
There are a several fixes on the web. Here are a couple of them.
1. Press the Windows key + R key to get the RUN dialog box.
Type wsreset.exe and hit the Enter key.
This should clear out the Windows Store cache files and stop the "pending" error.
If this does not work...
2. Force the update service to create a new SoftwareDistribution folder
Open an administrative command prompt (go to the Start screen, type "cmd", right-click on Command Prompt and hit "Run as administrator")
Type the following four commands in the command prompt, hit the Enter key after each line is typed in. 4 lines total :
net stop wuauserv
cd %systemroot%
ren SoftwareDistribution SoftwareDistribution.old
net start wuauserv
Restart the computer and try again. Let me know how you do.

Firefox has just started being incapable of accessing any website while other programs--Eudora & IE--continue accessing web as usual.

Firefox has worked well for years. Suddenly yesterday it started failing to find any web site. The message is always "unable to connect." Meanwhile, IE and Eudora continue accessing the web as usual.
