Is it just me or is iTunes having too many problems?

I am getting more and more problems with iTunes lately.
To sum it up:
- 50 errors when downloading videos
- 8008 errors when downloading videos
- video downloads without errors, but starting from scratch a few times before finally finishing the whole download
- 1403 error when downloading the iOS upgrade
What is happening here? When I email Apple I get the standard checkbox reply, but I already tried everything they suggest: a new user account, removing temp downloads, disabling the firewall, verifying/repairing permissions; you name it. I am not using web accelerators, don't have anti-virus stuff installed. I am actually out of clues, except that it all is related to iTunes and that it is really starting to annoy me.
Anyone else noticing these download hiccups lately?
Cheers,
Marinka

It started with the – 50 errors with me (multiple iTunes stores, different AppleIDs, different user accounts) and then after a while there's the –8008 error, so I deleted all the temp downloads and started over, but the same thing happened. The only way I could download was to stop the download manually after 25MB or so and then resume. That takes a long time with season passes I tell ya!
And now this evening I had to update 4 iPads 2 to iOS 5.0.1 (from 4.3.3) for work and it gave me the 1403 error. I actually read quite a few posts with the same error here. I'll try on a different Mac tomorrow, but even if that works that is clearly not a solution.
I've been working with Macs for over 20 years now and I think this is actually the first time that something this annoying is happening. So well done Apple for the last 20 years, but now please solve this!

  • Does having too many apps (like more than 100) affect the iPod Touch 5g's battery

So with today being the App Store's 5 year anniversary, there are a LOT of top notch apps becoming free, which I have wanted.
However this worries me - can having too many apps downloaded affect my iPod Touch 5g's performance & battery life?
    Extra Details:
iPod Touch 5g 32gb, just got it two days ago.
iI already have over 70 apps

I say they will only adversely effect performance and battery life if the apps do things when the apps are completely shut down. By shutdown I mean the app are not in the recently used row when yo double click the Homne button. By doing something I mean that sme apps are always checking for things like when you get a notification.

What were you doing when you received the message?
I have seen reports on these forums where there is a limit to how many contacts you can have in the "to" field of a text message. That is the only thing I can think of where someone has reported getting a warning about too many contacts.

  • Just upgraded to Leopard and having general mail problems...

Hi all. Thanks for any help you can give me in advance.
I'm having multiple problems and I hope you guys can help. Has anyone had any general reliability issues? I understand that mail often can flicker or hang up, and restarting the program can be necessary. No big deal. But since I've upgraded, it happens constantly. I run multiple accounts, from multiple providers, and they are all having trouble. So I don't feel it is my provider. I'll list a couple problems to provide some examples.
    1) When I start Mail, a pop up comes up to make me verify each account server. I feel like I'm in Windows Vista with endless pop-up-warnings.
    2) More often than it used to with 10.4, when sending, the SMTP server will hiccup and I'll get the "try again later" warning. And I have to restart Mail to get it to send. This happens at least 10 times a day.
    3) Large attachments, 5 to 10 megs, often won't send if they don't get uploaded fast enough. My company doesn't have the fastest internet, and it can take time. This wasn't a problem with 10.4.
Those are the biggies. Seems like it is just general unreliability. I have multiple accounts with multiple providers, so I'm led to believe that the problem is with Mail, not my providers.
    Thanks.

I ran in to similar problems when I upgrade my wife's iMac to Leopard. The easiest way I found after about three hours of trying to solve the issue is to just download and reinstall iTunes. that whole process took ten minutes and iTunes is working as it should. You can get the latest version of iTunes here:

  • HT1904 correct itunes re: too many http hits

now that my apple account is updated, itunes hit my credit card today for the movie rental i attempted to rent on 2/4, however won't download it due to "too many http hits". where do i go to fix this issue?

You could try deleting the system preferences .plist file in your "bad" user account. It's likely a pref file in that user account. I thought iTunes plist was the likely culprit, but apparently not.
During all of this, have you tried restarting the computer and/or logging out and logging back in to the user account?
Worst case scenario, you could move your iTunes Music Folder into the Shared folder under Users and access it from the other user account.....Possibly a workaround you could live with until someone comes up with a better solution?

  • TS4009 I need to get a message to Apple, iCloud...having so many problem with it.  I just went in and deleted all of my iCloud emails, that just stay stuck there.  What has happened now is that it was synced with Yahoo.  I've lost all my yahoo mess. HELP!

I am so sorry that I ever signed up for iCloud. The only thing that ever worked is that I had two messages drop into iCloud when there was an open wifi connection.  It is synced with Yahoo.  It was taking up so much space as I had a lot of attachments, nothing sent, they just sat there, I had to cut and paste them into my Yahoo! account and send them.
Last nigth were were looking at the reason that my brand new Mac Air had ZERO memory. It was the iCloud messages that were stuck.  I then went in and deleted everything.  I have tried to turn iCloud off via a pull down menu.  Did not work.  I have now lost all of my sent and received messages in my Yahoo Account. My inbox is completely empty.  I believe I still have sent messages though.  These were messages that I had cut and pasted into Yahoo! to get them sent.  Now my Yahoo! is wiped out.
I am a writer.  I need those messages recovered.  I am an end user.  I need instructions in English on how to recover this.  If there is anyone that can help me, I am desparate.  I imagine Apple could retrieve them for me though there is no where to contact them.
I thought it was cool until, such time as I LOST EVERYTHING.

Lord K.  Thank you. Yes I am within the 90 time period, however I travel Intertionally and I can not receive not make a call to Apple. I was just at the Genius Bar in Chicago and they said, don't worry about it.  It just floats out there, however, I can not recover my messages on a flash drive. I need to go back to my old computer which I don't have with me.  My messages were in folders for a lawsuit.  It is going to take an incredible amount of work for me to, you have no Idea.  We are talking thousands of pages!  I the defendent will have them during discovery so I am not so worried.  However, I can not bring them to him on a Flashdrive when I meet with him without an extraordinary amount of presssure on my part.  THis is not just some little email issue. This is suing EXPEDIA and Tripadviosr.com

  • ITunes having purchasing processing problems? or is it me?

Is anyone else experiencing problems with downloading albums? I am getting an error message everytime that iTunes cannot process credit card purchases at this time. Please try back later."  It's been all day!

    Welcome to the Apple Community.
    It's most likely your network.
Intermittent problems are often a result of interference. Interference can be caused by other networks in the neighbourhood or from household electrical items.
You can download and install iStumbler (NetStumbler for windows users) to help you see which channels are used by neighbouring networks so that you can avoid them, but iStumbler will not see household items.
Refer to your router manual for instructions on changing your wifi channel or adjusting your multicast rate.
There are other types of problems that can affect networks, but this is by far the most common, hence worth mentioning first.

  • Just too many problems, iMovie, iDVD

After working with the same project for the past 2 weeks and getting nowhere, I finally gave up in total frustration and deleted the entire project, one piece at a time. I spent the last hour today starting at, 10:45 Am Alaska time and tracked down every piece of my project, iMovie and iDVD and deleted the whole shebang. Problems kept happening over and over and each time, were getting worse than the last time.
This time, iDVD froze up. It did it last night and again today. After waiting for 9 hours over night, and again 5 hours today for it to finish encoding and to finally burn the project, I ended up doing a "force quit", because iDVD wasn't responding at all. It was highlighted in red on force quit, with the words, ("iDVD not responding") in parenthesis. This told me that the program was locked and would not be able to complete the assigned project, so I force quitted the project and scrapped the entire thing.
Now I'm forced to make another decision. Do I go on and re-enter the video into my computer and start over? Or, do I just say forget it and trash the entire idea of producing an DVD from my video footage all together? I'm ****** off and frustrated at how poorly this new and expensive program is not operating like it was designed and supposed to do. Why did I spend all that money, for a program that doesn't work the way it was designed to? Is anyone else feeling the way I do right now?
    Froglips from Alaska

Your not alone. I just spent over a week trying to
burn a project. I have a new iMac and the latest
iLife.....thought I'd be set for awhile however while
trying many different possible solutions for my
problem have spent the last week dancing around
iMovie bugs, iDVD bugs and Quicktime bugs forcing me
to do "workarounds" which take extra time again. I
like alot of things about Apple however people pay
for a workable product and iLife should not cause
people this much pain. I've used software that is 98%
bug-free so I know it can be done but Apple does'nt
seem to be willing to test its software thouroughly
enough on a wide variety of systems and different
circumstances to eliminate the bugs....and so we
....its faithful followers end up being its
"bug-testers". Perhaps it also has to do with the
desire to "pump-out" new versions every 9-16 months
however I would much prefer to wait longer and even
pay reasonably more for a new version that worked
properly. I want a company and software that is
usable, reliable and responsive to its customers.
This is the kind of company I'd be willing to be
faithful to. I've noticed that Apple has a tendency
to either be non-responsive alot of the time to
problems brought up in these forums or to deny that
    problems exist. (It's hubris).Thats why sometimes a
new version of iMovie will carry over some bugs from
a previous version. Of course the right way to handle
this would be to acknowledge the problems , then do
everything you can to make sure they dont come up
again. After doing some testing myself between iMovie
2 and iMovie 5......I find iMovie 2 to still be the
fastest and most reliable version however it does"nt
have the "extras" that version 5 has. Instead of
building on the firm foundation of iM2 ....the
foundation was ripped up and we got the disasterous
iMovie 3.(To be fair...iM4 and 5 are at least better
than 3). When phoning Apple Support for assistance
with my latest problem .......my "helper" was trying
to tell me that my Mac was"nt capable of burning a
DVD over 1 hour . I ended up having to read some
passages out of the "Missing Manual" to convince him
otherwise. Apple often tends to say that the people
in these forums only represent a small percentage of
all its users ....tending to dismiss the
problems.......however its also true that only a
fraction of the people having problems come to these
forums for help. Alot more struggle on their
own....ask other people.....or just give up and move
on to some other software that works. As I said
    earlier...I'm generally a fan of Apple.....but they
really should wake up and test their products
thouroughly before releasing. I have Final Cut
Express but I like the beauty in the simplicity and
ease of use of iLife. iLife is a great
    concept............if only it worked properly.
Having said my say.......all I can suggest is that
if you persist and keep trying different possible
solutions found in this forum, theres a good chance
you'll eventually work it out (as I did). Only you
know if its worth the effort. Good luck.
Thanks Mr. Thompson, for your input. I agree completely with many of the things you said. I too, am a fan of Apple products, the computers especially. But that entheusiasm I once had about them has diminished considerably in light of the problems that seem to be ongoing. I finally gave up completely on the project that I was trying to edit, and I deleted the whole project. Right now I'm trying to decide if it will be worth the effort and time, to reenter my video and try again. I commend you for your diligence and willingness to keep trying and thank you for encouraging me to keep trying, but for now I'll take a break and rest on it before I decide what to do next.

  • Can having too many emails stored in Mail cause problems?

I've got over 3,800 emails in my inbox and I sometimes have problems with Mail not starting. My mail is stored in iCloud (so I can access them across all my Apple devices) but I also have a lot of old emails just stored on my Mac.
Should I just archive old important emails on my Mac as well as deleting unwanted emails? Will that improve the performance of Mail? Would having a lot of old emails just stored on my Mac affect the performance of Mail on my Mac?
    Thanks.

  • ITunes reinstalled too many times

I run the IT dept for a school. Our students now have Toshiba tablet computers (which they own). Most have now installed and are actively using iTunes. Our problem is that when a tablet comes in for a repair that requires a new hard drive or even just a new image there's absolutely no way we can deauthorize the student's iTunes before proceeding. Since they're only allowed 5 installations we've run into problems when this has been exceeded. Apple does allow a once per year deauthorization of all computers but this would affect any other computers using the tunes (parent, home pc, etc). Has anyone else encountered this in a school or corporate setting?

I upgraded itunes twice and it still wont upgrade, now i cant buy games, what should i do?

  • Why are you all having so many problems????????

I am an Apple Powerbook, iBook, iMac and 3rd Gen iPod user. All these products have performed exceptionally well. In terms of OS both OS9 and OSx have been excellent. I started from “0” knowledge and soon found that the Apple designers had already worked out the problems that I would have had before I even new I had any. In other words, provided I used common sense and patience I found that I could work through the harder to understand areas with positive results. What great products.
In terms of hardware I have had all the usual problems (mother boards, hard drive, track pad and super drive failure) all of which, as I understand come down to the component manufactures and not Apple.
As I understand the first iPod products were designed to play MP3 music and by the 3rd Gen these products had been refined in a manner that made them a world leader. Then came the 4th Gen iPod, again an even better MP3 player with the bonus of Photo ability or is it. On reading “Apple Discussions iPod with colour display” there appears to be no end to the problems that people are experiencing with reference to the Photo ability, it goes on and on!.
I am therefore interested to know if the 2nd Gen of the Photo ability has been refined to that of the now MP3 ability and ease of use within the new 5th Gen iPod Video as very little has been mentioned within the “Apple Discussions iPod with video”. If it has then 2/3rds of the product is worth having “MP3 / Photo ability with a “?” over video ability that can only improve with time. However if the Photo ability still has the problems as mentioned in “Apple Discussions iPod with colour display” then something is wrong; 1/3rd of the product is worth having “MP3” and 2/3rd not with a “?” now over Photo ability and a “?” over Video ability.
If this is so, then am I right in saying that as consumers we are rushing into Video ability on a false foundation as Apple are turning these iPod products out with added features that are no longer working in a user friendly manner or are we consumers all a bit thick?.
I am not afraid of hearing the truth!.

I have a color iPod 4th gen, and I'm also interested in knowing what the big deal is! My 4G works perfectly, except when I occasionally overload the HD with commands. The only trouble I had was upgrading to iTunes 5 on my XP SP1, which destroyed its iPod software for good. But that's normal, because SP1 is too old for the iPod.
Any big problems with the 5G, spill 'em, I can't wait to hear the truth.
